Many snotty congratulations in completing this. At Penistone there used to be an electrified line which is the old Woodhead platforms which you both saw, the electric services used to go from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield Victoria, the passenger service finished in January 1970, and closed completely to freight in July 1981. Passenger services from Huddersfield to Sheffield used to go via Deepcar until May 1983 from when they were diverted via Barnsley. The Woodhead Route was formally the Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire railway which then went though Brigg to Cleethorpes.
You asked about the Sheffield Canal and if it's open again? Well from the beginning of 2023 the Canal towpath is well and truly open all the way from Sheffield to Rotherham Canal basin and just a short walk from there, is Rotherham Railway Station, so at least you won't get lost. If you get the chance, take the Canal towpath all the way to Sheffield Victoria Quays that's where it ends, and I must say it's a beautiful place to end the journey from the Rotherham end. I do it regularly and never get tired of it. Anyway hope I've been of some help to you now? Ps. Love the bow tie 😍 must say it stands out a bit lol 🤣 wish I was brave enough to wear something like that 😂. Anyway my lovely Happy New Year 2024 and hope to lookout for some more interesting videos to come .
Really enjoyed the series, great to see how genuine you are, love the landscape phrases & your confidence levels from the early north west episodes looks to have improved so much. Keep up the great work
Such a funny little town in Yorkshire Penistone is. I definitely would like to go there one day hence the name. Wish that the Woodhead Line would have still existed so that you would have gone from Sheffield to Manchester much quicker. That the former Woodhead Line was electrified.
And secondly if you ever get another chance in the Elsecar area, go and visit the Elsecar Heritage Centre Museum, it's a lovely little place with a lot to see and do, it's even got it's own Heritage Railway too, but sadly is closed, but you can go and have a look around to see what is left, plus there's a lovely canal walk in the area too.
Watched all these over the last week or two, the NW ones before, they are brilliant, thank you as you inspiring me to get out a bit more, without going in to detail, I hadn't left Blackpool at all for over 3 years, last week, I went to Preston, Kirkham and Lytham by bus and on Friday Wigan by train. Despite getting very stressed in Blackpool North, I got on and got there, had a little wander round the town and the big park near by. Actually enjoyed myself 😁
Well done completing your huge mission. I'm looking forward to watching more of your humorous, informative and well put together video masterpieces during 2024. Best wishes to you both, Andy
Well done for completing another great series you have done an amazing job, Yorkshire and Humberside it has been brilliant to watch you enjoying your work every thing you said you wanted to do you have completed to an amazing standard, look forward to your next series what ever it may be 👍👍✅✅
Great vlog G and congratulations on visiting everyone station in Yorkshire and Humber. Penistone is a station I wanna visit lol. I enjoyed watching as always.
Thanks for the final video in the series, a few interesting station names there lol. Looking forward to seeing everything in 2024, Happy New year to you G and Lucy!!💚💙
that's my local line, that is! (I live round the corner from Elsecar station) Elsecar is a very quiet area in general, and besides having the heritage centre, it has an enormous park on the fringes - but they're both a good 20 minute walk from the station, down a steep hill also, the 'w' in Dodworth is silent ("dod-uth"), but to be fair, even the automated announcers get this wrong
Congratulations on completing another series, G! I will remember this one for the unusual designs of footbridges and ramps, plentiful post pick-up points (as you pointed out) and some lovely stations to visit. Hope you enjoy making more videos in the new year and that you and Lucy have a great 2024!
Before the woodhead line closed in 1981 trains went direct from Sheffield to Huddersfield via penistone but after closure the longer route via Barnsley which meant new stations for dodworth silkstone which was only used for coal traffic from dodworth colliery , I am playing the G loves trains drinking game and having a drink every time you say penis lol
Great achievement well done G another great Vblog to finish your series looking forward to next year's adventures you have planed happy new year to u and Lucy 👍🤗
First of all a massive congratulations on visiting every station in Yorkshire & the Humber ive really enjoyed this series & as always its been very helpful & Yorkshire def has some lovely stations & some which ive seen for myself talking of which i visited Penistone while i was up in Leeds earlier this year & its a lovely station & i visited it at the last minute as i was in Huddesfield at the time & i originally planned to do Slaithwaite but TPE were being TPE so i did Penistone instead & that line is a lovely line to ride & im loving all the other stations awesome vlog keep up the awesome work
Brilliant video G and congrats on visiting all the stations in Yorkshire and the Humber. Good old Penistone lol, I've only been through there, I'll have to get out sometime and view that amazing viaduct and that old turntable as well. I look forward to eeing more videos from you in the new year. :)
Well done and congratulations for completing another 'Exploring...' series G. I think this series has had the best scenery and I was glad to see the viaduct again, I could see you were trying (successfully for the most part) to suppress your giggles and/or smiles at Penistone, I love the British sense of humour. Looking forward to the next one (vlog and Exploring... series). Stay safe.
