You have some really neat jars! I can definitely see the potential. I have so many jars, plastic containers, and miscellaneous items to use for crafts. I was collecting them to use, but also so it won’t go to a landfill.

I continue to power through your tutorials, having a day of inspiration. I did not reply on the previous tutorial I watched buy since this one is similar I will share a tidbit here. I was inspired by your clay enhanced metal pencil sharpeners. I ordered mine via eBay, they should arrive this month. Judging by the Swordfish box in your stash you may have plenty but just in case I paid $5.89 for 20. They actually sell them in groups of 5 for $1.47 US. I bought extra because I will use them during my next session with an adorable group of special needs children. There's 15 in the current group. Kneading the clay will help with their concentration and motor skills. I admit I will do a bit of touch-up before anything goes in the oven. The thicker the clay the easier it will be for many of them to actual hold and utilize their sharpeners. This project will certainly be less messy than some we have tackled.
A real encouragement to try other things. I usually make figures, think I’m going to have a crack at some boxes and bottles aaaand make one or two other embellishments for my faerie garden 🤩👍🏼 xxx

I think you have become my new favorite or at least 1 of the few absolute polymerclay artists. Thank you so very much. I do have 1 more bit of information that so far very few have heard of, but I did find one video on it. If you bake a very thin piece of clay, like you did in one of your videos where you made a veneer, once it is baked it can be cut with a steel rule die in your die cut machine. I tried it in my big shot plus machine worked great, I may attempt to try it with a thinlit die as well. Have a great day?

Another very nice little video, oots of ideas, many thanks. I have started my first model, it is a T Rex and WAY bigger than I thought it would ne, { smaller with the tin foil model next time }, I am building him in parts but IF he keeps getting bigger as I go he may end up life size lol
I save all kinds of stuff to use for my crafting. For me the biggest collection ends up being sardine tins. I just love sardines and then I have been using the tins lately to make ponds with resin, polymer clay fish etc. , glass pebbles, moss and so on. I still have yet to make the one with tadpoles :p I love making the pens too and I realized they don't melt in the oven. I have an idea for how I want my next one to look but feeling rather uninspired lately or maybe just overwhelmed with how much stuff I have on my plate. :p I also have a half dozen baby food jars that I had planned to make ponds with as well but then decided they looked more like specimen jars so going to make some creepy things for Halloween using polymer clay creatures encased in resin. I also have four round votive glass candle holders I picked up from the dollar store which I intend to make fish bowls out of again using clay and resin. I have one started already and a water dragon is going to live in it. :D - Heidi
Unruly Housewife I have made a lot of things from resin and even found out today there is a 3D printer that uses a UV resin. :) it is way too expensive still for me... only a few thousand dollars. :p Oddly enough though using resin as 'water' is fast becoming my favorite way to use resin. :D

I think your lighting was perfect actually . and you have some wonderful ideas many of which I would have done myself or already have done. keep the wonderful claying up. another thing I like doing are spoons and forks too.
+Unruly Housewife I've done a few its soooo fun I've done a superhero set for a lil boy and he just loved them. and I've done a few of the large utensils for like ladles and things like that for a family member in a themed to their kitchen. the designs are endless as you can imagine. i take a little bit of scrap clay put it around and then you can use cane slices on the outside or decorated with a Skinner blend and then embellished. just as long as there's no clay on any part that's going to touch food or a person's mouth and you're good I would like to see any ideas that you would come up. so maybe one day you can do a tutorial and play with it a little bit

a thought... your heart shaped dish. could you make a cast of the inside in clay, which could then be used as an inside mold, so you could decorate the new outside? I guess if it works, any non-undercut dish would do - I just liked the heart shaped one ...

I've got a big pack of white, Sculpy, I think, a pasta roller & some dotting tools and other art supplies but I haven't ever done anything with them. I guess I'm just so excited & overwhelmed at the same time. Can anyone suggest an easy project (not jewelry or little mini food things, as I'm not really into that stuff much) for a total beginner that's easy but will look awesome?

