This mare took one ride in the morning which is done at a walk on paved paths pulling a very light fiberglass carriage with what, maybe three or four people in it? Then she stood at the hack line for an hour and a half. She was literally standing around doing nothing when she had a heart attack.

The horse died
The headquarters collapsing is pretty common with seizures as well as with aneurysms- which is common with horses- and could be either from what this video shows. However, it's hard to know for sure as it doesn't show all that went on, so we don't know for sure until the vets there check the body and find a COD. 💜
The legs are just collapsing like a Human does while having a heart attack. I am not a Vet...and a Vet couldn't tell you just by watching the video...but I'd bet it's a heart attack. Surely these Horses are checked regularly by a Vet?

It's really not that bad! I think you best be careful on the Internet, as there's videos 1000x more horrible out there. What you can find on the WWW these days has no limit...if you can imagine it you can watch it. Humans decapitated with a chainsaw...just a click away!! Makes you wonder what effect it has on young minds, the young minds that go shooting up schools for example 😕

Definitely torn here. No need to ban horse & carriages in New York, it is a special old-school tradition. But feel free to ban animal abuse! There needs to be a BETTER regulation and better care for these horses 🐎 that are completely over-worked. NYC Parks 🍁 Department should provide proper facilities for the horses such as shelter with some soft grass 🌾 to walk on, water and food.
no i say ban horse and carriages in new York! it is abuse and these beautiful creatures are treated like slaves! how would you like it if you were FORCED to do what these poor horses do?! you would not like it. we have legs so we should use them. there are other forms of transport allowing you to get around without having to use horse and cart. they deserve better. they helped us through the war and throughout history so deserve better. i respect your opinion though but i disagree with it.

I'm so upset. Animals live and breath like us. Please stop this abuse once and for all. It's a different horse I've seen in these videos at least four.
Tragic, those poor horses are treated badly and just worked to the bone just to make money. That whole industry needs to be shut down.

Those horses are bread to pull carriages, they love doing it! What else would they be doing. They love working! Just like a working dog. There’s little they could have done.

That looks like the horse had an aneurysm or seizure, which are very common in horses. I don't know the truth of how horses there are treated, as the media isn't a reliable source because they all skew and edit things to push agendas, so I can't say whether or not the horse truly died of exhaustion- and we won't know until the vet finds cause of death and releases it to the public. HOWEVER, from the looks of solely the video shown it appears that the COD might be a seizure or aneurysm. Sad nonetheless💜
You can look up the statistics and readily available public records and many MANY news articles throughout decades of this practice, you can see the amount of horses who've died, worked to death in all types of weather. We have been trying to get this abuse banned but diBlasio does NOT give af and no mayor before him has either. Something has got to change, this has gone on too long now.
@@starkravingralph I agree, there are practices in that industry that need reform, just like other equine and animal industries. I'm just saying that unless we are there to see what's going on behind the scenes, we don't know for sure the complete/unedited truth of the quality of husbandry provided as well as working conditions of the horses. There are some companies that treat their horses better than most pet horses are treated, and unfortunately are bashed and treated poorly because they are grouped in with abusive barns/companies, despite going above and beyond excellent care for their horses. There are companies that 100% need to be shut down and do time for animal cruelty; I'm not saying that there aren't. All I was saying is that the media is an unreliable source, and we don't know for sure cause of death until the vet releases the report- so we shouldn't immediately jump on the "horse was worked to death" narrative until we know what happened from an educated and reliable source, as we don't know from this particular video if the horse was from an ethical cart service or from one that is abusive. I'm not in disagreement that there needs to be a stop to the abuse that is rampant in the industry, just stating we don't know all the facts of the situation with this to make a judgment of the situation yet. I hope that clarifies my intention of my original post. 💜
@@KickAssCowgirl27 Regardless of this particular horses issue, the carriage rides need to be banned. This happens all too often and summer is on its way, that means a few more dead horses. This will not stop, it has been going on for too long and we are well aware of what happens behind the scenes which is why some of us have been speaking out against it for over 15yrs.

I love all the people crying "abuse". How do you know the horse was abused? People die, animals die. Do you scream and cry for the electrical worker who dies on the job from a heart attack? While it is a sad site to behold, the animals are typically well cared for.
