I found one of these in town for $7,500 with barely any miles on it. I bought it as a 3rd car for our family. We quickly discovered the back seat is even too small for most kids. But that's ok, we have other cars for when we go out as a family. It is a fun car to drive, though. And ours was so cheap we can hardly complain about anything.
+The 8-Bit Guy Cool, the 8-Bit Guy is here :)
In order to fit the battery back they sacrificed rear legroom. This car would have been perfect if it had CCS or Chademo.
Please do a review!
This is a great cumuter car. I us it every day in Germany for comuting to work 85km and for this its doing realy good.
Yes, correct.
Sorry for my bad English in my previous comment. I can actually do betten than that. Shame on me.
how’s the service for it? Wife has an ICE 500 and we’d want to swap but AFAIK, the 500e is just a California compliance car.
Besides, (seemingly) no plans for Fiat EVs...

They don't take much to warm up the cabin or cool it down so way better for A/C use. If Bjorn used the Dan more and temperature less it wouldn't have used much power.
Yeah, Fiat states the car was selling at a loss. So it is solid bet, that they are bowing out.
Great line: backseat 'for people without legs.' LOL
I lol'd at this.

car looks great man ! I love the interior white and orange. I wish more people have this car so will be easier to park for everyone and no pollution.
Purchased 500e for my wife who just loves it - for its tiny size, retro feeling, eco-oriented driving, quiet behind the wheel etc. And I can add that after twenty years of driving the fossils driving 500e is really a big fun, doesn't get worn. The range of approx 130 in winter and 160 in summer is more than sufficient - we hardly drive more than 90 a day. We just plug it in during the night and in the morning we are ready for another portion of kilometers. Great car for this purpose - but don't you dare entering the motorway with it :-).
If you driving to work, everyday, ,99% alone in the car, and u have to park it in crowded area, this car is better then anything else out there.
The little shelf in the back is for security. People can not see what is in your your cargo area though the window.
Weird that FIAT doesn’t sell the 500e in europe officially if you watch this video you can see that it’s a US spec 500
It's a "compliance" car built for regions where car makers are required under law to provide a certain number of electric vehicles within their sales fleet.
I almost spit my drink out at the monitor when you said "with 2 optional seats for people without legs".
If the price is right, this car is fantastic :) Several of my friends own it for pretty much free, because their lease is less than the gas they used to pay for. Gotta love the Italian styling and quirkiness :)
"Rubbing it makes it wet" 💦
lmao
like twice
Thanks Bjørn! I had also wanted to see you review the 500e. It's a very popular EV here in California.
I have pulled 60kw Regen in the Fiat 500e. The Regen is limited on several factors. Like all ev's the state of charge affects Regen rates. On a small 24 kwh battery like that car you won't get a ton of Regen at 80% but it starts to get heavy at around 70-60% it will be able to pull about 40kw easy. This particular car also limits Regen to several (about 7-8kw) if the battery is too cold. The battery has active heating and cooling and Regen power is limited until the battery gets up to temperature.
Why so negative? It's a really nice looking car, perfect for the city. It really makes sense to build an EV version of it. Unfortunately the CEO of Fiat hates EVs. Thats why they didn't put much effort in it (like fast charging capabilities). This car was only designed to meet regulations in California. The only place where it's officially sold. At least in Germany you can only get imported versions. If it had a fast charger I would consider buying one, but I also fear that no Fiat dealer is able to service the car here when something goes wrong.
the battery CAN fast charge, they just did not add the connector and implement the software for it :(
That's even worse. They seem to really try NOT to sell this car.
Fiat 500e HAD DC fast charging during testing, but they removed it for the final build :(
I wasn't being all negative about the car. I pointed out the pros and cons. Unfortunately, there are more cons than pros. Just compare this car with 2nd hand Leaf, Soul EV or even Zoe.
LOL! Good thing that finger-deep gizmo wasn’t a cigar trimmer. 😆
I wished to see this with updated batteries.