It's odd but unless the dish is shallow, it just clings on. Teresa Pandora Salgado (her videos are awesome) does it a lot and just washes them gently. If you want to take the clay off (which is what I like to do) just bake normally and then carefully run your nail around the rim (between the clay and the glass). As the air gets in you can ease it away, or push a slither of card down and wiggle it about. provided you have baked for long enough the clay should be a little flexible and come loose. The other way to guarantee clay stays ON the glass is to chose something that tapers at the bottom and top, so the clay is effectively wrapped around it and can't slide up or down. xx
The candlestick holders are a special type of glass they glow under blue uv light worth a ton of money! Uranium glass or vasoline glass it's called thoes are worth about $50 us
loved this one! Now that 10 months have passed, has your box of pens been decorated, or is it still full? Would the little bottles be any good for perfume? Or is the polymer clay stopper likely to be too porous (or too loose a fit)?
Absolutely! They melt sand to make glass (I think), so the heat we use to bake clay is nothing lol. Some people let the oven cool down before taking their stuff out, just in case the glass cracks, but I haven't had that problem.
I’ve just made some pens for my daughter using the bic that I purchased in poundland. Have just bought a second pack just encase. I need to go Lidl and buy some pate as the jar is very handy. Oh and I’ve just put the bath bomb mould into my cart on Amazon lol. Ok I’m going to stop watching now otherwise I will spend a fortune and not move from my sofa :)
Hello from Watervliet, NY! I’m new to polymer clay, and I’ve watched your tutorials for inspiration and tips. I want to cover tuna cans with polymer clay cane designs. I think they would be a cool things to plant succulents in. Plus, they don’t take up that much room. How would I go about baking them? Your jar has a lip in the glass to hold the clay in place, but I’m wondering if clay would slide off of a can. Do you have any pointers????? I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Hi Claudine! What a great idea! "Bake and Bond" by Sculpey would help adhere your clay to the can I think but in any case I'd guess the clay won't mind sort of suctioning onto the metal. My favourite way of baking is on a ceramic tile, maybe tent it with foil (to help prevent scorching, in the event of a temperature spike).If you go for it with some scrap clay and do a test, that's your best bet. I think it'll be absolutely fine - let me know, OK?
re: the white ceramic pate dish - why couldn't you cover the marks with clay? The video was made a couple of years ago - what did you end up doing with them? They're a lovely shape.
That was a great video - thank you! I have a "beginner's question". Some of the items become part of the finished piece and some are just used as molds. How do you get the clay to stick to the items where you need it to stick but get it loose from the items that are used as molds?
Thank you! If you lever the clay enough, it will come right off, so it's easy for molds. If you want clay to stay on, it depends how you have applied it - you can have a "mechanical bond", where the clay is wrapped around in such a way that it can't physically get off (because it is fixed around a curve, or a knob, for example. You can also have a bond made with adhesive, such as superglue. Often people will pry the clay off the object, apply superglue and put it back. If you cover the entire outside of a deep bowl/vase though, I think somebody would have to be pretty determined to take it off, even without glue.
Thanks for the ideas! I've got some little glass bowls I'd like to try, but I was wondering if the baked clay will release easily from the glass. If it comes off easily, how do you keep the clay on glass things you want to decorate? Does the liquid Sculpey or Bake and Bond make that possible? (Oh, and what is the difference between liquid Sculpey and Bake and Bond?
Liquid Sculpey and Bake and Bond are probably very similar (Bake and Bond might be thicker?). The clay does release, if you want it to but if the sides are steep enough it would stay on, I think. Or with vines etc.you could release it and put it back with clear glue like Pavelka PolyBonder. If you wrap clay around a shape that has a channel in it, or gets wider then thinner, you can create a "mechanical bond", where the clay would have to split to slip off. ;) xx
If you can wrap the clay around in a way that means it can't slip off, because there are narrow places (a "mechanical bond") then no glue is necessary. Otherwise you can either rely on the "suction" effect of a large area of clay in contact with the glass (say a whole deep jar) and careful washing etc. OR you can use glue. I use Lisa Pavelka's Poly Bonder but others say a good superglue is fine.
It IS made of plastic (Urea-formaldehyde I think) but it doesn't melt at the kind of low temperature used to cure clay. The Bic pens I showed at the end can be baked without melting and I'm very sure light switches have to undergo stricter safety tests than a cheap biro. LOL I was surprised at first though, it feels weird to put plastic stuff in the oven!
After 3+ years away from PC, I have returned - other arts/crafts improving my clay skills that I am now investing and scheming to get dreams closer to real .... so when I saw that Stilton crock, I thought I need one!!! I don't care for pate (thinking of goose liver kind, ick) THEN I see it's cheese!!! :) Happy days, I can eat it, love it and to heck with allergies - I get a crock!!! Then I see 8oz of cheese in a crock is over $36 USD. Crazy offer if you'd be interested ... I will pay for the cheese filled crock - if you go to store (IT MUST be cheaper where you live), you eat the cheese - then send me the crock. Yup, crazy American, thank you. Hello from Watervliet, NY! I’m new to polymer clay, and I’ve watched your tutorials for inspiration and tips. I want to cover tuna cans with polymer clay cane designs. I think they would be a cool things to plant succulents in. Plus, they don’t take up that much room. How would I go about baking them? Your jar has a lip in the glass to hold the clay in place, but I’m wondering if clay would slide off of a can. Do you have any pointers????? I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Hi Claudine! What a great idea! "Bake and Bond" by Sculpey would help adhere your clay to the can I think but in any case I'd guess the clay won't mind sort of suctioning onto the metal. My favourite way of baking is on a ceramic tile, maybe tent it with foil (to help prevent scorching, in the event of a temperature spike).If you go for it with some scrap clay and do a test, that's your best bet. I think it'll be absolutely fine - let me know, OK?

