I remember seeing this cartoon on Nickelodeon as a kid, long before Cartoon Network came into play. It's funny that just a few years ago I had a difficult time finding this cartoon & bought the DVD. Now the cartoon is all over the place. Yay!
I remember that everyday I would get up to go to school I would turn on the tv and the song playing was THE CAT CAME BACK. Damn I am really old haha :)
Oh man, I haven't seen this since I was a little kid. I always found it strangely creepy/unsettling back then and the song has been stuck in my head haunting me all these years. Catchy yet traumatizing, and all the same, I love it. xP
Couldn't have put it better myself ;) I found the beetle splitting in half most traumatizing, however. I don't think even the deaths at the end had the same impact. Very funny with a contagious song, regardless, however :) - then and now! I suddenly searched it because...I kid u not...I have a ginger cat that has adopted me and won't take 'no' for an answer :) This tune lost in the mists of my childhood suddenly overwhelmed me :) lol.

Same. I actually was starting to wonder if the whole video was a strangely disturbing reoccurring dream I must have had as a child. Seeing this is bringing back so many memories.... gald I'm not crazy. It's so perfectly sick; I love it.
This came into my head when I got a new kitten. I remember watching this as a kid, and the beetle splitting in half made me kind of sick to my stomach. It has been close to 25 years since I saw this as a kid, and I immediately remembered why I felt this was a strange and disturbing. And the beetle part still makes me a little sick to my stomach! I feel like that part was really unnecessary!!!
I remember watching this once or twice when I was a kid, I believe before the O Canada! block on Cartoon Network was made. Back then I remember I used to stay up late long after I was supposed to be in bed and just watch TV in the dark. Good times.
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND THIS DAMN CARTOON FOR AGES. Sweet Jesus, the nostalgia. Thank you very much, sir, for uploading this. ~checks date.~ Er...for uploading this 6 1/2 years ago, I mean. Well, whatever. Still! Funny when I saw it 20 years ago, and still amusing now! Good stuff!
Me too! I couldn't even remember that it was a cartoon. I just knew this funny song and for the life of me I couldn't remember where I heard it. Now I remember! This was awesome!
Hehe :3 my dad sent me a link to this video. My cat ran off yesterday and I was really worried because it got cold and she's pregnant. He sent me a picture of her sitting on the couch. I'm really excited to see my baby when I go back to his house.
I remember watching this in the movie theater with my family when I was a kid. It was some special animation block that was showing at the time. Right before this one came on, there was another skit called "Bambi Vs Godzilla"--that was funny too! I have been looking for this skit for years! Thank you so much for uploading it!
I watched this in the local library on their cartoon days. Favourite day of the week and this was my favourite cartoon. Reminds me of my cat now, haha.
Haven't seen this since first seeing it as a small child, and that was only the one time, yet the main song has stayed with me for years. Thank you for posting this. Brilliant to be able to watch it again!
Old Man Johnson accidentally killed himself, and so he thought that he wouldn't have to deal with the cat anymore. The writer killed the cat so that way Old Man Johnson now has to deal *nine* of the things for the rest of eternity.
this is one of those awesome things u watch as a child, half remember then spend the next decade looking for in stores to no avail. Hooray for youtube:)
Like others, I saw this one time at least fifteen years ago, of not twenty, an it has stayed with me for so long. So good to see it on RUclips. A sign that it's genius is that it leaves an indelible imprint in one's brain all this time. Thanks for posting.
I seen this in a commercial break on Nickelodeon in the 80's. I just hopped on RUclips to show it to my 10 yr. old son. RUclips definitely good for this.
we used to sing this song at camp, as a staffer, we had to sing at every meal to keep campers entertained while in line for food and this was one of my favorite ones to sing
Wow. I forgot about this! Thank you so much for posting this classic hilarious short film. I haven't seen this in years. It brings back so many memories. I remember I used to sing this a lot when I was little.
this is one of the most brilliant things i have ever seen, and i was privlidged enough to be able to see this first-run on cable as a child in the 80s.
