Skyrims arms-to-arms combat is really shit without mods and especially since I play DD, I don't want to go back to such boring games where you just swing your sword from one side of the screen to the other. DD is even refered as a hack and slash but Skyrim deserves this title more. Of course Skyrim has the benifit that it has more than the way of direct confrontation to success (assasinations/thievery, diplomacy and other) and the best side quests.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) It's kind of funny how with all the improvements the ES games have seen over the years the melee combat in Skyrim still plays pretty much exactly the fucking same as in Daggerfall. Dev 1 "Hey guys think we should work on the decades old melee combat system?" Dev 2 "Nah man, no time. We have to finish making 50 more custom faces for Town NPCs and Guards who are all going to repeat the same 3 lines"
I actually really enjoy ES fighting mechanics. In fact, I think it wouldn't feel as much like an elder scrolls title if it didn't work the way it does. Idk. Maybe they could improve aspects (and they have actually) but hopefully they don't change it too much. I especially don't want to zoom around like an anime character. Though actually if it was more like mount and blade that would be tiiiight. Like an improved daggerfall with the directional attacking and blocking. And the boss battles in this game look pretty incredible.
Well, the director of the original game (Itsuno) was given a choice on which he wanted to do first between a new DD and DMC and he chose the latter, so we got DMC5. Recently Netflix had that crappy DD anime, and Itsuno is currently working on *something*...
@@z1ggyn124 From what Ive seen it looks like its due a 2022 release... So hopefully we dont get 'Soaked to the bone' before that. Honestly though, this game even in 2020 was a little golden gem of a game. Never heard of it before, saw it on steam though hmmm why not give this a try. Am i glad I did, the combat in this game feels fun and rewarding, along with the armours weapons and skills you unlock. The freedom to be what ever class you wish to be... and the sheer number of hidden things in the game, its a game that encourages you to be nosey, to explore and engage. Rare indeed to find a game like this.
You know what grinds my gears about Dragon's Dogma? When your character can rest at inns or at random tent spots. Pays up to 500 or 100 even 50 gold. But can't even go to their own home in Cassardis and rest for free! Lol
Right? You literally have a placed called "Your House" with a bed and necessities. And your pawns literally comment on it being your home. Yet you can't rest in your own bed lol. Sorry I know your comment is 2 years old but I'm just playing for the first time.
@@rawkhawk414 I'm replying to you 2 months later lol. I hope you overall enjoyed the game. I broke the game years ago and till this day I'll gladly go back in play it just to brake it again. Also to throw the boy that blames you for the death of his parents into the bottomless pit.
@@jadenraphael0793 The game has you fight the final boss at the beginning of the game you saved your village kinda. Just to spend money at a inn in your home village lmao!
2020 still holds up with Dark Arisen. Fast travel is a thing now with an infinite ferry crystal. You do still need to place the fast travel points but you can put them where ever you want. Also it is expected that DD2 is going to be announced soon by the director of Devil May Cry. Play it. Amazing game. Plus you will learn that wolves hunt in packs and their ilk ill likes fire!
@@alpahanum3862 Man I think there is a lot you're missing out on already. PS3 was amazing but you gotta check out things like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Metal Gear Solid the Phantom Pain, Final Fantasy 7 remake, and so many others. It's worth it boo.
SADLY games don't grasp what Dogma has brought to the RPG universe. The newer games just don't grasp how truly epic it is to climb a Chimera and take out the goat and snake head to weaken the creature. Or going high into the air on a dragon and still hacking away at it. I wish more RPG's would look into this game.
If anyone's still interested, Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen has fixed a ton of issues and even though some still remain, all of the major ones have been fixed. You have an eternal ferrystone (used for teleporting to portcrystal locations), portcrystals in all major cities, plus unlocking an additional 10 portable portcrystals which you can place anywhere, travel to/from, and switch around at any time. The combat is still awesome. And yes, Joe, they've even changed the title screen theme. The only thing that really bothered me is the fact that you still to this day only have 1 save file (if you rest at an inn you create a "checkpoint save", or a "hard save", so in a way there are 2 save files.). Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen is a solid 9,5/10 and I would love to see a sequel.
The Eternal ferry stone is for buying Dark Arison while owning the original game. If you buy The Disc of Dark Arison, you still need to find other ferrystones.
@@zmanthekiller6536 that was for last gen xbox and playstation. For pc and the new gen releases you get Dark Arisen and no bs like that. The micro transactions are also gone.
randomman2588 been playing it, and loving every second. All Port Crystals in use at every camp in Gransys makes life sooo much easier, and you aren’t forced to make a two hour trek across the map for a damn bounty.
Benjamin Worswick There is fast travel though (one that allows you to fast travel from anywhere, even in the middle of combat). Granted that in the original game you only had a few place to go and it cost you resources (granted cheap and farmable ones). Dark Arisen fixed a lot of that though (you get free fast travel and 10 new place to use it to get. Granted you have to discover them), not to mention the amount of new content (the DLC not being a problem anymore) and other good fixes. Wish that was the version Joe had played.
The game is on sale now. If you are saying that I won't be running back and forwards the same road with same enemies a million times and can actually fast travel without any down sides Im gonna buy it.
@@stilmaho There is infinite ferrystone for free if you gain access to Asalam storage in Dark Arisen. The Port Crystal destinations will seem limited in early game (Gran Soren & Cassardis) but you later found a few portable version that you will actually know where to efficiently put it to make you travel easier and dont have to haul your Arisen butt up the whole trek from Gran Soren. Though pawn still dying to Goblins! and Harpy!
+ESO - Fallout & Elder Scrolls Guides Is Dark Arisen the same game or a sequel?? I thought it was a sequel, but either way it's been on my wishlist for a while now lol
@@nicolefryman471 yep i just bought it for the xbox one when my 360 version was damaged and i love that the game is hard by default but really rewards effort and skill
The RPG part of this game is poor, storyline sucks, crafting sucks, the character development is super simplistic, the world is small and empty, has 1 city and it sucks, and so on. This is an action game with cool boss battles with some rpg flavor.
Gorki XXX The only great things are Boss fights, Equipments (Except for the overpowered one you got in Bitterblack Isle which lookc bad), Skills, Pawns.............. and idk I just want a sequel for this game
