Fantastic review CGR, you seem to be one of the best reviewers on RUclips. Keep up the good work and keep appreciating games for their beauty and intent!!
Ryan, this is one of the best reviews you've ever done. Your enthusiasm for this game is palpable. Good job! I can't wait to get this now. I've been waiting for quite some time.
I just finished the game for god knows how many times now. After half a year not playing I came back to check something. Tears ran into my eye, this game is beautiful.
i just finished playing this game and it was indeed a journey on so many levels.i too cant recommend this game enough. i feel people need to experience it themselves.
They're purposely showing you only footage from the first 20mins because they don't want to spoil the impressive art style and visuals. It's something you'll want to experience, not watch. As for the gameplay, it is quite simple, but it's elegant and engaging. It's the atmosphere and art style that'll drag you in. If you have any appreciation for art or any emotional maturity, you'll be moved by this game, I promise you. It's one of the best games I've ever played, and it's unique.
I'd call it an experience, not a game, it really is amazing, they dont show much in the trailer so they dont ruin the experience, and having next to no communication is part of it, its incredible, i couldn't think of a way it could be any better!
There is also a Journey Arcade game about the band Journey. Yeah. you heard that right. and it is awesome. You guys need to review it if you haven't already
Gijs, I'm not goin to flame you, but I think it's my duty to persuade you to give this game a chance. What was shown was only the first 2 levels as to not give anything away. But by the end of this 2 1/2 hour emotional journey, you'll want to play it again and again, you'll want to show your friends, you'll want to show everyone you know about this game. By far this is one of the very few games that has stuck with me- I hum the soundtrack everyday and god damn I will never forget the truly awe
Thatgamecompany has created one of the single most emotional games of our lifetime. it joins the ranks of that of Shadow of The Colossus and ICO. the ambiguity and atmosphere is top notch and constantly draws you in and wont let you go. i have never cared so much for a faceless protagonist, never questioned a games history, and have never been left in wonderment in a video game like i was with journey. do yourself a favor and spread the word, and do anything you can to play this game. Game on
many people say the game is to short but i think the length is perfect this game is meant to be played in one session, so making it much longer is in my opinion not a good idea. I could never imagine just pausing the game halfway through to continue it tomorrow that'd throw me out completely
Well, I have no clue why people always include CoD, It gets annoying when people do that, but for the other things you said. Yeah, its not only about art, but art does have alot to do with the "awe" factor of this game. Yeah, I have to admit this game wont be played much in a year, but i dont think this game will really be forgotten. Oh and also as for your first comment in the comment section. It only seems gay, because some people do that weird calmer voice when playing or reviewing the game
I find it pretty funny that one of the games I got most furious with...I mean absolutely livid playing, was flower. Oh yeah, lovely, relaxing game, but then trophy's come along and say, HEY...Bet you can't beat this single level without taking damage...And proceeded to force me into power lines against my control after spending like 30 minutes getting through the level.
Ahh, fair enough. I wasn't harping on your preference or anything, just thought you didn't quite understand the games. Well, it's your opinion anyways. But thanks for having an non-troll response.
At some parts were the sun reflected off the grown and he was floating above it, at first I thought it was water....but realize my assumption was wrong and it was sand....hmmm
Making a review to this game must be really hard. Because after you play it you'll want to tell everyone to buy it and at the same time you wouldn't like to tell any details about it so you don't spoil it. xD
It's an experience kind of game, it's main intention is to get immersed into the game by the music, the visuals and the emotion, almost like an interactive movie, though i agree that this game isn't for everyone, if you liked games like Flow, Flower and The Unfinished Swan or, you might like this, if not it's probably just not your cup of tea, but i do not see the reason to call the game 'Gay'.
@T888HK Sony isn't the developer. Sony doesn't own thatgamecompany. They're an indie development studio. Team Ico is Sony owned. They aren't forcing it down your throat though. You don't have to play the game if you don't want to. the developers are using the structure of a game to make interactive art, and they do a good job. Unlike a lot of games which are just made to cash in, games like SotC, Ico, and Journey are meant to emotionally drive the player, and they all do it perfectly.
Sorry, but less than 2 hours isn't a Journey, it's more of a "I'll go for a walk, brb". Too expensive. Looks nice, but it's too expensive for such a short game.
Ok I can tell you never played ICO or this game. (or at least understand) 1. There was no "love" story. It was a mutually beneficial relationship that was NOT that one dimensional. 2. Journey has creatures that literally tear you up later on. 3. Why did you bring Zelda into this? I hope you're not as close minded as you seem to be.
@Rqoiz A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ass time ago. Right befor the put up a review for Fester's quest. Kevin's favorite game
@voro122 Yeah, and people even complain about the $15 pricetag, which I don't understand. Thats less then a new DVD where i am, and no movie can give you the same experiance as this game can. It is worth $15, heck its worth a whole lot more. This game is fantastic
What would you say if the game was released for Xbox 360 and not PS3? Judging consoles like that is fucking stupid, ultimately, the games make the console.
@09Thewilson It has more to do with the quality of their products and the way they treat their own customers like criminals. I used to have a PS1 and I loved it. But I also believe the Xbox 360 to be the superior gaming console, which I why I bought one. It had nothing at all to do with price
Lol, nice fail comment. 1. If only kids like this sort of thing, then I guess they can spot art better then adults. and 2. gullible doesnt even work for video games, because even though you could be persuaded to buy a game, which reviews will do to people, that doesnt mean you will like it.
Your question was too silly to answer? .....More like the poor guy couldn't comprehend it! Outside the box game, not suited for outside the box thinkers it seems..
Don't mean to sound like a troll, but this game looks...rather bland. I mean, visually it's decent for a dlc, but it looks like nuthin but desert, ruins, and then...desert with a cool filter. As for gameplay, it looks like flying and sand-surfing is all there is too it. Finally, wouldn't the whole 'Anon' thing put a damper on the interactive fun? Granted, you'll never be called a "n00b faggot", but still...
+Daniel Callahan nope, I really appreciate innovative ideas, however, there's some kind of trend among indie games that tries too hard to look artsy, and ends up leaning towards pretentiousness. I'm OK with new ideas, but I'm also really fed up with the hole "videogames are art" trend.

