this was super fun! thanks for having me
really good singing!
Strumming hard its got the "jangle", superb.
Bro u have an amazing voice with some superb voice articulation! Wow! I'll Def check out ur channel!
been a fan of that clean voice for a while. Do you play all your covers in C standard out of curiosity?
You guys sound fantastic together.
Great singing and playing.
Such a sweet voice =) perfect singing
I have a Yamaha FS 720S, a smaller body folk acoustic I bought in 2010. A little muddy sounding, but the strings you recommend helped to brighten and separate the tones a bit. It's sturdy and wasn't expensive. I toss it in my car with no case, occasionally leave it in the garage in the summer/winter, etc., and it never complains.. Action is a bit high, but I like the slightly shorter scale. If I ever upload a video, ya'll will get to hear it! Nice performance 👍
Yamaha focuses on quality. I have a mid 70s acoustic and a piano from a slightly earlier period. Both are excellent instruments.
The first guitar I ever bought with my own money was a Yamaha CPX 700 - best purchase I've ever made. That guitar was my main guitar for 5+ years and I would constantly get asked what brand that guitar was. I got many surprised or even shocked looks when I told them it was a Yamaha 😅
They’re so good!
I used to think of jet ski's when I though of Yamaha, until I started playing their acoustics 20 years ago. Then I completely forgot they made jet ski's. All my acoustics are Yamaha's except my Taylor
I think I need a jet ski next
@@seandaniel23 you need to make a video of you playing a Yamaha guitar on a Yamaha jet ski
I like my Yamaha FG820C (c is for C cut) far more than my Epiphone Hummingbird Special Edition with a C cut-thank you. I think it comes down to neck width. The Hummingbird has a 12-something inch radius and the Yamaha 15-something inches.
FSX5 is the best guitar I ever played. Craftsmanship is incredible
I started out on a Yamaha 350. Played better than my Upgrade, a Takamine Santa Fe.
When did PewDiePie learnt to play Guitar man.??
Probably the worst Yamaha they could have sent you.
What model Yamaha is the smaller one that Hudson is playing? Been thinking of purchasing a Yamaha FS800. Anyone know anything about that model you can share with me? I am a senior beginner.
I just bought an fs800 a couple weeks ago as my first guitar, i chose it over the fg800 because i wanted something versatile and less overbearing than the dreadnought. Love the sound of this thing and am learning well because of it, it can be LOUD though
Because we're whiney, elitist lil bitches.
Miss you, Sean 😘
P.S. Yamaha acoustics are great, especially for the price
Thank you my dear boi ❤️❤️❤️
Check out John Denver - he played Yamaha throughout the 70’s & 80’s…. Also a super great underrated guitarist… 🎸💙
Legend
Oh yes he certainly is…. Have you ever seen the clip of John playing Bells of Rhymney on the 12 string?? 🎸💙
Mac Wiseman played a killer flagship Japanese Yamaha
$1650 ?. .....may be a nice guitar, but overpriced IMO .
I feel like Yamaha used to be seen as “a cheap alternative” but I’ve come to realize in recent years how good some of the models actually are
So good
You are correct.
Now the collectors caught on. Try to find a 70s black label. Aka FG300
I play one of the original Revstars , a Pacifica 311H and when my best friend died in 2008 his daughter gave me his Red Label FG180 that he'd had since 1972. It needed a neck reset and plays great. I have a silent steel string guitar and an LS6M acoustic .Yamaha are great value at every price point. Great playing guys. Greetings from Liverpool England.
Tommy Emmanuel is the best acoustic guitar player to ever live 😁
But Elliott Smith is good too, Just sayin
it's close ;)

I have Fsx5. Punches way above its weight class. Awesome guitar.
Such a good one!
He is clearly stoned.
Bert Jansch played Yamaha and you would be hard put to find a better acoustic guitarist .
I’ve been playing Yamahas since I switched to nylon strings last year. I have been playing the NTX-5, and the SLG200N, and absolutely LOVE them both! I keep an NTX-3 at my parent’s house for visiting. Sometimes I think I can hear/feel a difference between the two models. Other times I can’t. I absolutely ADORE the Atmosfeel pickup system as well, which is how everyone I play for hears it. I use it with an IR and light reverb.
Sounds like a great setup!
bert jansch was a yamaha player.