Overpowered one? It's just bad? You cleary haven't played a single bit of the DLC. The 4 mandatory bosses of BBI are amazing, except maybe the first one that's more eh as it's one of the easiest bosses in the game. The final boss of BBI is one of the most memorable in any game I've played, sure the cut scene at the end was kind of shit, but the boss was great.
I sadly have to reveal like with Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Capcom failed to once again secure the rights to Into Free, which means sadly the awesome J-Rock song will not be the opening theme to the anime.
Here after having played DD2 for a week straight before I begrudgingly had to go back to work 😂😂 I do have Dark Arisen on the Switch tho to get my monster killing fix lol. And thus I ended up here
Shadow Zylo You'd look alot more credible if you didn't thumb up your own comment. Get the fuck out hater, I love Dark Souls but these bosses taking a steaming shit on every Dark Souls boss to date. "Here let me kill this massive fucking Ancient Dragon by stabbing it in the toe 70 times while perfectly timing my rolls." Yeah. Really epic.
+Attila Pataki (Athosz) I think the lack of story is kinda good as well. It about your adventure trough the world. Its your story. Yeah sounds like a bunch of PR but that is how I remember the game from my time with it on the X360
John Thomas Sorry. I have to completely disagree. Witcher 3's combat is among the most mediocre in any game genre. I find older turn based combat RPGs to be superior to Witcher 3's real action combat. Also Fallout 4 has better combat though it isn't a traditional style RPG.
Gamer Singer Wha-? Why? It feels so realistic, dodging and rolling, drinking potions, casting signs, parrying, countering, having a strong attack or fast attack, throwing bombs, laying a trap. So many options that are seamlessly placed in combat with a quick little radial menu. Movement looks realistic too, not cartoony at all.
John Thomas lots of things. And I assure you it is not realistic but Dragons Dogma isn't either. The problem is The Witcher has way too many problems with the core combat mechanics. The way the targeting is implemented, Also the fall damage is bad. Like worse than Halo CE bad. And that is saying something. Their magic system is too laughable and way too restricted. And the whole potions and oils wasn't that great of an idea to start with. Also wish they hadn't used leveled loot. Very few games can pull that off properly. IE Borderlands 2. And even then I think it should be swapped for something more up to date. The leveling system relies way too much on the actual gear than your own skills to make you stronger/tougher. I found combat in Witcher 3 to be very bland and forgetful. And I know I am not the only one. Seems to be the majority feels the same way. They need to work on those things. I think more games can learn from Dragons Dogma for combat. physical and magic.
@@personalnormal5935 For me, it's the only major issue with this game. Because yes we can change our class whenever, but it ruin our character stats if we level up with other class.
@Kapitan Dupa The story is less deep than you originally think, read the character Bios. The story is that your character is inherently special and better than everyone because you have more initiative than everyone else in the world, you were an orphan who was constantly fighting and adventuring during their childhood. This is why you're targeted by the senachel to take his place. The rest of the story is simply the senachel's method for recruiting and training you as their successor having become bored of living and their position as omnipotent god of the humans, which you learn is the endless cycle of the arisen.
@@XxKidnoffxX For me it's certainly not the only issue with this game. My issue is outside of combat this game doesn't really do anything well, except that it's polished and functional.
Jonathan Deville especially if you tackle Bitterblack on your first playthrough on Hard Mode. I don’t even bother with NG+ as Hard Mode with all your endgame gear isn’t difficult.
Blockheadfun it is kind of fun being level 200 with the bitterblack special gear and just laying waste to enemies. But the effort you need to actually put into getting all of that makes it hard to make the decision to hit new game and delete it and re experience struggle. I’m currently torn between all the hours I put into my current character and the desire to return to a point where things were difficult. At the moment I basically pick gear for the aesthetic alone and kind of wish I could bring some with me for a new game Best option I think is have new game+ if you get to a certain level unlock a new game minus And new game minus you keep equipment but not levels or abilities On top of having extra save files for brand new characters
Mostly better framerate (60fps) and better controls with bows and some spells. It also looks better and has less pop-in than the PS3 version. I do own both but if you are short on cash then I don't think the difference is THAT great. But if you do have the money then by all means go for it. Humblebundle has the game on sale now.
Dark arisen also improved the fast travel immensely. The ferry stones only cost 2000 instead of 20000, and you get a whole lot more of the port crystals for use as well
No game has delivered on the fantasy of being an all powerful wizard like Dragon's Dogma did, at least to my knowledge. All the spells function uniquely, have situational uses, and offer a genuinely grand spectacle when the bigger spells are pulled off. Add this to how expansive and alive the world map is, how the colossal bosses function and feel, the clever story/lore, and you get a damn good game. 10/10, would mage again. PS: NO, fuck you Joe. The fast travel system in Dogma is perfect as it is, contributing scope and substance to the game's world. Every trek or quest feels like an *ACTUAL* fucking journey, conveying a sense of satisfaction and gravitas. Dogma's fast travel becomes more easily accessible as you progress in various ways within the game, lowing the cost of entry so as to open the world *naturally* in a more earned fashion. You feel good for EARNING your own convenience. This is a significant reason why Dark Souls 2's level design was received so poorly, widely regarded as utter trash in comparison to Dark Souls 1. It was designed such that simply _giving_ players instant access to the world was necessary, resulting in a lack luster, cheap, uninspired environment. It hurt the end product in meaningful, observable ways. Stop demanding we cater to casuals in every fucking game. It's a toxic practice, one that should be avoided in most cases. Just, stop.
Akio Which one? They are _slightly_ in Dark Souls 2, but not really given how easy spells are to dodge plus the stat investments they require, usually leaving mage builds with low health AND incapable of using decent armor. If any build is overpowered, it's the hybrids, but only at ludicrously high levels, at which point it barely matters. Though I will say magic seems to play a much larger role in DkS 2 than previous Souls games.
Just ordered Dark Arisen, yeah about time I got this right? XD Wasn't sure or not, I loved Demons Souls and Dark Souls, Dark souls 2 was Okay. How long you think the main story is on average if you don't mind me asking? And I'ma run a Warrior 1st time through :)
