    You've nailed the "style over substance" in Galar. Every city has an amazing design and a very unique identity (even Spikemuth, which is just a corridor, still has an incredible atmosphere), but zero content. Ballonlea in particular pains me: it's my favorite city ever design-wise, but the biggest disappointment ever when exploring it.

    Glad you see the vision with Hearthome. It has a sort of a celebratory feel for the culture which makes Fantina a perfect choice for the GL. The music is also super good and underrated. Probably my favorite town theme in Gen 4 besides Eterna and definitely in my top 10 overall.
    For me the big cities with the usual department store are the highlights of a run. Celadon having Eevee, Evolution Stones, TMs, the Game Corner, Erika, and the Rocket base which always feels like a great reward after getting through Rock Tunnel. I feel a similar way with Goldenrod, Mauville/Lilycove, Veilstone, Castelia (and I guess the weirdly late game department store on a random route?), Lumiose, Hau’oli/Konikoni/Malie, Motostoke/Hammerlocke, and Mezagoza(?). Makes it feel like your team is getting some training for the mid game.
    Would be cool to see your favorite landmarks in each region

  • @TheAzulmagia

    *Kanto:* Celadon City. It has Eevee, evolution stones, Game Corner prizes, etc. and opens up the shortcuts between the main Kanto cities. There's also Leftovers and Giga Drain here in Gen 2/4.
    *Johto:* Goldenrod City. Not quite as exciting as Celadon, but it still opens up a lot of features like the Magnet Train, the nearby routes for breeding and the Bug Catching Contest, the Underground for happiness, etc.
    *Hoenn:* Rustboro City. I'm not really sure what it is about this place that appeals to me. Maybe it's just the general aesthetic of the town. Devon Corp. providing you with helpful items and a fossil revive certainly helps, though.
    *Sinnoh:* Floaroma Town. Valley Windworks and the Fuego Ironworks are just really neat locations to me and I like the down to Earth vibes. Solaceon Town is a close second, though. If I had to strictly pick a city, then probably Snowpoint.
    *Unova:* Himulau City. It's just a really unique location, I think. Before my recent replay, I might've said Virbank.
    *Kalos:* Anistar City. I just like the giant sundial.
    *Alola:* Malie City. The garden is neat, I like the Johto architecture, and you meet Guzma here. Only thing that I'd change is making the Gym in Ultra Johto-themed.
    And that's the last generation I played.

      @AmazinglyAwkward Swsh is an enjoyable experience. Its a return to the original formula as a bit of a break between the innovation SM and PLA and SV bring. The gym battles are extremely hype and the story, while not great has an enjoyable climax. It also has good characters and the towns look good.

    My favorites:
    Kanto - Celadon: There's many interesting things there like the game corner, the department store, the rocket hideout and Eevee.
    Johto - Ecruteak: While Goldenrod is Celadon equivalent in this region and more interesting, I prefer Ecruteak because of the traditional japanese vibe for being bassed on Kyoto, especially in the remakes, it helps that all Johto legendaries are assosiated with this city.
    Hoenn - Mauville: I found this city very accessible for being basically in the center of the region, the remakes makes it more interesting because of it's Mall like redesign.
    Sinnoh - Veilstone: is basically the same of Celadon & Goldenrod and if it count as a city, Survival area in platinum.
    Unova - tied with Nimbasa & Driftveil: There's many good things in Nimbasa like the ferriswheel and the stadiums and Driftveil, the world tournament in BW2 and... the music
    Kalos - Laverre: I love the music & the fairy tale aesthetic
    Alola - Malie: Japanese/Johto vibes baby!
    Galar - Circhester: I like the north europe vive of this city
    Paldea: Levincia: I like the music and how vibrant the city is, it helps that is located in the east providence, my favorite providence in the game because of the music

    Hot take. Gen 8's best city is motostoke. The atmosphere, there is a fair bit of content to it through the gym, shops, etc.
    And then we get gen 9... It would have been my favourite pokemon game no contest... But then we have the depacle that is the completely lifeless region. Like it barely feels like the region is inhabited. It sucks and is easily the worst part of the game to me (yes even worse than performance issues)

    Kanto: Celadon/Cerulean
    Johto: Ecruteak City
    Hoenn: Mallville/Verdanturf town (Music is hard carry, plus small mountain town vibe)
    Orre: The Under (I will not stand Orre erasure)
    Sinnoh: Eterna/Celestic
    Unova: Village Bridge (I consider it a town, and vibes are over 9000), otherwise Driftveil
    Kalos: Coumarine/Couriway
    Alola: Malie/Seafolk village
    Galar: Motostoke
    Hisui: Jubilife

  • @juanlmejiag3022
    @juanlmejiag3022 3 месяца назад +12

    I completely understand the flak that Paldean cities get, but for God's sake I can't believe they're more disliked than Galar's cities when they at least have stuff to do in them and are at least big enough to not run across them in 5 seconds, Galar's cities only redeeming quality is that they look good but there's absolutely nothing to do in any of them and mist are so small that exploring them is impossible, I don't know maybe I just liked Scarlet and Violet too much but I genuinely think that Galar is the worst region city-wise in all the franchise and even Paldea's less-than exemplar cities are better than that.

