Strap Outlaw Unboxing and Giveaway!!!
I’ve had 5 XTs Two 225s Two 250s And a 350 I love the 225, I have a 06 and it so much fun to ride.
Got one of these as a first bike to learn on. Got my license, had fun on it, rode it about 2500 miles, then sold it thinking I need something with more power, faster, etc. Now I regret doing that. It's a fun bike and that's what this is all about. I miss the thing and wish I had just kept it, it's really all most people need. I may even break down and get another one, who knows. Air cooled, carbureted, rear drum brake, analog speedo, no gas gauge - love all that because of it's simplicity.
What did you get after selling it just out of curiosity?
@@DirtRider22a I sold it then got a klx230. Came down to that or the xt250 because I wanted to stick with a simple bike, just a tad more power. Went with the klx because of the seat height. I got the standard size, not the lowered S version, and also the 6th gear it has. I wanted a bike that would hold a higher speed on the highway than the xr would. But now that I know more about what I like and have seen so many xr's modified in cool ways, just keeping that would have actually been fine and would have saved me some money and hassle. I do like the klx and accomplished what I wanted, but that xr had such a comfortable feel that's hard to match.
@1122redbird I’m an xt fan, I have a 225 though. I hear good things about the 230
@@DirtRider22a Xt is solid, I'm a fan too and like the 225 a lot myself. I was talking to a guy who just rode his from San Diego to Phoenix and the guy with him was on a dr200. I really like all these sub 300cc dual sports, don't need or want a "big bike".
@1122redbird yeah, I have a tenere 700 and it’s great for covering a lot of road miles but once I get off-road I much prefer a smaller cc dualsport for sure
Had a ‘74 back in the nineties, and I had trouble with it in cold weather. It had a new carburetor and choke on it. In cold weather, the idle would be normal once i started the engine, but the idle would begin to get lower and lower after idling for a few minutes. After accelerating the engine would sometimes stop running once I took my foot off the gas to hit the brakes. My mechanic, who worked on air-cooled VWs, could never figure out the cause of the problem, so I wrote ‘Hot VW Magazine’ because they had a Q & A section for troubleshooting issues. They told me if the car had a header style exhaust system, which it had, the heat risers might be clogged, which is preventing warm air from reaching the base of the carburetor. I told my mechanic about it. He checked it out, and said they were clogged a little and cleared them. Seemed to solve the problem temporarily until I began to experience the same problems a few weeks later. Eventually I sold the car. Recently I purchased a ‘76 Beetle that’s fuel infected, and I’ve had no problems whatsoever.
Idk my xt isn't that snappy mine is more boggy. Maybe i need to clean up the carb and replace the boot. It looks like you could power slide for days but mine bogs and gains speed and power slow
Mine does have the exhaust opened up from previous owner, and I have it jetted perfect I feel like
Those footpegs are excellent. Only "expensive" footpegs I've ever bought. (Not a terrible idea to take a file to one of them to allow it to fold up a little more.)
I've owned two xt225 in the past my 1st was a 1994 and my 2nd. XT 225 was a 2005 and I had a lot of good Times Riding both of those bikes. Last year I bought the New 2023 Honda xr150 Dual Sport but was sadly disappointed in the quality of the bike and traded it in after Riding it 5 months for a 2024 Honda Monkey 125 mini moto. I've had the monkey now for about 8 months and put 6,700 miles on it so far it's a really fun little bike to Ride and it's great getting 140 M.P.G. plus the Honda Monkey is fuel injected.
good video!!!
Are xt225 available in brand new condition In your country ? Watching and enjoying your videos
@@xiakhan9498 sadly not, 2007 was the last year for it in North America

Would have liked to have seen the dismount and mount of the tire
Sorry, I was trying to keep the video from being too long. No different than spooning tires on any other bike with tubeless wheels, plenty of videos showing how to do that. I just use 3 spoons, no at home tire machine or anything like that
Thanks heaps
So if it doesn't qualify as a motor driven cycle you have to get it plated in a state that allows it first? My certificate of origin doesn't say it's off-road use. I would install the accessories I need to make it legal during the day and night.
