At 24:50. The way Luke incorrectly described Dana's incessant promotion of Jon Jones was alarming. Love the content here, and I'm a huge supporter Luke; but what are you not seeing here? Did you watch any of the press conferences with Dana becoming uncomfortable and anxious, as he is wildly promoting Jon Jones, to the point of working himself into a nervous fit? This is NOT normal behavior, and obviously NOBODY KNOWS why it is happening. To say that it's "normal" and business as usual for Dana to do this, is simply wrong. It's not normal. If you've followed Dana and Jon for more than a few years, you'll know that Dana never liked Jon, and always said disparaging things about Jon, including making jokes that Jon was probably scared of Francis Ngannou, and that he thought Jon lost to Dominick Reyes. The change of course by Dana and his wild antics in defending Jon, scream of something much larger at play. There is every indication that some form of quasi-blackmail is taking place, whether from Jon's agent (Richard) or through Disney, or through something heretofore unknown.
Satoshi Kon, bruv. Try Perfect Blue (Aronofosky is a fan, if that helps.) Try Paprika (not a fan of Nolan, but sort of an Inception before Inception). But, beyond Kon, as a film fan, I think you should try to at least watch Akira, as it's a classic beyond just being one of the most famous anime films to western audiences. Cheers, LT.
Hey Luke, Mike has a much longer video somewhere talking about the topic of that 2 min clip. He gives a LOT of caveats and acknowledges that people are not statistics, and that there are just slight differences in averages. I don’t think it is reprehensible to acknowledge statistical differences based on geological ancestry. Although that 2 min video is provocative. We acknowledge differences in physical strengths (long distance runners from Kenya/Ethiopia, strongmen from Europe). It isn’t crazy to acknowledge that differences in average scores on some tests would exist at a macro level. It doesn’t have to be interpreted in a eugenics kind of way and it is a complicated topic.
So what point was he trying to make when bringing up the averages? From your explanation it seems like he was working towards making a particular point then started backtracking.
@@RandomPerson-vu6yu I agree it was a pretty provocative video and I don’t like the way it was framed Just saying he has another much longer video on topic where he offers a lot of caveats Different groups have all kinds of physical differences such as height, hair, skin, genetic heart abnormalities and so on. It is not controversial that there are some cognitive differences between groups as well (different types of intelligence too). People are not statistical averages though and this was a major point I saw Mike make in his other video.
Any (particularly global) survey done in relation to IQ faces a host of confounding variables that just can't be all accounted for i.e. establishing causality is really, really hard (I do way simpler causal inference stuff in my own job, which is quite difficult--I can't imagine trying to handle something as complex as group differences in IQ), meaning any effort to link it to race-based genetics is dubious. Even beyond the generic issues associated with sampling for something as large-scale as this, actual implementation of research designs on this topic introduce problems. For one, inadequate nutrition (especially during childhood) nukes your IQ--it isn't surprising, then, that the regions with lower recorded IQs also tend to be those that are struggling with food insecurity or even famines. Good luck setting up a constant variable which can account for that. I think Mike should stick to what he knows when making public videos. It's one thing to share ideas in private with other people that can directly question your beliefs (this could also apply to other mediums like online forums, comment sections, etc, anywhere that a direct back-and-forth is possible). Creating one-way public content demands far more responsibility, especially for someone with as large an audience as Mike. It's a shame, because he generally seems like a reasonable guy, but I suppose it demonstrates how anyone can buy into bad ideas. Also, I realize that you aren't necessarily defending what Mike said--much of what I wrote here is more for other people to consider.
@@prandz420 Sure you can say he was making a comment on statistics. But normally when people start spewing race based intelligence statistics there’s a certain agenda being pushed. Maybe there wasn’t any malicious intent but it was definitely reckless. You can’t speak about a historically weaponized talking point and then throw your hands up and act like you’re just reading out random stats that don’t have real world implications. He’s very respected and has the ability to plant seeds in the minds of his audience, so I don’t think this should be brought up so casually. I don’t blame Luke for distancing himself.
The idea of saying because Luke deeply enjoys Ghibli films he will naturally enjoy all other forms of anime (for example I remember someone telling him to watch Attack on Titan) is ridiculous. If someone enjoys Raging Bull it doesn’t mean they’ll love Mad Max Fury road. Both are great films, but their only similarity is medium-they’re on film. Japanese animation is a MEDIUM with some potential stylistic similarities, but is not a genre. Suggesting something radically different in the same medium is no guarantee.