I own BMW I3 and Fiat 500e... Guess what, BMW hardly ever gets driven... Is it better than BMW?? NO, but way more fun... 8600$ out of door with 16,000 miles and 1 year full warranty 5 years battery warranty 25$ electricity 1,000 miles.... Hard to beat bang for the buck, paid more for my dirt bike....
My old 500e managed to get up to -50 kW of regen when it was dry and the state of charge was lower. I think when traction is low the car switches over to friction brakes to make sure you don't fly off the road. (The motor power screen is really the only screen to have up though.)
I managed to get up to -70 kW (even more) of regen when i was in very high speed and i go very hard on brakes !! :D One of THE BEST EVs !
The thing on the dash you called a button is where you plug a satnav in which then connects with the screen on the dash Speedo
It's a good thing you're not trying to interview for a job for Fiat.
I love watching your videos, Bjorn, but I must say I haven't laughed so much in ages! Fantastic job. "Orange cow" and "Optional two extra seats for people without legs!" Brilliant! LOL
About that parcel shelf, I currently have an Abarth 595 (a jumped up FIAT 500) while I'm waiting for my Model 3. When I saw the parcel shelf I too said "well that's pointless.." But it does seem to keep rear road noise out of the cabin slightly, and if I want to put my Brompton bicycle in the boot, I have to tilt up the parcel shelf to make room for the saddle. So it turns out that it is useful after all.
I think it's there more to hide what you've got in the "trunk".
Parcel shelf is a visual block for would-be-thieves.
We might have exceptionally patient kids, but our 15-year-old and 9-year-old are both fine in the back seat. (15-year-old sits behind a short front-seat adult which could help.) That's just puttering around town, not 4-hour road trips -- they might bitch about that.
Besides puttering around, it does daily 30mi round-trip commutes. We're still on the super-slow 120V charge at home, but even that is doing OK.
The SMART Electric drive is probably the closest competitor to the 500e. But even that has CCS fast charging now days. In my view it's pretty inexcusable to not have fast charging in any modern EV.
Bosch drivetrain, bosch inverter 80KW of power if i remember correctly, i have the same drivetrain but derated at 20KW, freakin awesome job Bosch.
Thanks for looking at the Fiat 500e! Used 500e's are around $10,000 USD here in the USA. For a second car they appear to be a lot of fun. I have the gas engine convertible model and I love mine (had to have a convertible). Just can't be your only car, although there's a fair amount of space with the rear seats down. By comparison, reviewers in the USA say the rear seat has more legroom room than the Mini (which costs much more).
You can lower the back seats.
About the lack of range and DC-fast charging. In Holland avg distance traveled per day will be below 100km ( small country) and 7 hrs charging (240v 16A) is good enough for charging at home overnight. DC fast charging will cost battery pack life with isn't important when it's a leasecar but is when fully owned. My Fiat charges on solar power so almost for free.
Here in the states used fiat e’s are dirt cheap. Mostly In California. They are great for someone that needs a car to get to work, school, or the grocery store and occasionally a ride to the airport. My friends have one and love it,...they got it new and with the lease they pay about $100/month and save over $200/month on gas and upkeep. It is a free car
Chris Bates which dealership? I’m in Sacramento
@@prettybaby80 Socal Preowned has a lot of them

You started driving at 13042km and estimated 98km and just before charging the gauge showed 13072km and 88km - real distance 30km and estimated dropped by 10, only!!! Amazing!!!
I have it and I love it. Compared to Nissan Leaf, the battery is fantastic, even though the car doesn't have Chademo.
Fiat just launched a proper electric 500 with 320 km range and fast charging. It should make a huge difference in the adoption of electric vehicles.
Still the same tiny rear seats, though. 😁
You always left the A/C on! That may have reduced the overall range.
+thepresi2 Yo big man, I don't wanna freeze. Man's not hot.
It was only -4°C. Something to test, maybe. What uses more power 19°C on the a/c or Bjorn in a full ski suit - with an ice scraper for the inside of the screen?
The ac is for removing humidity when ita cold outside , so you used it stupidly..
