It is a fairytale movie, and I don't think that you complain about that the prince in "Beauty & The Beast" or Queen Elinor in "Brave" are transformed.
Besides, Tiana has never been a frog in the merchandize or in the princess line-up or in "Ralph Breaks The Internet".

Character arc of Anastasia is the finest in Cinderalla 3. As a guy, i loved the movie entirely. It showed Anastasia as the true protagonist of the story than being a one-sided side character. She learned how to become a kinder person when meeting the king, and learned to appreciate Cinderella even though they are not that close as step-sisters.
The sequel to Wreck It Ralph couldve been SO GOOD if they talked about console games instead of THE INTERNET
Or PC games that have a multiplayer aspect
They could explored video game platforms that isn't just the arcade, such as PC, online, handhelds, and console gaming.

You are def not alone in your love for Atlantis. That movie sunk its way into my brain as a toddler and never came out. The scene where Kida gets taken in by the crystal is still one of the most mesmerizing things I’ve ever seen. It probably is one of the catalysts for my interest in art for real.
I love Atlantis and was always disappointed whenever I found out that there were so many people that hated it. It really drew me into animation as a medium and it's remained one of my favorites for so long.

I remember the first time I watched Atlantis I thought it would be some boring around the world thing or worse another chiken little type story but when I saw the ship dive into the water my whole perception of the movie changed and soon I watched Atlantis all the time
Hi there. Mexican here, and I can assure you I'm not saying this because of nostalgia: We love Panchito Pistolas and Los Tres Caballeros. The history of the flag Panchito explains is accurate (Mexico City is built on a fucking lake and it's sinking more and more every year, the Ay Jalisco No te Rajes song Panchito sings at some point is iconic, we do celebrate Christmas as depicted in the movie with the typical piñata, and yeah, fuck Jingle Bells, we sing las Posadas (with the movie even going as far as to explain the religious origin of it), we have posadas happening at work, at each member of a family's household (for example, my grandpas would host one day, and then one of my uncles would do the same next day or next week, and so on). Yeah, Idk about Brazil, but Mexico vibes with Los Tres Caballeros. I think this could be another one of those cases of non-Mexican people getting offended by stereotypical depictions of the Mexican culture, while Mexican people were literally in love with the Mexican Mario from Mario Oddysey. It's like, those stereotypes exist for a reason, man. I had one friend in high school complaining about how the town from Coco was depicted as a very rural one, with all the inhabitants being brown and with Dante being a Xoloitzcuintle, while, you know, we lived in a very rural part of our city, with cobbled streets, and he didn't have a Xolo but he had a fucking Chihuahua. I pointed out all of this, we laughed, and that was the end of that conversation.
Edit: I forgot to mention, my friend also has brown skin, like, you know, the majority of mexican people.

It still boggles my mind that Pocahontas and the lion king were not only in production at the same time, but the studios “a team“ was working on Pocahontas while the “b team“ was working on the lion king. After all these years it’s clear which film is superior, and yet I think shlaff nailed it on the head when he said that Pocahontas s crew were so wrapped up in the Oscar bait that they lost sight of what they were really doing.
Good thing I’m not the only one who thinks Pocahontas (1995) is overrated, even when compared to the highly praised The Lion King (1994) and any other Disney Renaissance film because they are beloved for just working in every way from their revolutionary (or just incredible in general) visuals to their strong and fun characters (yes, even The Rescuers Down Under).

If that movie is the result of *the crew losing sight of what they were really doing*, then am glad they did. Yes they came up massive flaws, historical inaccuracies and a boat-load of reasons for people to forget it but for my 2 cents Pocahontas on its own has every right to escape oblivion to this day. Yes its not Atlantis or Prince of Egypt: The animated movie of all time but the animation, music and songs are more than enough to cancel its snore-fest status. Bottom line, the Colors are flawed but they are also vibrant ^_^

Back during production The Lion King seemed to be taking more risks, with it being a film in which the animals aren't anthropomorphic. Luckily the team that was put on it were very passionate about the movie, and wanted to take risks with it, thanks to the low expectations, and those risks paid of. Sadly never got to see it in theater (the movie was already 9 years old when I was born, I missed the rerelease, and the 2019 remake doesn't count), but as soon as I get the chance, I'll go for it. By far my favorite animated movie, and generally one of my favorite movies too.
One of my favorite parts of my first viewing of Princess and the Frog was when Charlotte REALLY WAS Tiana's best friend. I was SO SURE she was going to turn into an antagonist, and just the fact that she was a thousand percent in Tiana's corner at the climax of the movie was wonderful to see.
"All my life, I read about true love and fairy tales and... Tia, _you found it!!_ I'll kiss him for you, honey, no marriage required!" through the happy tears _gets me every time._