ChadTheStud I really hope you're attempting to be ironic with that insult pulled straight out of the 1970's while using what appears to be an aborted albino fetus pretending to be "gangsta" as an avatar. Nobody is this oblivious, so I'll just assume you're trying to be funny. *Ahem *... 'Good one'
Deathx Kinslayer A solid 30-40 hours for a first playthrough, if you plan on playing it naturally and not rush it. Though it's been a while and I haven't played Dark Arisen yet, so I can't be sure, might be longer.
I've got to disagree Joe. I found Dragon's Dogma's story to be very interesting. You play as Savan during the prologue who goes on to defeat the Dragon and eventually the Seneschal; thereby, taking his place serving as the lynch-pin of the world. Savan serves in this capacity for an indeterminate period of time until he tires of the responsibility. Weary, he sends the Dragon into the world to search for a being with a Will strong enough to take his place. The Dragon causes mass devastation to provoke strong-willed beings. Once the Dragon finds such a being, it steals their heart turning them into Arisen. Arisen are drawn to the Dragon, all but guaranteeing a final confrontation. At the final confrontation, the Dragon offers a test. "Fight me or sacrifice your love to gain a wish." Those whose Will falters are granted their wish, but live a life of regret. If the sacrifice is refused, the Dragon and Arisen fight to the death. If the Arisen emerges victorious, the Dragon offers a final cryptic statement; however, if the Arisen falls, they are destroyed and the Dragon searches on. All hearts taken by the Dragon are restored to their respective owners who then rapidly age in accordance with how long their heart was missing. This is why the Dragonforged (who I believe to be one of the first Arisen of the current cycle) aged to dust. The previous Arisen (who made the deal) ages the fifty years his heart was missing. The Dragons death triggers a series of events designed to force the Arisen into "this world's utmost depths," the Everfall. The Everfall serves as yet another test as well as a forge to temper the Arisen. Arisen that possess enough strength and will, gather the keys (20 wakestones) and punch a hole through to the spiritual realm. There the Arisen finds the Seneschal waiting for them. The Seneschal tests the Arisen. If the Arisen is found wanting, the Seneschal strikes them down and molds them into the next Dragon to continue the search. If; however, the Arisen adequately proves them self, the Seneschal will present them with the Godsbane blade pulled from his very own Godly essence. Once the blade is presented, he begs the Arisen to grant him Rest and to take his place. The Arisen grants that request and assumes the position of Seneschal. After an indeterminate time, the Arisen realized that the Cycle and the position of Seneschal is nothing, but a cage. Determined to shatter that cage and give the people true freedom, the Arisen turns the Godsbane blade on them self. With the Seneschal dead, the Throne sits empty, the Cycle irrevocably shattered. This last part being my interpretation: Since the Seneschal's power requires a mind to guide it and that position now lies empty, the Power is dispersed among all living people and they become the "engine of the world."
His point still stands because DD’s story is one that can’t be appreciated until you finally beat the game. So in terms of being motivated via the story he’s not wrong
You skipping straight to the explanation near the end of the game proves Joe's point. The overall lore is great, but the plot and the way it's presented doesn't give a lot of hooks for people to latch on to until the end. They introduce many characters but their development is spread thin. They never give you bits and pieces of the plot until the very end when everything is explained. It's true that the game *does* hand out clues but you never know they're clues until you have prior knowledge to the end.
The storyline is like a 7th grader wrote it! Lol Coolest thing is Biterbach Dark Arisen with Death killing your fucking pawns. But the storyline itself is childish.
@Clever Witticism Because compared to something like Dragon Age Inquisition it's like something a 7th grader would come up with. First let's talk about the side quests which are mostly escorts of people you meet and take them here or there. Instead of giving you actual reasons to explore the map. Comes of as lazy writing. The main story of this mysterious clan called "Salvation" does even come out til the very end. No set up at all. Like here you go, it's the end of the game so here's some guy in a hood who you only see once prior in beginning. Next Orga or whatever her name is at Biterbach Island says she was his "Pawn and beloved as well". Yet in the game you cannot make a Pawn your beloved as you can't give them the item to claim them as your beloved. Don't get me wrong I love Dragon Dogma as it's fun combat and interesting skills weapons armor and beasts. But the storyline wasn't much there. Characters you meet were not interesting. And the Pawn system was like trading cards of this slave class. Made me upset and put off by it.
@@JamesRedBeard Director and team that worked on DD finished DMC 5 already, so maybe they'll revisit it. Although, I could see them working on something totally brand new as well. I'ma put this out there, but I have a feeling that if any other team at Capcom tried to make a DD sequel, it would end up disastrous like a Fallout 76.
I played Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen *for free in PS+* and I must say that it deserves Joe's Badass Seal of Approval. I spent a lot of time with it dragons and other boss battles are really cool specially when they fight each other. Like Cursed Dragon fighting Gorecyclops holy shit that was awesome to watch! Ur-Dragon or DEATH... The BEST Death I saw in a game. Once I knew how to fight it it was easier but at the beginning it was quite scary. Once I killed it I got like 6 lvls from something like 115 to 121 or higher (don't remember now) and it was soo rewarding. Even though I wasn't able to record at that time I was able to make shitload of col screens. Awesome game inho
I agree. Dark Arisen fixed most, if not all, of the problems that Joe listed, and it is super fun because of it! I'd say that Joe would give Dark Arisen a 9/10, or even a 10/10 if he reviewed it.
JustAnOrdinaryGamer So I played and beat the original DD on the 360. Can I install Dark Arisen or do I actually have to repurchase the game and do it over? Is there a save game transfer feature like in Mass Effect? Does it count as its own separate game on your gamercard?
***** Um.. I got the PS+ version of it for free. But yeah dark arisen is crazy and i think it's worth the purchase personally. Love the final boss with a passion
now i think these are 2 COMPLETELY different uncomparable games, but i could say they both have very many ups and downs each on their own,now Dragons Dogma is MUCH easier to play without mods,so i give it a huge plus for that.
Jalast Nightingale I didn't find much challenge in vanilla Skyrim. While Dragons Dogma made me feel tough for a couple of times in the very start. Anyways, due to retarded spawn system in DG, the general game experience in Skyrim really is way better and more enjoyable. Grinding my way through tons of mobs in DG really made me feel sick.
