  • On the above stated date and time I, TFC Dawson 584, was patrolling in a marked patrol vehicle
traveling northbound on I-75 near interstate I-285. I observed a silver Ford Focus conduct several lane
changes without signaling and following too closely. I caught up to the vehicle and paced its speed at
88 mph in a 55 mph zone. I also noticed the vehicle had a tinted tag cover, which made it difficult to
read. The driver conducted a right lane change in front of my vehicle without signaling. The driver then
conducted several more lane changes as he failed to maintain his lane.
I attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle as we approached I-285. The driver began to flee
as he conducted two lane changes to the left without signaling. The driver failed to maintain his lane
and conducted two lane changes to the right without signaling and nearly struck a vehicle. The driver
then conducted three lane changes to the left without signaling, fail to maintain lane, and traveled in the
H.O.V lane without a passenger. The driver then conducted two lane changes to the right without
signaling and reached speeds over 100 MPH in a desperate attempt to flee. The driver continued to
drive extremely reckless as we approached Cleveland Avenue, on I-75 north. The driver exited to
Georgia 166 and attempted an improper lane change at a high rate of speed, causing him to lose
control of his vehicle. The driver struck an embankment and overturned his vehicle.
I approached the vehicle with my patrol car and ordered the driver out of the vehicle with my duty
weapon displayed, but he did not respond. I waited to approach the vehicle when responding units
arrived and discovered that the driver was deceased due to fatal injuries referencing the crash.
The vehicle was removed by South Metro Towing.

Granted he was dead however the first rule is self preservation. What good could the troop do if he was shot and killed approaching the wreck alone. He didn’t know he was dead and could not respond. He had no idea if this guy was a mass murder, a serial killer, a gang banger, or a kid who took his moms car to joy ride in. You always approach with superior numbers.
