The audience was told to be quite and calm so this could be recorded for TV !! No playback, no auto tune, no bullshit dances, just pure voice-instruments greatness.... These and others of this Era were the creators of modern music...I'm glad you checked out the greatest hard rock band ever !! More DEEP PURPLE !!!
Tull were popular in 1970, but probably not ready musically to challenge the top bands. By 1971 Ian had managed Tull into a tight unit that was musically unmatched until Pink Floyd got it together. Even late 1969 Tull live had great ideas and brilliant songs / music..... but they were not skilled enough to give a tight , professional performance. BUT........in 1970 The Rolling Stones were brilliant, Led Zepplin were already killing audiences and blown away Tull in the Abby Road studios, Black Sabbath had made it , Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs were discovering blues and heavy rock in Australia and even America had first class rock bands...... even if not popular within corporate America . In 1970 , Deep Purple stood at the top, but the music industry was not yet ready..... only the older fans appreciated Deep Purple while the rest of us still listened to radio crap. lol
@Rassskle Deep Purple In Rock is considered a mile stone in rock and metal. One of the big 3. Also, 1973 was the biggest band in the world in gate receipts and lps sold. In 1984, the biggest band world again. 130 million LPS sold. Not bad for a band you don't think that are on the level of Floyd Stones Zeppelin. BTW they always beern Europe's band. I'm from the States and know that.
Loved your reaction! Deep Purple is one of the most important heavy rock bands in the world and very influential on the heavy rock and metal bands later on
One of the best bands at their best... I'm always so happy when I see people reacting to this song the same way I reacted to it so many years ago... enchanted, awed...
Yes, you’re right Rafael. I usually put more focus on song lyrics but this time, I got too carried away with the performance. It’s a great song musically and lyrically.
Purple Power... you're voyage has just begun. Next, if I may be so bold: Hush, Smoke on the Water and Lazy (STUDIO version.) Enjoy. Oh, BTW, your smile is infectious. 🎹🎹🎹 🎸🎸
What I like about 60s, 70s and 80s rock is that everything was done live by singers like Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Cass Elliott, Janis Joplin and especially in this video Ian Gillan as they are unforgettable voices.
Back in those days groups didn't stay together forever what a freaking shame. One of the first albums I ever got was deep purple Machine Head We lived in a great time for music it was wonderful1☮️☮️☮️
GREAT PERFORMANCE DEEP PURPLE RULES !!! The public was asked to stay very quiet in order to not dirsturb the sound recording, so they stayed like statues during the song, this made them look very rare, specially because of the energy of the music. This is DEEP PURPLE Mk 2, it means they are the second line-up of the band. Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) Ian Gillan (vocal) Roger Glover (bass) Jon Lord (keyboards) and Ian Paice (drums) Masters of Hard Rock. Please continue reacting to more Purple music, there is a big pack of great songs to listen to, like BURN, LAZY, SPACE TRUCKIN', SMOKE ON THE WATER, STRANGE KIND OF WOMAN and many more. Always find a live performance to react, because strange as it sounds, they are better on the stage than in the studio. Thank you for you reaction.
The simple answer to your question is they were in a studio and the audience could only reaction was at the end of the song. It wasn't a venue or a stadium that was live recording on TV. That's about all I know and I don't know where it was it could have been in Netherlands, Germany or England Love mum
Actually, they make PLENTY of music like this. But you probably have to be European to be aware of it. It's here that it continues to live, thrive and get revitalized by new generations of musicians and fans.
I am European and enjoy music from all ages and styles. Nowadays, good songs will less likely float to the surface and become classics because the masses have been imprinted with the format of 'the pop song'. E.g. a song with an intro of 1 minute or more is never going to be mainsteam anymore. It's like remembering the iconic cars, while modern cars outperform them they don't stand out like the classics.
You seen her reaction it was honest..who is this lady. She's awesome beautiful and felt Ian's voice in her sole. Purple..Glover is why I started playing bass in 69. Maid in Japan to this day is my favorite album of all time. I'm 61 seen Purple many times..I love this lady.
A masterpiece of rock history I recently had the pleasure of hearing Deep Purple live, and I still get goosebumps when they play their classic songs. There are few bands where the statement that music like this is no longer made today is so accurate.
