Being in the service industry helps reinforce the things their parents have tried to teach them. Teaching problem solving skills, dealing with others, being on time, treating others respectfully even when it is not returned , as well as dealing with money, saving, spending, feeling independent, the satisfaction that comes with making money. It also helps young people figure out where they want to go in life as far as careers. If they find that they hate working outside, or working with kids, or in food industry maybe those aren’t for them. It can aid in choices made when choosing classes for school as well. All in all there is so much more to be gained from a job than not, it should be a pre requisite for college/university. Think of how it would be for a young person to just graduating from university with absolutely no experience… they are absolutely going to choose a different candidate. Not to mention the overwhelming panic of stepping out into the world as a 22 yr old inexperienced young adult.

Yes. I did not work in high school or college and regretted it. Children are spoiled in so many ways and earning money is critical to understanding how to manage yours.

I would encourage all teens to take on jobs in fast food restaurants or retail jobs…..take on a sense of responsibility and learn value of money.

Every teenager should survive a lousy job experience. Helps them realize the importance of doing well in school and studying for the career they want.