And Dylan. And Page.
He played some L Series guitars.
Yamaha's are definitely underrated. Always love the Elliott Smith content. Just subbed to Hudson, he's so good!
He’s amazing right?!
Please don't say underated. They are rated. More like overlooked.
Without even wasting time watching this video, I will answer the question posed in the title. If a musician sees his instrument as a tool for his work, he can buy it from Yamaha without hesitation. Concert grand pianos, keyboards, brass instruments, guitars, whatever. It does the work.
But to brag, you need a Gibson logo on the headstock. Understood?
I bought and returned a Yamaha FSX5- ($1650)-harsh, strident trebles and sloppy workmanship (dried glue squeeze-out between fretboard and top; at the side fret-marker dots where the neck joins the body, it looks like they used badly applied putty to cover up the saw marks) Anyway, the intonation and playability were pretty good, and I really wanted to like the guitar, but I just couldn't get past the above. IME
Sorry you had a bad experience! Yeah i've noticed a few guitars from other manufacturers come like that, this one was pretty perfect though
LOL RUclips guitar folk..
It's so easy to love a guitar brand, or modal .. When it's sent to you for free..
And then .. We're supposed to take your word on it.. Because it's you; saying it?
It's a great world ain't it?
The guy had to sell his pants to buy the guitar
When I play my Martin somehow the universe just seems to feel inline. Sorry Yamaha
You can love both!
@@seandaniel23 anymore guitar cases, and I'm going to have to move out of my room. Lol
@@seandaniel23I bought my D18 before you did, but you bought the A5CR before I did. I don’t like it more than the Martin, but it’s different enough to want both.
My electric guitar is a Yamaha.
I've never played their electrics
Dem yah-mah-hahs don't sell cuz dey ain't made in da USA!!! USA!!! USA!!! so Bubba don't lahk-em !!
I've read some posts on the acoustic guitar forum where people toldd how they they got shunned by fellow guitarists for showing up to a meet with a Japanese guitar.
Then again I also read that most musicians do not care about what you bring only how you play and that they understand that not everyone can afford a D28.
As an at this stage of my journey open cord campfire guy I tell everyone looking for a guitar to set aside a budget and go to a store and try out all the guitars on the wall in that price range and then take home the yamaha.
$300 ish: FG/FS 8xx. You can get an LL6 for a smidgen over $500.
In the mid $500-1000 range you can buy an A series or a TA. In the upper $500-1000 range you can get a FG3 red label or a LL16 M. Around $1000 you can get a LL16 with the rosewood back and sides. At $1500 there is the FG5 red label.
Nothing beats that. Not the cheaper Martins and Taylors from mexico and not the guilds and epihones from China. I've tried them all.
In D18 territory you can get a LL26 and in D28 territory a FG9 which more than hold their own but which I will probably never play or own.
The only other guitar that has a value preposition like that is the Alvarez IMO.
Love my crisp gold P90 loaded Revstar Pro.
I’ve seen though but never played one!
@@seandaniel23 Sean it is beautiful to play. I had mine set up with a PLEK machine too, my logic being that the Stainless Steel frets should last a great deal of time and the carbon fibre reinforced neck and body will hopefully prove extra stable. My poor USA Vintage '62 re-issue Strat which I have had since 1989 hasn't been getting much of a look in live these last 14 months! Love the contouring, very comfortable and similar to a Strat. The P90s sound great. I am definitely a single coil guy. The build quality combined with the lovely satin finish neck is superb. I think they look good too! Kind regards.
I have a Yamaha A5R they are just really great guitars and you’re gonna have to spend twice the money to get anything decently close.
Really great value
Good enough for Bert Jansch. Own an LL36, A4K, LL16-12. Love them all.
I absolutely looove my Japan made Yamaha FS5 and FG5 but I'm hardly a guitar player hahaha.
Victor Smolski would suggest that he's very familiar with Yamaha
If Yamaha was good enough for Bert Jansch, they’re good enough for anyone.
truth
I have an SA-15 and love it. Most folks think of school instruments when they think Yamaha. Few big pop acts have yielded Yamaha, and that's probably the main factor in their remaining elusive.
Nice guitar and great performance Hudson!
Hudson is so good!
