Congress is the party which gave itself Bharat Ratna... And yeah, the choice was Sardar Patel, not Nehru. But Gandhi kept democracy aside and made Nehru the Prime Minister. Dirty politics. Gandhi Nehru family has done substantial damage to India. That's why people do not want them anymore.

You also don't know that Nehru was the reason we have Kashmir problem today. Nehru didn't pay attention on arms and ammunition thus our soldiers died pathetically in war. We have lost 62000 sq km to China in that war. People wanted Sardar Patel to be the first Prime Minister, but Gandhi had put democracy aside and chose Nehru. Don't fall for everything because it is said rhetorically well. And last but not least, Nehru was the reason why a terrorist country Pakistan formed.

His contribution in building India on scientific lines by building IIT, IIM, AIMS, STEEL PLANTS and Dams and what not, the credit strengthening democracy and secularism in our country. Dr. Sashi Taroor, I respect you immensely for the man you are and agree with you on Nehru. That doesn't mean Sonia or Rahul or Priyanka is any good to lead India. Indians are more educated nowadays, and they know the truth. If you are trying to cast the glory of Nehuruvian times onto Sonia, and project her as someone she is not, I am sorry to say, you have totally underestimated Indian population. Nehru might have been a man of virtue but his insular idiosyncrasies, statist outlook and 'socialism' did 'not' bring much good to the nation! Besides these socialistic leaders as it is could not stop the elites from getting rich. The ones who would have become rich through capitalism, inevitably became so through corruption and, partiality and favouritism... Had they amassed wealth thr' capitalism, at least there would have been some progress!
Agreed but millions would have died too. Remember India is a poor country and, as rightly pointed by Mr Tharoor, was much poorer back then. Nehru is called a visionary because he tried to build India from within- that's why the number of institutions he founded. Even BJP's quite a few policies are socialist.
Shashi Sir we like you very much as individual but we cant vote to Rahul Gandhi, Shahjada, Nehru Dynasty and his friends Lalu sons (Yadav Dynasty Bihar), Mulayam sons (Yadav Dynasty, UP), Mayawati, Mamta etc. Even we can go for NOTA but not congress and its ally.