DDP said facts that COULD be taken the wrong way. Maybe he was careless with his language. But Izzy and Kamaru have explicitly made it about race. Izzy: Screaming the N word at Dricus. Calling him a cracker. A pink pig. Saying a genetics test would show him he’s not African. Kamaru: “Just coz your parents moved there and you grew up there…that doesn’t make you African” One side said facts in a way that could be taken poorly. The other side EXPLICITLY made racial comments. And yet it’s Izzy who’s portrayed as the victim and Dricus as the morally culpable one

I hope so too. My guess is that he would like it quite a bit. It's hard to pick a favorite from Miyazaki's work (too much greatness) but Porco Rosso is a very special piece, probably because it was a bit of a personal introspection for Miyazaki. I think it will resonate with Luke (I am his or around his age) and the themes of time passing you by, regret and self-forgiveness really do for me.
Regarding white people in South Africa bringing Dutch language there and being outsiders, after how many hundreds of years do people become insiders? Are white Americans insiders in the USA? These people also came from outside, brought English with them and committed genocide on the humans already living there. If White people in the US can consider US to be home and belong to the continent and white people in Australia can consider Australia home and belong to the continent (They also killed off most of the aboriginals in Australia) then why can't white people in South Africa call the country and the continent home? What's the difference?
@@willemp6330 agreed. After some people have lived in a place for a couple of generations, in my view, they should be considered insiders. It shouldn’t matter if they were colonists or just immigrants. if a third generation Japanese American is an American then a third generation white person in Africa should be African. People need to stop equating Europe with White and Africa with Black. Most places in the world are multi ethnic and Multi racial to varying degrees. There are non-white people who call Europe and America home and there are non-black people who call Africa home.
There are not still not large groups of white people in "AFRICA." There are about 5 -7 million white people in South Africa. I think they have the largest population of former Dutch and other european immigrants in sub-saharan Africa. I believe the whites are considered African in South Africa. But in the other countries while there are groups of european/middle eastern people, there is not as much as in South Africa. When I have travelled throughout the African continent (Senegal, Gambia, Nigeria,, Zambia) most black africans did not consider non whites as African no matter how long they had been there. one thing about the brain is it's highly adaptive to stimulus (creating new neural pathways based on what is demanded of it). there are definitely hard limits on IQ genetically but there's quite a bit of fluidity if you were to compare a child who doesn't stimulate their brain and one who does constantly. proving ties between race and IQ seems very difficult, how do you factor in things like culture and how a child is stimulated while growing up until full brain maturity.
@@genkimachina The scientific consensus is that race isn't rooted in genetics/biology though; it's a social construct. So yeah, anyone arguing about how "different races have different levels of intelligence" is either ignorant or is choosing to regurgitate Nazi talking points.
@AndOneMoreThing the scientific concensus doesn't even explore these ideas because they are too taboo. It is funny to make the accusation of nazi talking points since people regularly point to Ashkanazi Jews as being the smartest on average, lol. My point about Aldo 1:35:14 is more so that his skill set, technical ability, opponents, and the changes he has made in his career and fight style in spite of his chin giving out on him makes him the best fighter ever. maybe not the best results but the fact that you can argue he’s much more skilled at 37-38 than he was when he was 24-28 separates him from just about any other fighter. this is all AFTER he had a HOF run in wec and the early featherweight ufc days. not to mention he fought in the two best divisions and fought all killers. jon jones made a career in fighting middleweights and overall shitty fighters.
You could say early 145 in WEC was weak division and still was in the early ufc. It's kinda like as much as I love bj penn. That era was bad. I get he suffered some injuries in his career and the fact that he changed his style and became super technical is crazy. @@tgo007 you’re definitely right about the guys you mentioned there, but i’d argue jose’s skills were up to par with a lot of the elite level guys he was facing (merab, petr, and even volk for moments in that fight) but his body gave out due to the abuse he took for well over 12-15 years at that point. what makes him special imo is that he evolved his game to make up for his fragile chin (developing an amazing jab, improved defence, combating calf kicks in unique ways relative to other mma fighters, etc.). Regarding the point of elite guys, and the previous generation not being as good, id argue any of the aforementioned fighters are better than most of jon’s opponents (gane, reyes, santos, the ghost of rua and machida, smith, etc). but also i should mention i’m very biased and i am a jose aldo apologist. i use superlatives and stuff because i really feel he doesnt get the appreciation he deserves. Please take the time to actually understand this issue, because your response in this video suggests you'd rather throw Mike under the bus than actually educate yourself on the topic. This is a nuanced topic and it's unacceptable to disavow Mike on the basis of your ignorance.
I grew up in PG County, DC and Suburban Maryland. The single most obvious thing that people simply do not understand about race and ethnicity is: If you live and grow up in an area that has wealth and predominant color dispersion... you quickly realize that nothing is about "race." It's about intellect, industry, work ethic, moral fiber, tradition, parents, education, and resources. When you grow up in a black city with money, and are surrounded by plenty of wealthy, sharp, hard working black people... you realize that the world is about social class and opportunity, whether in the professional middle or upper classes. Generally speaking... Poor people breed more poor people, and by and large, poor people are less intellectual and too often dumber and less disciplined. And as it happens, for a variety of reasons, there are many people who are poor and non-white. But while it may be a "genetic thing," it is definitely not a "race thing." Poor people breed poor people, and the middle/upper class breed themselves, too. Race really means nothing. Cultures... a little bit. But then, being middle or upper class in America is a culture in itself... and one wildly different from growing up poor. The black professionals and upper class in the DC Metro & Maryland area are just not as high visibility as all the menacing criminals who sell papers and clicks. But they are just as real... and are living proof that race and ethnicity is not real. Whether your parent/s are poor, undisciplined, and uneducated is a much, much bigger factor in the "bell curve."

