Is there a comprehensive reference that describes how to reinstall the OS -- including what and how to backup, subtle things that might get lost in the process (e.g., iMovie library), etc.?
I got a imac from a guy i work with. If i time it from when i press the power button, it shuts down after a very precise 30 mins. It's not random and even without a hdd or ssd in it, no OS just letting it in the boot menu, it will shut after 30 mins. Even Apple themselves could not resolve it. In that 30 mins, the computer works perfectly.
my dads mac powers up then shuts down. iMac OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.6, 20 " Early 2009. he watches news, videos, emails and retirement/military documents. i am sure thre are no updates. if worse comes to worse thinking about getting him a Mac mini and using the iMac as a monitor. esp as he bought me my 1st Macbook 2017 which i still have like new - so far i've asked him to unplug everything then try to power up. i also saw a video on using Option key what do you think?????
I have just today fixed my late 2013 over 1 year of attempts and apple trying to scam me as usual by trying to charge me £599. I took out the SSD internal stick and noticed it was a little blackened where it connects back into the socket, I clean it with cleaning alcohol (JOOP aftershave ) with a cotton wool bud and boom my MacBook is back up and running. I hope this works for you too!
This app messed my mbpro up, can't even get in, won't load full just crashes and nothing working.. won't reset SMC, NvPRam nothing..all after download this app and leave running in background, camera wouldn't connect all of sudden, glitching and shutting down ..bro this is not right.. you're creating the problem for you to solve

If all five steps fail, reset the NVRAM, then reinstall the OS. If the panic occurs after reinstalling check all peripherals and connections.

Random shutdown means we can't perform all these tasks which you are suggesting. Not even I can put loginn password before that my mac shuts down
