If you watched last week’s episode (you can check it out here: • HUGE SITE DISNEY’S FOR... ), you know that after 5 years of full-time RV travel, we finally made it to Disney’s Fort Wilderness!
Though this is very different from the RVing we usually do and more than we have ever spent on a campground by a whole lot, we are glad that we got to experience it with the girls. We only stayed three nights, but in that time, we were able to go to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure (sorry, Disney!), enjoy our huge and private campsite, spend a day enjoying the pool, and have an amazing dinner with one of our favorites - marinated steak tips! While at Fort Wilderness, we wanted to see how Disney’s transportation systems worked if you are staying on one of their properties. We took the boat from Fort Wilderness over to Magic Kingdom and then got on the Resort Monorail line which takes you around to all three Disney resorts. You can get off and walk around the resorts, eat at their restaurants and try out a Dole Whip at the Polynesian! We highly recommend the vanilla/pineapple swirl!
We checked out all three resorts and then headed back to the Contemporary to view the fireworks over the castle from the upper levels. We have seen this show from many locations (the castle, the beach at Fort Wilderness, and the lake at Thousand Trails Orlando), but this was one of the coolest! There are speakers all around the hotel that play the music that accompanies the show.
We jumped back on the monorail and headed back to the boat, very thankful that we weren’t waiting in the crazy lines of people leaving the park!

As a native Floridian I’ve been to Disney hundreds of times. I’ll be honest I’ve only seen the fireworks from the ground. Either from Bay Lake at the campground or in Magic Kingdom. This is now added to my bucket list next time we go in September. Thank you for the tour! If you get a chance you have to see the Grand Floridian during Christmas time. They have huge gingerbread houses and the whole lobby smells like cinnamon.
So, I am not the only one that learned of a new location to watch the fireworks. 👍🏻👍🏻

Once you get used to it, using the bus system within Fort Wilderness works great. You really don’t have to walk everywhere. There are stops at each loop. We love their transportation system. We’ve gone many times without going to the parks. Love going to Wilderness Lodge via the boat or Disney springs via the bus. One time we stayed there to take grandkids to Legoland. 😉 Haven’t done the Contemporary for fireworks. Have to check that out!
Y'all have a special way of making everything look like so much fun. That is one of the reasons I love your channel.
Great way to have a fun day and not spend a lot of money. Love just spending a day at Fort Wilderness and enjoying what it has.
We stayed at Fort Wilderness for three nights this past February and did not go into the parks but rode every monorail, boat and gondola that Disney has and walked into a ton of hotel lobbies. We had a great time and really enjoyed the campground. It was a nostalgia trip for me as I stayed there with my parents in 1979. We watched the fireworks at the Polynesian but I wish I would have thought of the Contemporary.
We did three nights on this trip as well and it was great! We didn’t get to the gondola rides but hope to check it out SOMEDAY!

Just a FYI, ebikes are no longer allowed at the Fort. The place you watched the FWs from is technically only for guests who have eaten at California Grill that day, most people don't even know that door is open, it has to be for emergency exit access.
Same as others commented. We were not told they weren’t allowed and it wasn’t on any paperwork we were given. We also rode past dozens of park workers and no one said anything to us. They waved! Not sure how they are going to ban electric bikes when many use them as normal bikes as well.
We also didn’t watch from the top level where the restaurant is as there were a ton of people up there. We are one level down and were all alone. It was great!
Your family is so blessed to be able to spend these times together. The memories will last forever.
We count those blessings every day and are so grateful for this time with each other and our girls. Life is short and we want to use every minute to its full potential!

We were recently at Fort Wilderness in Feb 2023 and did 3 of the parks. We caught the fireworks from the ferry and the beach one night. So much better than being in the park.

Operation High Perch - Hi Perch 🐟
I camped in a motorhome at Fort Wilderness the year it opened 1971. I was 10!
I can only imagine how cool this place was in the 70’s! So fun to look up the footage from that time!
That's why we were one and done with staying to watch the fireworks, basically the end of night and everyone heads back to the mono/boat all at once!
Same with us! It was a great experience but the mass exodus at the end was crazy!😳

Our daughter and family lived for about 10 years in the Orlando area. When we went to visit them, we would, sometimes, go to Magic Kingdom, Epcot center, or Animal Kingdom. A secret hack that we knew was you go to the gate, tell them we were going to the restaurant for dinner, which we always did, rode the monorail or boats, then watched the fireworks from the resort. The Polynesian was our favorite to watch the fireworks, but to visit, hands down the Floridian. We never tried to go to the Contemporary. Our granddaughter loved to go to Fort Wilderness to the campfire and see the show. The food there was our least favorite. Don’t think we could get by with it now because so much has changed. As usual, loved the videos and your family.

Want to really experience Fort Wilderness, go in December. The majority decorate their RVs and some are pretty awesome. Need to rent a golf cart and drive around. It fun and it will blow your mind seeing the decorations. More then you will see on a sticks & brick.
We have been to visit friends who were staying in the park during Christmas time and it is really cool to see the decorations!

Know eveyone's ignoring it, but technically you're not supposed to be using e-bikes under power these days at the fort, they've had some issues with them being used recklessly.10th floor balcony is the official one for fireworks, beleive you're supposed to eat or use the bar to do the Cali Grill observation deck.