Well done on the completition of another series! It's been most enjoyable. Any idea where you might go next? Part of me wants to suggest West Midlands, if only because it's where I live. But Scotland would be really cool! (Even if you have to have 4 hour waits and can only do 3 stations per vlog!)
Well done G, great achievement to tick off all those stations. Love the 7th Doctor look including the umbrella! Happy New Year to you both and happy training next year!
Congratulations! Love the bow tie. The last time I had to dress up formally before I transitioned, I wore a pink and white shirt with a pale blue bow tie, and as you might expect it was far too subtle for any of the cis people around me to notice.
Very cool, well done for completing this area. When are you gonna do the North East? :P I was just thinking I don't know if I would be able to do any more stations before the new year. Then I remembered, I'm going to do the Huddersfield to Leeds direct route tomorrow after visiting a friend. Maybe I'll work from my start point towards Huddersfield, then head back to leeds via Bradford, do the last 3 stations on the airedale/wharfedale lines, and then do the last bit of the direct route on my way back to the car.
I don't know what it is about watching someone visit a part of the country you live in and already know but it's fascinating and you do it well! Hopefully the Elsecar Heritage Railway will reopen one day and you can go and see that if you're ever in the area again.
A lovely Boxing Day to have the completion of Exploring Yorkshire And The Humber By Train series. To tot up, you've been to every: North West stations, North Wales stations and now Yorkshire and the Humber stations.
Did you get an I survived wombwell park badge , it once had tennis courts and a bowling green plus cafe and a nice cast iron band stand which the council sold to a place down south .
By 'eck G, that was a windy, grey day to begin filming! I'm determined to get myself on a train at least once over the holidays - at least, that is the plan! Spotted an unusual sight up my way a few days back - one of Network Rail's yellow track survey trains, hauled by a pair of Class 43's. Neat bow-tie and braces combo there!
Dent station is my fav because i'd walked from Gardale in a proper snow blizzard, and when i got there i could'nt believe my ears. There was a young lad with an acoustic guitar playing " The times they are a changing". He was as surprised to see me as i was him. He said he goes up there for "inspiration". Never forget it. That train could'nt come quick enough, er, not because of his playing, but it was double brass monkeys. I've never been more "enthusiastic" to see a Sprinter !! Good luck with ya channel, btw, although i do'nt think ya need it. You lend "a pleasant aspect" to proceedings. Dodworth is pronounced Dodath, btw. Mind you, ya're a foreigner, so i'll let you off this time.
Well done happy bouncy g, you’ve finally done it. It was always going to be challenging. I kinda want you to continue region by region until you’ve done them all, but you’ve got a busy life to lead so don’t rush. If you get round to the West Midlands, maybe skip stations you’ve already vlogged about
I'm sure G knows how it should be pronounced. But with Wombwell, I've always called it Womwell, but seems G is right, and I am wrong. In fact whilst I knew about the body part included in Penistone, I'd never picked up that within Wombwell, because you'd never think of that when pronounced the way I used to. Also always amused by G's pronounciation of "Buses", although in this video she says it properly once !!
Welcome G to the people’s republic of South Yorkshire And the jewel in its crown Barnsley ( which was twinned with west Beirut , Mogadishu and Hiroshima but is no longer due to improvements new buildings and a clean up to west Beirut Mogadishu and Hiroshima lol ),
Well done good series hope you come over to Syorks in future and we coincidentally meet each other In person that would be something 😀 congratulations all the same.
Meadowhall is sort of a high and low level platform station except not one where they cross each other like say Retford or Smethwick. The Leeds platforms are much higher up than the Doncaster ones.
Now, my knowledge of English railways is not exactly comprehensive, but was the Woodhead route the one with the odd, non-standard electrification scheme?
Yes, it was 1500 volts DC, although it wasn't unique, as the Great Eastern line from London Liverpool Street to Shenfield originally used the same voltage before being converted to AC, and this system is also in use on the Tyne and Wear Metro
@@iana6713 there's an impressive collection of rail knowledge here that's for sure and a lot of very nice people, G has fostered a little oasis of cool nice people 🙂
0:51 GLovesTrains should be the new station announcer over the speakers.

Happy new year!
The best way for me to be able to visit every station in this country is to cycle in between them each
Another well made vlog as always, the best part was definitely PENIStone lol ❤
Agreed! 😂
Penistone funny name. Great series G loved it, the bow tie was too 😁

Well done G
Such a shame the Woodhead line got closed, nice to see a remnant.

Hard to believe penistone was on an electrified main line between Sheffield and Manchester .

@18:13 How long did it take you to edit this short (16 second) section ?
Too long 😂
Well done on completing all the stations in Yorkshire. Also, where's your blonde hair gone?
I love your positivity - it would be easy to be snidey about some of the places you've visited. Not Penistone though - it's very nice.
