The ALC-42s only replace the P42DCs on California Zephyr, Empire Builder, Southwest Chief, Coast Starlight and 2 more. The P42DCs stay in all of the other services.
Oh my god the 301 painted with the Pointless Arrow and the black paint with the blue stripes might be the single best looking locomotive in the fleet, they knocked it out of the park. I almost wish Amtrak was using some modification of this for a future phase, it looks really good

It's about time Amtrak updated in old looking paint scheme. The colors are more billiant against the black background. May be old scheme, but today it looks so modern looking.

Since 75 ALC-42s are on order for long distance Amtrak trains, there will be a few ALC-42s that will replace some of the F40PHs that were destroyed in wrecks. First, there will be an ALC-42 numbered as 312, which will replace the old 312 that was lost in the Big Bayou Canot train derailment (47 deaths and 103 injuries), and there will also be an ALC-42 numbered as 366, which will replace the old 366 that was lost in the Back Bay collision (no deaths, but 453 injuries). Deal?

@@magdavanthuis3924 I can understand your skepticism however I did say ' if it keeps going the way it is ' . I have traveled overseas and can remember being in a ICE 1st class section with a leaking roof to the point were that part of the car was closed off . In Italy the railroad went on strike and at 4:33 the train came to a stop and we had to get off the train in between the stations . I had to find my own way to the destination . And of course there was the SBB ban on DB coming into CH because they broke down to often and blocked major train routes. Lets not overlook the pushers in Japan that push people into the trains , behavior we wouldn't except here. When the USA puts their focus on something they can do it . 1st class train travel is their goal and will achieve it .
The P40's had issues when first delivered too. Almost a year after the first batch were delivered F40's were still being used on the Empire Builder until the Wintering issues with the P40's were resolved.

As a crew member of a major freight railroad who happens to treat Amtrak the best percentage wise, I & many others do our part to keep Amtrak moving with minimal delay.
Yeah the DE/DM30ACs have been total lemons since they entered service with them having so many issues. Also Metro North will be getting Dual Mode Chargers to replace the P32AC-DMs as well. They will also get Chargers to replace the Geeps and F40PH-2Cs on the West of Hudson fleet.
I love what Amtrak's cooking up these days! Now all we need are for freight railroads to stop being jerks and let passenger trains move first as well as improve the overall track structure. I wanna see the Siemens Venture coaches out on the rails soon!
Why? Pax trains are in the minority on all rail systems in the US, and more freight moves by rail in the US than goes by truck(something truckers love to hate). The US literally moves freight by rail but travels more by car and airplane so to give pax trains the priority would be stupid when the make up only a small fraction of the total rail movements.
Cool footage! I'm so excited for these new engines to take over the rails of Amtrak. It'll be sad to see the old Genesis locomotives go but at least they gave us a lot of fond memories in their nearly 30 years of service. Keep up the good work Mike!

Currently, the newest locomotive has the oldest scheme, as the scheme was painted in late April 1971 for Penn Central 4316

Except the 12 Cabbages the F40's are no longer in the fleet except one, & it's a display dummy with controls only like the rest of the Cabbage fleet.

I dont get why amtrak didn’t just number 301 as 4316 which is the original number of the day 1 paint
Probably because Amtrak doesn’t know how to outsource locomotives and actually do something right.
