He should be given the "C" and Trouba should be traded for whatever they can get for him at this point. I like Mikka as a player but he may need a change of scenery also. I see little to suggest Knoblauch would have had the same magical effect on NYR (or any other team) as he did on Oilers. That set of 25 guys has real leaders with top NHL skills like McD and Drei. The set of 25 NYR seems to be very different, they have no leaders like those 2. And the Hartford AHL team wasn't exactly sizzling hot when he got the offer to take the Edm job.
Mika has lost his scoring touch and is way too soft when you have to go into the corners to retrieve the puck and too many bad pass that result in odd man rushes the other way!

The NYR are a distant 2nd-fiddle to the Knicks in Dolan's eyes, and now probably even behind his priorities with sports betting ops. I say Trouba has to go and zibanejad too. Even if that screws up this season so what. The cap space available after removing those contracts will allow us to bring in people who are younger, tougher, and can do the job better. Even if we have to sacrifice a little offense that's better for us. We have plenty of offensive prowess. We need more physicality and defense plus people who actually want to win.

If I was Drury I'd be shopping an Igor trade ASAP. But what team really wants to overpay a goalie that is great, but not that much greater than many goalies I've seen this year. If that happens, failing to trade him, then management can use that in their next contract offer. Like, no team wants to pay you either...so take it or leave it.

I understand feeling sad b/c you know you are on the trading block, but Trouba, Kerider, et. al, should still perform. After all they are professionals.
