    GREAT game! Thanks for explaning some of the flags. Highlights mostly cut referee's calls. // "We let the film tell US what WE'RE seeing." LOOK AGAIN: Pass across field to Aiyuk. You show pass routes at 4:41 running toward left corner. At 4:45 Brock's watching these routes - Aiyuk is covered/stops, but Kittle has #5 badly beat. NOT "fake point", I THINK Brock was signalling Kittle to all that green in left corner end zone, a straight ahead pass. Other 2 defenders thought Purdy was running. Frustrated Purdy turns lemons into lemonade by throwing AIYUK a dime. Purdy takes "blame" for the score.😏 Darn fine football, guys. One of the sweetest games this TEAM has played. Go Niners!

      With Deebo in the lineup, Shanahan's entire playbook is available. This puts tremendous pressure on the defense because Deebo can lineup anywhere at anytime.

    This was clearly Brock Purdy’s best day as a niner. In previous games although he had outstanding throws sometimes the ball was a little behind and the receivers would have to reach back a bit. His throws in this game were pinpoint perfection. The defense provided him with ample opportunities to show off his talents. I think we might be witnessing a historic talent.

    No one has pointed out one major difference between Purdy this year & last year: he steps up into the pocket vs. always running out of the pocket (typically to the left).
    Ask yourself, how was he able to develop this skill, while recovering from his elbow injury?

    12:47 Business decision? Maybe yes, but he also is responsible for protecting the outside & turning the play back inside to the teeth of the defense. He kept McCaffery from getting outside & up the sideline where he would have been gone. he did it again at 23:39. Considering he weighs 189 pounds and he had 550+ pounds of #71 & #89 coming right at him, he forced him back inside.

      I'm not exactly sure what Josh meant by business decision. What I saw, like you said, was a very smart player by not engaging directly and trying to make a play without being thrown to the ground by Trent, not ones but twice. It's also an excellent way to prevent injuries not only to himself if he was on the ground but also to Trent or other players.

    On that most "uniquenest" play: If the refs would have (rightfully) called a late hit penalty on Lawrence for tackling Thomas in the endzone, would that have offset the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty of running on the field and the TD would have been upheld? And I've never seen unsportsmanlike conduct be enforced in the middle of a play like that; even the on-air officiating expert said that they are typically handled as a dead-ball foul and enforced after the play is over. Still not convinced the refs got that play correct, especially ignoring the late hit by Lawrence.

    • @JoshBreakdowns
      @JoshBreakdowns  10 месяцев назад +2

      It's extremely rare but I think they acted correctly as the unsportsmanlike conduct prevented the official from officiating the play. In that instance, the late hit by Lawrence should have been enforced 15 yards after the play, which would've put the ball at the 34 yard line instead of the 19. Fortunately it all worked out in the end since the 49ers were able to score on the drive anyway 🙌

    • @Wolfeson28
      @Wolfeson28 10 месяцев назад +1

      The one thing the officials got wrong, imo, was what penalty they announced. When they referred to it as "unsportsmanlike conduct", it made no sense initially why that would negate the TD - my initial thought was someone had taunted, which would have been enforced on the following kickoff. If they'd just said "sideline infraction" - which is clearly what it was - then it would have been obvious what had happened and why it negated the TD.

    • @JoshBreakdowns

    The Jaguars defense may have been one of the top defenses in the NFL (statistically) coming into this game but they are extremely undisciplined, and Kyle knew just how to exploit that weakness. They over-pursued their gaps on run plays and jumped routes all game long. And that touchdown pass the Kittle was a perfect example of this. Much of the other mistakes were a bit more subtle than on this play, but I saw it from start to finish and it showed on the scoreboard in the end

    Josh! Oh boy did we need that win. Felt great. Deebo and Trent coming back coupled with an energized and talent increased defense, showed what we're capable of. Not too many people said it but some analyst mentioned that Jags were on a hot streak (5 straight Wins) and they ran into a brick wall. It was impressive.
    My question for you Josh is do you think Wilks coming down from the booth actually made a difference? Id like to hear your opinion on this.

      I suppose I could've said "Nobody open initially", which there wasn't to the side of the field he was reading. But you're definitely right in the sense that he should know he's got that crosser coming and if he can just hang tough in the pocket for a second longer he'll be able to dump that ball off. Maybe even get the first down.

      Fair enough. OK, here is my statement of the week. The best player acquisition we have made since McCaffrey has been Hargrave. His impact in the center of the line has been that of a boulder falling onto a coyote holding a cocktail umbrella. That Fred Warner Interception doesn't happen without Hargrave. Neither do the Young or Bosa Sacks. The man is a beast! @@JoshBreakdowns

    @HughHo 10 месяцев назад

    Great job as always with your analysis, Josh. So close to 10k! You'll get there this week, and it's well deserved.
    A couple of points:
    1) at 10:06 Wishnowsky's punt was even better than you gave him credit for: the "banana kick" spin that he puts on the ball actually curls it 10-20 yards in the air from the near sideline to the far sideline (or right to left as the receiver is watching it), which makes the receiver give up on fair catching it. Credit to Isaac Punts for his video pointing this out.
    2) at 17:44 in your breakdown of the Thomas strip fumble recovery and called-back TD, you showed again that you are a true fan of the game, and can give credit to the referees while others are going out of their minds yelling at the screen for the flag on the return. Fair is fair, and I love that you point this out every week. Cheers!

    I hope the 49ers sent tape to the nfl of Lawrence's personal foul and the olineman kicking Armstead in the knee. Both those should be fines and/or suspensions. Especially the o lineman as it is my understanding they have film of him doing this in the past.
