Spencer - you are an excellent problem solver and an amazing man! I’m older than your parents and I must commend you on your temperament, your sense of humor and your tenacity and perseverance. You are an excellent husband and father and precisely the kind of man other young men should aspire to be like! You rock!
I design water treatment facilities for a living in Texas primarily. I suggest not only insulation in your pump house, but also either a safe electric heater, and or also heat trace tape. It's kinda like the electrical wires found in an electric heat blanket. They come with a temperature sensor so it will turn on automatically when it gets cold, and it will prevent your pipes and anything else from freezing that you stick it to/wrap it around. Being from Michigan originally, it's truly a life saver.
Good idea to start working on cold weather contingency plans. Make a list of things that could go wrong, and then ways to deal with each one (alternate sources of heat, draining water from pipes, etc).
We have a pump shed about the same size. We are farther south (Lafayette LA) but we also recently got our butts kicked with the same deep freeze. Over the years, we have learned that no amount of incandescent will do the trick for a pump house this big, instead, we have a heater plugged into a receptacle. If it's going to be a deep freeze, an 800w heater with a thermostat set to kick it on at 40°F works for us (and made it through this recent cold front).
Was also going to recommend incandescent bulbs, had a pump dog house size. Lived in Holland Ohio. Agree not as big as your pump house we only ran one light bulb during the winter but may have to agree a heater maybe a better solution and also insulate. You just have to keep it from freezing. You'll figure it out and a lot of people will give feedback. Hope your internet is back up!! Love the channel! Dale from Phoenix Arizona.
Spencer is so smart. It's not often you find a man this smart that is also so kind, gentle and dedicated to his family. Y'all make such a sweet family.
I’m from northern Canada, here are a couple of cold weather tips for the future. For your water tanks you can get some stock tank heaters from a cattle supply store, they float in the tank and provide just enough heat to keep the water from freezing. For your water lines you can get something called heat tape. It is flexible insulated wire that you wrap in a spiral around the water lines. From a farm supply that carries stuff for chickens you can get heat lamps that pump out a ton of heat. One would be enough for your pump house. One final tip, if you know it is going to freeze and you are worried about running out of power you can just crack open a tap enough for a slow drip of water, about 1 drop a second is enough. It will relieve the pressure as the water freezes and keep the pipes from bursting. Best of luck in the future, love your channel. Keep up the good work eh? Lol. Cheers
I thought of the floating stock tank heaters too. When we had beef cattle, we had no choice but to use them. At least in a worst case scenario, we could open the gates and let them drink from the stream in the pasture. We were luck, each side of the farm had a stream and the building site was in the middle about 30 feet higher so we never got flooded. We did lose our driveway once though, 18 inches of rain in 36 hours, what a mess putting it back in.
What impresses me with you guys is you have stressed from the beginning that you haven't a clue as to building your homestead, but you had the determination and devotion to keep plugging away. Another thing that I love about you is that you don't constantly whine about the setbacks nor do you blame anyone as so many other bloggers do. Instead, you understand that a lot of people are facing all the damage from the horrible weather. You roll with the punches even when it's quite the setback. People, especially young people can learn so much from you, and hard work and determination are what it takes to make your dreams come true. Spencer, don't be so hard on yourself. You accomplishing more than what most men would ever do. You two make a great team and work so well together. God bless you guys.
You can get water tank heaters for use in cattle water tanks, they have them at TSC and other ranch and farm stores. They seat at the bottom and keep the water just above freezing, this will help with the tanks and the lines going into the pump house.
Hi guys, unfortunately this happens every winter in the UK. What we can fit over here to an outbuilding is a small greenhouse frost-stat bar heater that will come on automatically when the temperature gets down to about three degrees above freezing. That should resolve the problem going forward. Live long and prosper y’all! 👍🇬🇧
As a retired HVAC engineer I must agree with Phil on his proposed solution. A thermostatic solution will come on automatically and you won't have to worry about anything. Insulate your pump house and add the heater and problem solved. Related to the statement that the storm in Texas was a 100 year storm well don't believe them. We had a 100 year hurricane about 12 years ago up here in NE and my dock at the lake floated away. After grabbing it and putting it back in place we had another 100 year hurricane one week later and my dock started to float away again. This time I put on my chest waders and I lassoed my dock before it floated away. I finally smartened up and permanently attached my dock.
