Like I've watched their plugged in loads already and seen a few different reactions and I didn't catch that and neither has anyone else.
The Irish reference was to the Irish Revolution. "Our Day Will Come". Class reference.👌👌
To expand on that, Tiocfaidh Ar La is the war cry of the IRA who during the Troubles carried out a 30 year campaign of bombings, shootings and kidnappings in Ireland and Britain killing thousands including civilians, soldiers, loyalist paramilitaries (UDA/UVF), politicians and the queen's cousin (on the same day as 18 Brits were blown were blown to bits) . So he's implying that if someone takes the mick (takes the piss) he'll either use IRA like tactics against them or people from "one side of the family" are in the IRA and he'll get them involved.
Mick is also a semi-derogatory term used by English/American people for Irish people.

What's interesting about Bas--I read he was a piano teacher. So he knows piano well, and I suspect that's why he's so smooth on the beat--and why he's the one who typically switches things up. He's got a creative mind. He knows exactly what he's doing with his melody. It's like he's playing the keys with his voice.

I lowkey love how some of the time in this video you can see Bas' fingers moving real quick along the side of the beer can, as if he's tapping the quick beat on keys, which you often see pianists, violinists, etc, do when they get really into a bit of music lol

I don't know a ton about newer rap (grew up in 80s-90s Beasties, ATCQ, etc)- but I sang jazz and hung w those musicians - ANYONE who denies the connection between this and jazz is high or a liar. It's another form of scatting, you know, that thing Ella Fitzgerald does - that's jazz. Makes sense that 1) Baz piano background drives some of those changes and 2) the life long use of cockney rhyming slang can be a natural progression to rap. You still have to have talent, which they DO. They just blow my mind, everything is SO intricate. My pianist (who is now the leader of THE Duke Ellington Orchestra once said "don't you sometimes make up tunes in your head? No. I wish that was my gift - that's why I'm so in awe of this. I'm tired of hearing old people getting dumped on - god willing we'll ALL be old someday and to spend your older years thinking all you have is waiting to die is a waste of the time you're given. Pete and Bas are astonishing.
