1:31:40 With respect to practicing in the hopes of achieving perfection, something I've noticed as I've tried picking up new skills over time is that it's specifically practicing with as clear a goal in mind as possible that yields the fastest results for me. fantastic conversation! Thank you, Lex! Your podcast is a real pleasure and I’m glad to see its continued growth and success. You have a fantastic mix of guests and the conversations that I’ve seen have never been boring. Roger has always been some thing of an austere figure, so it was good to finally see the human side of him a bit. Thank you for this conversation!
After posting this comment I received a reply from someone using lex's name wanting to use Telegram to talk about the episode. When I responded they asked my opinion about the episode then it quickly turned into an attempt to pull me into some crypto thing. Anyone else get this?
My favourite podcast ever....its as simple as that.....Lex is the best interviewer and Roger is the goat. I learned so much from this conversation, so much on Jiu Jitsu, dedication to your art, mindset, the list goes on. Epic.
@roger. You are such a gentleman! I started last year and you have trained with my professor. You are an inspiration. I have and watch your videos and the breadth of understanding you have is amazing.. The DETAILS!! You are an artist. @LEX Your interviewing game has gone up in my book. This interview, Danaher, Tabell, Guido von Rossum and Howard are some of the most amazing interviews. I didn't think Geeks and Combat sports enthusiasts were a known combination. Thank you and Rogan for showing me that we are not alone!
Great stuff, as always, Lex. I've been a huge MMA fan since its inception, but have only recently become interested in the world of competitive jiu-jitsu. As such, I never knew much about Roger or his jiu-jitsu exploits (obviously, I knew plenty about the Gracie name in MMA), so this interview was really enlightening for me. This man clearly has greatness oozing from every pore, and it was hugely inspirational hearing him speak. Much love to you both, and thanks again for the great content!
Positive energy emits from him with every laugh and smile, in a comforting way, almost prophet-like. Is it his way that made him a great martial artist, or did the training make him this way?
Thank you Lex! Listening to this with my teenage boys is not only a rewarding moment but just them having an opportunities to hear men talk about NOT quitting is priceless. I trained with Roger and Nic at Grapplers Retreat two months ago and it was incredible! I'm going next year too. If you get the chance to go there Alex who owns/runs it an awesome guy. The dream he has created is definitely along the lines of what I hear you saying about creating more positive impactful things/events in your future. THANK YOU!
I am in my 7th decade on this spinning ball. While attending an all boys school - jacket / tie / hush puppies - in the 60's, I recall the Dean Of Discipline hooking 2 fingers into the back collar of your shirt and twisting. Immediate & total control. I understand that Lex & Joe are most likely talking about frontal tie control but the 2 finger back of collar technique is deadly. Try it in practice. You will love it. Lex - you are an inspiration to this old fart.
Tips for Lex: - You are interested in the complexity of Rogers game, and that is the breath and depth of certain movements that can be represented as a network. Watch Bren Varizoglu's video on learning BJJ, or Kit Dale's videos. - You are also interested in speeding up the learning process of BJJ. - BJJ is similar to chess as you know. Today, in chess, the game can be analysed by the AI to give us feedback on the mistakes, blunders, and inaccuracies. Similar case is with BJJ. If you watch Keenan Cornelious's video where he guides the student when he spars with a higher belt in a given position you will see a live analysis of the player's game. - We need to systemize the learning process using these ideas. And hopefully you can talk to Danaher, Roger, or anyone of a high calibre and tell us how to best do it
As a new whitebelt , im in alot of bad spots . Almost the lightest guy in the room . That doesnt help . But man when im in bad positions . I dont hate it . I think mannn i wanna get outta this . But the problem is my lungs are no good after 12 years of smoking . I gas out in 5 minutes ( a round) . I get angry at myself for smoking but still havent stopped . I will one day . But i said that last year too . Jiu jitsu is awesome ! I love it . Makes me wanna get healthy quickly while im still young .
Great to see Roger's emphasis on practicing on resisting opponents, this is a fundamental reason why jiu jitsu is what it is today, because they were the practicioners winning all the challenge matches as they predominantly practiced 'randori', live sparring, on resisting opponents. Me personally, no warm up, 10 mins of drilling, 50 mins or 100 mins of live rolling with no rest is the best. If you roll at a controlled pace it's good
I've seen few clips here and there but this made me subscribe. I admire Roger's game, I will try my best to learn and practice Jiu-jitsu the way he did.. ooss!🤙
You gotta love the times where Lex tries to come up with a counter-argument or pose a question to a statement Roger makes, and he just answers with "Doesn't matter" or "I don't care." And coming from him, they're completely valid.
Really enjoy these interviews, Lex. Questions are well thought out. You've mentioned Renzo Gracie and Bas Rutten many times on the podcast. Any chance of getting them on?
Good lesson for life here: focus on your strengths, if you want to be tough. But you'll only be tough, you won't be great. If you want to be great, you MUST focus on your weaknesses. Remove or diminish all of your weaknesses - bring up your skill level in those areas - and you could be great. You'll never be great if you don't train or work on your weaknesses. Never.