What about a circulation pump in addition to the thermostat controlled heater. I honestly expected to see broken pipes in the house too. However if there is a parallel water circuit that allows water to be pushed through most of the house and then back to the tanks, it may be able to help the pipes that are not in range of the heat source.

One of the biggest things is you put it together and you knew how to fix it. You are one of the hardest working guys I know. You two work hard together but you always seem to have time for your little lady. I'm so happy for you guys.
Something to be grateful for in this Pandemic: I "met" you great people in my first Quarentin ever last September, as I had to much time!! You make me smile!!
I'm from Minnesota and we're used to insulating buildings and pump rooms I'm proud of you for doing that incandescent lights work fine but a little heater that can circulate the heat might be a little bit better.
Your sweet little girl is really getting vocal...working on those sounds. You guys are fun to watch, but time shows up with the little ones. Thank you for sharing your rough times as well as the good ones. You live, you learn, but it sure can be painful at times (says this 65-year-old who has made many mistakes).
I was thinking to myself the whole time please tell me he's going to winterize the pump house.... I'm so happy you're deciding to do that! Can't wait to see what your next video is going to be!
love to see two young kids doing everything learning from their mistakes, and the best way to learn common sense. now they know next time a good hard freeze is coming to drain all the pipes especially at the water pump odd house. keep up the great work kids
One of the reasons you guys survive just having a sense of humor and a wonderful disposition about all the things that can/do go wrong. I don’t get a chance to watch everyone of your releases, but I always enjoy the ones that I do. Wishing you health safety and joy.
Be thankful that you lost no one, that no one was injured, and that you have the means to be able to financially fix these things. Many in America cannot right now...take care, be safe!
After all that you have both learned throughout this major project, you should get a degree in home building, with special honors. You have inspired me into building a small shed for my emergency generator. Yes, it is nothing compared to what you have accomplished, but it would not have happened without your inspiration. You both really, really rock!
Seeing you guys go through a rough time and still keep up good spirits, is an amazing experience for me and really inspirational. Every week watching new video's from you is a blessing! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Lots of love, as always, from the Netherlands ❤
That you both can laugh together through what has been an extremely arduous time is terrific. I have loved watching your progress and really look forward to each new video. Stay safe .
The little one is close to being a toddler...seeing her walking off....nothing is safe with her mobility! It is said that we spend the first 18 months teaching them to walk and talk and the next 18 years telling them to "Be quiet!" and "Sit down!"
So glad you are up and running again. We have lived in Texas over 40 years, we have never experienced these low temperatures for so many days in a row. Our daughter's pump house froze also. Almost$1000 damage😪
I was just thinking how lucky that little girl and the new baby to come were to have you guys as parents. Happy people make happy people. You are good for the soul.
You know what’s nice about going viral on RUclips and doing whatever it is that you like to do or just trying to build a family and a home either in a homesteading way or in another way. You get free information from your followers. I have a couple other RUclips channels that I follow in their homesteading. I would like to thank your followers for coming on here and helping you guys out with the knowledge that they have, it’s such a blessing. So you had a little hiccup, so what you did was move forward, slap those boots back on and got back to work. That’s the only way to do it, just like falling off a horse you get right back on. Blessings to the both of you and your babies. Looking forward to your next video with the trials and tribulations.🙏🏼♥️

"That's what happens when you work too fast". I feel ya Spencer! However, there is nothing that you can't do...both you and your wife! Great job guys! Keep up the good work!
Try using a dedicated heater inside of the pump house, as well insulating the walls. This will keep that room at a even temperature espl. when the temperature drops below freezing.