@@seandaniel23 He sure is 👍
I love Yamaha
so good!
we here in the comments section feel robbed
of the Panic and Concern we usually feel when you Unbox a guitar.
I didnt wince ONCE !
I know! It was too easy!
I love my Yamaha
So good!
my dad was a virtuoso picker - he could have bought and played any guitar his heart desired. He had a very nice Epiphone Olympic that he bought in 1939 when he was commissioned in the Army , but it hadn't aged well. He liked playing my Hummingbird and was considering a J-45 when he picked up a used Yamaha FG300. Most folks equate them with plywood- actually three cross grained plies of incredibly precisely cut wood. Yamaha's move from "solid" wood guitars was made because - prior to airtight, insulated shipping containers - their relatively fragile solid guitars didn't do well in the steel holds of the day. They put a lot of engineering and artistic effort in building those red labels. That particular FG300 was a very nice guitar - reminded me of a J-45 in weight, feel and tone. It's still in the family, neck and belly are still like new, and with modern strings, it really sounds good and except for a few divots in the fingerboard, looks and feels like it did when it was new. . As I recall, Country Joe McDonald played one.
I too have a guitar for every tuning. That's how you end up 12 acoustics... 😅
- Standard
- Standard half-step down (main guitar)
- Standard half-step down (backup for my main guitar)
- Open F
- Open C
- DADEAD
- DADGAD
- Open D
- Drop D
- Nashville Tuning
- B-Standard (Baritone)
- C-Standard (Rubber Bridge)
Ok, listing it like this makes me realize I might have a problem... 😂😅
haha, you and me both
All Yamaha's?
@@dirkjanklijn9949 No, only the backup for the main guitar and the Open C.
I LOVED my Yamaha RGX 603a! Bought it from a friend who bought it new. He paid $450 out the door with case. I got it for half that a little over a year later. Divorce has that kind of effect on a man. DGAF any more!
Glad to see requires no sharp objects to open the box. The Yamaha guitars sound great. Hudson has a fabulous
I'm a massive fan and owner of Yamaha guitars , drum hardware , recording hardware and so on!
Yamaha slays at all levels!
Yamaha acoustics are the best bang for the buck. Period. If i could get rid of this nightmare Fender i would replace it in a second. I also have my eye on a Revstar. Badass electric.
Sorry you're having trouble with your Fender! Best of luck!
My first quality acoustic was a Yamaha fg 180 . Excellent instrument and for not much money . Great motorcycles to
Great stuff
Such perfection of pitch, transparency and modulation in the singer's voice. Many compliments man.
Happy owner of a FG830
Sean sounds like he is drunk.....🤔
My Yamaha is my favorite guitar.
Great guitars!
Hey Sean, I have a Yamaha SE211 electric with a locking nut. My first new guitar purchased in the late 80's. It stays in tune while doing dive bombs and has weathered the "put it up for sale" storm. Granted it only has 2 pickups SH, but has coil splitting. I probably paid $300ish for it, but will keep this one as it is a treasured member of the fleet. Great video.
I love all Yamaha musical instruments.
They make such great stuff
I love my Yamaha guitars. I have an FG800 and a Yamaha classical. They are both solid players and will never leave my collection.
Same here lol
Love my acoustic Yamahas but my first electric was a Yamaha and now I think all electric Yamahas are not as good 😂
I bought an F310 model from a second Hand shop for £25 its bloody amazing, I have a d28 sigma as my main guitar AT THE MOMENT BUT JUST LOVE TO PLAY THIS 40 YEAR OLD BABY 🇬🇧❤️🙌
Keep on rockin!
You know what? A lot of guitar players love Yamaha guitars.
Forgot to mention I got my first one in 1968. Red label FG180 made in Japan. My current ones include a’68 FG110, and a 90s CS LS10
Rewatching this AGAIN. You guys sound fantastic! Hudson, man, your vocals are top notch as well-- and that's coming from someone who NEVER wants to hear anyone sing ES but ES. Simple, straight, honest..so good. I could be wrong, but didn't ES record with a D28? I know he played the red label on the road, but I think his later studio stuff was a D28. Also, I'm keeping a guitar in standard C; any advice on strings? I've got some mediums on now, but if anyone has a set you love for lower tunings I'd love to hear. Thanks! Favorite vid on your channel, Sean. I'll be back in another month lol!
I’m gonna tell you something very important.
