What a gem. Why has this been hidden? A brilliant bloody cast and the production was fantastic.
Awesome! This recording must be preserved at all costs. Even the Ford ads are worth keeping.
We Beatles fans at the time didn't give this composition the credit it deserved but, given this production and performance by many of Australia's greats, this is an impressive record of the huge talent of not only our 'locals', but also of Pete Townshend and 'The Who'.
On another note, it'd be interesting to know of any scuttlebutt associated with Keith Moon's participation given his reputation for misbehavior.

My dad was working for Go-Set magazine around that time, and I vaguely remember going to the Lakeside Oval (South Melbourne footy ground) to see this with my parents and brother. I would have been around 6 years old and this scared the absolute crap out of me back then.

WOW. The Australian production of Tommy the Rock Opera . What a rare gem. What a Amazing line up of 60s 70s Aussie Pop stars. Keith Moon as well, that's a bonus.

Weird! I watched this last week, and just now , while sorting through junk to throw out, I turned up the promotional double sided page from The Herald on that day, with pictures of the cast on one side, and song lyrics on the reverse. Won't be throwing that out.