All I had was a pipe in the attic that burst and that was enough. And it had its own shutoff valve, so after I got the valve to work, at least the rest of the house had water, just not the refrigerator ice maker/dispenser. Really takes a lot to be able to face the types of problems you have faced, and be able to smile about it. Family can stand up to almost anything and survive. Continue to love and support each other, and you will be able to weather the storm. Carry on!
Spencer your intelligence amazes me! I know you do a lot of research on things but that’s so much to learn and understand. Most people could watch videos and read up on stuff and not comprehend a thing. Impressive!!
I was without water for 6 weeks with just my young kids (single mom). It froze underground.....thankfully I had a creek I could haul water to flush the toilet. I ran a hose from the pump into the basement and we could use water for short periods at a time. Afterwards, I would have to go pull the hose in before it froze. It was extremely difficult and I was working full time. I feel your pain and frustration ......So good you can fix those kind of things.
Who else remembers the containers were EVERGREEN, and then realizes that's the company whose container ship was stranded in the Suez Canal a couple of days ago.
Hey kids, as a country people with a well house for our pump and yes our well house looks just like yours, ours is insulated on the walls and ceiling. Also in the winter we put a heat lamp in it and turn it on when the temperature drops low. It has never frozen since we did that. Love your episodes and wish you all good luck on your home. You both remind us of when we restored our old farm house. It was due to be condemned when we bought it. Now we are so proud of how our hard work paid off.
Yep, it's a case of beware of what you wish for lol. When we had our snow, the first thing I said was, "Yea, snow!" because I live above Fort Worth, Texas and I've hardly ever seen snow, just ice, in the 18 years that I've lived in Texas. Then the electricity went down for almost three days and I told my mom that, if I ever say I want snow again, to hit me over the head with something (which she'd never do lol). The first thing we did after the electricity came back on was take showers also and those shower felt fantastic. Then it was getting the laundry done. But we were luckier than the people who unfortunately lost their lives during this time. It really makes you feel grateful for what you have.
I know this is after the fact, but a suggestion I could make on your water is to install some sort of loop on your water system. When pool owners know a freeze is coming, they turn on a pool pump to keep the lines from freezing. Ok, I know the temps were way colder than normal. However, it's good advice. Another thing you might want to do is evacuate the lines like an irrigation system. Blow all the water out so it can't freeze. Good lessons. You couldn't have guessed it all. But with a rain catchment system these are things you will have to consider.
Life is a series of winding roads, some paved & most are muddy, frozen & full of crazy people. That’s why sharing your adventure with your partner is so important. You’ll make it together and share memories with your children..... keep pushing on

It blows me away that they have done everything on their own! Could you imagine, once the house is done, the sense of pride they'll have? And the relief that's it's done lol These two are work horses!
So happy for you guys that you were able to make repairs and get back to a “normal” day. I couldn’t wait for your update video after the deep freeze. It’s like waiting on pins and needles checking for your videos everyday and hoping one pops up. Love them all so much!! 🥰
I love it how everyone seems to fall back to the "Oh, its a once in a hundred year event". I got news for all of you. The onec in a hundred year event is happening every ten to twenty years. Back in the 70's (when I was 20) the once in a hundred year event was down to around 50 years. The big freeze is going to be a regular occurrence from now on.

I called my sister on my way home and she told me first thing right off the bat that Life Uncontained had posted a video, I couldn’t wait to get home to watch, I hope you get the internet figured out, Stay blessed and safe. Happy Easter to you all.
@Derek Jackson Don’t doubt me, this miserable time in place has little to bring joy, I have lost my hero..my Father not too long ago and this family brings me joy, happiness and hope that I desperately need, I love them and worry about them when I know that they are going through rough things, I don’t expose myself to much outside of my home but them, so I’m invested in their journey more than I can explain and both my sister and I look forward to seeing them and their progress on this incredible endeavor. Stay blessed.
Kudos to the two of you for getting thru the chaos and repairing the broken stuff. Onward to better things! Peace!
One of the biggest things is you put it together and you knew how to fix it. You are one of the hardest working guys I know. You two work hard together but you always seem to have time for your little lady. I'm so happy for you guys.