Antonio Banderas is not your step father.
He is your father.
Dad?
That means you cannot date His famous step daughter.
Yamaha was started as a musical instrument company. In fact, its logo is three tuning forks arranged in the “triad’ pattern.
I like that you’re featuring other artists, Sweetwater should give that kid a Yamaha of his own
Doin my best!
I believe he's playing the FG800. The playability on this is phenomenal which is exactly what is needed for beginner players. The model sells a ton.
I think it's a bit smaller I think it the FS800.
As an FG800 owner myself I advise people to spend $100 more and get the FG830. That is what I got my stepson as a birthday gift. I find it significantly better with a better sound and better playability.
Or an Alvarez ad30, more or less the same thing.
I loved my early 90s pacifica made in Japan before they made the cheap pac models
Those are so popular
I have a Yamaha APX4A bought second hand from a friend for £120 - super slim body and got action really low. My go to guitar when practicing at home - great plugged in to BUT you know what I never use it at busker/speakeasy nights preferring my GSmini Koa e or my Guild M120E Cherry as both are small bodied. I gave up using my Faith Venus as too heavy. There’s definitely snobbery around playing some guitars but it’s what you feel comfortable with 🎸🎙🎶
The simplified answer is this; they are bland and boring…
GREAT sounding, GREAT playing, Well Made, but an absolutely boring looking guitar.
Most people who have looked at or considered a Yamaha guitar are probably looking at the Pacifica, around the $400 mark, and frankly for that price they don’t catch the eye at all and that’s their ultimate downfall.
Even if you look to the higher end of the range at the ~$2,000 ballpark, again, they are boring to look at, and if you’re going to spend ~$2,000 on a guitar, most people even if they don’t like to admit it are superficial creatures! And at that price point you can get much more interesting looking guitars from Fender, Ibanez, PRS, Schecter, sometimes Gibson and if you want something a bit more off the beaten track you can get Wylde Audio guitars (which I think are just Schecter with Zakk Wylde’s name on it??) … I’m sure they’re all relatively similar in build quality, sound and feel but you get a little more “oomph” with how they look compared to a Yamaha
If Yamaha put a little more effort into the look of their guitars, offered some different tops maybe, then it would increase their appeal
Id like a free Yamaha from Sweetwater too!
I just bought an AC3M DLX and it sounds amazing. Has deep, rich tone. They definitely need to be talked about more.
The fact that they sold so many budget guitars in the 70s. The stigma stuck..however the red, black label MIJ models are SOLID. REGARDLESS of the price. My first was a FG300(rosewood), and then CJ-818SB (jumbo)I got for 200 bucks. Sound AMAZING. The old GC classicals are solid GOLD.
I have a Yamaha Pacifica and it’s my most playable of my decent collection.
I need to try one of those
That Yamaha reminds me of a guitar I once owned. It was a deep-body Breedlove but I just couldn't play it for more than an hour, at best. My shoulder would be killing me from the overbody stretch I had to use. And forget about standing while playing, And yes, it's case was like that Yamaha, huge and heavy. Sorry, but players need to know downsides, too.
IMHO….a lot of people look at Yamaha’s being a lesser guitar. Just like the watch world think the same about Seiko being a lesser watch. Simply not true. I own yamaha guitars & a Toyota Tundra🤣
Yamaha guitars were also used by Bert Jansch, who was one of the most brilliant guitar player in the U.K in the past 40 years (also copied by Led Zeppelin and revered by Neil Young). You should check him out.
Had several Yamaha guitars, then landed a 50 year old Alverez 5024 dove. For me, this had a better low end sound. I now have gone with a Martin, to which Is the best sound of any of my former guitars.
Absolutely love my Yamaha ll16m. Better than my Eastman e6d that never gets played anymore.
Yamaha, whether they are cheap factory made or luthier items, they all have consistent quality. I have Yamaha Classical C40II, it is only $200, but it is good.
"Players" do like Yamaha guitars, both electric and acoustic models.
"Collectors" don't pay them much attention because they are inexpensive, and offer very little profit at resale time.
Perhaps if Yamaha were to triple their prices, collectors might join in the fun.
What makes a Yamaha valuable, is the person playing it!