Any AC WILL NOT RUN when it is below 4 degrees Celcius, this is a physics principle related to the limits of refrigerant fluid condensation. So yes, you can press the knob and the light will turn on, but the AC compressor WILL NOT RUN. No matter if it's a Fiat, a Tesla or a Rolce-Roys. So turning it on in these conditions doesnt consume any energy what so ever.
It's great car to go shopping and back home for dinner. This button near the steering wheel is for Navigation TomTom :)
Please do a nimber in it!
Yeah, transporting a bouquet of flowers, a Box of Cleenex and 10 Apples! :D
Olle Svenska no way ten apples would fit in with the flowers! Six at best! ;)
But then maybe squeeze a Snickers in? I know, it is a Risk. But worth a try! ^^
I have a 500 and it's amazing what fits. It has a big opening which other cars don't, and is reasonable when seats are folded.
I like when the controls for the power windows are at the center of the dashboard like this. It permits both driver and passagenger to operate both windows at once without duplicating the controls and if you leave some one in the car, in the back seat while you go get something he can operate it as well.
A rare car with a nice, fresh interior
I love the white on the inside. Sick and tired of every single car being black on the inside all of the time.
Don't think this was negative at all. You were having great fun with it and made me want to get one. Ideal second car for some people. I just bought a 2014 Berlingo electric which I am more than happy with for our purposes but I did not see many reviews on it. You are welcome to try it if you are in Skåne 😊.
6’2” and I fit in ours. Keep one seat folded down can fit all kinds of stuff
Its "Frikkin Tiny" and it "nibbles" along Love it man, made me laugh so different from the other over polite reviewers ha, Keep it Up!
The leather is from an orange cow :D 5:20
Very nice testdrive! I have a 500e myself and very content with it. You yourself would buy a Leaf, I wouldn't because of the lack of battery heating/cooling with will cost you a new battery pack very soon: those battery pack hate cold or warm.
bjorn..u are not givin blinkers..at all..
The “button” on the dashboard is the Nav support
Let's not think only 'city' car, could be for country side errands, or people with daily/work commute of < 80km one way would be happy with it if they can plug as they work.
Takk for å være ærlig. Lurte på om den er grei pendle bil? Fra Oslo til Hønefoss (56km) ?
I have a 1970 FIAT 500L, 498cc ICE. This new one is HUGE alongside it :-) Just for the hell of it had 4 adults in it; I'm 6ft tall. Cosy. Enjoyed the review.
Bjørn, I thinkyou are missing the whole point of this car it is supposed to look like the org. model Fiat 500 from the late 50’s and that is the basic of the car as such, so its supposed to be a cute AND tiny city car.
"Rubbing it makes it wet" "I'm wet now!" LMAO I totally lost my shit.
Honest review. BTW, we shot the scenes of Steven van Zandts bar- and office for tv-series Lilyhammer at the basement of the Olavsgaard Hotel in the video.
These are great used car bargains in the USA. You can pickup a 2 year old Fiat 500e with less than 20,000 miles for under $9,000. The only issues are getting it trucked from California to where you live, and finding a public charger. In the midwest part of the US, public charging is almost non-existent.
Best part 26:24 - 27:04 😆 You should maybe talk about acquisition costs too for a better comparison, otherwise great review!
500e is very small (do the kids fit in the back, though?), no DC fast charging, BUT is one of the fastest EV. under 8s 0-100, only Tesla, Bolt and i3 can beat it.
A nice test, thank you Bjorn.
Summer is coming, what about a dual vlog sometimes you in Tesla me on a electric motorcycle?
Have you ever driven the VW e-up! ? If not maybe you can borrow my sisters one. She lives in Ås. If interested I can send her phone number.
"Back seat optional for people without legs". That cracked me up laughing. Reminded me of the Renault Cleo back seats which we couldn't get into when we tried it in the show room. Why do they even bother adding back seats in small cars.. just stupid.
I like the interior. Car looks sweet.
is it upgraded washing machine? :))
In my opinion Plastic in that car is better than in Tesla :) I have Tesla and i had 500 on my holidays weak ago :)
We else was thinking at 26:55 when he says "it get's wet when you rub it" "yea yea yea oh" ... no way...
