    Should use cement board for the bathroom and you absolutely need to redo the area where the drywall meets the tub. That isn't going to work out, it'll be soaked and filled with mold within a couple weeks. Need to see how that is done properly.

    • @stoneinc2240
      @stoneinc2240 3 года назад +3

      Was just going to say that. The lip on tub is there for a reason! You rock to the lip then fill gap with the thinset mortar when you tile. Also absolutly do not use regular gypsum board around the tub even with the schluter you thinset it on and the moisture in thinset will create issues with the drywall later on

    • @flyingember
      @flyingember 3 года назад

      If they need to go thinner, Wedi Board could be a good alternative. It comes super thin, like 1/8” thick. It’s foam and fiberglass. We did a 2x4 niche and used some as the backer to not lose much thickness in the back.

      I actually have mold toxicity. It’s a horrible illness. In fact, I watch them and marvel at their strength and endurance because my body would never be able to commit to this. I can only tolerate meat and non-starchy veggies (no grains, legumes, sugar, seeds, nuts, dairy or eggs), I react to chemical smells and I fatigue easily.
      I have a great doctor and after four years, I am slowly healing and detoxifying the mold... but it is no joke!

  • @kevin0007
    @kevin0007 3 года назад

    Like your house! Make some large T-shaped poles to hold drywall to the ceiling. Make them a bit longer than the distance from floor to ceiling and you can jam them in once the piece is in position. Much safer and easier than having your wife climb the ladder the way she needs to. Also much steadier. When you first set the sheet up you'll need to use the ladder, but your wife can use the lifting pole. Then you steady your end with the second pole. (or rent or buy a drywall lifter - super easy 1-person task!) Regular drywall around the shower should be fine in your installation since you're using the Schluter products and tile. Make your shower pipe stick out a lot longer.... you're both tall and will appreciate it later. And that pocket door is a great idea for that location. You two are an awesome couple and are doing a great job with this video series. Once it's all done you can say just like Hollywood: "it's in the can"!!!! Literally!

I added access with shut offs to the shower and lavatory as well as in the kitchen.. because hiking a half mile out to shut off water in an emergency really stinks and you shut off water to the entire house..

    Heat the end of a paper clip until it's red hot and poke it through the top of your toenail to relieve the pressure. My dad was a cabinet maker and smacked his thumb nail with a hammer and that's exactly what the doctor did.
