MOVIES DISCUSSED: The Descent, I Saw The Devil, The Invisible Man, Crawl, The Ring, Audition, Thirst, The Wailing, Deep Red, Green Room, Happy Death Day, Possession, Goodnight Mommy, Jeepers Creepers, Drag Me To Hell, Ready or Not, The House Of The Devil, The Strangers, Videodrome, The Woman Black, House, Dressed To Kill, Killer Klowns From Outer Space and Krampus.
Great list, guys. So many of my favorite movies here. I love I Saw The Devil, I've lost count of how many times I've watched it. Probably my favorite serial killer movie. I first watched Audition when I randomly came across a used dvd in a video store and thought I'd check it out, knowing nothing about the film, it blew my mind. Thirst is absolutely the best vampire movie ever made. The ending scene left me speechless. Park Chan-Wook is a genius. And The Wailing just ticks all the right boxes for me. Some great films I would add to this list and HIGHLY recommend if you haven't seen them: Cold Fish (2010) - From Japanese director Sion Sono (Tag, Love Exposure). I've never seen "fear" portrayed better by anyone than the lead actor in this film. Tumbbad (2018) - From the Indian director Anand Gandhi (Ship Of Theseus). The cinematography alone is enough to recommend this film. Last Night In Soho (2021) - Edgar Wright is one of my favorite directors and his latest did not disappoint. Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016) - From the Indian director Anurag Kashyap
thanks for the heads up on I saw the devil - what a thriller of a movie! had to go ck it out on Hulu after watching your podcast review of underrated horror movies!!!!
What I consider underrated are Eden Lake, Black Christmas (my all time favorite horror movie), Ils (hopefully I'm spelling it right), the Lodge (also directed by the same ones of Goodnight Mommy. I'm glad for your shoutout picks because some of these movies are overlooked and not enjoyed as they should be.
I really enjoyed your list, looking forward to watching some of the ones I haven't seen. I have an all time horror movie list, so I thought I'd share how I ranked the underrated ones. How I rank the underrated movies you mentioned: The Descent #11 The Ring #27 Green Room #32 The Woman Black #58 Jeepers Creepers #65 How I rank underrated movies you didn't. Event Horizon (1997) #35 30 Days of Night (2007) #36 The Host (2006) #43 The Devil's Rejects (2005) #48 The Neon Demon (2016) #49 Underwater (2020) #52 Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) #55 Annihilation (2018) #61 The Night House (2020) #62 The Mist (2007) #64
Thanks for this! I’m always interested in seeing what other scary/disturbing films are out there. I’m especially interested in House. I just watched the trailer and it looks insane lol!
The descent is incredible! One of the best around, we need more Monster movies like this, seems like it could happen (obviously can't) but makes you hesitant to enter a cave.
Mandy was great. It’s hard for a movie to be considered a favorite after first watch but the first time I saw it I knew it was going to be a favorite. The blending of genres is what makes it so perfect and while the movie is very stylized, there is still so much substance that can be interpreted in many ways. It’s a great movie and I hope more and more people can see it and recognize how great of a film it is.
I 10/10 recommend RAW (2016) it is a French film and does an amazing job of capturing the lengths that someone will go to to fit in. does an amazing job of capturing discomfort! I read that when this movie first premiered, people were leaving the theater because it made them physically ill. Really love the episode, been listening to this pod for years!
when Chris Stuckmann reviewed Audition he brought up how we’re watching a guy play the system in a very disturbing fashion and that everything that has happened that since happened regarding Harvey Weinstein should strengthen it’s raw and visceral power
Most of these aren't underrated. They're overlooked. Horror fans know. No one says tons of bad things about most of them. "Darkness Falls" is underrated. "My Soul to Take". Movies that people rip on. Enjoyed the podcast, though. Lots of great points.
Im a day one fan, but I had to come over from spotify to UNSUBSCRIBE after hearing about their love for that garbage fire the invisible man! Honestly I was just never scared. UNSUBSCRIBE!! Love the show 😂
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ episode idea for the spooky season: best animated spooky movies? Corpse Bride, Paranorman, Coraline, Monster House 😆, etc. Thoughts?? Love you guys, you’re the best and thanks for replying to your fans!

David Cronenberg’s Videodrome is very influential on the cyberpunk subgenre and on body horror and sci-fi

So glad you enjoyed it! What a finale! 👀
Idk how popular it is so it might not be underrated but “As above so below” was fantastic and I don’t hear many people talking about it
You’re right, that’s a solid one!
The Blackcoat’s Daughter starting Emma Roberts! Super atmospheric, slow-burn, and psychological. I don’t know anyone that knows of it lol
Adding to my list!

Krampus is directed by Michael Dougherty the same guy who made Trick r’Treat
Ohhhhhh
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ I brought it up
Krampus, Crawl, Spree, and Drag Me To Hell is really underrated. Great list, and it gave me some movies to watch for October.
Thanks!!

The french movie 'High Tension' is so good too.
I prefer Jaws(1975) over Crawl
when Chris Stuckmann reviewed Audition he brought up how we’re watching a guy play the system in a very disturbing fashion and that everything that has happened that since happened regarding Harvey Weinstein should strengthen it’s raw and visceral power
The Ring is a remake of the 1998 Japanese horror classic
More need to see The Wailing.