I loved this when I was a little girl. I remember seeing it on HBO. This is the kind of song that sticks in your head and I have been looking for this cartoon forever! Very cute, thank you for posting it!
I love this cartoon. Me and my brother used to watch it as kids many years ago. As we had a little cat that used to shred all the furniture it was very apt..... Classic
Oh my god, I remember watching this ages ago! The tune STILL pops into my head at least once a week. THANK YOU FURAFFINITY for making this the link of the day!
Ha ha haha!!!! I was a kid in grade school when I saw this. I only saw it once on cable...I think it was MTv and I loved it. Never forgot about it since!!!! This is great!!!!
I've forgotten more cartoons than most people will ever see, and this one is inarguably one of the funniest ever. Saw it at Spike and Mike when it debuted, and it's been a quarterly tonic for me ever since. You can even laugh with your eyes closed because the soundtrack is hee-larious: starting with the kitten's meow, the guy's baby talk, the rat's sharp inhale, the sound of the bat cracking the glass...Just beautiful stuff.
God bless the CFB for this! Love the blowing of the raspberries in the beginning! My brother and I would "fart along" with this song blowing raspberries every time and laugh ourselves silly.
I saw this cartoon about 25 years ago when it aired as an HBO short. I had the song in my head today and decided to search for it and voila! You gotta love youtube.
Same! I can remember watching it on Nickelodeon when I was little. In fact, every time I heard reference to this song, after that, always reminded me of this cartoon. :)
I have been singing this song off and on in my freaking head for years.. My brother Andrew and I (saw this? or heard the song?) years ago and I was sitting on the couch tonight and POP back in my head and I said to myself this is the era of RUclips!! Im gonna look this up already! LOL....well here it is! Good memories.
I remember when this used to play on Nickelodeon back in the 80s
This is one of those things you forget about for years and remember vividly as soon as someone starts describing it.
Fr
the nostalgia is too much to handle! i'll never get this tune out of my head!
I remember seeing this cartoon on Nickelodeon as a kid, long before Cartoon Network came into play. It's funny that just a few years ago I had a difficult time finding this cartoon & bought the DVD. Now the cartoon is all over the place. Yay!
This song is stuck in my head so often and not watched this in like 30 years.
I remember that everyday I would get up to go to school I would turn on the tv and the song playing was THE CAT CAME BACK. Damn I am really old haha :)
My cat has come back... Old age got him 30 years ago. now got a kitten with the same markings and personallity.. The cat is back. many tears
I remember watching this when I was little, late at night. I had this thing stuck in my head for years afterwards.
Oh man, I haven't seen this since I was a little kid. I always found it strangely creepy/unsettling back then and the song has been stuck in my head haunting me all these years. Catchy yet traumatizing, and all the same, I love it. xP

Omg this used to be on O' Canada a show on Cartoon Network lol i used to stay up late so i could watch this as a kid.

I remember watching this between movies and shows on HBO and Showtime, in the early cable days... Miss those intermissions so much! 😁😁😁
LOL. This has been a fav of mine for years. Never been able to find it until now...Thank you
Check nfb.ca....the National Film Board site.......they have produced thousands of classics
They used to play this on Nickelodeon back in the late 80's I think. I was little at any rate. Thank you for the nostalgia!
I thought this was a fever dream of a tune I retained from elementary school music class... I now remember us watching this...
I haven't seen this in 20 years, easy. So fun, brings back memories of Nickelodeon.
Been about 20 years since i seen this lol. Possibly longer.
Classic blast from the past. Its at least 30 years old...
I remember watching this once or twice when I was a kid, I believe before the O Canada! block on Cartoon Network was made. Back then I remember I used to stay up late long after I was supposed to be in bed and just watch TV in the dark. Good times.
My music teacher in elementry school showed this to us. I was 7 or 8. I have had it stuck in my head since and I am 26 now.