As a brazilian I have to agree with other in the comments that The The Three Caballeros and Saludo Amigos are very well received here and José Carioca is a beloved character. As a History student I would like to point it out that these movies are reasonably respectful with the cultures they portray because they were not made only to capitalize on a distorted view of these cultures by the American public, these two movies are part of a diplomatic effort by the US foreign affairs to create friendly ties with its still neutral neighbors during World War II: the good neighbor policy. Walt Disney himself traveled to several of the locations depicted in the films with his team of artists, including Rio de Janeiro, the capital of Brazil at the time.
People forget that the US once wanted to create a Pan-American hegemony, and trying to maintain respect for the more powerful countries of that hegemony would be crucial in such a goal.
Sadly, the CIA decided that regime change in developing countries was preferable, and now we have the US and its puppet governments competing with countries that should be our strongest allies.
This timeline sucks.
As someone who holds a lot of nostalgia for Saludos Amigos in particular, it's nice to know that Disney didn't completely mess up South American culture to please white audiences, I'm so glad that they were at least reasonably respectful to it
@@user-mf9ot6qt4o Yes, I said reasonably because of the period made and the standards we are are expecting, it still have some problems and these movies here in Brazil usually are presented in History classes to give students context of that period, how these movies were just political tools, but in the end they are pleasurable to watch.
Very well said, those movies were made to strenghten our ties and build alliances during the war. There may be some things nowadays that look like stereotypes, but overall the intention was to make everything respectable.

It was even the most successful Disney movie since "Frozen II" in Japan and was also on top in the box office in countries like Argentina and Uruguay.
Thus it would be nice if some people could look outside their bubble and see that North America isn't the entire world.
But I guess that it would be asking for too much...
@@Furienna Either way nobody's talking about Wish and it's practically already been forgotten. It came out, everyone agreed it was bad, and that was it. Meanwhile I STILL hear people talk about Puss in Boots: The Last Wish more than a year later, even after ALL of DreamWorks' recent screw ups. Nobody cares if Wish did well globally, not even Disney I bet, they've got WAY bigger issues to worry about right now. Nobody's gonna remember it anyway.

It is not forgotten at all and got a lot of new attention recently as it finally was released on Disney +.
And if you look outside your little bubble, you will see that it's a false statement that "everybody" agreed that it was bad.
It is yet again clear that it was a big hit in Japan and Argentina and Uruguay and also did well in several other countries.
You have to learn that the world is bigger than just North America.
And people at Disney know that they're a global company and have to think about the whole global market...
My favorite thing about Snow White was actually the Woodland critters. They may be simple background characters with simple designs, but it's easy to see where The "Princess talking to animals" Cliche came from. The scenes where Snow White sings to them and cleans the Dwarf's Cottage were both surprisingly cute and charming. She had great chemistry with these animals.
They also had a lot more to do with the plot than expected, they were the ones who directed snow white to the cabin and they were also the ones to warn the dwarves that snow white was in danger
The thing I love about Mother Gothel from Tangled is she isn't only evil for the sake of being evil, she's evil because she wants something Rapunzel has and will go to any length to keep it. Mother Gothel is one of the scariest villains to me because of how real she is, she gaslights Rapunzel constantly and I like that even when Rapunzel is out of the tower and free of her "mother" she still feels massive guilt due to this. Its a great way to build both characters that I haven't really seen with another Disney movie.
Exactly! It’s so heartbreaking to think that Rapunzel genuinely loved Mother Gothel, because she’s believed she’s her mother for her entire life. Gothel is written in such a way where you completely understand why rapunzel is so hesitant to leave the castle, it’s not that she is too scared of her evilness, it’s that she genuinely respects Gothel and doesn’t want to disobey her wishes. Gothel isn’t the best villain on her own, sure, but she works GREAT and making you feel so compassionate towards Rapunzel. The last scene where Gothel falls to her death and Rapunzel reaches out for her, you see the pain of rapunzel losing the woman who was her mother her entire life, whilst also losing her greatest enemy…. It’s like…… Rapunzel is the most genuinely kind and wonderful princess at her core even though she was raised by a monster. I love Tamgled so much and I’m so bad at writing I wish I could express my thoughts on it better
@@beefcake353 You expressed your thoughts very well imo! You're absolutely right and used a great example in the death of Mother Gothel. It's just such a perfect example of a toxic relationship, where even after Rapunzel knew what mother Gothel did she was still upset when she died, it serves to show Rapunzels unconditional kindness in such an eloquent way

