    to the person who does not like the dresses: these are Traditional dresses of Irish colleens (girls) which go back hundreds of years. This is part of the Irish culture. Before making lame comments, study up on the history of Ireland.

    @votevimto The dresses are a traditional type of dress for Irish dancing. They've been using similar dresses for centuries.

    @shellyhathaway Not always. My whole dance club has dresses the same length as that. It's standard in our club. They only get shorter when you start going to nationals and ADA. We have dresses that are an inch below the knee as well, but they're for displays and are semi-medieval. I enjoy displays so much more than competition. You girls dance great by the way!

    hey guys :) so, I know people are always thrown off by our dresses when they see them. yes, they are an EXTREMELY traditional cut and style. because each dress is made for the girl wearing it, it's hard at times to get uniform "waist" lines and length, but since we aren't competitive dancers and just do showcases, people usually don't get too distracted. I hope you still were able to enjoy the video, because we love to dance no matter what we're wearing :)

    as for the length of the dress: some are long, some are short. There is variation in the costume. The original dresses were wool & rather heavy, all hand made & embroidered. Now there are different fabrics used and they are more mass produced sometimes.

    to the one who asks if you can be Mexican & perform Irish dance: Of course. There is an Irish dance troupe in Brooklyn NY made up entirely of non-Irish girls & boys. They are black, East Indian & Latino. the teacher is from Ireland. They are called Celtic Dream. Look up on You Tube.

  • @rbsadler
    @rbsadler 12 лет назад

    @grangma I know these are traditional dresses, but there are PLENTY of traditional dresses with true waists. Older girls need the pleats to open at the true waist or you can't see their leg lines properly and it just isn't a flattering cut on girls with breasts. Also, I didn't say anything about their hair. I much prefer the natural hair to the 80s mega perm.

    it's actually not very difficult if you stay committed and practive. I've had lots of fun learning, but it's just a hobby for me, I'm not a competitive dancer. you should look for a school in your area!

  • @Sarbanda

    @smilibear17 Ehm, then you obviously don't listen to the music... Because these Irish tunes are definitely slipjigs. Perhaps you're used to other slipjig dances, that is a possibility. But then still, the tunes are slipjigs. The dances are called slipjigs, because de music is a slipjig rythm, savvy...
    I agree, beautiful dresses! But a wee bit shorter would do good, because then you can see the dancing better. It doesn't need to be really short, though. Just a wee bit. :-)

    A few things to say. @ DanniesWorld17: If you call those dresses long then you have never dirty danced in floor lenght formals and stelettos. Those dresses are short, okay?
    And also, lol part of one of the skips looked like the 'jerk'. Not to make fun of your very nice dancing, but it just reminded me of it. So all in all very good.

    Nicely done, good crosses and lifts but those dresses are way too long. you don't see much of your legs, so it kind of makes it look a bit sloppy even though it isn't.

  • @grangma
    @grangma 12 лет назад +1

    @rbsadler sry these are traditional irish dresses and real hair.....nowadays the young children wear gosh awful heavy fake wigs and they look like barbie dolls.......pretty disgusting......

  • @grangma
    @grangma 12 лет назад

    @grangma I know it seems like society is making everything trashy nowadays......I would not have thought that Irish people/families would approve of the way their children are exploited.....I know my parents would never have permitted the dresses or wigs........

  • @rbsadler