Until recently, Yammy Electrics have been meh. Not bad, but just unexciting meh. Yamaha acoustics, however, have been very good and very affordable for their amount of goodness for ages. The company is first and foremost and instrument builder with a resume dating back to a time where men only registered black and white on their eyeball cones, so there is some considerable amount of conjecture that Yamaha just doesnt think they need to market blitz their brand in order to make consumer fefes more bouyant. Anyways, 3/4s of every 1 guitar players owns or owned or will own a Yamaha acoustic, and apparently Bochi the Rock just signed a deal to play the beans out of...a high end Pacifica, so there.
I listen to the homie playing the $200 guitar and Sean playing the $1600 guitar and they both sound great. You read Yamaha acoustic reviews and they are always glowing. From the Revstar to the beginner acoustic.
People always talk Squier for beginner electrics and they're great, but so are Pacificas.
All great stuff
Yeah I would choose a Yamaha Pacifica (or an Ibanez Gio for that matter) over a beginner Squier anyday.
I’m not sure I like the piezo sound but the modeled mics sound pretty much like a ‘normal’ acoustic sound over the video. IMO
I don't think it helps that it's always Yamaha's in Costco and in catalogue stores, and there is a huge proliferation of low spec models out there.
I personally play Sigma acoustics.
Elliott Smith played a Yamaha, so that's all I need to know.
This guy sings better than Justin Bieber.
He's so good!
Recently sold my FG820 (which was absolutely killer for the price) and got a used LS-16. It’s a solid wood acoustic and I am blown away at the sound/feel/build quality. They really make fantastic acoustics.
I really like the Yamaha... and a Taylor fan. Have both. My favorite is the Yamaha FG830. I take a lot of ribbing from the Martin players. If you are a bluegrass player the Yamaha FD830 is the poor mans version of the Martin. I am sure I could start an argument on why I like Yamaha over the Martin. Over the years and a collection of guitars... the best guitar is the one you will play. That is the fact of life. If I dropped all that money on a Martin is it be only for display. It would never be a player. That is a whole other story why!!! Next time at Sweetwater I will check out the Yamaha AC5R.... if I go without wife supervision... it most likely will follow me home!!!!! Sean fun video.
Haha, get yourself over there unsupervised quick!!
@@seandaniel23 Sean: Our adult son and I go. We are 2 hours away. His wife is not going the next trip either!!! So I am sure we will have (expensive) fun for the day!!! Two kids in a candy store.... and a charge card...
I've owned 3 yamaha acoustics snd ysed them all in studio for recording and live on stage! Great sound
The old Yamaha Acoustics are great. I use one for most the acoustic studio work I do, I leave my Martin D28 at home. The Yamaha just records better. No lack of love here.
Everything that Yamaha makes is top notch and the best deals out there dollar for dollar.
I just bought a new A3R a few weeks ago and I absolutely LOVE it. A whole lot of guitar for $1000!!!
AC5r is my best guitar.
I play Yamaha’s I love them they are all I can afford ! mike kelso Jr.
I thought Steve Martin played the Banjo. Really nice video guys
So yamaha started as a piano company. If you look at their logo it's actually 3 tuning folks. So yeah they know how to build an amazing guitar.
That’s interesting. Never realized that.
@seandaniel23 look on any yamaha and you will see 3 middle C tuning forks
Cheers buddy.... your good 👍
im sick of these stupid video titles😂 yamaha is in the top 5 selling guitar brands and the majority of jazz players use yamaha my japanese yamaha is lightyears better qiw;ity than any ibanez infact if you look up the quality dcale yamaha builds better guitars you dont see broken yanahas
I gave up on Yamahas back in the 70s. The action was always too high. I never tried them again.
actually yamaha is currently third overall in global guitar sales and ranked 1 in customers never selling thier yamahas thats shy u see none used
Love the sound of that guitar. That combined with that voice, wow really nice!
Proud Yamaha owner here. When purchasing my acoustic I went to my local guitar store and literally that was the first guitar I seen. Avoiding it and thinking Yamaha makes dirt bikes!!! I played all the different brands and I had some kind of issue with them. I went for the Yamaha in the end and was sold and bought on the spot❤
Hudson is so good!
Get a motorcycle and a guitar and a receiver all from the same company
We have two cheaper Yamaha guitars and love them!
Yamaha makes pretty good classical guitars . Or they used to anyway .