Fun Fact: The Fox and the Hound actually caused the Disney animated division to split up, because the dog getting hit by the train but not dying was too much as a matter of executive meddling, leading to Don Bluth doing his own thing.

for some reason i love tangled way more than i think i should. i dont know, the stuff with gothel just clicks with me so much as a victim of mental/physical child abuse, gaslighting, and sheltering from my very religious family. rapunzel meant so much to me as a kid because she managed to find so much joy in life and discovering new things despite the things she went through, and seeing someone like her find love gave me hope that id get a happy ending some day. heck, as a child whenever i drew a character i really liked i drew rapnunzel's hair on them to show how much i loved them. such a simple film means so much to me and im glad to see how much other people enjoyed it as well.

For me, Frozen II had a place in my heart, showing how Anna was losing hope and basically contemplating suicide was absolutely heart wrenching and was the first movie besides song of the sea to make me sob
I watched frozen 2 in a theater full of elementary school children bc it was a free afterschool field trip at work and I still got teary eyed from the show yourself sequence despite missing several scenes in the bathroom and being distracted by the kids lmao I don't think the rest of the movie is strong enough to warrant a rewatch but I could do it just for that sequence

Fun fact: One neat little detail about Beauty and the Beast I have just noticed. In the first half of the movie the Beast was seen moving around the castle on all fours indicating his beastly nature, but he is eventually bipedal throughout the second half of the movie which shows that he is beginning to act and feel more human again because of Belle.

As a Mexican person I can say that the interruption in the middle of the movie to celebrate the birth of Jesus is a great cultural reference to a Christmas tradition we have where we make a play out of any story and add the birth of Jesus Christ on it. We call it “Pastorela”.

I think it's nice as well, I mean they lay it out clearly that this is their experience with the culture and it's obviously gonna be coloured by their own experiences. But actually going to the country and learning a culture then relaying it to people has merit.

Belle and Beast: grow feelings towards eachother, Belle was allowed to go free around the castle, she later takes him back to the castle after he saved her from the wolves, she decides to stay with him because of his growing compasion, Beast lets Belle go because he learned to love her and understood her feelings for her father

The internet is a fickle mistress.
Fun fact: Akira Toriyama credits 101 Dalmatians as what inspired him to start drawing as a child. It's funny to think that Dragon Ball might not exist without it.
But wait, it gets even better. One animater and character designer for 101 Dalmations is Iwao Takamoto. While his name isn't too familar, he was a huge contribution to animation in the 1960s, especally within Hanna Barbara. After leaving an internment camp after WW2 (He was japanese american), Takamoto took his lessons about art from the internment camps, made a portfollio and was hired by Disney Studios to animate and design some little known films you might know... Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan and 101 Dalmations.
and that's not all. He also designed most of the characters in Hanna Barbara after leaving Disney to work there - Namely Scooby Doo.
So not only was he one of the biggest contributers to the animation industry in the 20th century, he also helped inspire Dragon Ball.
Takamoto honestly needs more credit, he did so much work for the animation industry and doesn't even scratch the surface of how much Asian people influenced the film industry as we know it.

The thing with The Fox and the Hound portraying the relationship going too fast is actually quite genius in my opinion, children are very innocent and consider any kid that likes to spend time with them their friend, and are actually quite easily attached to them. Although the movie is one of my favorites because of how realistic and "not afraid to cross boundaries with realism" it is, I think that the only problem with it is Todd's girlfriend. It would have been way more impactful if it had only been him being chased at by Copper and it would honestly be one of the best disney movies objectively if it had happened like that.
Yeah, it's mostly due to the book it's based off, where Todd's mates and kits are all hunted down whenever he gets them even as he outruns the hunter and dogs. Obviously they didn't go down that darker route, but him having a mate was a part of the story.
I think that Todd having a mate wouldn't be so bad had they not given it that much screen time in the movie's second half. Then it could be like "Oh no, Todd has another loved one to protect in this climax!" without it feeling like the romantic montage takes up too much of the movie.