Hey Luke,
Mike has a much longer video somewhere talking about the topic of that 2 min clip.
@@RandomPerson-vu6yu I agree it was a pretty provocative video and I don’t like the way it was framed
Just saying he has another much longer video on topic where he offers a lot of caveats
Different groups have all kinds of physical differences such as height, hair, skin, genetic heart abnormalities and so on. It is not controversial that there are some cognitive differences between groups as well (different types of intelligence too). People are not statistical averages though and this was a major point I saw Mike make in his other video.
@@RandomPerson-vu6yu making a comment on statistics shouldn’t necessarily be seen as trying to make a point or a political statement
Suggesting something radically different in the same medium is no guarantee.
props Luke. enjoyed this one

@@Aetheretic Hahaha same for me. The delivery on 'self-pity' kicks so hard. I love the track. Yesterday my brother said, that he had never heard anything like this before. I have to agree.
Kamaru: “Just coz your parents moved there and you grew up there…that doesn’t make you African”
One side said facts in a way that could be taken poorly. The other side EXPLICITLY made racial comments. And yet it’s Izzy who’s portrayed as the victim and Dricus as the morally culpable one

I've been a fan of Luke since the promotional malpractice/mma beat days and a life long anime fan. Donks need to just be happy he's checking out our beloved Japanese cartoons at all. Dudes got a busy job and a kid and has already watched half of the ghibli catalog, how can you not be happy with that? There's no point rushing people to enjoy things. That said, I am excited for him to watch porco rosso eventually.

There’s no difference. If that’s the case native Americans are also the only real Americans right?
Maybe things will change in the future.

one thing about the brain is it's highly adaptive to stimulus (creating new neural pathways based on what is demanded of it). there are definitely hard limits on IQ genetically but there's quite a bit of fluidity if you were to compare a child who doesn't stimulate their brain and one who does constantly. proving ties between race and IQ seems very difficult, how do you factor in things like culture and how a child is stimulated while growing up until full brain maturity.

Someone who thinks blocking an overhand right. Adesanya chose not go block in round 4. I blame Drake.

