She is the kind of artist with a rare quality: She doesnt have to concentrate on her music to perform beautifully. It' s almost as if her main purpose on stage is to deliver a message and react to the crowd. She is not by herself on stage but interacts with everybody. It must be fun for her and everyone being part of it - including the crowd!

A Confession: for so long, I resisted enjoying India Arie. I built walls made of bricks like, "too sentimental" and "others are doing it better." But those bricks were made of sugar on the shoreline. The sheer power of millions of years culminating in her spirit, combined with the sheer honesty of her words finally wore those walls away. Now my ears turn into happy little puppy dogs whenever her beautiful voice comes in the door. My eyes forget to look and now they listen to her light instead. I am so glad there's an artist who can do this-who can blow away all the thinking and leave the feeling clean and windswept. I am left with a true Islam-a surrendering-whenever her art comes my way, and I am truly thankful for a humanity that could bring India Arie into being.

I saw India.Arie perform at The Black Expo in Indianapolis back in 2000 or 2001. They gave out demos of her very first single. I was very young but I remember her sitting on a stool and playing her guitar. Loved her music way back then and still love it to this day...