I saw this several times as a little kid and it made an impression that can best be described as "Well that escalated quickly."
😂😂😂😂
Yes... I just showed this to my daughter and... uh....mm... yea... you hit it on the nose!
I watched this every day for almost three years as a child. And, I still enjoy it today.
One of a number of pieces I remember from the 1980's Festivals of Animation. Another one is The Man Who Planted Trees.
It's been so long since I've seen this. This brings back so many memories of summers in Canada.
OH MY GOD THATS WHAT THIS WAS I THOUGHT IT WAS A DREAM
OH MY GOD I JUST HAD THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE, AND THEN THE FIRST COMMENT I SEE IS THIS AND AAAAAAAAH!
blimey. what a trip down memory lane. Been humming this song for years but couldnt remember where it came from.
This has always scared me... It's a wonderful storyline and the animation is great, but this short gives me the shivers
God, this is bloody brilliant. A classic for the ages.
I’ve not watched this in like 10 years
I loved this cartoon when I was a kid. It was pretty hilarious back then and is still funny now. Thanks for posting it. Great childhood memories.

I saw this once, 20 years ago on Nickelodeon. It's been in my head ever since. Great stuff.
People that neither hate cats but at the same time have no love lost for them feel this cat embodies what a cat represents to them.
I've been singing this tune in my head on and off for about 20 years.
I never noticed him say "what the F...." when I was a kid.
This song has been stuck in my head for the last 25 years!
Hehe :3 my dad sent me a link to this video. My cat ran off yesterday and I was really worried because it got cold and she's pregnant. He sent me a picture of her sitting on the couch. I'm really excited to see my baby when I go back to his house.
How is the cat doing now?
My God this came on Nickelodeon between shows when I was little!
WTF I HAVENT SEEN THIS SINCE I WAS KID, DAMN!!!
this is one of the best short cartoons ever!!!
the cat came back the very next day!!!!
the tune sticks in your head like glue!!!!
self: R.I.P. from watching this video. I die with laughter every time I see it
I can't seem to get this song out of my head, i find myself thinking about it at the strangest times, but i love it.
It's sad that the first result on youtube is a far less creepy version. this one is so much better.
Far more crappy version you mean?
Childhood is flooding back!
4:44 "What The FFF-" MOOOO
I haven't seen this in years, but it's still just as awesome as i saw when I was like 5 or 6.
There's something strangely creepy about this....
I remember watching this in the movie theater with my family when I was a kid. It was some special animation block that was showing at the time. Right before this one came on, there was another skit called "Bambi Vs Godzilla"--that was funny too!
I have been looking for this skit for years! Thank you so much for uploading it!
If he had it desexed & got a scratching post then he wouldn't have had all these problems 8D 8p
I suppose this was the inspiration for the Theory Of A Deadman song
⟪ VBS ⟫ just realized that.. Mind Blown!! their's is better tho lol
I watched this in the local library on their cartoon days. Favourite day of the week and this was my favourite cartoon. Reminds me of my cat now, haha.
Who the heck would make a rattler that breaks that easily?
Haven't seen this since first seeing it as a small child, and that was only the one time, yet the main song has stayed with me for years. Thank you for posting this. Brilliant to be able to watch it again!
This is kinda good but kinda bad,in a way, because, well, why did the cat have to die, too?
Because it is a Kat and all Kat's are evil .
Old Man Johnson accidentally killed himself, and so he thought that he wouldn't have to deal with the cat anymore. The writer killed the cat so that way Old Man Johnson now has to deal *nine* of the things for the rest of eternity.
+Dean Waddle Not all cats are evil.
neither is this one, though an eternity with the cat might be a perfect eternal punishment for that old man.
She's a self-proclaimed ''Activist'', you know?
this is one of those awesome things u watch as a child, half remember then spend the next decade looking for in stores to no avail. Hooray for youtube:)