I play both games, i play ultra modded skyrim for years wich is on another dimension, graphics, npcs, story, crafting, character development. Dragon's Dogma is just good on killing stuff, very good, and some skill mechanics, the combat is more like an action game wich i like too, but outside off killing stuff, skyrim is bastly superior.
I wish there were more games like this on the AAA level. It’s imperfect and positively frustrating at times, but it’s so unique and excels in several ways that I can’t help but love it. Also wolves hunt in packs.
+True Gamer Q There needs to be a horse in this game. It would fit so well. I don't think fast travel between cities and port crystals should be free though. I can't tell if I'm climitized to it, or if I just don't mind it because I can't think of a reason to keep it the same. Hmm...
?? I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Port crystals are permanent and with the PC version, you get an eternal ferrystone that can be used for no cost. They have you walk to a destination first to experience the trip there, and you get so many port crystals you can place them in the important places and cut down travelling times so significantly that these problems don't matter anymore. I think I have about 20 port crystals placed around my map and I'm only level 80 on my current playthrough. Honestly, I really don't understand how people have trouble with the fast travelling system that they've given us. It sounds like you guys want to fast travel to every location, similar to Skyrim or Oblivion, and I think that takes away from the experience entirely.
No, holding it that way gets the part of the disc that is read dirty (The magnetic disc). Especially if you've been eating before. Index finger in the middle of the disk and the thumb on the outside of the disk. That is the correct way to hold a disc.
Discs are even more sensitive now my ds3 disc looks fine put doesn't work and I take care of my shit pretty well and it pisses me off bc its my only disc that doesn't work and it's my favorite game
I realize this is a few years late, but there was an infinite ferry crystal that I found in the Gran Soren inn. You ask the innkeeper to check your inventories and it’s just sitting there. This is in dark arisen, so maybe they patched that in, but it might be in the original game.
***** It's Capcom. They're basically Japan's EA, and get a real kick out of treating customers like shit. If you don't live in Japan, expect the next game in your favourite franchise, which has been doing well where you live, to see a Japan only release. Because trolololol.
Just picked up the ps4 version. Worth it and doesn't come with loot boxes or micro transactions like new 2017/18 games these days. Oh and the new version has a voice chatter option. Much needed
THIS, the first time I made the "journey" to Bluemoon Tower to kill the Griffin was one of the most epic moments I had in my gaming life ever, it was more than 4 years ago and I still remember many notable moments like it was yesterday. It wasn't a flaw, it was one feature every good rpg should have at least for the first part of the game to really make you immerse your self in the game, AngryJoe just doesn't know how to enjoy a good rpg. It's not hard to understand why many people that play Skyrim disable with mods (Frostfall anyone?) or just don't use the fast travel system of the game, it breaks the immersion. When he said that the biggest flaw was its story and said about how the mc survived after the Dragon ripped his heart, I was like wtf is he saying, he really didn't pay ANY attention at all at the story, they literally explain what happened and how/why he survived, and the game really has a great story that is part of an even greater world and lore. So what we get is all the good parts like Joe said plus the "flaws" the aren't really flaws but additional strengths of the game, it is almost perfect and one of the best RPGs ever made.
Wish there was a dragons dogma 2, this game was great in alot of ways especially when they released dark arisen, went through bitterblack so many times to get all the gear for me and my pawns and made it to the 200 level, its got alot of things right and beating the game isnt the end where you have literary nothing to do like dragon age inquistion was, beat that game and all its side quests and whatever, but theres nothing to do unless you just replay from the beginning and choose different decisions, this you just get to keep playing and keep getting to level up yourself and main pawn , skills, weapons/armor and just keep on going til you just get burnt out, i really hope we see another of this game or something really similiar to its style.
oh cheers, yeah weird cause im subscribed to them and a lot of others I must of missed it, thatll be heaps good if it had a release sometime next year!
from what i last heard, teleports are cheaper or in general improved, the annoying pawns chatting thing he talks about and some other stuff off his "flaws" he talks about, Also 4k and unlocked framerate is what i personaly look at as the biggest + , for me that was the most annoying thing in the game when i played it on the PS3 back in the day i prolly had 200+ hours in the game but 99% of them i was dying abit inside wile i played it cuz the game was sub 30 almost at all times. And for my computer i will be able to run 4k and 144fps for sure if the game works as it should i think. =D
+Aluzard I think its 60fps cap like some console ports. I haven't seen any console first, PC port later go over 60fps. but still that's MUCH better than 30fps most Dev's give us (like tales of zestiria, dark souls1).
@@dankusmemeus7093 Depends on the games you're buying. Luckily I play primarily roleplaying games and there's yet to be one released I'm played that is incomplete on launch. Ironically even Ubisoft's first attempt at an RPG, Assassin's creed Odyssey shipped complete. It's two expansions are totally unrelated stories that weren't hacked out of the main game. If you're having that problem it's probably a lot to do with what you're choosing to buy. If you're buying into live services then what you're getting is in the name. Your 60 dollars is an entry fee.
I found this game more enjoyable than Skyrim. At least its main quest was a lot of fun, felt natural (not so much on rails) and didn't feel anticlimactic, and the RPG mechanics were pretty deep. The attacks also looked great, they were really epic. I didn't find its color scheme dull at all; it's brownish sometimes, sure, but it's supposed to look warm, as though the game has its own warm climate. Many games look bluish or greenish - but this game looks pretty realistic when it comes to color temperature. Its nights are also frickin pitch black, not grey or blue. You can actually get disoriented, and the third person (which is very precise) makes the customization much more rewarding, because you can actually see your character and his/her weapon. Attacks and spells seem more punchy because of the third person, if you ask me. RPGs should be third person. And yeah, the presentation was amazing. The in-game music, the acting, the graphics, it was all amazing. It just shows how soundtracks and graphics can make games so much more atmospheric, and better overall. Western developers can learn a lot from Japanese developers. If this game had proper fast-travel and randomly spawning enemies, or maybe even random boss fights, this game would be a 9/10 for me, only being held back by its side quests, which are mainly fetch/kill quests.
