Dont fokus on those "Videos". Simply imagine this to listen on a dancefloor at 2am. Surrounded by songs from Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, SOS Band, Time Bandits, Wham! Laser beamer, brilliant sound ,nice people , etc..... Unbelivable memories.
A Blast from the past pop-up in my feed ABC "The Look Of Love" (1982) and where was I the first time I heard this, it is a very high probability, I was in The Airman's Club😁
Their hair and style was very much old hollywood glam and sophistication. They wore gold lame' suits live on stage. Ooh ooh, you should do an entire album reaction to this album, the lexicon of love. It is one of THE most interesting, catchy, funky, soulful, pop masterpieces from beginning to end. Even their couple of slower paced songs are just sonically mesmerizing. They are really clever in their songwriting. No two songs sound the same yet they all sound like "ABC".
80s - an explosion of sounds, it’s true. I think it’s reflective of a rapid fire rolling advancement in technology, offering whole new way to express sound…possibly….certainly it would have had to have contributed.
I run an ABC fansite so I feel I'm qualified to offer my fave ABC songs from each album :) All of My Heart (big ballad), Bite The Hand (experimental), Fear of the World (opening track), When Smokey Sings (comeback song), North (beautiful album track), Unlock the Secrets of Your Heart (breezy, soulful), Light Years (film sountrack-ish), Fugitives (urbane), and Viva Love (my wedding song). Have fun!
One of my favourite bands. This is from The Lexicon of Love album which is considered one of the finest of the 80s. Stand out singles I’d say are All of My Heart, Poison Arrow, Be Near Me , SOS, Tears are not Enough. I love all their songs though so I’m biased lol
Hello…i’m battling cancer for about 3 years now. And since The start of my chemo therapy, i follow your channel on RUclips. This channel and in particulary you, gives me so much joy and happines in these difficult times! I sincereley hope that i can still follow and like 1000000 songs that you will discover 👍🤘💙🙏🏼
@@joannetyndall3625 good luck Joanna! In my case, it has been a very intense yourney. With a few ups but more downs. Music is a good healing imo… I gonna ligthen up a candle for you Joanna 🍀🍀🙏🏼💛🤞❤️
This band was tons of fun to listen and dance to. Trevor Horn, monster producer, and YES Bassist produced them. ABC was very creative. Martin Fry, singer, was a huge Motown aficionado. You can hear it in his tunes.
The reason the hair cut looks modern is that so many modern haircuts are the old classics. I mean his haircut was pretty "classic" throw back then. I had to laugh because I said the same sort of thing in the 80s about his and other guys with this style only to have my dad whip out pics of him in the early 60s with the same haircut. Followed by pics of his dad in the late 30s/early 40s with it. 😂 What's old is new again. Cool cats. But always good to see you enjoy relating to the music of my youth. ❤️
Don't get distracted by the video. The song is pretty obvious if you just listen to the lyrics (frustrated with, so called, love). Other great ABC songs include "All of My Heart", "Poison Arrow", and "When Smoky Sings."
I have this ABC album of their greatest hits. Martin (the lead singer) has a great voice and this is my all time fav ABC song, second is Poison Arrow, like many below me are stating. This is one of the cd's I listen to while working out, the songs really give me a great work out. The 80's were such a great era for music, so much fun and positivity and people all getting along, MTV, etc..
This is such a nice 80's song, ABC is great, The Night you murdered love is also a good song by them. One of the greatest bands from the 80's are Level 42, check them out. Have a good one
So nice to watch it through your eyes. It sure seemed like you liked it. Besides the instruments, Martin has a beautiful voice. I love this song it has so much to it. Poison Arrow is another favorite that is upbeat. All of my Heart is my favorite slow jam by them. I hope you liked enough to listen to more of them.
The album 'The Lexicon of love' and The lyrics of the song, and others on it were inspired by a break-up lead singer Martin Fry had experienced. In the second verse, during the phrase "When your girl has left you out on the pavement", the "Goodbye" background vocal is spoken by the actual woman in the relationship who had jilted him. The single consists of four parts 1) standard album version 2) is an instrumental version,3) is a vocal version without the orchestral overdubs and 4) is a short acoustic instrumental part of the song. the total version (all 4) is 12:29 The record's producer Trevor Horn (famed for the Buggles 'video killed the radio star' appears in the video. The video is a light mockery of British life with tongue firmly in cheek.
You're right about the lyrics. Fry had a way with clever lyrics. You really need to read them on their own and concentrate. This album has not One Bad Song. Love most of subsequent albums though some were a bit uneven. Check out songs from How to be a Zillionaire, and Beuuty Stab. They were musical chameleons, never staying with one sound or style, a bit like David Bowie.
God, one of the best songs of my teens. One of, there were so many. The 80's was so amazing and special. Im just so glad I was around as a teen at that time. Wouldn't change it for the world. ❤️
Hi Anton, RUclips jiust randomly recommended your channel to me, so here we are listening to ABC! Terrible video, great song. As others have probably said, this was a whole sort of concept album, hit song after hit song flowing into each other. I saw them at the Royal Albert Hall in 2019 - I was some way from the stage but Martin Fry looks pretty much the same, sounds exactly the same, and I think he even has the same hair. They did this entire but opened with probably my favourite song of theirs, 'When Smokey Sings'. Smokey Robinson, of course. Brilliant song - Martin's a bit of a genius. If you want to hear someone else singing with a very English accent, try Sophie Ellis-Bextor. (I'm always requesting her!) She started out doing disco, but classy disco like 'Murder On The Dance Floor', but does ordinary songs as well. Try 'Here Comes The Rapture'. And another would be Chris Rea - a gritty Northern accent mixed with some of the best guitar playing and song writing around. Try 'Curse of the Traveller' or 'Windy Town'. But I see you have a very diverse catalogue - Elton and Ed's Christmas song, a track from the awesome new Tears For Fears album. You've done a song by Alison Krauss, but have you heard any of the work she's done with Robert Plant? I'm kind of addicted to them. Try 'Somebody Was Watching Over Me'. Anyway, enough babbling, this looks like a great find, subscribed right now!
He's talking about the hair cut of lead singer, does what he think the hair cuts of today are new, omg mate they had those cut in 1940s I thinks he's been hiding under a rock.
I have to say it varies, but "Tears Are Not Enough" if to choose one. If possible, please check out the documentary "Made In Sheffield". It is a great film on the era that spawned several bands from that town, including ABC. The producer Trevor Horn has a cameo in this 5:52 He is the guy who produced Frankie Goes To Hollywood as well.
"Your reason for living's your reason for leaving" is one of the best lines ever written, IMHO. "When Smokey Sings" is probably my favorite by this group, but there are many to choose from.
This is one of the few times I purchased an album based solely on the cool cover art. I had not any heard ABC music yet. The Lexicon of Love ended up being my favorite album of the early 80s. Saw them in concert too! The whole album is an 80s vibe but Poison Arrow is the other single. First time seeing the video in its entirety- the video’s pretty cheesy-doesn’t match up with the cool film noir album cover
I haven’t mentioned this before, when you give us your brilliant commentary (😉)… but you do avoid commmenting about some the silliest videos that artists had to put out during the “MTV” video heydays… while some bands were so keyed into wonderful theatrics, others were kinda forced to put out nonsense to promote whatever single the record company wanted. You concentrate on the musicality, the song itself, and I appreciate that. This video is shit-ton, MTV laughable … but the song is actually pretty amazing….
Such an ignorant comment about the haircut. We set the trends already then for what’s cool. But in all honesty we got the ideas for the film noir movies from the 40ies.
It's not ignorant. People throw that word around as an insult far too much nowadays and now everything is ignorant. We all don't know what we don't know. Don't be a dick just because someone doesn't know what you know.
You are choosing to review some good songs. ABC 'look of love' was the school disco growing up in northern England for me, first love, first alcoholic drink, dancing round our handbags . Takes me back . Thanks
First, there are so many sounds in the 80s because everyone was original. Secondly, his "modern haircut" is because fashion and hair recycle and presently we're recycling the 80s and 90s.
The music is not my cup of tea, maybe with another arrangement ? But I saw a lot of influences from the video images in the R.E.M.'s Imitation of Life video.

