    Very impressive conversion and excellent videos. I found this after seeing ads for the VW e-Transporter, and wondering about the practicality of an all-electric campervan. The Nissan is clearly a much better base than the VW at the moment due to driving range. As a keen motorhomer whose professional life has included home energy and storage applications I was particularly interested in some of the points you made.
    1. You make the point that Nissan won't let you go near their battery system. Wouldn't it be great if you could integrate the vehicle and leisure systems. You'd get enormous capacity, particularly useful for heating and cooking, along with simpler and more flexible charging logistics. I reckon Nissan are missing a trick in not helping here - they could certainly use their vehicle to grid capabilities to give a 240V output from the vehicle battery. A while ago Rivian showed a camper concept for their electric truck that was (they said) taking advantage of the vehicle electrical system.
    2. I've always fancied the idea of a gas-free campervan, and you've taken this a stage further by going all electric. But I hadn't thought through the implications for space heating. With conventional motive power a diesel heater is a good option, but with all-electric there are real limitations. For most users most of the time, if it's cold enough for heating you'd have a hook-up, and you can always use an electric heater (from either the vehicle or leisure battery I assume) for short picnic stops.
    3. The use case for campervan works quite well with the need for relatively frequent charging stops - having the all facilities for a coffee break readily to hand makes it less burdensome than it would be for a car.
    4. Your comments about solar were very fair and balanced. For me, the ability to survive off-grid is useful, and with a compressor fridge solar is required to achieve that.
    Your e-NV200 could have just been a publicity stunt, but you've taken it much further than that - great work for a small company.

    With maximum solar panels fitted can I trickle charge the traction battery via the inverter and the granny cable?
    Cheers

  • @BenjaminVestergaard
    @BenjaminVestergaard 2 года назад

    How much could you put on the traction battery if you used the standard 230V home adapter? 😉
    Also, I don't know the Nissan, but some newer cars have USB-C ports that can output 65W @ 5V. Or even 230V sockets that can output 60-100W. Some native 12V sockets are wired to be able to supply 200W.
    What I'm saying that it should be possible to move power around without opening the charging circuit or battery of the car, which is what Nissan doesn't want you to do.
    It wouldn't be the same efficient or clean tho. And I do agree that it's good to keep two battery systems. But it could be nice if it'd be possible to only need one plug while charging or that shore power could also charge the traction battery either when leisure battery is full, or by the flip of a switch.

      Hello Dean
      The fridge we install is very efficient. It uses around 3 amps at 12v when running, but it only runs from time to time as it is well insulated

    Is it possible to use the portapotti with the bed made up? As antiques this is our first and most important question.

    • @SussexCampervansLtd
      @SussexCampervansLtd  3 года назад

      We'd suggest popping the portapotti in an awning during the night when the bed is made up. Unfortunately the footprint is a little too small to comfortably use a portapotti and have the bed down at the same time.