Alabama won’t issue a tag on a certificate of origin is the issue, so it doesn’t matter that it doesn’t say for off road only, because it isn’t a “certification of title” its a certification of origin and Alabama won’t issue you a tag with that or a Alabama title with that. So if it can’t be tagged as a motor driven cycle you will need a title. Atleast this has always been my experience unless something has changed recently.
@@DirtRider22a thanks for clarifying that for me
I appreciate the time you took to make this video. It really helps people out. Thanks man.
Glad you found it helpful 👍
I am 5ft-7in and I never sat on at T7. Will I be on my toes?
Yes, I have a 32” inseam and 5’7” and if I plan to put both feet down, it’s tip toes on each side
Yo dirt I saw u like my comment just wanna ask I’m 14 and I’m getting my first bike it’s gonna be a Klx 140L or g but did the bikes change through out the years or would it be the same if I saved money and got a like 2020 2019 instead of a 2023 through 2025. Also can I like put a big bore on it 170cc once I get use to riding cause I know how to ride but never with clutch and never own a bike my self but back to the thing once I get the hang of if I want more power instead of a new big bike can’t I just add a bore
There are big bore kits for them, they changed the name at some point from 140L and G to R and RL, RG I think but only other thing that changed was color of plastics to my knowledge. Could definitely save a buck buying used. If you look at my page and go back far enough you can find klx140 videos on my channel. I think I have a playlist with all them in it
@ ok thanks
@ basically nothing major change and I can always buy different plastics thanks again
Thanks I’m def gonna get a Klx 140
Only 125f I would consider would be the older carbureted version but the klx140 would still be better
the japanese options are very limited with scooters. i want one that i can ride on the interstate because, as you say, it's mostly open road style interstate. there's still a lot of traffic, but it's almost always thin enough that people will be cruising ten over the limit of 65. so with that in mind, do you think a yamaha xmax 300 would be enough oomph to feel confident at 75 mph? the only other option i know of being the burgman 400, but that's a whole other class. i don't know if i want a midsize, and the xmax is still under 400lbs.
@@thinkdunson Yamaha xmax should be plenty fast enough
How long did the race last?
@@karsonleblanc548 5 laps, I have the full video on my channel, it’s from 2 years ago I think so have to scroll back a ways
@ alr thxs
Been nice if I could’ve seen the bike from a side view. Seeing half of the front fender didn’t really show much.
I have tons of xt225 content on my channel, this was just me goofing off in the few free min I had between getting the kids in to warm up and getting myself in to warm up after a morning full of playing in the snow with them lol
Thanks, very enjoyable. The xt225 part was a bonus.:-) I run a Trackmaster 2 on the rear only on my xt225, so far it's been fantastic on the street and untested in dirt. The 100 width seems just about perfect. Extremely light tire, and perhaps very soft. Easy to mount, probably not easy to ride on after getting a flat. On the street, don't even notice that it's a knobby tire.
For real have been trying to figure out how to keep one of these from tipping, was trying to use ratchet straps wasn't working very well thank you very much 👌
I don't know how much creedence I would give his opinion on his suspension upgrades. He hasn't even done them yet and is already critical of them. If I were that doubtful about the upgrade, I would do something else.
I ended up doing the bbr suspension for the front, was worth it. It doesn’t take much to know it’s soft for riding at a faster pace. If you’re bottoming it out regularly it’s soft for your weight/speed.
I don't understand, can you put it on auto mode and not worry about it or you have to shift?
I was told I should have been tapping the auto button to put it in auto mode, not holding it down like I was. When I did this video there was very few videos out explaining all the controls in English so I was pretty much having to try and figure it out on the fly as I went.
Did you do any lowering? Or low seat ? Thanks
@@moulin680 no, stock height and stock seat
what brand mitts on the bars?
Tusk from rockymountainatvmc.com To get them to fit well I did have to put a hole where the mirrors are and then re-install the mirrors. Just heat up a punch or some other large pointed metal rods and push it through the material where the mirrors thread in. I’ve used these on other bikes for years now and have no complaints with them
Bro!! Got my burgmann 200 for mileage use, I totally live it, I love in Flagstaff Arizona and I travel to Las Vegas, 2x 3x every 2 months! I carry a backup 2.5 gallon of gas just in case....but overall. I love it!
