We’re now in our 4th year of full-time travel. And are also slow travelers. We no longer own any real estate but our “home”, e.g. our storage shed and doctors are in Gig Harbor, WA. We find we need at least 6 weeks there annually to deal with medical issues, new glasses, etc. And we cruise rather than fly whenever possible. I enjoy your videos and comparing/contrasting with our experiences. We spend a fair amount more than you do (around $100K a year) but we also are likely to have fewer years on the planet than you two. Live Your Life. Live Your Life!

Your costs are spot on with mine. I'm a 63 year old solo traveler, who's travels have been close to identical with yours. In the last two years, I have spent 8 months in Medellin, Colombia, 8 months in Mexico, 5 months in Europe, starting in Amsterdam and ending in Istanbul, a month in Morocco, a month in Thailand, and I have now settled in Da Nang for six months. My favorite cities in that time are Istanbul, Prague, Chiang Mai, Mexico City, and Medellin. And I couldn't agree more about Penang. I was there in the coolest part of the year, and I though I would melt into the pavement. I've been traveling for eight years now. What a wonderful life! Thanks for the reaffirmation, and safe travels!

I just sold my hotel, owner for 38 years. it kept me busy, 24/7/365 , I went for months without without a single day off, years without a vacation, I was heavly leveraged. It was very difficult to make ends meet, unfortanlly, I was always well qualifed for bankrupcy but too stubborn to quit or give up, like a hoteler we all know named donald trump that went bankrupt many times and defaulted on paying many debts,, a man without integurity.
For 38 years I enjoyed the guests from all over the world that paid to come and visit me, lol.
I did not feel the need for travel since I had traveled extensivally as an aviator for 13 years before buying the hotel. So, I was lucky to be paid well and the airlines paid for most of the travel expenses. And on the wild side I was invlolved in most of the US conflicts and wars for 13 years. My travel mileage was equal to about 200 times around the world, more than most astronauts. Now I am 85 years old and findally retired.
Now, I am bored and want to travel again,,, but realize that I will hafto pay, todays prices, wow! sticker shock.

When I retired ten years ago at age 58, I thought about doing some monthly rentals at various places along the US Gulf Coast.
But life happens. In 2017 our daughter and her family moved to central PA from CO. We would do month long trips twice a year to be with them, and we ended up buying a second house there a couple of years ago - and our son bought a house there, too. We will be selling our CO home this Spring and moving to PA full time.
We enjoy traveling the world on cruise ships - generally Princess, but as I’m knocking on 70 years old, full time international travel has passed us by. We’ve visited many of the places you traveled to in 2023 during the past several years - but I can honestly say I always enjoy getting back to our ship’s cabin, having a white tablecloth dinner, and seeing a fantastic show. It does come with a higher cost - but how else can you see the world if the wife is scared to fly?

Thank you for your reply Brian and you referred me to this video. Which I have already watched, I remember now. I actually enjoyed this video precisely because of the flight costs incurred included! Thank you. I am kindly suggesting that when flight costs breakdown being included in every video really makes the content truly helpful and complete. Does that make sense? So for every destination, it makes it more realistic and discernible what a particular dream destination in real dollars/money. This is an added value strength for the viewers, and I think worth considering to always add to every video. Many vloggers fail to do this. Make it an added strength to yours. More power to you guys. You are such an adorable couple. Thank you for sharing with us what you know.

Great Video! Excellent Content. I love how the two of you break everything down almost to the penny, show us where you went and give feed back on your experience. I am a Senior, Disabled, Solo Female Traveler whose income is only Social Security and the expenses you came up with for 1 person is doable for me. I would probably even spend less because there are many activities that I am not able to participate in, by myself, due to my spinal disability. So if I can do it, just about anyone can do it if they really want to.

This is amazingly helpful. You covered so much gorund in 2023, including your first exciting trips into southeast Asia. Had you remained there, or nearby and avoided central Europe with Italy, Austria and Germany in peak season, your costs would have been substantially lower. But having said that - just wow! Having watched all your videos and how you travel, this is NOT hostel budget with a backpack. You are staying at very nice places and seeing the bucket list sights. Your overall costs show me, yet again, that this is manageable and achievable. Kudos to you both for all time and work put in to compile all of this data. Of course, each person can travel in a different style and eat differently. You aren't scrimping on how you want to live. Cheers guys! Onto 2024 travels!

