    This is the opposite of what I’ve heard and what I’ve experienced. My quad is fun but I can drive the fins through the turn with a bit of slide. The extra fin gives some extra push out of a bottom turn which creates more speed. I can ride this board in surf up to 6 ft. I’ve ridden it in 8 ft waves but I have a really hard time holding my line because the tail seems to want to slide down the wave.
    Alternatively, my thruster feels much more locked in. I can ride it in any size waves, but it really performs best in bigger waves and good conditions.

      yeah I agree, similar experience on short board, Waveski and Surfkayak, yet everyone says quad is tighter and makes more drawn out lines. yet those people have the high rake fines with the stabilising fin waaaaay back.

    Do quads offer more “grip” though (quad is my every day set up)? I think it’s the speed that it generates that makes you feel like you have more grip.

    • @Akewatu
      @Akewatu  Год назад +1

      Hey Zane, yes you have more grip because you have always 2 fins at least in the water ;)

    BS. Not all boards work the same. Depends on tail shape and width, trailer fin box placement, fin size and shape, etc. I have the exact same board shown in this vid and it works much better as a quad. It's at least 10% faster than as a thruster and actually pivots in a tighter arc.

      Hey Tara
      Thank you for your feedback.
      Yes of course, I agree with you, it is a general rule and it depends also on every surfer taste . Quad are faster because of the water flow compare to thruster :)
      Happy 2022 & happy surf 🤙🏽

      @@simonfooks6962 they are also for big waves too. When you’re dropping in on a steeper face, let’s say a 15-20ft face, you want ALL the traction you can get. Quad offers 2 fins “gripping” the face instead of one or one and the center fin
      Hope that clears things up.
      Quads are great for small or BIG surf. They’re my all rounder 👍🏼👍🏼