aw man when you go through that underworld portal shit that is by far the most aggravating mission its like going through the different levels of hell i swear i never want to play that part again ._.
Dragons dogma is a game that I constantly lose myself in. I'll just be walking towards my next quest, take one look to the left, "holy shit. is that a castle full of bandits? A dragon? A wierdass flying magic rock surrounded by goblins?" Not even skyrim was able to do it this well.
Precisely..😂 this game is Skyrim on Meth. It's addictive leveling up ur vocations, unlocking skills, weapons, Dragon armors and upgrading them to gold in Bitterblack Isle.
I see a wyvern, drake, or dragon in Dark Arisen I’m filled with anticipation as I prepare for combat. In Skyrim they bug the fuck outta me. Once that music starts I’m like. “Fucking hell this again? Go away you flying fuck nut I just killed one of you cunts not five minutes ago!”
2019 year end review: Dragon’s Dogma has changed dramatically for the past few years with a dlc called Dark Arisen. The flaws that made it a controversial game is now fixed giving you 5 port crystals (teleporting places) where you can drop anywhere in the map to fast travel to PLUS the placed Portcrystals in Gran Soren and Cassardis. The stamina is still a problem although there are augment skills in the game wherein you can have less stamina drain for running. I played this game for hundreds of hours and I never really had a problem in the main game. If it was released as it was today it could’ve been the game of the year and be legendary. It’s a good rpg with mind-boggling character skills especially if you are a Sorcerer or Magickal Archer. The graphics of Dark Arisen is beautiful but not that top notch though as expected from an old but still excellent game. It is easily the best game for me. HOWEVER when your Arisen reaches the Bitterblack Isle beware for GRINDING FOR HOURS. The best equipment in the game is locked behind rng chests and my god the hours I spent farming the last boss with a bow that does about .40 of its health is hard. The game suddenly turns into dark souls when you enter that Island. It’ll kill you over and over again until you love it. Be sure to enter the island at least at level 50 I entered that island at level 41 and everything 1 shoted me. Now I’m a level 200 Assassin and I started a new play through in ps4 as a Magickal Archer and I still never get tired of the game. My pawn is a warrior, Serana and my character name is Arya (Magick Archer) if anyone wants to borrow her. I shall await you in the crucible of souls.
'released as it is today it would be game of the year'. Ehh I can't remember any games I cared about in 2012 but I don't see Dragon's Dogma Dark arisen fairing any better against Borderlands 2, Far cry 3 and Dishonored (I like Dishonored.) These games are very well polished with almost no serious mistakes, their biggest flaws being that they're not 'more' than they are. Dragon's dogma isn't a good RPG at all. I like the game and it is a good game but not a good roleplaying game. Dark arisen has average graphics for a 2008-2012 RPG even in it's enhanced version.
I would love to see a Dragon's Dogma sequel. Personally, if they added horses or some fast-travel system other than the ferrystones and portcrystals and made the story more engaging, I think they could have a real winner on their hands. That, and proper multiplayer. Not tacked-on competitive multiplayer either, but a drop-in, drop-out style of cooperative multiplayer similar to that of Borderlands. I would much rather play with my friends than play with their A.I.-controlled pawns. I think the one thing I disagree with in this video, though, would have to be the complaint about having only one save file. I think it's completely in keeping with how unforgiving the game is. It kind of reminded me of how L.A. Noire only had one save file. I think having only one save file immerses you in the experience and forces you to carefully mull over the full repercussions of any decisions you make because you can't just reload an earlier save file if it didn't turn out how you wanted it to.
All of the "Bad" points he brings up are actually pretty fucking terrible. Having no fast travel forces you to actually enjoy the scenery, of which after you go to a place in Skyrim it's like WHELP NO MORE SCENERY ROUTES FOR ME which HIGHLY cuts down game time. Also, you need those respawn mobs to level up, or don't really, but you can easily run past them. EVERY game has the same spawn spots for mobs. Hell even MMO's have them. And he bitches about the pawns talking and saying the same things. yeah, and? At least they talk and have audio queue's. Skyrim is pretty much the same thing with the repetitive comments from partners. It's difficult in it's own right. Not a steam roll game until you get the hang of it. Not to mention, in the Original, NOT DDDA, I had plenty of ferrystones to move around. It's just blatant bitching to bitch here.
I agree with you. It sounds like he didn't actually finish the game; the story is very back loaded. When you get to the later part of the game, the story gets very weird.
Andrew Markus If you're talking to me, I did understand Wesley's point I just added some additional information. Around 9:10 Angry Joe starts talking about the story line, that's why I mentioned that it sounded like he didn't finish the game. He never mentioned the story being back loaded or that "the final battle" wasn't really the final battle.
It's been 10 years and nobody has followed Dragon's Dogma's example... Looks like Capcom is going to have to do it themselves with a Dragons Dogma 2!!!
I think it's better than skyrim and dragon age. Get at me. But i love this game as equally as the Witcher 3. The Witcher 3 has great story but kind of a jank combat system like most RPG's, but Dragon's Dogma has a bad story but great combat system, unlike most..
+Hannirc What I want to see from Dragon's Dogma II: fast travel, focused story in the narrative part, stylished character design towards iconic Capcom standards, running on UE4 for better environments and bring some new ideas to the battle system but keep the winning formula. And of course, a more epic OST in the vein of Dragon's Dogma Online. I think Capcom is now working on Monster Hunter 5 and Dragon's Dogma II at business division 2 as far as I have heard. Capcom make an commitment last year after DDO release to expand the Dragon's Dogma franchise like they have done with Monster Hunter. It could probably had to do with UE4. According to Epic Games Japan Capcom is using UE4 for several unannounced titles (DMC5? Onimusha? MHFO2? RE2 Remake? RE7? MH5? DDII?)
+H.Brandt Eh? There was always fast travel in Dragon's Dogma... you just had to unlock it. With the PC now it's even easier to fast travel but imo in the past it was never a problem. I believe I had 7 port crystals placed all over Gransys, and a stockpile of ferrystones. Each one cost 20,000 which is expensive early game but by the time you reach lvl 100 you can make 700,000 in a matter of minutes. >_>