Just watched the end of this video and the total cost blew me away, and I mean that in a good way!
To my wife and I that seems very reasonable and then of course shopping around getting a little bit more Less expensive accommodations of course would bring that down but... And of course where you travelled.
I am 66 and in good health I exercise a lot my wife is or rather will be 59 in August and we really really like the idea of slow travel. I am more of the cranky butt when I feel rushed and my wife does not like that so we can appreciate the slow travel for sure. Like I said earlier in another one of your videos I just subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to watching all your videos. We were going to start in January possibly I found a repositioning cruise from Seattle to Tokyo a 16 day cruise for both of us $1600 And then we were thinking of then flying to okinawa and staying there for possibly a month and then back to Vietnam and then after a stay there then either find another repositioning cruise back to Seattle if that's not available then we will fly back to Seattle. This will be our testing waters if you will... My wife is very nervous And we will see what happens.❤
    Thanks!!

Fantastic video - thanks for breaking down the numbers. We've been traveling full-time for 6 months now. It's great to see someone else's perspective who is on a similar journey and we have so many questions! How far in advance do you plan/book travel and accommodations? You mentioned a couple of locations where you stayed less time or more time in a place based on how much you liked it when you got there. How were you able to stay so flexible in changing your plans and did that result in any extra costs (rescheduling or cancelling existing reservations) or other issues with reservations (availability, costs going up if you wanted to book future travel)?

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  5 месяцев назад +1

We have never overstayed a location but have left early. When we leave early we are spending extra for a new accommodation in another city or country.

I think, your expectations on accommodation are similar to mine, but it’s nice to know that I could splurge if needed on a short term stay and not break my bank. (I truly thought your European adventure was going to higher.) I am looking forward to your video on how to setup phones and preparing for this type of lifestyle. I know that you got a different insurance plan to cover the states and I’m wondering how you have liked it… so maybe you can cover that and another packing video. Great job, guys! I'm also one for recording daily travel expenses. It helps me in planning future trips and I also look back at what I spent on previous trips. I take along my travel journal and write all expenses down at the end of each day. I itemize each expense.
Wow, to take 40 hours to get from Singapore to Seattle. 😱
I've always taken Singapore Air from L.A.-Singapore via Narita (SQ11) 12 hours to Narita, one hour in Narita airport long enough to grab and eat some sushi, back on the same flight number and on to Singapore for +/- 7hrs 45 mins. And on the way home, it's shorter (SQ12). When getting to the Narita to LAX portion, it usually takes only 10 hours, but sometimes less.

Yes, we love Antalya! So far I've found you can fly direct from Rome, Dublin, and London....I'm sure there are others as well, that is just what I've looked at so far. Cheers!!

You are in our top two channels to watch ( we also love other retired full time travellers, such as 2GoRoam).

This was VERY helpful! I don't think we're really ready to sell our house yet so it helps to know that we could still budget for a good amount of travel while still maintaining the house if we absolutely need to; at least until we are ready to take the plunge of full time travel 👍🏻

If your house is paid off and you can rent it on a yearly contract then is not much extra you need to add that is on top of your rent.

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  7 месяцев назад +3

Yes, that is a hard decision - sell or not. Having a home base to come back to would be nice. For us, it just wasn't an option. But, later we may decide to have a home base, but figure we will tackle that at that time. Cheers!!

Thanks for sharing. As always very informative specially since we are planning on a similar yearly budget perhaps even a little lower however we don’t like beers 😅. I know you mentioned there was going to be a logistic video coming up, looking forward to that one as we are interested to learn more about the Schengen zone and going in and out of it. I also believe it will be interesting to know more about airport experiences and going to and from to them etc. Thanks again!

We will be doing the logistics video sometime next month. A lot of planning is going into that one. 😃 Thanks you two for watching!
      No Beers Cheers!!😀

I met 2 hitchhikers in the 90's. One was Australian, the other US American. I took them with me to my hometown and to my local bar. They both said it was their best time yet. Great memory for me too.
Both were engineers who worked for a while then traveled for 5 years.

That's so interesting! Some of our best memories come from those we've had the opportunity to meet while traveling - many fun stories to share. Cheers!!

@@BrianandCarrie Funny story. Years later I worked in this pub "Galgenhölzle" Überlingen Bodensee. My boss was on a trip through Australia., twenty years later. Near Uluru Ayers Rock he was in a bar. They asked him where he was from. "Germany, South Germany Lake Constance. .." One Australian shouted "Oh Galgenhölzle!" (The name of the restaurant) 🤯🤣

Most people won't have those big flights back and forth to Seattle too. So in terms of doing a year of travel cheaper, cut that part out. Also factor in monthly Airbnb rental discounts.
Thanks for sharing. This is probably work you would do for yourselves but making the video and sharing this personal information is appreciated

You are correct, if we had stayed in the same place for a month at a time we would have saved more. We feel that in 2024 we will spend less although we may up our accommodations budget. Thank you for watching and commenting!

We had a bad experience with accommodations to start off in Malaysia. It was hot and muggy so it may have been just us. We loved our time in Thailand and Vietnam so comparing the three along with our bad moods may have played a part. 😃 Thank you for watching!!