So much good stuff-
Perfection!
Thanks Lex!!
Gracie admits to listening to your podcast 🤯🤯🤯 lex made it
fantastic conversation!
This is the best interview of a world champion athlete I have ever seen.
Thank you. I explored a new world and learned about mindset about calmness and inner strength.
Lex has easily the best podcast out there. Its not even remotely close.
Another fantastic interview. The courage that Lex has in opening up about himself adds an incredible amount to the depth of the conversation.
Please never stop doing interviews with combat athletes, these interviews show another side which is really insightful.
This is the one I have been waiting for and it went flawlessly!
What happened to the Gordon Ryan and roger rolling footage? I thought I remembered you saying you were gonna upload that
Best thing I've ever seen in a long time. Thanks so much!! The road to greatness is to keep your head down, believe in yourself, and grind
Oh man, cannot wait to hear this whole thing
Thank you Lex and Roger! Looking forward to this 1
What a beautiful interview / BJJ fight breakdown / lesson! Thank you both!!
Even Chuck Norris learned something here. I submit that this is the best interview you've done Lex.

His humility shines! Also great insights to use In any endeavor.
Tips for Lex:
- You are interested in the complexity of Rogers game, and that is the breath and depth of certain movements that can be represented as a network.
And hopefully you can talk to Danaher, Roger, or anyone of a high calibre and tell us how to best do it
I know nothing about BJJ, but I found this interview fascinating.
"The more you think, the more nervous you're gonna get." Absolutely.

00:25:31 I don't know if you've used this split cut before, but it's great!
If you roll at a controlled pace it's good
Yo Lex, I just learned you are 39 years old. You look absolutely incredible man
I've seen few clips here and there but this made me subscribe.
Thank you.
The level of detail (if you read between the lines and watch his body movement is 🔥🔥🔥. Lex is Killing it!!!!
Thanks this helped with some of my struggles. Believe it or not! Keep on keeping on Lex!
Starting watching last night before my como. Now relaxing with my 🥈 silver 💀 and finishing this great convo.
Great job 👏🏻 Roger Gracie the best of all time Gi and NoGi‼️🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Roger had a seminar at my gym in October at Charles Gracie, dude is really humble and well thought out. Hes a fucking giant as well
Amazing listen! Amazing run Gracie has had aswell.
Really enjoy these interviews, Lex. Questions are well thought out. You've mentioned Renzo Gracie and Bas Rutten many times on the podcast. Any chance of getting them on?
Following the development of this podcast over the last years was something to behold. Just amazing. Keep it up Lex
Never.
Such a great interview. This was awesome to watch. Love the Pod Lex, thank you .
This continues to be the greatest podcast on Earth
Brilliant interview and great guest 🚀
🔥 🐐😱 Who’s Lex gonna interview next?
Wow - phenomenal points about defence at 16mins. Allow ourselves to be there.