I test drove one of these and a triumph tiger… found a triumph tiger for 4000 grand out the door at a Harley dealership that got it on a trade from an older gentleman. I love the tiger but this bike made me really reconsider… I’ll probably buy one in my future. We will see! Great review!
Would have been great if you'd thrown in a few photos of all the bits you're talking about!? Don't disagree with any of it!
Thanks for the feedback, I’m slowly starting to get a little better at adding other camera angles and extra photos.
The area you live in is beautiful.
@@Dave_A41 sweet home Alabama!!! I do enjoy the views out in northeast Alabama as well, maybe more since it’s a little more mountain terrain
Please notify me on the next video of your 2003 883 custom, i have the exact same bike and thank you, i have never seen a video with a 2003 883 custom...Willis...⚡⚡⚡🔥🔥🔥🏁🏁🏁
Sorry, I have sold that bike a while back.
Do you think a ttr230 would be a big difference for easy to moderate trails at off-road parks vs an xt250?
Probably not a very big difference other than no lights or blinkers to break if you drop it. A klx140 with the full size wheels would be 60-70 pounds lighter so that’s the biggest difference I can think of while still being full size bike.
Thanks!
not being lazy, you knew it was going to be fun pulling carb.
Bro I've been using this kind of generic pelican cases forever. They will survive anything, and your stuff will arrive dry no matter what. I love it
cool video man!, I ride a scooter lol and this up coming summer i wanna go on a camping ride from PA down to WV and this gave me some good ideas cos rn i have a milk crate zip tied to my rack haha.
Nah, you gotta spend like $1200.00 on mosko moto, lol. For real, though, this is right up my alley. It's either this or an old milk crate, but this looks more better.
Still got it?
Nah, sold it a few months later. Just bought it to flip for profit. 50cc would be plenty fun if I lived in a more urban area
I have one and I feel like it’s too weak I don’t think I can dos over 60
Same here, but it's nice offroad.
Thanks for the video. I have a couple of questions. What center stand did you use for your bike? Can you send the link? Is it a universal bike stand? What were you looking at to see the oil level? When wiping any excess oil do you just use a rang or do you also use some kind of chemical? I started riding this year and I'm completely new to doing my own bike maintenance. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
My bike stand is one from harbor freight, I always wipe oil off with a rag and then may wash with soap and water once the job is completely finished
@@DirtRider22a thanks for the info and quick response.
@ as long as when the bike is standing vertically straight you can see oil in the window you are good. Ideally right in the center, over filling can be as damaging as not having enough
Super informative thank you....
You posted this at the perfect time for me,,, I'm planning on getting either a Rebel 250 or a V Star 250 soon and i want to mount one of these boxes onto it,,, maybe big enough to carry two pizzas 😂
I’ve got some older Rebel videos that show the saddle bags I installed, looked and functioned good. Had to relocate the rear blinkers, not quite big enough for a pizza though 😂
" professional driver- closed course"
Of course lol
Filmed in Mexico 😂
Nice i have a honda crf but its only a 150f
Great video
I like it!!
Ngl I feel like electric would be nice leaving ur house without waking everyone up
That’s something I hadn’t thought of, specially since I commute to work at 5am lol
Strange that a bunch of reviews have Yamaha against Royal Enfield, CFMoto!! Folks those bikes can't be used in SW United States or Mexico.. average freeway speed is 80 mph .in Texas, California and Arizona often speeds are 85+ mph . don't think that a motorcycle that doesn't produce 40 horsepower is going to be safe..in US majority of riders are 180+ pounds, plus small amount of gear for camping, commute or light touring, having a bike that can't comfortably go 70-75 is dangerous..stop pretending!! Tenere 700 is the only bike of the 3 with any road manners
ive got that same four wheeler. is it hard to pop it up or does it just go straight up for you?
Pretty easy for me, 2wd model so a little lighter on the front
@@DirtRider22a ok cool. thanks!
How much oil?
Just under 1.5 liters of my memory is correct
looks awesome. i like that you addressed passenger comfort by running straps under the seat. the metal in the tail bag is a great idea!
@@wvadv I still need to find a solution for passenger seat, wife says it’s only good for about 30min lol