Your running AC together with the heating, this will give false testing results. My 2 cents
Video stopped just before you entered hotel/restaurant although audio continued. Fair review, funny!
Would like to see the rest, could you send it to me by snail mail...? Lol
Haha i take out backsit for more roam for stuff.
Hi. One question: how can I set the Italian language on my 500e? Thank you
I love your sayings. "What the heck" "We have snow and ice and shit" :-)
I like the fact it has bright Orange LED displays good for seeing them in the daytime or cloudy days Which normal in the north of the world also the displays will be good for night viewing too.. red or orange work best for that better for the eyes to see? Nice car really, not for a small family but as you said if you are a single person or a couple without kids then a nice car for city.. thanks for the video.
Urinate on the frozen charge port and it will probably be the last and only time!
Huge fan from Denmark
"It's still kind of fossil"...yeah, i don't want a keyless system, where anyone with a bit of technical knowledge can get in to your vehicle^^ So i prefer the "fossil way" ;P
Im 6'1" and I fit fine in my 500e
Good info on fiat. Please make a review video of Mitsubishi i-MiEV or similiar citroen or peugeot car. Then, I guess, you have driven all of the available electric cars in this century.
Jørgen(?) always getting the shots 😞
i can watch you for hours
Great video Bjørn 👍🏻
6:50 you would be better off declaring the car a 2 seat car, removing the back seat and having a bigger trunk.
3:43 ice on the road ! LOL you make my day LOL...
The F1 driver Alonso has a normal 500 as daily car into the city. If i am correctly he should have switched it for the EV version. Small car for parking and just common so people don't pay attention.
Better say 2 seater and for 2 kids behind
Hey Bjorn.
The Smart For Two Electric Drive is the obvious car to compare the design and performance with.
If you haven't driven or reviewed one, you need to.
Also, you need to understand Italian design sensibilities. Form comes before function.
Bjørn lol "It actually gets wet when you rub it"
Bjorn you are hilarious, very entertaining. I want the 500e! Not sure if I should get one or save up for something several years later...
MythosGandaar yeah I’m in the same boat
Lmao...he said he could push it deep.. "that's what she said"...all jokes aside, that is for the navigation attachment...
I like this car. It's cute.
It doesn't have fast charging but it does have level 2 charging which is 240 volts. 240 volts is the maximum charging you can do at your house. It would be nice if it had fast charging but you would only use it when charging at a commercial charging station and since 99% of the charging you are going to do is at home charging with level two is as good as it gets.
The backseats are probably meant for children(?)
If it has ISOFIX, yes. I forgot to check.
the children seats would be pretty tight in there even without any ISOFIX :)
From a baby seat, legs of the kid stick out instead of dangling straight down. I think that backseat is meant for groceries and stuff.
18:41 For $32,000 why wouldn't you spend $35,000 and buy a base model 3 with no auto pilot? Lots more range + super charging.
Thank you for very long video love ev love your channel
Er den lang nok til å sove i, tror du?
I am triggered by Bjorn calling himself Asian...omg
Oke. I think you have shot your job opportunities at Fiat whaha !!!
Can you comfortably sleep inside two people by folding the back seats?
No, the car is too small for that.
Bjørn Nyland are front seats able to recline to a comfortable sleeping position?
A lot of the design decisions remind me of the Think City - center window switches etc. Look fun if it was cheap enough.
I didn't get how much does 500e cost.
Yo do not "freaking understand" what STYLE is. This is an nice urban car.
+MrKkprince And you don't understand how a good EV is.
Maybe , but You started the video with the clear aim to criticize at all costs. The Fiat 500 Ev or not it'a a very nice urban car. Designers who build the interiors are not such idiots.
You should read up and see what makes a good EV.
No frunk on the car? What’s under the bonnet? Or did I miss that part....?
A car for two people and two people without legs? Really very colorful, Björn, have you and wifey ever heard of the concept: kids?
Kids up to like age 5
ya, after your kids grow you have to get a divorce so they can ride in the front.
Brilliant!
I don't think you got my humor. We're not on the same wavelength.
Could you drift with tesla x on snow?
