With Me is the final boss theme of Sonic and the Black Knight. That game has one of the best stories in the Sonic series.

It's an absolutely beautiful love letter to the little blue guy that I've loved for some reason I can't even remember for all these years!

I feel like Sega was trying do something similar to Kingdom Hearts by putting cartoon characters in a final fantasy type game. Honestly, if they gave it enough time to finish the project correctly, it could have been the greatest Sonic game of all time. What's your thoughts on Sonic 06?
Glad you enjoyed it! And I honestly feel most of Sonic 06’s problems lie in the buggy gameplay and rushed execution of the story. The overall concept/idea of the game is actually not bad in my opinion. Obviously being a fan of Kingdom Hearts, I like the idea they were trying to manifest. Being a game developer and story writer myself, I understand how gameplay and story execution are the two factors that can either make or break a game and it’s clear Sonic 06 was rushed. There’s even parts in the game that have dialogue from retconned concepts in the story like (e.g: accidentally leaving in dialogue referring to the ‘book of darkness’ instead of ‘sceptre of darkness’). Also with the ‘scene’ that everyone hates, I feel Sonic and Elise’s relationship should have been one of friendship, it didn’t need romance. If they made the story so that Elise’s Father forbade Elise from having any friends in her life (due to the risk of heartbreak and thus the risk of crying) then Sonic, being Elise’s first and only friend she meets, would still leave an impact on Elise enough to make her cry after he died (In fact, it would be even more emotional, since Sonic would be her first and only friend who just died in front of her; she would be feeling those emotions for the first time and thus the grief would be at an all time high). And if they still wanted to use the ‘revive the protagonist with a gesture of affection to their corpse’ cliche, then they could have made him come back to life from Elise’s teardrops (as she’s crying over Sonic), since they’re ‘special’ in this universe. After using the chaos emeralds to try to revive Sonic, they don’t work and she gets frustrated, she then realises that her tears could work due to their power, but amidst her frustration, she tries to fight her tears because she torn since she knows that it would trigger Iblis (or make him more powerful) and she’d be guilty as it would be her fault, then maybe Silver walks over to her and comforts her telling her it’s okay because it’ll save Sonic and he makes her a promise to defeat Iblis as soon as Sonic is revived (basically a lesser of 2 evils situation) and when Sonic revives, he Shadow and Silver have to fight an even stronger Iblis as a final boss.

Regarding the scene where Elise kiss Sonic, until I heard everyone else's complaints about it, I simply did not have a problem with the scene. Maybe because I was expose to old cartoons as a child and seeing cartoon human characters (mainly female) kissing a cartoon anthropomorphous animals (mainly males) wasn't anything out of the norm. Honestly, I see anthropomorphous animals no different then humans in most media because other then their looks, they never act like the animals they are suppose to be (Ex: When was the last time you saw Knuckles eating ants?). I do like you suggestion on how to improve Elise and Sonic's relationship though, and if Sega would ever consider remaking this game then they need to address some plot holes left unanswered (Ex: If the Chaos Emeralds can bring people back to life like they did with Sonic, then why haven't Shadow use them to revive Maria at any point before this game?).

Looking back on it, their interactions and chemistry were quite cute (besides the stiff dialogue), but I still feel that it wasn’t needed for Sonic’s death to have an impact on Elise and it could have been even more emotionally heavy even if they were just friends. Personally, my only issue with the kiss scene is that while Elise is doing the ritual and kisses Sonic, there’s almost no emotion at all, she has a straight face during the whole thing. I think that **maybe** the scene might have been tolerated more if she was on the verge of tears, then you feel sorry for her and can emphasise with how she feels, thus making the kiss more ‘understandable’ - she loved Sonic, she feels desperation, fear and her feelings for him have flared since his death as she misses him. If we could see that visually, then maybe she could’ve gotten away with the kiss. Which is why the actual kiss itself, I don’t mind too much, but due to the lack of emotional build up to it, due to how rushed it was in the scene, it ended up feeling not needed. Also, the chaos emeralds’ power has never been consistent with the plot through the Sonic franchise 😂🤷🏾♂️. It’s come to a point where the best you can do is simply to ignore the inconsistencies since it’s too late to undo them. But they will have to create an answer for that soon to fix those plot holes if they want to continue having them as a central part of the games’ plot.