The Dole Whips are from Hawaii.....always a must when visiting there. They have them at Disneyland in California. They are always a treat. They have one with the whip and pineapple juice too.
Our friends @lessjunkmorejourney toured the Dole farm in Hawaii and it looked amazing!
I stayed at FW in 1978, it was at the time the cleanest campground we ever stayed at. For further reference, You could have taken a boat directly back to the campground from the Contemporary and avoided the crowds leaving the Magic Kingdom.
I am confounded with myself that I've not yet signed up for your newsletter!!! But as Cory and Jess were talking about the marinade I realized that I've not seen any of your emails in my 'inbox'.
I need the marinade, and, hopefully information about using 'real pineapple' and length of time. I know pineapple has some dynamic enzymatic action.

The fireworks was the best part at Disney near 4th of July when I went. It was jammed pack on the ground level right next to the castle.
I can’t imagine what it is like around a holiday. The only time we have seen it at the castle, it was packed! 4th of July must have been crazy!
Wow, so neat how everything is so interconnected! .. Operation "Hi Perch" was quite a success! What a great vantage point to see the fireworks!Just may have to look into staying at Ft Wilderness in the future.. 'Tis a bit pricey, so savin those nickels and dimes..Just wish it weren't so tough getting reservation at Bruce B Downs State Park, that place is AWESOME!

It was a very successful operation and though it is expensive, we stayed for only 3 nights and we just enjoyed the park and the free things to do there so it was a fun splurge that we have waited 5 years to finally do. PS our Universal day was gifted to us by one of our FOS Crew Members who works there.

Fort Wilderness is a great camping place. If all RV parks could have that kind of space camping would always be fun. The ‘cost’ is high but cheaper than most hotels in the area. And we have all our stuff with us that is familiar.

We couldn’t believe how we just walked right onto the boat! It was great! And we were 1 level down from the top so we were the only ones on our deck! It was perfect!

2004 we rented a class A and drove from Mass to Disney. Parked the RV at the Contemporary, spent 5 nights there then 3 nights at Fort Wilderness. Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue!
You should have Ubered from the Contemporary to your RV site! Would have been at your RV in 5 minutes.
That steak looked just right, that's exactually how it should look after marinated yummy.

I stayed in Fort Wilderness as a kid in 1984 there was a beach to swim in that lake, mickey and goofy water skied in everyday.there was even a water park on that island called River Country I think.
It was really cool to look at the old footage of that area. Can’t imagine how fun it was back in the 80’s!
River Country was where they were building Reflections DVC Hotel on the shore of Bay Lake.

Magic Kingdom is a 15 mile drive from my parent's place in Four Corners. We can see/hear those fireworks over the trees every night that it's clear. I want to get on the roof one of these visits. We learned from locals many years ago the mono rail is the ONLY way to visit the parks! The time lapse of the moon was as fun to watch as the fireworks.
Does Corey have any restaurant/"professional" cooking experience or has it just been trial and error over the years? I think that s a unique way to see the fireworks without the crowds. "Operation High Perch" .... If i ever went back to Orlando that would be the only way i would do the fireworks.

I’ve got a great rub for you to try.
2 1/2 tbs salt
1 1/2 tbs pepper
2 tbs garlic powder
2 tbs onion powder
2 tbs lemon pepper
4 tbs smoked paprika
1 1/2 tsp cumin
3 tbs brown sugar
I use this rub on everything. You won’t be disappointed!

We have been a couple time to FW . The resort really comes alive during 4th of July and Christmas. .
Been to Disney twice way before Fort wilderness. In 1974 where we saw the parade and fireworks and in 1984. I have a Disney stub from '84 which cost $31.05. What did you pay? Thanks for your video!
Oh man I bet that was fun to go back then! No idea what a Disney ticket costs now . We didn’t actually go into Disney . We just used the Disney free transportation from Fort Wilderness.
Once, I was standing in the Polynesian Resort waiting for Tania to come out of the restroom, and Kevin Feige walked right in front of me. I asked him if he was Kevin Feige, to which he said yes. I shook his hand and told him I'm such a huge fan of his Marvel movies. When Tania came out of the restroom she asked, "Why are you shaking?" "Because I just met the guy who makes all the Avenger movies!"

It may be a little late to tell you but there is a boat that goes to/from the Fort in the back of the Contemporary. Also, you really need to try a Dole Whip Float. It is the same as what you had but served in a cup of Dole pineapple juice.
Camped at the Fort in February. The only boat they had from the fort was directly to magic kingdom. No other boats.
@@dawnie3029 Should be a blue flag boat that picks up and drops off on the right side of the end of the dock. The green flag boat to Magic Kingdom is on the left side.
The night we went out, there was only one boat going across and it was to Magic Kingdom.
@@SouthFloridaSound , that might have been in the past. They definitely didn’t have boats going to other resorts during my 2 week stay in February.
You can catch the boat at the contemporary and skipped the 2nd montirail ride

I'm not sure if that's still an option. Pre-Covid there were definitely boats going between the Contemporary and Fort Wilderness, but we've been there three times since Covid began, and haven't seen any boats going directly between them anymore