Thank you for putting Hunchback in your Top 10. I was really pleasantly surprised by that. It is my favourite Disney movie, mostly because it doesn't even feel like a Disney film at all, sometimes, due to how dark and mature it is. Is it perfect? Of course not, and I will admit that it does suffer from some pretty bad tonal whiplash. But what it does well, it does EXTREMELY well. And Hellfire is a masterpiece all on its own, nevermind the rest of the film. We will probably never see Disney go this dark again and so I treasure it all the more for that. And the music had NO BUSINESS being as phenomenal as it was! Thank you!!!
1:52:46 my "oh my god I just realised" moment in the movie years later was about Punch the fish, lilo sayes she has to make him a sandwich that's peanut butter and freaked out about only having tuna saying "it would be an abomination" and she takes this vary seriously, she also sayes that Punch controls the weather, soon later on when Lilo is in her room crying and talking about her family, she sayed something about thar being a big storm (witch presumably is a tropical storm or somethingjust as destructive) that killed her family, so putting that all with Punch the fish and her being the only one who seems to feed him a peanut butter sandwich that she probably tried giving him a tuna sandwich (or something like that) and later on a tropical storm passed threw killing a good chunk of her family and she blames herself for them dieing
Fun fact: the three Caballeros was Disney's first time combining animation with real life actors. In its own way, the short is groundbreaking, because without it, there would never have been a Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

As a Pacific Islander, Lilo and Stitch and Moana are my _ride or die._ Both of them taught me to appreciate my cultural roots and Moana and Lilo are genuinely amazing protagonists.
I'm not an islander myself, but I am Native American and those two movies leave me so badly wishing more movies focused around native people, cultures, and stories would be made. In fact, I've been drawing inspiration from Pacific Islander cultures for a personal project of mine and I can only hope I can do it justice.

I think the part that makes me so mad at Enchanto, is how they marketed Isabella. In the end, they ignored her entire arc of the perfect girl but in all the merchandise, that's the girl we see. We don't see the girl who found her flaws and accepted it, the girl who wants to be herself for herself. It's her pink dress that stood out and not her creative darker dress, after her arc. I think this has always been an issue with Disney but one of the most recent examples is this.

I think the slower pace of older Disney movies is actually a plus too them, these movies are made for younger audiences and the super quirky fast paced just overload that the new movies have just aren’t great for kids and their mental development

So, fun fact. Chief was originally supposed to die after being hit by a train. A lot of the animators and writers REALLY pushed for Chief's death, to properly motivate Copper's and the hunter's quest for revenge against Tod.
But ultimately, the directors at Disney refused to kill off a major character in a kids film.
Which was the straw that broke the camel's back and led to a bunch of Disney animators, including Don Bluth, to walk out and form their own studio.
Which as you know, eventually led to Don Bluth's team's movies to out competing Disney in the box office.
Which led to Disney kicking it up a notch and launching the Disney Renaissance.
All because Disney wouldn't let anyone die in Fox and the Hound.
On another note, I find it very funny that Schaff listed all the characters he thought would die when in fact in the original novel "Fox and the Hound" nearly all the characters he listed die.
Chief is killed when Tod tricks him onto a train track and gets run over. Tod's mates and offspring are killed again and again by Copper and the Hunter out of vengeance. Tod eventually dies of exhaustion in a final chase between him and Copper, and Copper himself in his old tired age is euthanized by the hunter.
yeah, I distinctly remember watching this movie and thinking that Copper turned on Tod way too quickly. If Chief actually died that would've made more sense.

That’s crazy. I get both sides. Fox and the Hound is still really dark even without Chief actually dying. It would’ve certainly made the film more powerful if he died in the accident.
I appreciate how Aurora is more angular than other princesses. She has a sharp, tall face, and her hair isn't all circles, its rounded corners. The art style of that movie is just so beautiful and inspiring to me.

Mary Blair was a big part of why that movie looks the way it does. She was such a phenomenal artist that Disney gave her much more creative input than other women at the studio, who only did ink and paint.

