I am glad you are bringing attention to this. I have been complaining about this for years. Grabs are part of the basic combat mechanics they need to adress. Resistance is not necessary. They just need to fix grabs. Hell even Wizard is dumb af. Warrior is +1 meter to the avg grab. (extra step) Lahn & Sage is +3 meters. Scholar is like +6, but actual usuable range depends on buffs/slows. Now the real cringe part about all those grabs is the difference in exposure, Cancels due to grab, movement before the grab.. :D
Yeah, what really matters isnt range tbh, its speed and predictability. Tamer grab range might seem low compared to corsair but a corsair needs to think twice before attempting it just because how long, unprotected and telegraphed the grab is while tamer grab barely has an animation, any non ability used in WW range of a tamer can pretty much instantly be punished, forcing the players to simply kite the class constantly as there isnt anything else that can be done while grab is off CD, similar issue with ranger grab for example, they are simply too damn fast to allow any other type of counterplay other than kiting, if they had more range the only difference would be the range you would have to kite them from.
Ninja grabs are the two most honest grabs. One is really slow and unprotected for 60% of the successful animation, with a long punish window if you whiff, but has reach The other is fast and instantly protected on success, but with no reach. Everybody's grabs should be nerfed to one of these two.
On the Lahn grab I'm pretty sure it lollipops at the end. That's why they'll clip a close up grab and say it doesn't have a cone, but the cone is larger as it goes out.
Another thing to be considered is the movement each class that anticipates those grabs, because they kind of works as a range extenders... Have a longer range grab won't matter when the class with the lesser range has a hundred miles s to get into your face and use it. Definitely it's not like all classes would walk and grab in the same way... Just think about how ninja grabs works, always after a long range block jump, same thing for ranger, that can forward into a grab with no counterplay.
yea i didnt get too into the rest of the details, there's plenty of other factors to determine how useful a grab really is, the cone range, startup speed, miss punish length, grab duration, preemptive skills, etc.. but guardian def took the cake with the surprise factor for stationary grab im sorry LOL

I'm about to start abusing that in AOS 😂 also I was suprised non-ranged grab classes grabs go that far I just assumed everybody had to walk up in kissing distance but it turns out it's better to be further away since most grabs look like they have slight cones if they stand at their max distance? So the closer you are to the target the more easier it is to dodge maybe?
Wanna get more surprises? Yes, lahn have a 30º cone for grab if u have some distance... Now test zerker and striker almost melee, they have a 180º range for grabs and like 3m heigh up and down and no 1 complains xD U can just stay besides them and they will grab u while aiming forward xD In nodes zerkers are grabbing me when the head of my character is below their feets on a rock, awa lahn doesn't... Zerker and strikers grab me while flying 2m above their heads, lahn doesn't... i don't think awa lahn grab is a menace anymore tbh. But nice content u have there, is nice to check this things from time to time ^^

id like to do that but id need to be sure that i have know the fastest cancels for each class to do that so it requires quite a bit of research considering a lot of players don't even know the fastest cancels on their classes. maybe ill get around to it though i was already thinking about it when we made this video and went over how fast tamer/ranger can cancel
Now imagine trying to avoid some of these grabs and the people using them are 120+ ping. Even if you do on your screen this is why you get grabbed because of absurd distances in the first place. Any grab class with absurd distance needs to have speed debuffs removed so they can’t abuse high ass ping.
Hello Gold, may I ask which 3 grabs in the game you think are the most broken overall, when thinking about all criterias? I know you didn't extensively test stuff like grab speed, recovery etc. yet but I would love to hear your opinion regardless. Thank you!
im caught between the FAST grabs like tamer/ranger/zerk being broken but also CONE grabs are way too strong such as hash/lahn, its hard for me to pick out of all of those lol
This is the exact reason why i have a hard time attributeing any form of value or skill to grabclasses in PvP. Ranges of grabs are just wayyyyyyy to damn insane especially paired with movement on certain classes. Keep in mind we ONLY talked about range so far, ontop of that the insanity of archs and movespeed of certain classes. Like come on, warri for example has around a 270° grab arch, awe ranger around 180° and so on. This isnt even where it stops btw. Now we can touch on stuff like: - grabs work on hitscan, the moment you press E and your crosshair is locked, nothing matters on your enemys screen besides Iframes. You can litterly grab into a CC and said grab gets prio all the time. There is no actual "hit" needed like every other cc or skill for that matter. - crosshair lock is aim assisted (its default on and basicly never turned off for any reason). - grabs are desync favored. The amount of time a grab "lands" where one has been 1 sec ago is just nuts. - grabs mostly ignore the vertikal achsis as well as walls (for some wierd reason). - since reboot grabs got consitent buffs. The only ever "nerf" we saw was a bit more CD which done absolutly nothing. - the list goes on but i assue people get the point, no need to spoil all the info. So yeah, i have a very hard time not laughing at failed grabs the moment a player mains a grabclass. It doesnt get easier. At this point missing a grab is harder then to land them, or they just took a risk cause it works most of the time anyway. With that said, the whole "but my grab is short" or "just counter it" are just funny approches from incompetent players.

