Dr demento played a version of this that he said was the earliest he had found. But the lyrics were different. E.g so they strapped the cat to a pole by the garage and gave him a double barrel shotgun barrage. And all they found when they looked for the pet was a tiny little blindfold and a half smoked cigarette. But the cat came back. I love this song!
Hahaha, well done. Now in the early 60's I went to a folk music summer camp in Vermont called Killooleet. It was run by the Seeger family, folksingers all, and this is one of the songs I learned there. It stuck to me right away due to its weird macabreness, and has stuck with me for the last 60 years. But there was a last verse we sang there (maybe because the camp was run by the Seegers?) that I've never heard anywhere else. It went like this: "The A-bomb fell just the other day/The H-bomb fell in the very same way/First Russia went, then England went, and then the U.S.A./The human race was wiped out without a chance to pray/But the cat came back" &c. Anybody else ever heard that verse? Nuke Christy Minstrels?
Holy fuck. That's a good story. I think it's so cool that you guys added that verse just as the nuclear arms race took off. The verses basically escalate in morbidity as the song progresses, and you found a way to bring it to conclusion. This song and the verse you added will stick with me for life. I'm a musician (voice and guitar) and I will probably start playing this song in my usual contexts (open mike nights, family gatherings, etc) as a medley with 16 Tons and other songs which use this chord sequence. I will definitely end it with some variation of that verse you added. I was thinking: Now World War 3 started up the other day Nuclear missiles flying every which way First Russia burned, then the USA Human race was wiped out without a chance to pray But the cat came back, the very next day....
No, but as they say "We will all char together when we char, and let there be no moaning of the bar. Just sibg out a Te Deum when you see that eye-see-bee-emm, and the party will be come as you are" has the opposite feeling
I vividly remember having some CD from Walmart (est 2008-2009) that was like marketed for kids, and this was on it along with so many other songs that were equally morbid

I love you guys!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
97 pieces of the man is all they found
Meow 😻
Why do these lyrics creep me more than most death metal lyrics...or is it just Corporate Death and Nafarious' voices?? EESHH!!!
its the combination of the two
I feel the same these little "macabre minstrels" are super disturbing
Here because of the Theory of a Deadman cover
"I HAZ TROUBLE" and exagerrated chibi anime style. Yup, those drawings have severe 2007 energy.
idk, looks pretty western-cartoonish to me
🤘🤘🤘🤘
Im unsure why the gender changed at near end for the cat.
Thats a nasty cat
Awesome, was just listening to this album last week and wanted to do a video for this song