Kid Adult Going from their Capcom channel on youtube which is catering to the fans in Japan. And the committment from Capcom's boss Haruhiro Tsujimoto they are going to invest in in-house developments and move away from outsourcing and western influence. I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom take a more Japanese direction with Dragon's Dogma II and have a more stylished character design that will turn some off outside of Japan/Asia. I would be a bit worried for those who doesn't like that after what SCEJ's president Atsushi Morita who is a part of the close relationship with third parties and deals like Dragon Quest XI said they are approaching (Japanese) devevelopers (outside of first party) to offer a uniquely Japanese experience for the worldwide market.
If you want to buy Dragons Dogma, get the Dark Arisen version. I havent played the original, but most of Joe's problem have been fixed in the new version.
Yeah, anything that comes in a download or transferred is sent to your storage instead of your inventory. You should get all the content that came with Dark Arisen from it as well.
I think TW3's world isn't very good. I think Dragon's dogma has a dramatically better world which I also don't find very good. I think TW3 has pretty average quest design, the writing is good but the quests are monotonous and most of the side quests aren't very substantial.
@@7dayspking simply put no, TW3 Side quest were really well done, like the prizefighting quest, maiden quest, even the monster hunting quest were all expertly written and woven into the systems present in the game. And the witcher 3 has some of the best world building in any game period, a bit lower than bioshock. The witcher 3 certainly has problems but its quest and world aren't it. Its the floaty animations and the insanely easy combat (even on death march)
@@7dayspking I personally prefer TW3 side quests. Dragon's dogma has wayyy too many escort missions for my liking. I understand it's to further bond with that NPC but they often stopped out of nowhere and got themselves into danger to the point it became pretty annoying.
@@can_can9119 I agree TW3 has better side quests than Dragon's Dogma, just that TW3's are also pretty average. Although not everything about TW3's side quests are better than Dogma's. It is in Dragon's Dogma's favour that as your said they focus many of the quests on characters you can come to care about or interested to see where they lead.
I actually walked through the entire game of oblivion and Skyrim in order to make it more realistic and in real time lol. I must be the only crazy one to do it lol
Joe was so lean, clean and slim, why do we get old?😢 In that aging process sometimes we gain weight and our faces swell as if they were stung by a thousand bees!😭
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen contains the original game plus tons of improvements and a massive expansion, it also fixes most of Angry Joe's main gripes with the original game (lack of fast travel system, expensive ferry stone system, static enemy spawning, repetitive pawn AI voices, etc.) You still only get one save file though which sucks.
I agree with your comment, but I personally see no problem with one save. I think that since your pawn is meant to go online, you can't keep switching back and forth in the story and level progression.
Dark Arisen did fix a lot of the issues, thankfully. The story in the DLC was an improvement, and the graphics looked a bit better to me. The lip synching didn't seem too bad either. I also managed to get my hands on a ton of port crystals which I put at every important location, allowing me to finish those overly long escort missions with ease (they could be somewhat fun to do, but they were held back by small rewards and retarded AI for the NPC being escorted.) I'm surprised Joe didn't mention the old issues with the romance...thing. He must've not gotten unlucky like 90% of the people who played the original, and wasn't forced to watch his Arisen get intimate with Absalam the transdimensional pimp. They changed the title song for Dark Arisen to something that makes me think of Dragon Age Origins. They didn't fix the pawns overuse of dialogue, but after I had to teach myself to ignore spoken dialogue whilst playing Star Ocean: The Last Hope, I found the pawns nowhere near as annoying. I actually got quite fond of my primary pawn, she saved my ass quite a few times, and didn't seem to talk as much as the others. Except for that one time a dragon possessed her and she royally kicked my ass.
Oh boy! At first I hated it...after a week I sang along. No matter, it's gone in Dark Arisen, though I wish I could still listen to it from time to time.
Im playing the game at the moment and i dont mind the long walks at all. The atmosphere is so unique and this world is just so fascinating. It feels so dope to wander through forests or wide plains for a long time and then it gets dark but you cant turn back because youre already sp far so you light your lantern and fight for your life. Or when youre standing on a cliff and you hear ravens and you just let it all sink in. I LOVE it!
That point about the lantern is so true though, you do have to keep pressing on even when it gets dark and that can be a struggle. Quite realistic, too, you actually experience the trials and tribulations of traveling warriors
The game's sidequests actually imply an overarching subplot. If you do most of then, you can glue the pieces together. It's really interesting (but could have been better though). You are basically just a part of a repeting cycle (much like Dark Souls) as seen with the whole ''becoming god'' thing after the dragon bossfight
Yeah, I agree. I actually found the story very interesting, but almost all of it was piled on at the end. I wish they found a way to disperse it throughout the game better and get in more engaged with it. It is fascinating, but it is sparse in until the end of the game which makes it feel more empty and stupid than it really is. Spacing it out more and letting the player interact with it more would make it a pretty damn good story, but the potential was wasted here. Fortunately the combat was so great I was willing to overlook that... a little...
ronaldreaganissatan wow, that's like literally the best part of the game. I mean, it's subjective, but that was the reason why so many played the game longer than they should have.
ronaldreaganissatan The marrying the princess isn't really part of the story. The game has a shit type romance system and the very last person you romanced will show up in the final boss segment. You did the princess side quest which automatically makes her your romance #1. It's a dumb system but it's funny because you could romance anyone, like the jester... The King was the last Arisen and he chose to sacrifice his romance for fame and glory while we chose to fight. The king starts dying because the dragon dead and he thinks you're also a traitor. It's a badly explained story yes. The post game world was rely the highlight of the game. It was hard and had more bosses in the open. From dragon's to hydras to cocktrices. The true ending is what you think. The pawn becomes us and the cycle continues
4 years later and no one has learned from DD's awesome battle system and boss fights. >_>
DD learned from shadow of the colossus.
Dev 1 "Hey guys think we should work on the decades old melee combat system?"
Dev 2 "Nah man, no time.
And the boss battles in this game look pretty incredible.
combat was basically shadow of colossus, I had no issue with ES combat system I enjoyed it, I don't need realism in fantasy game.