Nominated the best youTube channel 2021 👏
To note, the last "Once in a century storm" was about 10 years ago in Texas.
Cheers guys on the honesty . Blessings to you all and the teamwork👌🗽🇺🇸😇
I was thinking to myself the whole time please tell me he's going to winterize the pump house.... I'm so happy you're deciding to do that! Can't wait to see what your next video is going to be!
We just love 💕 how ya’ll handle adversity and just keep moving forward.
Is there anything Spencer can’t do? Amazing WiFi guy too!! Y’all hang in there your gonna make it.
I just love how y'all can continue to laugh through calamity and controversy. Your little girl is so cute and getting so big!
I've been waiting for your video all week. I was going into withdrawal.
I’m glad you’re back to normal after all those unexpected situations.
love to see two young kids doing everything learning from their mistakes, and the best way to learn common sense. now they know next time a good hard freeze is coming to drain all the pipes especially at the water pump odd house. keep up the great work kids
Glad you're back in water-land at last. Every good is a lesson on what NOT to do, and you guys learn a lot faster than most folk. We've got your back!
Thankful you could repair all the weather-related damage. Really glad y’all are safe and healthy!
Agree.
I love this little family, hope they never stop filming. It makes me smile watching them live out their dreams. Truly inspiring.
You know what’s nice about going viral on RUclips and doing whatever it is that you like to do or just trying to build a family and a home either in a homesteading way or in another way. You get free information from your followers. I have a couple other RUclips channels that I follow in their homesteading. I truly enjoy people coming together and helping one another out, we’re all brothers were all sisters and we’ve got the good mindset that living off grid and homesteading is the way.
Climbing up the pole reminds me of Green Acres using the phone.
Lol, old enough to remember 🤣
A man that never tries never fails..... a man that fails occasionally has at least tried. You learn from your failures and keep trying and learning. Your a very wise man Spencer..😆😆😆😆😆😁👍
"That's what happens when you work too fast". I feel ya Spencer! However, there is nothing that you can't do...both you and your wife! Great job guys! Keep up the good work!
Did you see the shirt he was wearing?
How in the hell you kids keep your sense of humor is beyond me 🤷♀️ I have to say I am so damn impressed!!! You have guardian angels 🙏❤️😇
It's call editing..
We’re the guardian angels 👼 and great editing by Mackenzie.
Try using a dedicated heater inside of the pump house, as well insulating the walls. This will keep that room at a even temperature espl. when the temperature drops below freezing.
Your place is going to look so beautiful when your finished with it.
YES.... PURE JOY from each video.... Love Beau !! The LOVE they show for each other is so PURE !!
Carry on!
Agree 🙂.
Wishing you good luck and confidence that your problems will be resolved!
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
I feel your pain and frustration ......So good you can fix those kind of things.
wish i could be your neighbour to lend you a hand.
So glad to see this video as I was worried about how you were coping with the disastrous weather
Who else remembers the containers were EVERGREEN, and then realizes that's the company whose container ship was stranded in the Suez Canal a couple of days ago.
As soon as the ship was stuck there brought me to remembering what their shipping containers liked and the EVERGREEN along the sides
I was thinking there was some karma going on. :-)
The first time I saw that jam up, I saw EVERGREEN.
HC 's government code name.
I thought of these guys immediately when I saw the ship.
A secondary pump with a bypass is a good idea so you can replace the primary if it goes down so you're not without water wouldn't be a bad idea.
Great idea. I hope Spencer sees this comment.
Your dog drinking out of the frozen lake while standing on it, is the cutest thing I've ever seen.
You guys put a smile on my face this morning.😊 thank you
You two are an inspiration for adapting and working through your problems.
Being prepared is not over kill it is better than having the same problem over again & not learning from mistake.
Your wife's laughter is good for the spirit
I’ve missed y’all. Glad the water is running again.
I feel like you have learned a lot from the snow and the cold. You two are amazing, love your postings.