As a native Alaskan, I really loved Brother Bear and it's sequel growing up, mainly because it was SO REFRESHING to see representation of myself and my home that isn't chock full of THE MOST annoying stereotypes that you grow up hearing all the time. I am really curious to see how much I'd like it with a re watch nowadays.
Same!! It was one of my all-time favorites because it dealt with home turf. Even now it still brings a smile to my face whenever I watch it because it holds such a dear place in my heart. Would definitely recommend a rewatch; it may not be the best 2000’s Disney movie but it’s still charming in its own right - and the scenes with Koda learning about his mother’s death is still emotional.
I say don’t rewatch; You’ll probably just find disappointment. I’m gonna get hanged for this but this was one instance the critics were right IMO.
I don’t care what anyone says, the joke where the older female bear is talking about her late husband and you hear an old male voice say offscreen “STOP TELLING EVERYONE I’M DEAD” sends me into outer space and the movie deserves to exist for that joke alone.

watching the Snow White part right now, and I do want to give a shoutout to the original Disney animators, aka "The Nine Old Men". They were all insanely talented and for all of them to be in one place at one time is really the main reason animation took off so quickly so early on in its existence. They largely created A LOT of the conventions we animators use today and deserve all the respect we can give them

My dad told me about the great mouse detective when I was a boy, I basically had the exact same reaction as you when I finally watched it with him using a free trial of Netflix. Still S+ material from Disney, shame they don't do complex all to much nowadays
I'm from Mexico and for many Mexicans, The Three Caballeros is a masterpiece.
The way Panchito presents Mexico City, Jalisco and Acapulco is very funny, the art style is glorious in the animated segments and the mexican dub is perfect for the songs and the characters.
You have to listen the main song in mexican dub.

Well, I think Panchito is quite similar to the mariachis or charros that are in mexican movies.
Pachito is build around Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante that makes him a great representation of the stars of Mexican cinema of the time

From a biased mexican who loves the 3 caballeros: the costumes and cultural info Panchito gives is accurate, Posadas and piñatas are still huge in mexico and I'm sure it was more so in the 50s. Both him and José were voiced by people from their respective country and also dubbed the 3 versions (English, Portuguese and Spanish).

Fox & the Hound: The older hound was actually *supposed* to die in the original story. A large number of the staff wanted the character to die off, as to raise the stakes and create a proper motivation for the rift between Copper and Todd. Disney refused to have a named character die on screen, though, as it didn't fit the 'values' they were promoting at the time. This was, ultimately, the reason Don Bluth left Disney to do his own thing.
On that note Don Bluth movies ranked when? I know NIMH is a automatic number 1

As a Brazilian I can assure that a lot of Brazilians really, really like José Carioca as he captures Brazilian people so well and plus his voice actor José Oliveira was an actual Brazilian, he did his voice in English and Portuguese so José doesn't the spanish accent he has in the modern stuff he shows up

The longer it took Hercules to show up the happier I got. Seriously I can’t put into words what that movie does to me. It came out when I was 6 and I was TRANSFIXED. The anachronistic whimsical storytelling paired with the swirly saturated art style and powerful gospel music was pure magic. The voice acting was perfect. I was in love with Meg but also wanted to be her, and here we are now 25 years later and that’s still the case. Every song is an absolute bop and I will never tire of listening.
And your suggestion of Bob Odenkirk taking Woods’ place is genius, he would absolutely kill it.

I never really watched a lot of Disney movies when I was little but that scene where Hercules tries to save Meg's soul and almost dies himself somehow burned itself into my mind, it's a core memory from my childhood even though I only saw the movie about once or twice. I somehow found it very creepy and unsettling but in a good way, it's hard to describe.

I think the success of Frozen is almost entirely a testament to how amazing of a singer Idina Menzel really is.
Also, it was one of the earlier 3D animated princess movies, and Tangled was about Rapunzel who people were already familiar with, so it felt fresh.

Just because someone can sing doesn't mean his/her song is automatically great. Let It Go contradicts Elsa's power struggle more than anything else. It's not about the grandiose performance and how well someone can sing; It's the about the intense emotion and feeling what's happening during the song. That's what makes musicals truly amazing. I don't feel the trauma of Elsa's power struggle during Let It Go.

I personally think that the og Cinderella portrayed true love really well, especially for the time it came out. Cinderella and the Prince spend hours together just enjoying each other's company not having to speak to each other. Cinderella completely forgot why she was there in the first place, just having fun with some random guy not even realizing he was the prince. The Prince probably thought she was only spending time with him because he was the prince and was surprised when she didn't even know who he was. They both fell in love with each other without having to say a word and somehow that's better than most modern Disney love stories.
I think they did talk to each other while walking the grounds. But it was shown as a dialogue-less montage.