I can tell it sounds unrealistic.

But did they add mounts ?
The Eternal ferry stone is for buying Dark Arison while owning the original game. If you buy The Disc of Dark Arison, you still need to find other ferrystones.

The pawns inform you of what's around to make sure you lvl up and no to miss things. Plus this game makes you want the fast travel

Agreed! Why couldn't Skyrim and DA: Inquisition have dragon battles this tactile? This is how you do it!
Or Witcher 3.
Witcher 3's combat is probably the second best I've played in an RPG though, only second to Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen.
John Thomas
lots of things.

@@personalnormal5935 On consoles like switch you can quickly create alternative profiles for new characters.

At the moment I basically pick gear for the aesthetic alone and kind of wish I could bring some with me for a new game
Best option I think is have new game+ if you get to a certain level unlock a new game minus
And new game minus you keep equipment but not levels or abilities
On top of having extra save files for brand new characters
@@Blockheadfun if you Ng+ bitter black, something fun happens.
dark arisen on pc is another fucking dimension, so good
Honestly just the PC version of dark arisen could have its own review
what's the difference? I might wanna get it but I already have the ps3 version
The ferry stones only cost 2000 instead of 20000, and you get a whole lot more of the port crystals for use as well
Not to mention the free one in your item storage that has unlimited uses
Just, stop.
mages are overpowered in dark souls
*Ahem *... 'Good one'
Deathx Kinslayer
A solid 30-40 hours for a first playthrough, if you plan on playing it naturally and not rush it.
@@ronjones9185
Why? You say it's childish; what makes it childish?
2018 and still no dragons dogma 2 :C
But they're working in the right direction. First one is being released on the switch in April
@Psyfi Panda what info you've got?
There are whispers about it in the gaming community but it’s 2019 so it’ll be a couple more years most likely

***** You can buy it as DLC, but i believe capcom wants to make you pay fullprice for the game+Original DD.
ernjdasdd Is it even worth the purchase then?
***** Um.. I got the PS+ version of it for free. But yeah dark arisen is crazy and i think it's worth the purchase personally. Love the final boss with a passion

In many aspects this game is really better than Skyrim. Pawns are more human-like than actual vanilla human followers in Skyrim.
now i think these are 2 COMPLETELY different uncomparable games, but i could say they both have very many ups and downs each on their own,now Dragons Dogma is MUCH easier to play without mods,so i give it a huge plus for that.
Jalast Nightingale I didn't find much challenge in vanilla Skyrim. While Dragons Dogma made me feel tough for a couple of times in the very start. Anyways, due to retarded spawn system in DG, the general game experience in Skyrim really is way better and more enjoyable. Grinding my way through tons of mobs in DG really made me feel sick.
yea good point
I agree with the grinding point you made about Dogma.
I play both games, i play ultra modded skyrim for years wich is on another dimension, graphics, npcs, story, crafting, character development. Dragon's Dogma is just good on killing stuff, very good, and some skill mechanics, the combat is more like an action game wich i like too, but outside off killing stuff, skyrim is bastly superior.
dark arisen would get at least a 8.5 nowadays from joe i feel
I wish there were more games like this on the AAA level. It’s imperfect and positively frustrating at times, but it’s so unique and excels in several ways that I can’t help but love it.
Also wolves hunt in packs.
The fast traveling thing has been fixed. The crystals are now only like 1000 gold and there are eternal port crystals that don't disappear after use
True Gamer Q I would really like horses too. Im not a huge fan of the fast traveling either, but its not the worst thing in the world
+True Gamer Q There needs to be a horse in this game.

I realize this is a few years late, but there was an infinite ferry crystal that I found in the Gran Soren inn. You ask the innkeeper to check your inventories and it’s just sitting there. This is in dark arisen, so maybe they patched that in, but it might be in the original game.

@@brettpardue8786 Bought it on Steam on release day... and I fully regret it. :(
I enjoyed the no fast travel. It made every trip really feel like it's own journey. Very Lord-of-the-Rings-esque
Yes but they at least should add some mounts
OnigoroshiZero no, it's a flaw. it just gets boring.
OnigoroshiZero oh, and the enemies all in the same places. going somewhere is fun the first time, but the trip back is, well, not fun.
@@intensellylit4100 yes it is fun plus if you don't like it use the in game fast travel mechanic.
Capcom just started to tease about dragon's dogma 2 / Devil May Cry. God I'm hype!!

I am so excited for this. I've been thinking what are the new vocations and move set they added for the sequel.
Joe.. Remake a review for PC version cuz they have fixed alot of stuff from the old console version thats in/out of the PC version.
+Aluzard What have they changed? I'm quite curious. Might preorder if there's enough changed :P
from what i last heard, teleports are cheaper or in general improved, the annoying pawns chatting thing he talks about and some other stuff off his "flaws" he talks about, Also 4k and unlocked framerate is what i personaly look at as the biggest + , for me that was the most annoying thing in the game when i played it on the PS3 back in the day i prolly had 200+ hours in the game but 99% of them i was dying abit inside wile i played it cuz the game was sub 30 almost at all times. And for my computer i will be able to run 4k and 144fps for sure if the game works as it should i think. =D
Also i want to add for thoes that thinking about buying the game, you can preload on stream allready ^^
+Aluzard I think its 60fps cap like some console ports. I haven't seen any console first, PC port later go over 60fps. but still that's MUCH better than 30fps most Dev's give us (like tales of zestiria, dark souls1).
150fps is max for the game they said on there QA on Steam.
$59.99...those were the days
Me in 2012 looking back at 2006: $49.99...those were the days
Not far from the truth. If you want the full game you usually end up paying around $120-$160 these days
Me in 2002 to 2005 29.99 or 39.99 for a new game those were the days
@@dankusmemeus7093 Depends on the games you're buying. Luckily I play primarily roleplaying games and there's yet to be one released I'm played that is incomplete on launch.
Ironically even Ubisoft's first attempt at an RPG, Assassin's creed Odyssey shipped complete. It's two expansions are totally unrelated stories that weren't hacked out of the main game.
If you're having that problem it's probably a lot to do with what you're choosing to buy. If you're buying into live services then what you're getting is in the name. Your 60 dollars is an entry fee.

ur dad yep. Because the liscence to use those outfits had expired by the time they made the PC ports. They're still in the console versions though.
9 years later, all roads still leads to Grand Soren

Dragons dogma is a game that I constantly lose myself in. I'll just be walking towards my next quest, take one look to the left, "holy shit. is that a castle full of bandits? A dragon? A wierdass flying magic rock surrounded by goblins?"

