      Oh damn. You wanted a russian manicure but then forgot to make sure the tech you went to could perform a russian manicure. Are you in the states. The technique required for that particular type of manicure may not even be legal in your jurisdiction. Why? Because russian manicures heavily manipulate the area near the nail matrix. Damage to the matrix can be irreversible and result in an effed up nail forever or no nail at all. Be glad she didn’t try to give you something she isn’t trained to, or perhaps legally allowed to. ❤

    I do gelx, it’s great for damaged nails.. but it isn’t necessarily “healthier” it’s still the same chemicals that are in acrylics or traditional gels. The damage comes from improper removal, or bad techs that file away your natural nails during application. Finding the right tech is key, and it looks like you found it now 👏👏 yay!!

      same ! i get the gel x, i get like medium length almond. i used to get acrylic, & the places i used to go they would get either a press on nail or a nail tip-& pry the nail away from the natural nail. it hurt so so bad & i could see the layers of my nails peeling away. when i finally stopped getting acrylics-my nails got healthier. i am a CNA-i can work with the gel x no problem. my tech removes the nails every time soak off, it’s so much better

    • @catrice1296
      @catrice1296 7 месяцев назад +32

      They probs used like mma monomer and then had to basically pry it off bc it takes like an hour or more to remove. So it does kinda matter what chemicals are being used bc some dont remove well so they cut corners and gouge it off instead. Using gelx and stuff means even if the next person is incompetent they probs still end up being less damaging to the natural nail.

    • @shayt8871
      @shayt8871 7 месяцев назад +25

      Gel x is actually chemically different from acrylics for the because you’re not using monomer which can contain MMA or acrylic powder. My nail tech is the best thing that ever happens to me. Each visit I get a nail care baggie with a brush for cleaning under my nails and cuticle oil. After regularly using my oil I have 0 hang nails. Products matter

    I was an independent tech for 30 yrs. We don't have anyone with their 'foot on our neck' saying "Hurry up! Aren't you done yet?!!" "No! You have to use cheaper products." "Push this style! It'll cost the client more!" We have control. We can honor our own ethics. We can treat our clients the way they should be treated. Leaving a chain salon was the best decision I made. Nicky is a tech with a conscience. She did a great job. Stick with her! 😊

      Sometimes independent nail techs are very affordable! Some vary as they get more customers so of course sadly they raise prices on a few things .. like charms, designs, different nail colors etc. Which make sense bc they buy those for the service. (Also their time is a big factor as well) Still, many are also very considerate if you want to get your nails done but don’t have a lot of money. Really depends but is possible.

    Yaaaaassss girl you did exactly what I recommended in your last video!!! Not sure what it is about us private nail techs but once you find us you never leave!!!
    Nails should never hurt! Of course with anything that is done by a human mistakes can happen but they are RARE! I’m talking once to a person EVER…. But you should NOT feel pain during your nail prep, while your nail polish is curing in the lamp, or anytime after your enhancements are on.
    A private tech might be more expensive, but we’re providing a completely different service than you get in a salon. Especially ones like me that only provide Russian Manicure/Dry services. The health of clients nails ALWAYS comes first. We care about the goals of each client and providing an assessment, creating a plan of action, and making it happen!
    Anyone who is going to look for a new private technician- Request a few photos of their work or ask for a portfolio. Make sure to ask if there is anything the tech does not do. A lot of techs don’t do hand painted art other than some light line work and French tips. The best part is you don’t have to be afraid to ask if we can do something!!! Almost all of us love to be challenged when it comes to creating something special for our clients!
    I would highly suggest providing the technician with several pictures and letting them know specifically what you like about each photo. WE GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!

    I can’t believe the salons weren’t doing your cuticles… that is literally the core of a manicure! The polish is extra.
    Independent techs are amazing! And the range of products you get to choose from are way more fun (I saw all those jelly polish sample boards 😍).

    Oh yeah they really did mess those up bad.... But I would have loved to be able to see the after effect from going to a good nail tech...... didn't get to see the pretty nails.

    Girl truly I've had so many salons send me out looking crazy and then refused to fix it or own up to it

    I love a nail salon for a pedicure but independent techs are definitely the way to go if you want something really cute and customized unless you put in effort to form a relationship with a specific tech at a salon

    I like independent nail techs but every time I go to one there are so many extra costs! Like 20 dollars to do 4 charms, an extra 5 dollars for every quarter of an inch of extensions you want to do over their standard ones, an extra 10 dollars to shape i.e oval, almond, stilettos, etc. were the priciest. There was even a "matte finish" fee of 7 dollars and 15 dollars for nail art that could be done in under 30 minutes, beyond that, it was charged every 15 minutes past the 30-minute limit. And this was all on top of their base fee of 50 dollars for 3 hours. If your appointment took longer than 3 hours, you'd be charged an extra 10 for every 30 minutes. I don't know if this is just the one I went to but for me, a set of short almond nails with nude polish, normal French tips and 2 bow charms, one on each hand, came out to 75 dollars! So I just started doing press-ons lmao

    thats what i akways got in LA. i got tired of trying to find a good salon. i think when you are a random client in a new nail place they just give you whatever tech is there but if you have been going there for months they give you a better, more seasoned tech. but i am glad you found a great nail artist!!!

    This is why im trying to learn to do my own nails. The way u wanted ur 1st set is the way i always want mine. Nothing crazy, just clean shiny neutral pink. No one can do it!

    My sister is a independent nail tech and she’s so great she always makes sure she makes your nails look good even if that’s not what you were looking for and she makes sure she doesn’t ruin ur nails more as u go to her more and more acrylic, gel , or just painting your nails will seem like they are helping ur nails