re: the white ceramic pate dish - why couldn't you cover the marks with clay? The video was made a couple of years ago - what did you end up doing with them? They're a lovely shape.

That was a great video - thank you! I have a "beginner's question". Some of the items become part of the finished piece and some are just used as molds. How do you get the clay to stick to the items where you need it to stick but get it loose from the items that are used as molds?
Thank you! If you lever the clay enough, it will come right off, so it's easy for molds. If you want clay to stay on, it depends how you have applied it - you can have a "mechanical bond", where the clay is wrapped around in such a way that it can't physically get off (because it is fixed around a curve, or a knob, for example. You can also have a bond made with adhesive, such as superglue. Often people will pry the clay off the object, apply superglue and put it back. If you cover the entire outside of a deep bowl/vase though, I think somebody would have to be pretty determined to take it off, even without glue.

Thanks for the ideas! I've got some little glass bowls I'd like to try, but I was wondering if the baked clay will release easily from the glass. If it comes off easily, how do you keep the clay on glass things you want to decorate? Does the liquid Sculpey or Bake and Bond make that possible? (Oh, and what is the difference between liquid Sculpey and Bake and Bond?
Liquid Sculpey and Bake and Bond are probably very similar (Bake and Bond might be thicker?). The clay does release, if you want it to but if the sides are steep enough it would stay on, I think. Or with vines etc.you could release it and put it back with clear glue like Pavelka PolyBonder. If you wrap clay around a shape that has a channel in it, or gets wider then thinner, you can create a "mechanical bond", where the clay would have to split to slip off. ;) xx

If you can wrap the clay around in a way that means it can't slip off, because there are narrow places (a "mechanical bond") then no glue is necessary. Otherwise you can either rely on the "suction" effect of a large area of clay in contact with the glass (say a whole deep jar) and careful washing etc. OR you can use glue. I use Lisa Pavelka's Poly Bonder but others say a good superglue is fine.

i have a question: what is the light switch made of? is it plastic? doesn't it melt? i'm a lil bit confused
It IS made of plastic (Urea-formaldehyde I think) but it doesn't melt at the kind of low temperature used to cure clay. The Bic pens I showed at the end can be baked without melting and I'm very sure light switches have to undergo stricter safety tests than a cheap biro. LOL I was surprised at first though, it feels weird to put plastic stuff in the oven!

what do you use if you want your clay to stick to the ceramic object?
Sometimes, say if you wrapped it around a jar, it just stays. Otherwise I would take it off after baking and try super glue, or Crafter's Pick.
After 3+ years away from PC, I have returned - other arts/crafts improving my clay skills that I am now investing and scheming to get dreams closer to real .... so when I saw that Stilton crock, I thought I need one!!! I don't care for pate (thinking of goose liver kind, ick) THEN I see it's cheese!!! :) Happy days, I can eat it, love it and to heck with allergies - I get a crock!!!
Then I see 8oz of cheese in a crock is over $36 USD.

Are dishes/plates made with Polymer clay food safe?
No they aren't. As I understand it, they are not toxic but they have a porous texture that can't be fully cleaned enough to be "food safe".