    • @marinagaleotti
      @marinagaleotti 2 месяца назад +2

      There is nothing to do around the paldean cities. There is one trade npc or ribbon npc every 3 towns. Zapapico is known only for the charcadet armor for example. At least there are more activities to do in the galar cities.

    • @marinagaleotti
      @marinagaleotti 2 месяца назад

      I like SV, but having so intricate city designs just to go around and pick up items that you dont need or arent even interesting, isnt exactly thrilling. You cant explore the Galar cities but there is one or two reasons to come back to them. In SV you are gonna stay in Mesagoza. Maybe Ryme's city if you need to Iv Train

    • @juanlmejiag3022
      @juanlmejiag3022 2 месяца назад

      @@marinagaleotti At least as far as I can remember, the only two cities in Galar that are worth re-visiting are the Kabu (fire-leader) gym city, Raihan (dragon-leader) gym city, and the capital where the battle tower and main stadium is, other than that I don't remember any other city that has anything to make them worth coming back to after you've beaten their respective gym. I totally understand that there's not much to do in Paldea cities either, but at least the bug-gym town, the grass-type gym town and the Psychic-type gym city have some small minigames (Sunflora chasing, olive balloon game, and the stretching game with one of the school teachers at the psychic-gym city), and there's one city (can't remember the name) where there are auctions going on, and after you beat the game Atticus from Team Star sells you cool clothes that reference past games, which, at least for me, make them worth visit at least once more, while with Galar's cities I can't think of any city that made me go back to them for anything other than those 3 I mentioned. Now don't get me wrong, I totally understand the problem with Paldea as a region and its cities, and I don't think it's one of the best regions at all, it's actually one of the least good if just for how unfinished the graphics are, but I personally would still place it above Galar simply because Galar to me feels like a straight hallway with nothing to explore or do besides walk forward, which makes the region pretty boring and unappealing besides the visual aspect. I respect your opinion, and I also liked Sword and Shield in spite of its flaws, I just don't get why Paldea cities get hated (which I think is fair), while Galar cities are just overlooked when they're nothing to brag about either.

    • @marinagaleotti
      @marinagaleotti 2 месяца назад

      Basically every city has some kind of side quest to do. The grass type city has a quest to get an expert belt, the water, has a quest at the restaurant and you can visit the band of pokemon to see the credits. The dragon one has the ribbon gals, a guy that gives you a focus sash and the ghost girl quest. The fighting one has the market thet you can buy daily items from. The fairy one has a girl that gives you the eviolite after beating her and a guy that gives acrobatics after showing him a piece of clothing, the rock city has the draco meteor tutor, spikemuth has a trade and windon has tournaments and trades. Now sure, those are pretty small, but other than the boring minigames, the lottery at the port and sone spread out ribbon npcs, and a tournament there isnt anything in paldea. And unlike galar where you can at least spend the post game at the difficult battle tower, paldea doesnt even have that. Now sure galar doesnt have that much to offer after the postgame, but I still take those few quests over the postgame in SV.

    • @marinagaleotti
      @marinagaleotti 2 месяца назад

      Side note: I know most thing I mentioned can be done in the maingame too, but I doubt anyone really did those.

    fuschia city: it has a cowboy ninja vibe.
    olivine city has the lighthouse the hottest gym leader and awesome music
    does new mauville count? no? I'm using it anyway though slateport is awesome too
    i guess jubilife? or maybe resort area? where you can just chill after a long journey of battling gods and champions
    village bridge. not so much a city but just a cool hangout spot. also the music is an interesting detail
    laverre city smokin hot gym leader, pokeball factory awesome architecture
    konikoni city. this slice of kanto is whimsical without feeling pandering
    stow on side. so many of galar's cities were sooooooooo underdeveloped they just don't stick in my mind even if the designs were cool. stow on side at least had a little fleshing out.
    artazon. gotta love a city that embraces art. i would have said alfornada but it had this culty feel to it

    All things considered, in my opinion, the best city in Kanto is either Celadon City or Saffron City. In both of them, besides the gym themselves, you have to go through an entire huge facility full of Team Rocket grunts and fight Giovanni at the end. Sure, Fuchsia City has the Safari Zone, but kicking the whole Team Rocket's ass is much better.

    My favourite city their list : (Over the content I love them aesthetically and maybe some real world reference or lore)
    Kanto : Vermillion city due to SS Anne and being a town of exquisite sunset.
    Jhoto : Ecruteak city due to LORE !!!
    Hoenn : Verdanturf town as it's so calming and peaceful and air is sweet.
    Sinnoh : Floaroma Town because I love peace.
    Unova : Castelia city. It's literal New York. And it's the business centre of the region.
    Kalos : Lumiose City. It's beautiful. It's Paris. No objections.
    Alola : Hau'oli city. Good beach. Good city. A lot to do.
    Galar : I love all the places here no matter what others think because it's my first region and Pokemon game I played.
    But Ballonlea is the best. A fairy town ? Deep into a mysterious grove ? I am moving there.
    Paldea : Mesagoza. It's big. It's Barcelona. I have to yet explore it's every nook and corner.
