I live in the UK and the only tax I can ever remember being scrapped was the tax on betting. Governments are in on spreading the cancer of gambling throughout society.
Similar to card breaking: pearl parties and ring bomb parties. People (women, as they are the target market) buy oysters or bath bombs with a pearl or ring of unknown value hidden inside. The hook is they might get a “rare” item supposedly worth a lot of money. There are always collections so you’re encouraged to keep buying to collect them all. The thrill is in the unboxing (opening an oyster or dissolving a bath bomb); the seller does this on camera during a live online “party” and sends the ring/pearl to the buyer. Additionally, the pearls are always virtually worthless and not a product of the oyster they’re sold with (they’re planted in a dead baby oyster). The ring “value” is said to be a retail price if the company sold them in a traditional store (of course they don’t). The rings are actually essentially worthless, maybe $5. No company is going to sell a ring worth hundreds or thousands inside of a bath bomb for $20. No company is going to put valuable pearls inside baby oysters and sell them for $20.
This is the first place I’ve seen/heard trading cards be referred to as gambling and it’s extremely refreshing. Around the pandemic I fell victim to this exact habit. At first it was about “collecting”, but once I pulled a few chase cards and saw how much I was able to sell them on eBay for I was hooked. I remember spending my last $20 to hopefully pull a chase just to be able to sell it. That’s addict behaviors and straight up gambling. Although I also like how you guys breakdown the difference for collecting. Being that I have many buddies who don’t have the same reaction that I do regarding the values. This is great content man and I love where you’re going with this channel. Keep up the hard work! 🔥
So neat that you all brought up card breaking! I as a problem gambler who may or may not have picked up a lot of traits from an older friend who had dealt with a terrible gambling addiction, used to talk about card breaking, bringing his newly delivered boxes into the shop, all the time and I never saw the writing on the wall as it being a form of gambling. Crazy how sneakily different methods of gambling can manifest
Abdullah reached out and specifically wanted to talk about that point, I never did card breaks so it's never been top of mind for me, but it's crazy how similar that pattern is to like buying a slot bonus
The video games/loot boxes I swear the fact they're targeting children is absolutely sinister. But genuinely can they not avoid it?! It's on the TV ads every fucking where.
I wish I never started gambling. It’s has destroyed my mental health, physical health and life. I have lost all hope I’ll ever get better. I have no support just family who are narcissistic and gas light me non stop. This life is torture.
The universe has pitiless indifference as to whether or not someone gambles or.not. That being said, we need to live our best lives on Earth for the sake of living our best lives, and gambling isn't an enhancer to our best lives in my opinion
On the topic of sports betting it is absolutely crazy how you can literally watch the algorithm (or people behind computers) manipulate users individually. I would be in Sports Betting Discords and read the convos about how a majority of the members on FanDuel would get profit boost bonuses but have them limited to a maximum $50 wager (these are your typical bettors wagering like $10-$20 at a time) meanwhile someone like I, who thrives off of bigger dopamine rushes (wagering, winning, and LOSING thousands at a time) am given bonuses with risk limits of $500 wagers because the algorithm recognizes that all I see is possible big $$$$ profit, to only then get absolutely liquidated. Sick work how these companies operate 😂 I’ve self-excluded from too many books to count

I love legally not paying taxes on my winnings.

Good to see someone talking about card breaks. The odds of getting a good card is so low now. Its essentially similar to slots.
100%

Can't avoid it, can only prepare for it ahead of time

I hope you see hope at the end of the tunnel out of all this and get the help you really need 🙂
I wish gambling 🎰 😪 didn't exist at all. It's beyond predatory 😢

No treatment for gambling because chasing the losses.
