This video reminds me of the original trailer for the PS2 version of the game. Showing just enough to wet the appetite of any gamer that likes open world exploration in a mysterious land. "Shadow Of The Colossus" was never intended to be what it's become. The original developers were simply trying to make a good game. Little did they know that almost 17 years later, the game would still be played, discussed, analyzed, scrutinized, studied. It's nothing short of amazing. :)
This remake is everything fans want in a remake. The art direction is kept perfectly in tact while visually being not only obviously an improvement but one of the best looking ps4 games.
IF it ever ends up on pc like other playstation titles I might, but console restrictions don't allow me to make one. This video was already a pain to make with the restrictions I had

As much as the Ps4 is considerable "graphically" beautyfull, the original Ps2 game has a much more refined and clear identity. The remake changed so many desing and aspects of the visuals that it just has become something different. The original game was quite "ralistic" for it's time, but it used the ps2 limitation as it's advantage, limiting the field of view, adding fog, low resoltion textures and terrain whit low detail. All of theese elements compone the beautyfull but barren landscape of the forbidden land, functioning clearly as a perfect rappresentation of a place where no one should stand, reinforcing the story and themes. The ramake made the world more detailed and filled whit vegetations, but this comes at the cost of losing the original intent of the game art style, unremarking the real value of the game by choosing to show a more "realistic" and generic enviroment, completely loosing what made Shadow of the colossus world so special. This is the result of the tragic misunderstanding of art direction by Bluepoint, whom also made Demon Souls remake, another stungg graphical achivement, that completely gutters the original art desing intent, transforming elements of the game, Such as the soul effects and water (crucial part of the sybolism of the series) into Generic magic effects, killing what the orignal game intended to depict.
I completely agree even when I haven't played the PS4 version, which looks great by the way. I feel that the PS2 light effects in particular can't be replicated in the PS4 version no matter how powerful the new hardware is. I wonder what would be the result if Fumito Ueda (the original art creator) was deeply involved in the PS4 version of the game.
@@panchosoft_ The game sometimes looks like a default scene in ue4, since the light palette and color is so generic for the sake of "realism" There are also the terrible colossus re-design. For example, the energy bracelets (that purposely look like magic seals) in the remake have been transformed in random flame/energy stuff that are around the arms. The problems whit the remakes of such directed games such as Demon souls and Sotc is that even the visals and the smallest detail are crucial to the work of the director and team, but blueprint treated the visuals as something needed to be changed whitout consideration. Demon souls remake is the worst offender, expecially in the color grading department. In the nexsus, the remake complelty fucked up the colors and design of the original, slapping in some genetic Ue4 palette to make everything pretty.
I never understood why no one should go there. It honestly looks like a peaceful place to live your whole life in...minus the giant monsters, but they're limited to their fighting arenas anyways.
Based on my interpretation that's the point. Is suposed to be an alegory to the Gardens of Eden. A sacred place that must be preserved outside human corruption. Wander, the protagonist, go to this land with a egotiscal and inconsequent purpose, and starts slaying pure creatures in order to fulfill his desire to transcend death. A journey that ended up consuming his own humanity.
This game shaped my entire understanding of how storytelling could be told without pages and pages of script.
That is so true. In one hand you had minimal and ascetic story, but in other hand somehow you had story full of depth