I don't understand why people think they didn't conversate in the first place. Like you think they just sat there dancing and lovingly looking into each others eyes for an hour? I find them honestly adorable. Cinderella was just happy to find someone who didn't treat her awfully, and the Prince was probably just happy that someone was spending time with him for him instead of doing so because he's a prince. I don't think it takes much to simply infer on what happened and why they fell in love, but maybe I'm just being too harsh.

Bro, in fourth grade, we were going on a field trip and they had TVs in the backs of the seats, and for the ENTIRE EIGHT or NINE HOURS on that bus, it was just CHICKEN LITTLE ON REPEAT. I was dying inside, along with many, MANY others...and Kronk is the best Disney princess by FAR. (also, love the Llamas With Hats reference)

As a Mexican, I loved The Three Caballeros as a kid! It made me appreciate my culture so much more and Panchito and Jose were so cool! Was it random? Yes. But it was also super colorful and beautiful to watch, especially learning about the different cultures, traditions, and dances shown in the movie.

Plus the history behind it being a propaganda piece to have mexico be an ally to Mexico if you ignore the corporatocracy implications is a really sweet gesture showing how close the countries are in terms of brotherhood and not just being a couple countries next to each other and that's it

I cried every time at the heartbreaking scene of betrayal, loved the chemistry between Ralph and Vanellope, and always laughed at the scene where Ralph is like, "... I didn't see anything, nuh-uh," when he stole a cherry. (My sister and I still sing the SugarRush theme song at each other)
Because of my love of the movie, I always watched it from the very beginning to the very end. Because of this, I saw the glitching Ralph going to the Disney logo. Every time I saw it, I would go to my mom, "See, it's gonna get a sequel! I know it will!" (She didn't believe me, but she humored me)
I wish I was wrong, I really do. I was so excited when I heard about it that even though I was ten years older, I still begged my mom let me watch it. I still remember hearing my heart break like glass on how they ruined my most prized movie. With how Ralph was treated as a total idiot and disgustingly clingy with Vanellope, how Vanellope was so willing to ruin the game she spent so long trying to participate in for a little more fun, the way the story just felt wrong. My hatred for that movie is unmatched. I even wrote my own adaptation of the sequel I thought Wreck-It Ralph deserved. :(
It's good to know that there's people who adore Wreck it Ralph as much as I do. Such a great movie with beautiful animation, awesome worlds, great characters, and an amazingly thought out story.

Having grown up with a lot of Disney movies, Atlantis came really late in my viewing experience having only watched it last month, but holy cow it’s an instant favorite! The diverse cast that would have no business meeting each other and having hilarious chemistry if not for embarking on a journey that is set in a super cool environment. The whole concept of Atlantis was not what I expected but was so much better than what I did expect. Easily top 5 for me, and I’m glad it shot so high up this list as well.
It's my head canon that Schafrillas only put Dinosaur in last so that the title card for chicken little makes sense

There’s no way. Jesus. I grew up watching Lilo and Stitch and yeah I might have a bias for it. But I’m so glad I am not alone with my strong love for it. She’s a literally a child, so she’s bound to be childish and have her “bratty” moments. But she’s incredibly mature and intelligent and you can see that clearly by how Nani reacts. The dramatic moments in this movie still stands strong in my eyes even to this days. She just lost both of her key figures in her life, her parents. So she will act out, cause mischiefs and be late to her classes because she’s trying to cope, and take photos because she wants to remember the good times like she did with her parents. And it was essential for Stitch’s arc. Some people need to realise if they don’t get it, if they can’t point out what is it that doesn’t work for them, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad movie.

I'm sure there are similar slights in our history that sparked blood feuds to last generations. It's not just about the invitation itself. It's about the acknowledgement that she's worthy of an invitation.
Let's not also forget what would happen if they had invited Maleficent. Aurora likely would've been given a gift on the same awe-inspiring power level as the curse she was given, but as a boon instead. Scary, maybe, but ultimately in her favor.

