Thank you for reacting to our John, the GOAT. This is an absolutely phenomenal vocal performance by John. His passion and emotion is wonderful. Brett Garsed is the guitar player and he has been with John for over 40 years. He did work in America on and off throughout the years too. Check out a sound check audio only of John and the band doing Led Zeppelin's Black Dog. The sound engineer hit the record button and thank goodness he did. This mans talent is unsurpassed IMHO and his band are the best. Enjoy the Farnsey journey. Oh and another one he sang right up to when he was 70 years old is Its a Ling Way to the Top - ACDC (another Aussie legendary rock band) cover. Watch the one with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 1989. You'll see Brett Garsed in full swing again with his guitar - fantastic❤😂🎉
John Farnham’s cover of AC/DC’s ‘Long way to the top’ with the MSO (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) or his cover of ‘Black Dog’ are definitely worth checking out. The latter is audio only because it was a sound check that fortunately somebody recorded.
Brett Garsed on guitar. John Farnham Band stalwart but recorded with with Planet X and TJ Helmerich during a stint in the US and non- Australian guitarists seem to know him best for that. Still releasing new work. Known for his legato and hybrid picking technique, and slide. I love his playing.
John was 54 yrs old at this concert. He was still singing at 71 until he had cancer of the mouth. John does rock - "Black Dog" and "It's a Long Way To The Top"
Thanks heaps for the great reaction. John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes are my favourite male artists. This song and performance is incredible. Not bad for a dude who at this concert was in his 50s. Can you please check out John Farnham “burn for you” live acoustic. The concert with John in the black shirt
The Angels. Rose Tattoo. Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs . You can't go wrong with The Angels . Tats are hard rockers, Thorpie could sing and play guitar ( Be Bop a Lula is an awesome cover). Screaming Jets. Heaps of rockers from our past.
AC/DC are from Australia. You should check out another rock group from Australia Midnight Oil “beds are burning” such a great song, check out the offical video
Firstly John is amazing always. I am so thankful I have been able to witness how great a singer he is. I am a Chisel fan through and through though so, I get a kick out of it when the originals sing it, or even the versions on Jimmy Barnes Facebook page during Covid in his daily sessions at home. For more info about the Chisel band, I would recommend Jimmy's autobiographies, Working Class Boy, Working Class Man and Killing time.....He has a new book out called Highways and Byways.... In an earlier video you mentioned that you liked the band Eagles..... me too. And now you have asked for suggestions. This band suggestions is for an Aussie country rock group called the Stars that hails from Adelaide where Chisel formed. Their lead singer is Mick Pearling. Whilst not exactly like the Eagles, there is just something that I can't quite put my finger on, that gives me that vibe. Maybe you'll know. This is the Stars singing Look after yourself ruclips.net/video/ghQtprdc6eM/видео.htmlsi=Bea95At1Me7Bv83a West is the Way with Andy singing ruclips.net/video/JHr2UKhO_Rc/видео.htmlsi=t7wiod9pixJWoll2 Rocky Mountain Way.... Andy wrote a lot of songs for this band and there was a memorial concert in his honour in 1980 after he passed of Melanoma at 24 or 25 years of age. He also played guitar and harmonica. The lead guitarist is Mal Eastick whom you've seen with Jimmy when he started out in his solo career. They had a song called Wasted Words, and your favourite Eagles song is Wasting Time..... At the memorial Jimmy is part of the guests who sing that ruclips.net/video/u2MSWppDcWI/видео.htmlsi=Of-YUoaD4WY235-o In fact, the whole memorial concert is brilliant, and showcases the songs Andy wrote. I would say some of the earliest of influences would need to include The Easybeats, Axiom, ACDC, Angels, Midnight Oil, Dragon (NZ band), Little River Band with the best periods where when the originals where there or when John was lead, Master Apprentices, Zoot, INXS, Jeff St John with Teach me how to fly, Vale Doug Parkinson with his cover of Dear Prudence, Renee Geyer RIP, Air Supply, Australian Crawl, Baby Animals, Divinyls, Daddy Cool, Grinspoon, Spiderbait (Black Betty cover is fantastic), Sherbert, Skyhooks, Party Boys, The Screaming Jets, and separately Jet, The Veronicas, Weddings Parties Anything, Mental as Anything, Models, Crowded House, Icehouse, Hunters and Collectors, Hoodoo Gurus, Thirsty Merc, Eskimo Joe, Silverchair, Johnny Diesel and the Injectors, Guy Sebastian, Matt Corby, Tina Arena, Marcia Hines, Irwin Thomas aka Jack Jones who was lead singer of Southern Sons, Dami Im, Delta Goodram, Jessica Mauboy, Samantha Jade, Vanessa Amorosi. I really could go on, but I will leave it at that for now. Music soothes the soul. Enjoy.
Agree someone said it was also about a 'Dear John' letter sent to a soldier at the front. Which makes sense of the lyrics when talking about the chaos and sadness etc... This is the meaning I feel is closer to the lyrics meaning.
Steve Prstwitch wrote this just before Cold Chisel Broke up the 1st time. The guys in the band were all best mates, yet also had very volatile relationships. I personally think it's about the bands break up. They loved each other, would always be true to each other but at the time they couldn't be together. Fortunately they did get back together many years later. It was after the break up that Steve joined the Little River Band around the same time as John Farnham did. LRB also recorded and performed a version of this song. Steve also left LRB around the same time as Farnham and became the original drummer in John's new touring band, which is also the reason why John added it to his set list after he went solo again in 1987. Ian Moss also performs it solo at his concerts. Sadly Steve passed away 2011 not long after the band had reformed.

It is funny you mentioned that song. It is the only one I know by them. I think it came out in '86 or'87. His voice is cool.
Good reaction and John does most types of music even rock mate.

I believe the meaning of the song can apply to several different situations. Thankyou for your reaction 😊
Thank you too!

Always do live performances of Aussie singers if you can, they are better than studio versions.
