Here’s a song I know a lot of you have been eager for me to cover and has been requested to me many times, so enjoy! :D
The reason I’ve finally decided to do it after so long is because, due to how repetitive the original song’s instrumentals are (since the majority of His World’s melodic content is centred on the vocals), it was quite a challenge to come up with a creative instrumental cover that isn’t just the main two riffs looped for the entire piece. Because of this, in my arrangement, I have done my best to give this song as much instrumental content as possible, including new musical developments to the original, all while staying relatively true to the original song. For example, the bridge part in the ‘Solaris Phase 2’ version of ‘His World’ is used more as a pre-chorus in this arrangement providing the contrast the piece needs so that it doesn’t sound monotonous. I’ve also thrown in a few Easter eggs in the piece (you’ll know when you hear them ;) ).
Also, doing a piano and cello (and strings) only cover for the first time was WAY more of a challenge than I initially thought it was going to be... Walking into this 5 days ago, I thought “hmm.. just two instruments, yeah this’ll be much easier than my normal orchestral covers”, but there ended up being so much more I had to consider and pay attention to musically now. With orchestral covers, if one instrument’s tonal range doesn’t reach the pitch you want it to, you can compensate that with another instrument. Also, it’s easier to switch up which instrument carries the melody in an orchestral cover and the cello rarely ever takes that role, however with just piano and cello, you have to work without those luxuries and honestly, I have learned so much through doing this cover and I’m glad I decided to do it that way as it’s improved my musical skill a lot.
I also hope you enjoyed the Purpose ‘Main Theme’ feature in the video. For those who are new to my videos, in every video I do, I reserve a segment where I seamlessly weave in a short mashup of whatever cover I’m doing with the main theme of ‘Purpose’. Purpose is a CGI animated project split into a video game and an animated series; both which I am solo developing. The game (Purpose: VERSUS) is an Action RPG and is currently in development. I just found this. Everything about the dramatic tone just works. When I heard that little Fist Bump reference at 5:20, I was so happy to see that be included. I'm one of the few people who actually liked a lot of the things Sonic '06 had, namely the music. Hearing this just reminds me of how great the community behind the Sonic series can be. Stephen, let me say, this is a great cover of His World I have ever heard. His World is one of my all time favorite Sonic songs. Would you care to do an epic orchestral cover of With Me? With Me is the final boss theme of Sonic and the Black Knight. That game has one of the best stories in the Sonic series.

Holy shit: I felt like I listened to the entire history of the adventure to modern era in 7 minutes! Honestly, Stephen, this is maybe the most genuinely epic thing you've produced yet! It's an absolutely beautiful love letter to the little blue guy that I've loved for some reason I can't even remember for all these years!

Thank you for creating such a good cover for this music. It was enjoyable. Still a shame though that Sonic 06 wasn't as good of a game as it could been. I feel like Sega was trying do something similar to Kingdom Hearts by putting cartoon characters in a final fantasy type game. Honestly, if they gave it enough time to finish the project correctly, it could have been the greatest Sonic game of all time. What's your thoughts on Sonic 06?
Glad you enjoyed it! And I honestly feel most of Sonic 06’s problems lie in the buggy gameplay and rushed execution of the story. The overall concept/idea of the game is actually not bad in my opinion. Obviously being a fan of Kingdom Hearts, I like the idea they were trying to manifest. Being a game developer and story writer myself, I understand how gameplay and story execution are the two factors that can either make or break a game and it’s clear Sonic 06 was rushed. There’s even parts in the game that have dialogue from retconned concepts in the story like (e.g: accidentally leaving in dialogue referring to the ‘book of darkness’ instead of ‘sceptre of darkness’). Also with the ‘scene’ that everyone hates, I feel Sonic and Elise’s relationship should have been one of friendship, it didn’t need romance. If they made the story so that Elise’s Father forbade Elise from having any friends in her life (due to the risk of heartbreak and thus the risk of crying) then Sonic, being Elise’s first and only friend she meets, would still leave an impact on Elise enough to make her cry after he died (In fact, it would be even more emotional, since Sonic would be her first and only friend who just died in front of her; she would be feeling those emotions for the first time and thus the grief would be at an all time high). And if they still wanted to use the ‘revive the protagonist with a gesture of affection to their corpse’ cliche, then they could have made him come back to life from Elise’s teardrops (as she’s crying over Sonic), since they’re ‘special’ in this universe. After using the chaos emeralds to try to revive Sonic, they don’t work and she gets frustrated, she then realises that her tears could work due to their power, but amidst her frustration, she tries to fight her tears because she torn since she knows that it would trigger Iblis (or make him more powerful) and she’d be guilty as it would be her fault, then maybe Silver walks over to her and comforts her telling her it’s okay because it’ll save Sonic and he makes her a promise to defeat Iblis as soon as Sonic is revived (basically a lesser of 2 evils situation) and when Sonic revives, he Shadow and Silver have to fight an even stronger Iblis as a final boss.
@@StephenDdunguMusic Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this game. I agree that a better execution to the story along with bug-free gameplay would have helped a lot. Regarding the scene where Elise kiss Sonic, until I heard everyone else's complaints about it, I simply did not have a problem with the scene. Maybe because I was expose to old cartoons as a child and seeing cartoon human characters (mainly female) kissing a cartoon anthropomorphous animals (mainly males) wasn't anything out of the norm. Honestly, I see anthropomorphous animals no different then humans in most media because other then their looks, they never act like the animals they are suppose to be (Ex: When was the last time you saw Knuckles eating ants?). I do like you suggestion on how to improve Elise and Sonic's relationship though, and if Sega would ever consider remaking this game then they need to address some plot holes left unanswered (Ex: If the Chaos Emeralds can bring people back to life like they did with Sonic, then why haven't Shadow use them to revive Maria at any point before this game?).
Ray Harnish III When I played the game back when I was 7, I saw nothing wrong with the relationship with Sonic and Elise either. Seems we had the same outlook as kids because I remember those kinds of relationships in cartoons were normal back in the day too. Looking back on it, their interactions and chemistry were quite cute (besides the stiff dialogue), but I still feel that it wasn’t needed for Sonic’s death to have an impact on Elise and it could have been even more emotionally heavy even if they were just friends. Personally, my only issue with the kiss scene is that while Elise is doing the ritual and kisses Sonic, there’s almost no emotion at all, she has a straight face during the whole thing. I think that **maybe** the scene might have been tolerated more if she was on the verge of tears, then you feel sorry for her and can emphasise with how she feels, thus making the kiss more ‘understandable’ - she loved Sonic, she feels desperation, fear and her feelings for him have flared since his death as she misses him. If we could see that visually, then maybe she could’ve gotten away with the kiss. Which is why the actual kiss itself, I don’t mind too much, but due to the lack of emotional build up to it, due to how rushed it was in the scene, it ended up feeling not needed.
Also, the chaos emeralds’ power has never been consistent with the plot through the Sonic franchise 😂🤷🏾♂️. It’s come to a point where the best you can do is simply to ignore the inconsistencies since it’s too late to undo them. But they will have to create an answer for that soon to fix those plot holes if they want to continue having them as a central part of the games’ plot.

Een though Sonic 06 is objectively a bad game i can't help but love it, and this rendition gives me even more reason to have this be my favorite Sonic song and think it's the best the franchise ever put out. And hearing it made me love it even more and makes me hurt a but thinking about all the lost potential that game had