LOVE all there tunes legend
The songs on this album flowed perfectly from one to the next. The other big single from The Lexicon of Love was Poison Arrow.
I was obsessed with Poison Arrow. Really underrated band we’re ABC .
That was actually a very 80s haircut. It just made a resurgence
I love this song ... And enjoy you're video 👍. Greetings from germany.

Such a fun song from 82. Happy dayz.
FYI A@ 5:51 That guy is the geniues Trevor Horn the producer of this track and the album the Lexicon of Love.

@ Kurt aw thankyou!Yes the ups and downs are very extreme.I stay as positive as possible, but its hard.Ill be thinking of you x
Sending you good thoughts and wishes. Btw, Martin Fry, ABC's lead singer and founder is also a cancer survivor.
There are many favorite ABC songs: when Smokey sings; the night you murdered love, be near me, poison arrow, love conquers all etc.
Poison arrow was a favourite of mine
I still love this song all these years later ❤️
80s nostalgia! Classic.
one of my favourite songs. Absolutely brilliant 🎉. So true, the 80’s has so many classics. English accent, I though he sounds American, hehe.
Listen to the words, one of the best 80 songs!
This was always one of my favorite songs and bands from the 80s! Thrilled to see Anton’s reaction!
All Of My Heart and S.O.S. are two of my favourites ❤❤
king without a crown, another catchy tune
Happy Birthday Martin Frye 🎂❤️

Yea the 80's
ABC the Lexicon of Love album is an 80s classic. They were very popular on this side of the Atlantic
OMG, if you're going to be checking out bands from back then, check out Love Plus One, by Haircut 100 (official video).
great song, barely gets a run anywhere these days.
All of my heart is a good one pal
I loved ABC, I was 16 when this song came out
I would love to see you react to Poison Arrow. It's another catchy one with a great beat!
80s music clips were awesome
That was a "New Wave" haircut. It wasnt mainstream yet. 😁
ABC and this song in particular were so smooth. Brings back such great high school memories.
What an amazing time for music that was. I'd go back and live it all again in a heartbeat!
Love this video. So simple and typical of early 80s. Miss these. Glad we get to experience them here.
I was 19 when that came out 😁
OMG I'm back in the 80s again. ABC were massive in the early 80s & if I'm not wrong still touring.
Great reaction as always.
Don't get distracted by the video. The song is pretty obvious if you just listen to the lyrics (frustrated with, so called, love). Other great ABC songs include "All of My Heart", "Poison Arrow", and "When Smoky Sings."
Poison Arrow is my favorite ABC, song.
This one was their biggest, played on the radio for a good 5 yrs! You missed the Easter Egg, Charlie Chaplin towards the end.
I love the Brits.. ❤
Fantastic song from a fantastic album, 'The Lexicon of Love'! I saw ABC show few years ago, was sooo good!

One of the best British New Romantic bands. Martin Fry was ahead of the game. They were only beaten in this category by Duran Duran

REM’s Imitation of Life came out in 2001. ABC’s The Look of Love came out in 1982. So it would be ABC who influenced REM, not the other way around.
