I totally agree with you I got a Yamaha r3 as a beginner bike but had rode 3-4 wheelers as a little kid so I grew bored of it in 3 months and sold it then it took me almost 2 years to buy my second bike a Fz6r

I recommend that ALL riders steer clear of crotch rockets. They are certainly no good for beginners, and they are no good for experienced riders either ON THE STREET. They are designed for the track, their riding position makes them downright dangerous in stop and go traffic with intersections. Most people that buy them do so because they are fast. Then they try to use public streets as a race track. 9 out of 10 motorcycle accidents involve some kind of crotch rocket. I have owned more than 50 bikes in my life, and not a single one of them has been a crotch rocket, or any kind of "performance" bike. My opinion of the perfect beginner bike is not a street bike at all. In todays world I don't think anybody should start out trying to learn how to ride on the street. It's practically suicide. My first bike, at age 8, in 1968, was a Bultaco Lobito 100. By the time I was 16, I had 8 years of riding experience. Not long before I was 16, I bought a 1972 Suzuki GT380 2 stroke triple. I got both my drivers license and motorcycle license on my 16th birthday. Back then we didn't have the crazy cell phone addled drivers and NASCAR wannabes we have on the roads today. That didn't happen overnight. It got worse and worse over several decades, and I learned to deal with it as it happened. I am now 64, and have ridden over a million miles since age 16. And not a single accident on the street. In fact I have never dropped anything but dirt bikes. I think the Rebel 250, or V-Star 250, or the Suzuki Savage 650/S40 would all make great beginner street bikes, AFTER you've had a few years off road riding experience. Don't even look at a crotch rocket, even a 250.

I am of the opinion, for a bike to be a good beginner bike for you, you need to be willing to walk up to it an kick it over off its kickstand. If you are not willing to do that because its easily damaged or to expensive for you to fix or you just cant pick it back up, it is a bad first bike for you. Fear of dropping the bike causes bad riding habits an keeps people from learning good habits. You will only learn the skills that you will likely drop the bike a few times learning, if you start on a bike you dont mind dropping.

I’ve had several bikes over the years and tried just about every style and funny enough I’m headed a couple hours west Saturday to Florence Alabama to pick up a rebel 250 at a dealership I’ve never dealt with so could be interesting… I guess what I’m saying is experience or not the right size bike does wonders I have years of experience but I am 5feet 3 inches tall and the small cruiser fits me very well and I enjoy them the most
