A bad MAP sensor may not allow the car to start at all-it will crank but won’t hold the idle at a level that will keep the engine running; it will just die. While the RPMs are high-say, while cruising down the highway, nothing would happen, but the engine would die as soon as your foot is off the gas AND the RPMs drop. MAF isn’t so severe. My car will start and run with it unplugged. For how long and what problems that might cause I can’t say.
I use a cheap $10-20 bluetooth OBD2 adapter and $5 Torque app for Android. Works great on a phone or tablet. Pretty sure it will do all these tests, depending on what the ECM will allow it to read. I worked in a garage for a couple of years and used a several thousand dollar Snap-On Verus. Torque will probably do about 70% of what the Verus would do.
Thank you for this video.. very much needed. You say you put in a jumper wire at 4:50 With a fuse; what size fuse is that ? Or what size ohm resistor do I use to put a jumper wire on that ? Thanks again.
all of these videos are great , unless like me, your van wont idle and barely runs goosing the throttle, and your OBD scanner/ code reader gives you a version of; "sorry, we're not happy plugged in here" every time you plug it in.
Will a leaky intake manifold cause this sensor to read high or low at idle?I should add I have an old 5.7 Vortec Tahoe. very minor leak and no coolant going into engine at all.
its funny, MAP sensors are basically microphones. a diaphragm that changes a voltage range based on pressure waves. wonder if these could be used to detect knocks? i heard some cars have knock detecting microphones in them?

I have three pressure sensor in a bmw m235i ( ambient pressure, intake charge pressure and manifold pressure). Two ( ambient pressure and manifold pressure sensors) are dead steady at 1030 hpa whereas the intake charge pressure sensor varies between 1027-1033 hpa when using a ODB scanner .