Daniel Callahan Look I'm sorry if it offends you but to call out my position as stupid only because it doesn't fit your taste that's pretty stupid as well, Also, you should take a look back to my first comment like two months or more ago to find that I was really courious about it. And FYI, luckily I found someone who owned it and let me tell you that it was pretty much a game that I wouldn't play again. It's ok but not the masterpiece some say it is. At least from my point of view. I try to be very cautious of where I place my money and having already literally WASTED quite a bit of money (damn you Gabe!!!!) on games that I thought looked interesting because it's art approach or premise looked interesting I tend to be really cautious about indie games.

I got this game when it came out and never played.
This is a great review.
Just played the game for the first time. It was pretty good and I was pleasantly surprised to find other players still on PS3.
.....if you with to the "players met" menu on the ps3 home screen could you see the person you played with?
looks awesome. great review!
Is this only on the PSN or are there physical copies of this game out there?
pure artistry. amazing work done here.
i just finished playing this game and it was indeed a journey on so many levels.i too cant recommend this game enough. i feel people need to experience it themselves.
This game is pure Masterpiece

You can move the camera by tilting the controller but not the character.
Penny Arcade ripped it on this one: "Dude, hang on, I dropped my bong."
I was going to buy this game, but then I took... No wait, I forgot about it and never knew if it actually released. :-) Thanks Ryan, you reminded me.
I like the length, it was more impact full because u played it in one sitting
how much is it?
Well, I have no clue why people always include CoD, It gets annoying when people do that, but for the other things you said. @ANIMEman0519
No. However, after the credits roll at the end it will give you the names of the people you've met along the way.
Purchasing right NOW!!
What happened to Kevin? Has he quit CGR?
is this really a only ps3 exclusive? :-( think i'm gonna have to get one, just for this!
I agree, if it were to be longer, you wouldnt be able to play with another person throughout, cause you'd have to stop then come back.
I find it pretty funny that one of the games I got most furious with...I mean absolutely livid playing, was flower. Oh yeah, lovely, relaxing game, but then trophy's come along and say, HEY...Bet you can't beat this single level without taking damage...And proceeded to force me into power lines against my control after spending like 30 minutes getting through the level.
because it doesn't have explosions every 10 seconds?
2 hours? Idk, maybe if you rush, but I never finished it that fast.
Ahh, fair enough. I wasn't harping on your preference or anything, just thought you didn't quite understand the games. Well, it's your opinion anyways. But thanks for having an non-troll response.
I wonder if it's possible to beat this game without platforming. As soon as you start just hold forward to the mountain lol.
this defines the world and where the world is...
At some parts were the sun reflected off the grown and he was floating above it, at first I thought it was water....but realize my assumption was wrong and it was sand....hmmm
Making a review to this game must be really hard. Because after you play it you'll want to tell everyone to buy it and at the same time you wouldn't like to tell any details about it so you don't spoil it. xD
Hope this fuels the trend of artistic games.
Sure, why not. The game only got it's retail release in Europe in June, 2013.
It's too bad I only have a PS2 and a 360, because this looks great.
just bought the game yesterday and i ran into a few people, so yea people still play this game.
i must play this after i finish batman,,,locks intersting,reminds me of prince of persia 2008 combined with ''flower'' in Rub' al Khali desert...
I think I'm going to cry.
is it because ou refuse to accept that anything related to sony is any good (no offence if not) or you can't afford a ps3?
@BeautyBoyTV It IS a PSN game... It's only $15.
But it needs to be longer, this game looks amazing, a couple hours isn't enough.
@T888HK