Rewatching this ranking in advance of a trip to Disneyland and, regarding your points on expanding on some of the family members in Encanto, I've just realized that you could remake the film from any family member's perspective and it would be just as engaging. Dinosaur being last and Chicken Little being second to last is the perfect example of "I'd rather be angry than bored."
Chicken little is trash but dinosaur is great. Aladar imo is paragon of a great leader. Super smart, doesnt give up, considerate, brave. Theres also Lots of tension cuz theyre always on the run from predators, and you never know if theyll reach their destination. At the end, Against all the odds, with aladar even feeling beat at the end, we got the side characters (ima) to finally help out our main character. Often times movies would have sucky sidecharacters, or the main character doing everything, which is boring. At the end, aladar got the gril and we got a happy ending. Well deserved. So yes, its a fun and rewatchable movie. I rank it 9/10, only cuz u have other legendary movies finding nemo, toy story, etc

I don't know if I've said this on another video of yours already, but Dinosaur deserves to be bottom of the list for another reason you didn't mention: its failure at the box office caused Disney to panic and slash the budget for Atlantis. The second act was gutted and the ending had to be completely rewritten, because it was going to have a much bigger final battle AND the revelation that the Crystal was an alien entity that crash landed on Earth millenia ago and was discovered by the Atlanteans. It was a miracle that what we got was as good as it ended up being. Either way you are not alone and I stand with you in defense of Atlantis; it's a fantastic movie, personally my favorite, and it was way ahead of its time.
Ironically, *Dinosaur* was the most financially successful WDAS film at the box office between *Tarzan* and *Tangled* at least in terms of raw gross (I don't know about profitability).

I personally think Encanto’s “Waiting On A Miracle” is one of the most criminally underrated Disney songs. I remember first hearing it and it felt like such an impassioned, genuine, and emotional plea. It reminded me of Part Of Your World from The Little Mermaid. An amazing Disney “I want” song.

Hey Shaffrillas! I think the best cinderella adaptation I watched was the Drew Barimore one. They give each characters a very grounded feeling and actually had arcs in the story. Hope you see this comment so you can give the movie a watch if you haven’t.

First time I watched encanto, I thought it was cool but it didn’t really stick with me. And then one night, was laying down in my living room, I decided to rewatch it out of bordem. I ended up paying attention the entire time and bawling my eyes out at the end. If you actually connect with and understand the story, it makes the whole experience 10x more magnificent. Amazing movie, first Disney movie that’s ever made me cry.

i definitely second an individual video on why lilo & stitch is such a great film. i feel like the majority of folks like/love lilo & stitch, but i don't see many people talk about WHY they love it. and why is lilo & stitch such a great movie.
for me, lilo & stitch is my favorite disney film and has been ever since i was a child. it made a lasting impression on me and growing up as an undiagnosed autistic person it made me feel less alone. because i SAW MYSELF in both lilo & stitch. two characters that were misunderstood, confused and lonely, just wanting to be heard and understood. and as an adult, it's not just my favorite disney movie, it's not even my favorite animated movie. it's my favorite movie of all time.
a lot of my feelings on l&s are very personal but stepping out of just nostalgia and comfort, the movie, in its own regard, is definitely a marvel that it came out so well. since a lot of the movies that were coming out of disney at the time weren't doing too hot, AND if you factor in the stuff that had to get partially/entirely reanimated in a rush because of the effects of 9/11, PLUS the marketing, which, REALLY focused on the aliens and might've gave audiences, not the wrong idea but a HEIGHTENED idea of how prominent and how goofy the aliens might be. in other words, going in expecting a fun quirky space comedy but actually getting this emotionally rich story and excellent character work between its two leads.

I find that the people who get offendedthe most have absolutely no relation to the culture whatsoever. I've seen these videos of white people dressing up in a sombrero and poncho or a kafiyah for example and the only people who care are those not from the Hispanic or Muslim cultures.

Saludos Amigos created Ze Carioca (i don't know how you called the green bird outside Brazil) and since today we use he for merchandise, like for clothes in carnival. and a years ago he had HQs where he are the main character. i born in rio and makes me happy to see a character from rio in the disney movies.

Tbh i was very confused why they put that 'The mission of The Walt Disney' statement. It was never mocking our culture or people. And as for the caricatures, they weren't ugly or *overly* exaggerated for comedic effect. It actually sparked up some pride in me for my culture and the appreciative approach they took for the film.