I lost 2000 hours to Skyrim... kinda scared how many hours i'm going to play Dragon's Dogma lol
This game has potential, it could easily be a 10/10 if they fixed some of the issues
2019 year end review:
Dragon’s Dogma has changed dramatically for the past few years with a dlc called Dark Arisen.
I shall await you in the crucible of souls.
hope for part 2
Havent played this for a few years gonna pick it back up again cause I haven't played dark arisen thanks for the info I'll he lookin for you pawn
Capcom is broke. Merry Christmas!

Buddy, relax. It was just a simple troll attempt. Why so serious?
*****
Ah, fair enough. I'm surprised you came clean about it. Most would just take the win or keep pressing the advantage.
You didn't even get the point, you just jumped in the bandwagon.
SwingDancer61 No I was talking to the main guy. If I wanted to reply to you, I would have mentioned you like I did now.
Andrew Markus That's okay, it gave me a chance to provide more information about why I was disagreeing with Angry Joe.
Who watching this after getting the ps4 version?
King Deathroy Me ❤❤
you know it dude
King Deathroy hell yeah
I just played through for the first time. Pretty dope.
Have they fixed fast travel?
+Kid Adult With the PC version you also have the eternal ferrystone. It's in your storage after you reach gran soren. Just a tip =P.
I love all those games but pls don't compare skyrim till elder scrolls 6 because skyrim pretty old
Kid Adult Going from their Capcom channel on youtube which is catering to the fans in Japan.
Four years later and still waiting for a sequel
Clark Wayne me too :(. They said they were gonna make it eventually
They are working on it, I believe
As for the fast travel... Use the portcrystals! They are annoying to keep around but they make travel so much better so it's not too bad!!!
"pray we see more of this in the future" Greetings from 2019 :(
If you want to buy Dragons Dogma, get the Dark Arisen version. I havent played the original, but most of Joe's problem have been fixed in the new version.
Just don't sell the eternal ferrystone. I caught myself right before I would. Saved my controller and my foot for another day.
Malik Evans I never got the eternal one. Where can I get it?
Peter Green Check your storage at the inn, you should have it.
Yeah, anything that comes in a download or transferred is sent to your storage instead of your inventory. You should get all the content that came with Dark Arisen from it as well.
Kay, thanks! I should actually search it before acting like a goof on the internet. :P
Who just started playing in 2022 and can't wait to play the second one
Meeeeee! 👏😀
Started playing in 2019. Fantastic game
Witcher 3's world, story and quests with Dragon's Dogma's combat would be the greatest RPG of all time.
Yes 😲🤤👍
AngryJoe: their is NO FAST TRAVEL!
me: *Laughs in Eternal Ferrystone*
Ferrystones aren't that hard to get anyway. I made so much money I could buy as many Ferrystones that I needed!
Tis' a troubling foe!
I actually walked through the entire game of oblivion and Skyrim in order to make it more realistic and in real time lol. I must be the only crazy one to do it lol
Kevin W. Clark hahaa you chad you
Yea I did a no fast travel run of them will dagger fall unity you can run between cities I wanna do it with that game
Joe was so lean, clean and slim, why do we get old?😢
In that aging process sometimes we gain weight and our faces swell as if they were stung by a thousand bees!😭
Thats life for you.
@@kelvinsantiago7061 Thats life not for you, you're an anime Carmen Santiago!
@@kelvinsantiago7061 Thats life not for you, you're an anime Carmen Sandiego!
8 years later, I'm hearing stuff about a Dragon's Dogma 2 and it's now getting its own anime.
THE WIND IS PUSHING ME!
Did you fly away?
INTO THE CLOUDS AGAIN
I FEEL THE BLOOD IN MY VEINS
If Dragon's Dogma 2 doesn't have a cheesy J-Rock song, it's not Dragon's Dogma
Then I guess we'll have to give it a nickname...
2019.. still can't find a game that learned from this masterpiece's combat system.
Black Desert Online! Very similar combat
This game was awesome... My 3 favorite RPG's of the last few years are Skyrim, Dragon's Dogma and Kingdom's of Amalur
Dark Souls babe
Masterrulaxx Dark souls isn't a RPG...its an RFG
RPG bro JRPG learn your shit =3
Masterrulaxx bro learn your sh*t...

dark souls is a RFG...
RFG= Rage fest game
Ok ok you have yer point
Is it just me or does Joe's character look a lot like Freddie Mercury?
i was about to post that and see your comment XD
AJ could be talking about Dragon's Dogma 2 here...
Nah. He would've been angrier than he is here...
2019 and Dragon's Dogma is still one of my favorites. I really hope there's a sequel on the way, Capcom.
Well congratulations.
Holy shit is that seriously the main menu music...why?
Get the Dark Arisen version if you want to play this game. Besides all the general improvements, that song is gone.
My cock is most definitely not rocked.
I thought the exact same thing the first time I played this game. I was like wth is this? This sounds like it should be in a SONIC game!
Oh boy! At first I hated it...after a week I sang along. No matter, it's gone in Dark Arisen, though I wish I could still listen to it from time to time.
BECAUSE JAPAN because japan
Im playing the game at the moment and i dont mind the long walks at all. The atmosphere is so unique and this world is just so fascinating. It feels so dope to wander through forests or wide plains for a long time and then it gets dark but you cant turn back because youre already sp far so you light your lantern and fight for your life. Or when youre standing on a cliff and you hear ravens and you just let it all sink in. I LOVE it!
Have you played for at least 10 hours? Cuz it gets old eventually, I'm sorry to say
That point about the lantern is so true though, you do have to keep pressing on even when it gets dark and that can be a struggle. Quite realistic, too, you actually experience the trials and tribulations of traveling warriors
It gets really exhausting when your pawns will not shut the hell up
It’s uniquely boring backtracking through empty land while being attacked but the same exact enemies every time.
Kind of shame though right? The story was just an excuse to play the game and then the end makes this crazy twist.
I mean, it's subjective, but that was the reason why so many played the game longer than they should have.
ronaldreaganissatan
How was the hole dungeon boring if the last Dragon (the one with many hearts) was hard as fuck? Was it easy for you?
ronaldreaganissatan The marrying the princess isn't really part of the story.