Too expensive. Looks nice, but it's too expensive for such a short game.
This needs to come to 360.
Journey was awesome!
@RedEggsCereal They do.
@AL1NO3 no it ain't, £10 is not enough we need to support the developer more
I hate no haveing a physical copy but if i get a ps3 ill buy this
Ok I can tell you never played ICO or this game. (or at least understand) 1. There was no "love" story. It was a mutually beneficial relationship that was NOT that one dimensional. 2. Journey has creatures that literally tear you up later on. 3. Why did you bring Zelda into this? I hope you're not as close minded as you seem to be.
This is honestly the best-looking game this gen. This vid didn't even show the impressive parts (for spoiler reasons i guess).
Ryan made me want this game badly, but i don't have any money =(
Damn. I knew I shoulda gotten a PS3 instead of the Wii. Oh well. At least I have Boom Blocks and Metroid Prime :P
@Rqoiz A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ass time ago. Right befor the put up a review for Fester's quest. Kevin's favorite game
@JesusCristo2002 well, you can always go back and play Ico and Shadow of the Colossus =)
@voro122 Yeah, and people even complain about the $15 pricetag, which I don't understand. Thats less then a new DVD where i am, and no movie can give you the same experiance as this game can. It is worth $15, heck its worth a whole lot more. This game is fantastic
This game is just beautiful, and I had a chance to play it but I wasted it and I don't have a PS3 no more and agh just fuck me.
What would you say if the game was released for Xbox 360 and not PS3? Judging consoles like that is fucking stupid, ultimately, the games make the console.

@UnNamedAsylum Only on PSN so far.
perfection
Because you have bad tastes in gaming? You know, if you don't like the game you're not forced to play it, so don't come here and complain.
Why? Cause every game has to have a deep complicated plot, guns and guts 'n blood getting thrown everywhere to be considered "manly"? Define manly.
Game of the year 2012
Don't try to reason with someone who uses "gay" as an insult.
Lol, nice fail comment. 1. If only kids like this sort of thing, then I guess they can spot art better then adults. and 2. gullible doesnt even work for video games, because even though you could be persuaded to buy a game, which reviews will do to people, that doesnt mean you will like it.
awww i thought this was a guitar hero game... y won't u release a guitar hero Journey
@glitchz1 That's sad...
Well, i don't watch undertow so often since i find the reviewers to be not so good. Therefore i didn't know about it.
Unlike IGN hes honest! They want money. IGN gave Days Gone a bad rating. It's a great game!
You get a psn id after you finish the game.
Your question was too silly to answer? .....More like the poor guy couldn't comprehend it! Outside the box game, not suited for outside the box thinkers it seems..
How old are you again, kid? =P
I used to be first like the rest of you but then I took an arrow to my keyboard slightly delaying me.
Well, let me know when it shows up on XBOX, because I will never own a Sony product.
Review Twisted Metal 2012!!!!!!!
Don't mean to sound like a troll, but this game looks...rather bland. I mean, visually it's decent for a dlc, but it looks like nuthin but desert, ruins, and then...desert with a cool filter. I don't know, it looks like those artsy pretentious indie games of late, I'm tempted to buy it on the PSN flashsale, but I'm not sure if it's my type.
+javierortiz82 same
+Daniel Callahan nope, I really appreciate innovative ideas, however, there's some kind of trend among indie games that tries too hard to look artsy, and ends up leaning towards pretentiousness. I'm OK with new ideas, but I'm also really fed up with the hole "videogames are art" trend.

y? just get a ps3.. theres a such thing called exclusives
Still looks like a bunch of grains of sand to me.
Just as i said, what has something to be to be considered manly?
@689433 This game isn't a $60 dollar game stupid, it's $15.
@joeyseto I can adopt a kid for free and get paid to take care of him. thats 18 years of fun.
Kid... go and play your CoD
£10 is too much
Mohamed from Qatar simulator!?
@pokemonizkooolio he deserves that :3
You're not a gamer if you did not play with game. Full stop.
@GijsRijbewijs Why, cause you're too close minded to accept anything thats not a direct rip off of call of duty?
its tax tine get a ps3
LAST!
BORING!
Oh man,,,you're hilarious! You're a fail troll! x3
Bronze medal of nothing.