Deep Purple singer Ian Gillian also played the role of Jesus in the first production of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s classic Rock Opera “Jesus Christ Superstar”
Hey there Empress, your comment is a common one. Why was the crowd so calm? For this genre, time and place, Ian Gillan is my favorite. Love your reaction.❤
Another great reaction to a masterpiece live performance. Ian Gillan was one of the most amazing singers but everybody in that band was incredible😮. But yeah, as far as the audiences go back then? Yeah of course people went nuts it's some of their live regular concerts but at that time people would still go on television shows which were quite conservative at the time and it was a studio audience since it was definitely live and in fact it's intimate and lots of interaction, I mean there isn't even a dance floor, the audience isn't really allowed to get out of their chairs and I think a lot of it back then was they were just mesmerized. They were hypnotized.
Try Woman From Tokyo studio version and live versions of Lazy and Strange Kind of Woman. I would suggest Live in Copenhagen 1972 for the visuals or Made in Japan for the better sound. I think you'll like it.
I just saw them a few days ago, that singer is STILL going at it at age 79. Of course he can't hit that A5 note any more, but he was still screaming pretty high.
In those days - when a teenager misbehaved or made too much noise - they would get evicted by security. Considering the millions of records sold in those days I can confirm to you that we loved this music even if we had to control ourselves. Well times have changed.
It was in Manchester & I believe they wanted it recorded without any crowd noise (band or managers decision, not sure). So the crowd was told to remain silent until the very end. And then after, as you can see they were allowed to applaud.
Trust me bands like this are almost impossible to find. I've been in the same band for 40 year's. Crooked Blind. Hard rock with a touch of southern..were dam good. We play because we love it. Not for money or fame. Are family's came first Absolutely love purple
The ultimate version of this anti-war song is from their album "Made in Japan," one of the best live albums of all time. And Ian Gillan could frigging SING! You should check out his work on the album "Jesus Christ Superstar." His version of "Gethsemane" is the one all others are compared to. And, of course, one of that generation's great guitarists, Ritchie Blackmore, master of the screamin' Hammond organ, Jon Lord (back in the days he used a Leslie speaker), and Ian Paice and Roger Glover providing a solid base for these fine musicians.
Great reaction from someone coming to Deep Purple from a position of no knowledge of the band. So interesting for long standing fans to hear. What Gillan did here does not even have a name, they call it screaming but just because no one came up with a better name.
Wonderful reaction again Empress! I enjoyed how when you first asked who’s singing that your mini scream sounded like the lead singers scream! You really got rocking when the tempo picked up and your smile is as beautiful as always! Deep Purple is a great band to rock out to! Enjoy and thank you Empress! You are correct they are “so good!” And your commentary was fabulous!
You finally got to it. The answer to your audience question is that this wasn’t a regular concert but in a tv studio with a captive audience. A non regular purple audience. As such they were not used to it. This and the fact it was in a studio resulted in the ‘unresponsive’ crowd. Glad you enjoyed it
I just love you! and your reaction..... I was 10 years old when I heard this in 1972.... And its was like a religious event... And still today you get the same euphoria
Acabas de reaccionar a la mejor banda de rock sinfonico de yodos los tiempos !! Deep Purple y su fantastico Ian Gillan la mejor voz del rock por siempre !!
This was from a UK tv series called Doing Their Thing in the audience sitting at the wearing a pink top is Manchester United football legend George Best
I love your reaction. This is such a great song - I love this song for many many years - and I feel happy about the joy in your reaction! You are a beautful person...
You re right my dear, I´ve seen this perforance a bunch of times, and I still don´t understand the crowd - like puppies 🤣. I always enjoy you just adoring quality music, when you react, thanks a lot, big hug!
The crowd were forced to be very still and quiet as there was no way that Ian Gillian could repeatedly sing that, if there were problems, because of what it would do to his voice. It had to be done in one take.
@@EMPRESSJOYJEAN On the other hand, the respectful appreciation of a crowd not making themselves the center of attention, and in a way similar to a crowd at a great classical performance. A modern art form on equal terms with an earlier form. Do they head bang watching Pavarotti doing Nessen Dorma?

Let's face it this is a complete masterclass in music and it's over 50 years old. This how you inspire and develop people.
The greatest live band in the 70s. Deep Purple
@@barryrammer7906: One of the greatest. But at least Jethro Tull was equal to Deep Purple, I think.
