- I kept putting this little gem off from enhancing and finally got it done. I had made an enhanced recording of this song over 20 years ago and accidentley deleted it so I just to redo it better than before.
This is my first Gerry Rafferty when he was in Stealers Wheel. Hope you like it! Kenn
Only a genius creates this music.
Joe Egan.
Very beautiful song!!!!!!!!!! A song for eternity!!!!!!!! Always smile by hearing it.......!!!!!!
Joe Egan wrote and sang this overlooked gem.
This song was not written by Gerry, but I've always thought it was about Gerry, which I suppose makes all the Rafferty swag in this video appropriate in a way.
Yes, and the video is all about Gerry Raff....a bit unfair!!!
damn , that piano solo gets me every time
You get chills... So good!!
This song is awesome!! Prob haven't heard it since 1975 and came up on Spotify two days ago. Did not recognize it until the lines, "After all you've been through tell me what will you do When you find yourself back on the shelf? There's been less than 10 times where I discovered a song on RUclips where I was awestruck. I think it was top 30, should have gone higher!
Everytime I bring up Gerry Rafferty, people piss and moan about his addiction problem. He's not the only one that had that horrible battle. I hear him and his partner's songs and it blows my mind. These guys were More than Great!!!!!
Class doesn’t fade it grows with age….another classic…Gerry boy had plenty of class…
Great song by Stealers Wheel! I remember hearing it many times back in the day!
Brilliant song. Their best in my opinion. Shame it didn't reach the top ten
It did for me and that's all I care about. Remember, "The moral majority is neither"
Gerry and Joe both gone. What a sad loss to the world of quality music. ❤
Amazing remastering man. WOW. Blasted this on studio headphones, it was like hearing it for the first time. This song is absolutely one of my favorites ever, just so good. Thank You!!!
It's amazing to me how some people really love these versions and other people try to smear the daylights out of me for it. I just got done reading a comment on one of my other videos that said "Why are you adding instruments not in the original? The song is perfect as it is". I think they are out voted by the general public on that statement. I get it though--some just like the original period, end of sentence and they will let you know about it. I really do try to make these oldies classics sound better without destroying the integrity of the original.
Glad you like what I did to this Gerry Rafferty (Steelers Wheel) classic. Kenn
@@cinematic35 Your additions are subtle, tasteful, and add to rather than detract from the originals. Plus, it's great fun trying to pick out the enhancements! Seems to me you missed your calling as a record producer - or maybe you are one...
Nice comments. My mom told me when I was a kid "You have an ear for music". Amazing what moms know. I just played around in local rock and roll band for decades and when I got tired of that scene I decided to sit at home and do something that would be fun and help me not get rusty or let my talent go to waste. I had a mini disc recorder back in the 199's and I started
enhancing some of Olivia Newton John's songs that were not recorded very well. It was only guitar tracks I layered on top of her originals. My friends wanted to know where those versions came from cause they sounded better. By the way I was just contacted by a former member of the GRASS ROOTS who heard by enhanced version of "Baby Hold On" was so impressed that he wanted to know how I did it informing me that all their original tapes had been destroyed in a
warehouse fire. Also contacted by recording artists with similar comments.
My band had a home studio we built back in the 1990 so we got to mess around with endless hours of recording and mixing and that is where I got some skills on how to layer sound tracks. When I started the Music Enhancement channel on RUclips I eventually broadened out to adding more in the sound mixes then guitars (keyboard, percussion, vocals, hand claps, tambourine) etc. to what it is today. What had disgusted me the most are the copyright thugs who come on our channels and delete whatever they want. They have eliminated almost all enhanced Beatles and ABBA which the fans loved. I'm trying to promote these world class artists to new generations and they are trying to shut it down. I will continue with this fun hobby because of the 50,000 subscribers and 50 million hits on the channel. Otherwise I would delete the channel and go do something else.
As far as missing my calling as a record producer. I'm clueless as to how people even get into those positions but this is the closest thing I've done that mimics it. I would not want to be bothered in the industry today as I think it has degraded into cheap trash and mediocrity. Lastly, I have adapted the techniques of two giants in the recording industry who have inspired me, Phil Spector and George Martin. Combining the two together has given me the techniques to
enhance these oldies and breathe new life into them and improve the listening quality absent in the originals. Kenn
@@cinematic35 Kenn, I just LOVE the ambience @ 1:41 & beyond. It's always been the high point of the song, now it sounds even better!
Fab song sadly missed gerry will play this forever may i live love 1973
Their best recording ever... Absolutely Awesome Sound !!!!!!!
Great job! I haven't heard this in....what seems like eons!
So they've made you a star
Now your head's in a cloud
And you're walkin' down the street
With your feet are off the ground
They read in the press all about your success
They believe every word they've been told
After all you've been through tell me what will you do
When you find yourself out in the cold
Ah, tell me Ah, tell me
When you appear on the stage
There's a standing ovation
You really live out your performance
You're the biggest sensation
You breeze through the door and when you take the floor
You expect to have it all to yourself
After all you've been through tell me what will you do
When you find yourself back on the shelf
Ah, tell me Ah, tell me
Love this song. Gets the toes tapping👏
fantastique i never heard anything like this before
Glad you like it! Just trying to make a great song sound even better! Kenn
This song brings me back to very happy times and I can't thank you enough for sharing your work Kenn. Great job once again.
