    The sharpest repartee by an Indian politician was by Krishna Menon (Defense Minister) during his speech to the UN during the Indo-Pak conflict. The permanent representative of Canada, Lester Pearson, interrupted Menon & mockingly tried to correct his English amidst giggles & suppressed laughter from some of the British & other English speaking delegates. Menon without missing a beat shot back, "I Sir learnt English, you picked it up." there was absolute silence in the security council & without any further interruptions from these wiseacres.

    • @devkiwboy
      @devkiwboy 6 месяцев назад

      I seem to recall this repartee was actually a response to a compliment (albeit a condescending one - surprise at the high quality of Mr. Menon's English), and not a retort to an insult. But yes, an excellent response to a patronising comment on his English.