We’ve seen how dangerous this kind of thinking can be, like what happened during World War II.
Jon never won it from Francis. Jones v miocic means nothing.
Jones v Aspinall means nothing technically, other then it’d be interesting to see if he beats jones.
Really. We need ASPINALL V NGANNOU!!
1:47:57 Luke’s abruptness made me laugh here
Luke
Great shows brother
Hope you see this question
Do you believe American fans will finally give Ilia Topuria the credit he deserves after beating Max Holloway?
After he gets destroyed by Holloway he will still be a good fighter. Correct
Caio Borralho is the next belt holder at 185lbs.
28:54 guy who asked this question. Watch Heavy hands
The problem you're not getting is at the center of inflation and monopolies is government. Government is the root to most problems. People forget Corporations is a product of government, not the free market.
On what planet?
Although Ghost in a the Shell is a given, I am really not sure if Luke would like it. The visuals and are stunning, needless to say, BUT I could see him having no patience for all the philosophical-tech babbling 😄
Wtf are they lancing brother, we dont lance cellulitis. You got a secondary abscess due to not resting/elevating your feet! Lucky you didn't get septic and require IV antibiotics and admission.
Luke out here defending DC like he doesn't say the same shit about Philly lol love ya bro but philly's the shit
Everybody be willing to fight early in they're career...
Luke go see Opeth if you want a transcendant live experience.
Can anyone help what was the name of the book Luke just got?
To me it's weird to celebrate Mexican independence day in The US. If it's going to be in The US you'd think it would be in California or Texas
Do you also think it's weird to celebrate St. Patrick's day in the US? Or is that one fine and dandy?
@@ryannath85what UFC ever have they celebrated St Patrick's Day?
@@ryannath85 so would it be normal to have a sporting event in another country celebrating American Independence?
@@ryannath85 I'm talking about a sporting event. If everyday people in the United States want to celebrate it that's one thing.
I don't recognize St Patrick's Day. I honestly have no idea what's it about and never cared enough to find out.
I just find it weird to hold a sporting event like that. You'd think they'd have it in Mexico. Just like I'd expect a sporting event to celebrate American Independence to be in you know America.
@@jvanek8512 When they had McGregor cards with other Irish fighters you could say they were "celebrating" Irish fighters in the US. But I was mostly talking about celebrating St. Patrick's day nationwide not just in sports. But you didn't answer my question. Do you have a problem with celebrating St. Patrick's day in the US also? You seem hesitant to give your answer.
don't watch Zambidis vs. Chahid before you go to sleep unless you want to stay up for 3 more hours. jesus.
Mononoke is so good
one of the best movies of all time
How much is anybody going to be fighting with a 20 plus year career?
its hilarious the people crying about noche not having a mexican main event when they are the exact same people who would be crying about the grasso and shev being a ppv main event.
Mike Israeleti spat facts
Tell me you're a Nazi without telling me you're a Nazi.
Holy shit man. Do you really need to save the exact same sentence 20 times in a row to answer each question?
1:34:10 is completely wrong lol Islam has 3 defenses, which puts him in a 5-way tie for the record for LW defenses. Islam is much much closer to being the GOAT of his weight class than any other current champ
Love to see ddp vs anatoly tokov
"to the Nth degree" = DRINK! 😂
Dude reads the first question and blabbers and makes non-points for 6mins after, so you can skip that, you’re welcome
How does what Dricus said have anything to do with race. History of South Africa and ‘Dutch’ explorers happened 1653. Do white Americans think they are American? It’s crazy how little people know and yet speak as if they do. And in one breath saying how impressive Alexa Grasso is because she is fighting out of Mexico. I like Luke and MK, but this topic really frustrates me.
Have you ever heard of apartheid? Because that stopped in the 90’s buddy
@@connordrook5720 what does that have to do with Dricus? Do you think all white South African are responsible for apartheid? My point was about the history of explorers and the time they have been there. Luke said Dricus was responsible for the racial undertones, and if you know any South Africans , you would know what he said was just the fact he resides from the continent. Sport in SA unites all , Nelson Mandela said, “Sport has the power to change the world, it has the power to inspire.” “It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.”
Lol here for the algorithm 🍿

What did Mike Israetel say?
That race difference is real in every aspect, but it's marginal.
@@michaelblue7852 Hmm doesn’t seem that controversial, why is Luke clutching pearls.
@@akshaysingh894 I think for mainstream and leftist that is extremely controversial. We can talk about physical differences, but IQ is no-go zone.
@@michaelblue7852Controversial? Hmm, i wonder why. Could it be that hundreds of years of slavery, segregation and ethnic cleansing in different parts of the world were justified on the lie that certain races were intellectualy inferior to others? The very few studies on race and IQ have been widely discredited by academics in the field, the literature does not show what mike thinks it does.
@@MomoWax1000 I don't think that how Africans justified selling their own people as salves.

Any word luke if vadim nemkov is still under contract with pfl slash bellator
Whats happened the MC??? 3 weeks no nee video?
Luke, what about race and intelligence did Mike Israetel say that was controversial?
You also mentioned Charles Murray. If you beleive that anything said in the Bell Curve was controversial, then I dont think you have an adequate understanding of the topic. It should be noted this was also only a small paragraph in that book, and his cancellation has been acknowledged to have been a mistake retrospectively.
The only critique that can be made, and i agree with this, is WHY you would take an interest in this subject. It seems that there isnt any value in it and highlighting differences doesnt stand to gain anything positive. A move towards treating race in the same way as eye colour seems a more positve way to go.
Thanks.
Sean beat DDP all ready so kinda anti climatic.