Life is a series of winding roads, some paved & most are muddy, frozen & full of crazy people. That’s why sharing your adventure with your partner is so important. You’ll make it together and share memories with your children..... keep pushing on
Another week of me dropping everything to watch this!🤓😏
This is now an addiction. I paused Amazon Prime to watch this.
I always pause stuff to watch them build
I agree I took my lunch break early to watch
There are worse addictions.
Me too. Lol.
Same I’ve been checking RUclips everyday at least 6 past past their last video lol
Spencer, to witness how you've handled the issues that you've all just experienced.... with the learnt skills & the incredible amount of patience.....
You are indeed a man of men.
God Bless you brother.
Y’all work great together! I’m so happy you have each other!
Sense of humor, loving family unit, beautiful property, you’re so blessed by the Lord.
Home ownership is sometimes two steps forward and two steps back. At least now Spencer is an expert plumber, so the reinstall probably took 1/4 the time. You guys are amazing!
Hey guys so nice to see you all again ! When I saw the title of the episode I was seriously scared lol. But, luckily it was things that , " Super Spenser ", could fix. Beau is getting so big and her hair is getting so long. Sending Love & Prayers from Nova Scotia ,Canada xo
Never ceases to amaze me, Spencer, your problem solving abilities & resolve to “get it done!” 2 steps up & a little one back. It’s all part of the journey, right? Glad you’ve got drinkable water again. Happy Spring! Love from Savannah.
You guys are an inspiration to young and old! So positive and ready to take on any and all situations! Keep the faith, it will soon be what you’ve worked SO hard to achieve!!
Thank you for such wonderful positive release from all the negative energy in the world. Love y'all bunches.
Happy you all got to at least enjoy the snow... sledding, after all the damage it did to your build. Love you guys and stay safe 😷💞
It’s so good to hear you laugh Mackenzie through all the sledding video! It’s such a great sound! I’m glad to see that this hardship hasn’t taken your joy away!
I love to hear Kenzie’s laugh, it makes me smile every time. And the icing on the cake for this episode is little Beau just talking and babbling away.
@@kathyl5610 yes, the baby talking is so sweet!!
You guys always make me laugh. I'm glad you're recovering from that storm and that the damage wasn't worse! Always looking forward to your videos.
I am do impressed with the way ya'll handle when things go bad. Ya'll are an wonderful example for me. Thank you for sharing your life. Ya'll are AMAZING!
Tough times, but glad you know now before it’s finished. Do the same with inside of the house... be ready for everything! Keep pushing on!
You can tell he is taking pain with all these problems. Almost wants to make you cry. You can see the forced smile on his face
You guys are going to be such experts after going through all of this!
I would see if the flex paint will add extra rubber insulation to your pipes. It comes in white and black colors.
Anyone else say "oh nooooo" when the music fades in at the end of each video? I always want more. 😥😬👌👏🤗
I get so sad when I hear the music kick in at the end.
Every time. 😂 xx🏴🏴🏴
@@BangTanPrettiNikki So I'm not the only one.😥
I get sad too 😭 I could watch them everyday lol once a week is not enough! I love this family so much, I've really enjoyed watching their journey. It blows me away that they have done everything on their own! Could you imagine, once the house is done, the sense of pride they'll have? And the relief that's it's done lol These two are work horses!
yup me too
Aww I feel your pain. So sorry this happened. I am so happy that you were able to fix it without too much of an issue. Love your channel!
So happy for you guys that you were able to make repairs and get back to a “normal” day. I couldn’t wait for your update video after the deep freeze. It’s like waiting on pins and needles checking for your videos everyday and hoping one pops up. Love them all so much!! 🥰
You two are so entertaining. I love hearing Beau in the background too. She’s a little doll.
Global warming is to blame, of course!
You have touched my heart in so many times. The loss of my family I see as your strength to stay as one. Do not loose your spirit and laughter. Keep love on your hearts, never go to sleep without a kiss. I'll watch your channel forever. From the UK :)
Well done 👍🏾 Spencer ...!! Proud of you and your wife..!!