Always loved this song. Got to help perform it once at a uni music evening. Total joy.
Just heard this on underground garage. Killer song
Great job! Haven't heard this song for ages! Thanks, Kenn
The first time I heard “Star” by Stealers Wheel was on KSBY-FM, an automated radio station in San Luis Obispo, California where I grew up. Little did I knew that Gerry Rafferty was the lead singer, but it was the second and last Top-40 hit for Stealers Wheel from 1974. Well, thanks to some enhancing this song sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Gerry Rafferty is smiling down from heaven.
In a live video of this song it looks like Joe Egan was the lead singer
@@pmccservices Yes. Joe also wrote it.
WOW...Great sound!!! 🤗
Great job Kenn!!!!!!!!
The piano rif at 1.40 is awesome, gives the song an almost other worldy quality. Who was the piano player?
that solo gets me every time me, so damn good, hits my feelings for some weird reason
According to the cover of the album (Ferguslie Park), three people are credited with playing piano on it - Gerry, Joe, and one Peter Robinson. But it doesn't say who played on which individual tracks!! I've a hunch it was PR on this one, but your guess is as good as mine.
Really good mix. Nothing to complain about as a few others have. Just enjoy.
Wow. Thank you for making this!!
RIP Joe. 7/6/2024.
FABULOUS !!
You do know that this is a Joe Egan song, and that he is singing lead on it.
Very well aware here, even if a high percentage of people only remember the somewhat difficult to work with Gerry Rafferty.
Isn't the song composed by Rachel Zeffira / Rachel Anne Santesso?
Yep, I was aware of that!
@@arizu3989 no it wasn't!!
First off, I enjoy listening to everything you put up. You are extremely talented. My only criticism is (and I've said this before) is that in your effort to enhance a recording, occasionally the vocals get buried in the mix. And this is one of those examples. I realize that you don't do it on purpose - that it's the result of adding more sound to what's already there (what you have to work with). If there was a way to raise the level of only the original vocals as you add more of your own "sound" to the mix, the result would be astounding.
I had this thought as well. I think the problem is if you bring up the vocals, you also have to bring up everything else in the original recording. I wonder if he could use vocal isolation tricks (mid-sides conversion, eq, phase-cancellation, etc) to get a clean vocal track that he could then boost independently. Kenn, if you're listening, I'm totally inspired by your work!
Can't argue about that comment and the fans of this music are my best critics!
I guess the trick here is to keep the extra tracking down to a minimum when mixed so as not to mar the vocal. It's not as if they won't be heard cause they will--it's the temptation to overdo them that ruins the recording. I sure will
try to mix my all new recordings as best I can. You guys keep me on my toes!
I had this on 45rpm long long ago.
The first 45 I played when I got my turntable set back up
Me too! 🤗
I still have my Stuck In the Middle With You 45!!
Lucian Higginbotham Nice!
I also think Gerry Rafferty was a ingenious musician, but it's my understanding this song is mainly a Joe Egan composition. Joe is also the lead singer on this song.
A Joe Egan classic.
This song reminds me of a “Turtles” melody. Maybe with a little “Nilsson” or perhaps “The Kinks.”
Great song.
Gerry only sings back up vocal and guitar. Joe Egan wrote and sings the lead vocal.
A very rare example of an "enhanced" song that surpasses the original.
About a week ago, on t.v. they started using this song to advertise a murder/mystery program. I had to come here to confirm!
❤
Siglos buscándola y hoy 8 d mayo del 21 la encontré
Gerry Rafferty!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree!!! Baumer
The difference between gerry & Joe was this, Joe was an excellent singer & songwriter as this gem proves, gerry was a GENIUS, that is the difference! It's no disrespect to Joe, as he was brilliant!
Why?-leave it alone !
Joe Egan is a great singer writer
the mix is boring
leave it wrong!
please
I am NOT impressed by the increase in volume and distortion! PUKE!
R.i.p Joe Egan ,gone aged 77 but the music lives on .
Best song they ever did!!
NICE AND CLEAR .. the Great Gerry.
It's actually written and sung by Joe Egan!
"You're listing to The Rockpile on 97.1 WNBC-FM" Automated Top 40 station I heard this back in 1974
Written by Joe Egan but looks like an ad for Gerry Rafferty....
Stealers Wheel was the duo of Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty. Most of their songs were co-written by the duo, including "Stuck In The Middle With You", but "Star" was written by Joe Egan by himself.
Joe Egan also sings the _lead vocal_ on this. Gerry's doing the harmonies only. The video makes it look like a Gerry Rafferty solo record, when he didn't even contribute to the writing of it and only sings background.
This is Joe Egan's baby all the way, and probably the best song Stealers Wheel ever did.
I love your bass technique(s).
And also the background jingles are also great
My favorite by them.
there are instruments added to the original recording, I don't believe this channel has access to the stems so that isn't tracks that were muted or buried
I already liked this, but your enhancement really makes it pop now!
This song never sounded so good! Excellent work, and thank you for sharing!
Excellent Rafferty/Egan collaboration
Love IT *****
74 !!
That’s great. Thanks Gerry!!!
Brilliant 👏 Do some more stealers wheel and gerry
Really is good sound ..
LOVE THIS SONG!!
I like this song very very much, and sweet harmonica and piano sound. Back in the 70's!