I actually consider Alice to be one of the best Disney protagonists before the Renaissance era. She starts out as a ditzy and curious young girl who wants to live in a world where there are no rules and logic, but later learns the importance of Logic and how everything will go downhill if there was TOO much Nonsense. She may have a simplistic character arc, but it can be relatable for children her age.
Imagine if after he made all of those promises at the start of the video and still forgot a movie lol.

i feel like the small details in Lady and the Tramp like Lady thinking her owners names are “darling” and “dear” because they always refer to each other as such is just an adorable added detail that makes me love this movie so much more. it’s such a wholesome movie so i couldn’t rank it low. but i can see how it’s boring at times.
I wouldn't call the movie boring. It might not be high-stakes and it's definitely a slow burn, but the characters are solid and the romance is excellent (I'm not sure where Schaff is coming from when he says that he didn't like the romance). Not every movie needs a clear three-act structure; sometimes, it's nice to see a movie where the characters just go about their lives. Also, the rat DOES appear earlier in the film. Schaff is obviously entitled to his opinion, but I feel as if he's being way too harsh on the movie.
@@talhahhussain5603 i completely agree! i don’t find the movie boring at all, but that’s usually the complaint people make when criticizing this movie. and yeah i didn’t understand his complaint over the romance considering that was the overarching theme of the movie; their romance makes sense to me. i’ve always considered this a classic walt disney film. the character designs are great, the songs are lovely and the ending ties everything up nicely. this is a movie that’s always resonated with me so it was hard to hear his lack of appreciation for it but can’t win them all i guess!

The animation in that film is so beautiful. Disney at that time was showing off their animation and new tech really instead of focusing on the plot of the film. Same with sleeping beauty. But those films are gorgeous and are high rank imp

Thing about brother bear is that for a long time, it was the third best representation for indigenous people in animation. It has gone down, but I and many others still have a soft spot for it. It also helps that the interactions between Keenai and Kota remind me a lot of hanging out with my younger cousins
The crazy thing about Brother Bear for me and why I can necessarily “hate” it… is because… I shit you not… it was the first movie I had ever seen in my life. Like the movie had just came out when I was born and my brother finally had a little brother… so it really was just the perfect movie for us. As I grew up… I’m accepting if people thing otherwise… but… it holds a significant place in my life

That’s exactly why I watched it and all I got out of it was a movie I immediately forgot about after watching.
Not only is beautiful, Beauty and the Beast is what started to make everyone take animation more seriously due to the oscar and also the dancing scene was technically revolutionary too with the angles, the movements and the "camera work". Snow White, 101 Dalmatians, Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast at least to me are the most important milestones on 2D animation.

However I ignore if they aport some kind of inovation to the industry, newest milestone in animation I know was the movie Klaus with the 2D with 3D look which is non-Disney but I don't know if Japan has something similar.
@@OcioCamaraMx You just said "the most important milestones on 2D animation" and to be fair it's not a stretch to assume that somebody thought all the major milestones were hit by Walt Disney Animation Studios. I'm not familiar with Klaus, but looking at the trailer, it doesn't really look like hand-drawn 3D or anything, it just looks like computer-animated 2D with soft shading and no outlines. I think most animators still use cel-style shading and outlines for 2D (and often 3D, which is done in probably a majority of both western "2D" animations and eastern/anime at this point, but some anime are certainly entirely done that way, eg the infamous 2016 Berserk anime) regardless of whether it's hand-drawn or CG, because it gives the hand-drawn (and therefore more "authentic") aesthetic. I can't actually think of an anime off the top of my head that heavily uses soft shading like that, but it's nothing revolutionary; It's a matter of a digital artist using a soft brush instead of a hard brush but otherwise doing the exact same thing.

Pinocchio wasn't punished for trusting Honest John, he was punished for making the active decision to skip school even after his conscious told him not to
Exactly. One of the things that bugged me of the recent remake was that Pinocchio actually listened to his father and his conscious and tried to go to school, but was kicked out. Instead of him misbehaving and skipping school on purpose, he isn't allowed to go; he tries to do the right thing, but they don't let him, so what can he do? He tries plan B to become famous.
Not doing anything naughty on Pleasure Island was also a poor writing decision. The whole version was like those idiots who say "You're not the problem, you're not bad, you've done nothing wrong! It's all society's fault! You're already a perfect angel and there's nothing about yoursef that needs to be improved!"
Pinocchio making mistakes is what actually drives the plot forward and his character actually develops throughout the film.

The problem is that it's not like Pinocchio did said actions out of selfishness, but because he's kind of naive and the fact that his father doesn't take him to school himself. If anything I feel that the lesson the Blue Fairy should teach Pinocchio is that if he wants to become a real boy, he must learn to function in a world without a "brain" or "heart", since "wooden puppets don't have those things" and it's up to Pinocchio to prove he can tell the difference from right and wrong.