Guardian grab doesnt really work like that tho, the dash itself is not part of the grab, it does a dash and then procs the grab, the dash part is even worse cuz a slow can fuck the whole dash part and delay the grab part even more. Its literally a worse version of the dash+grab combo of the warrior that u do with two separated inputs. Idk why people act like is broken when its pretty much bad

the first rule of tamer grab is you do not talk about tamer grab range. the second rule of tamer grab is you do not talk about what we do after missing tamer gram. the third rule of tamer grab is that the class probably needs crucial buffs in multiple other areas and that's all we talk about.
Would have loved to see Succ Warrior Prime Take Down here. Absolute says it has extra range, prime doesnt. These were well enough tests to really tell what grabs are really over tuned though. AoE on grabs is peak BS tho lol.

You cant compare just range for grab and say wow those classes are op. There are animations speed, different cones etc. Testing PvP on a dumb npc its like voting demos.
When you discovered how absolutely trash succ Ninja's grab range is it made me laugh. Worst grab in the game. Unprotected, enormous hangtime on the whiff animation, shortest range in the game.
I think the problem is not the grab, the problem is that ninja grab is the best in the game because you have 2 d TPs to my back and instant animation for grab, with 0 chances of counterplay and both tp's make you invisible to my eye, one of them with a bit delay baiting my if u do it perfectly... I don't think they should nerf that, but some other things from ninja should be turned down a bit, like the class buff or some skills dmg/AOE.
@@Seiza_InSomnia It's not instant animation, it's the shortest range, slowest melee grab with the longest linger on whiff. And both teleports are basically unusable against a moving opponent. If you think Ninja is in the top 5 pvp classes right now you're high. Its perception is entirely carried by the fact that the only remaining ninja players are OG skillords with 8 years on the class. It makes it seem like the class is better than it is.

It's a really hard class to play and master, but if you learn how to play it well, you have way too many tools to fight 1v1 at succ or 1vX if you play awakening. In small scale pvp, a really good ninja is way better than a really good drakania, or musa, or guardian, or ranger, or whatever class u wanna compare. Ninja kit is just made to fight 1v1 and because of that, is more capable of winning those 1v1. He has one of the best kits for 1v1, one of the best magnus skill, one of the best TP's to your back, one of the best E buffs... But you just need double the hours of training.
ngl i ran these tests TWICE on stream and nobody reminded me that sage has a second version of his grab, i guess scholar kind of does too, but tbh this was mostly about range so i dont mind that we missed those versions since they are just close range versions OF ranged grabs

Grab range isn't as relevant as grab order since people grabbing already have their head up your ass anyway. Class age(old > new) is an absolute tie breaker.
As a Guardian player since day 1 release, this is misinformation. Guardian has one of the worst grabs in the game... and yes, listen to actual Guardian players, not some gamer dude who's never played Guardian before. Our grabs in succ (as well as in awk to an extent) are broken AF that we can't rely on it. Our grabs are so "OP" that we phase through a player after lingering animations and the cone is almost non-existent unless you're in a direct line (provided the grab actually connects).
They have the best combat system in an mmo but they don’t want us to pvp, adding more and more unbalanced stuff and more classes with instant range grab. Disgraceful.

Aside from range, animation speed is a huge factor with how strong a grab is. It is nice to see all the ranges back to back though

Can you show how protected some grabs are (fail grab into protection) vs the others to find the true most broken grab (its tamer/ranger we know)
