I use karmar spray sealer first (3 coats) let dry between each coat. Then VHT same amount of coats. Bake at 250 for 20 - 30 minutes my tiles did not yellow at that temperature.
I’ve had good success with the Dupli Color one you tried. I sprayed 3-4 coats with 30 minutes in between then set the tile out in 85-90 degree sun to cure for 4 hours. Next morning I did the hot coffee test with no sticking! It was a darker tile so I saw no “yellowing,” there were some white parts on my design that do not appear yellow.
That's great! I hope to have a new video filmed soon for testing some resins on coasters, Subscribe and get notifications for new videos to see when it comes out!
@@abstractanneliese6950Did you test these again as you said you were going to do? I don’t see another video. I have been painting tiles with alcohol inks and I planned on using them as trivets, but I’ve been searching everywhere and cannot find any sealant that is heat proof up to about 400 degrees. I’m going to give resin a try, some are heat-resistant. Any suggestions?
Thank you so much for testing all these sprays! If you were to compare the Dupli-Color Acrylic Enamel that you used in the last tile test to the Dupli-Color Engine Enamel, which do you think was better? Did you retry the Dupli-Color Acrylic Enamel to test if the bubbles that were visible in the last video disappeared when sprayed at the recommended temperature? Have you also had a chance to retry the Dupli-Color Engine Enamel without curing to see if it caused the yellowing? I've never sprayed coasters before and was wondering if you sprayed the sides of the tile as well? Do you have any tips on spraying the tiles?
how do you heat treat the coasters after you use VHT enamel engine spray? do you have to use a oven? or can you just spray them? ur use something else?
Does Polyacrylic aerosol not yellow??? Making sure...i use a clear coat as a middle coat, & binder for flakes before brushing expensive sealer/resin on.
@@abstractanneliese6950 never mind, polyacrylic is too thin & now i use a resin to put the flake on & can re-coat in resin a hour later. Krylon triple thick glaze also puts polyacrylic to shame in coverage & gloss.

I tested the diamond sealer. I sprayed my tile with 5 coats, every half an hour inside so the temperature was about 70 degrees with little humidity. I let it cure for 3 days. I tested with a 12 oz mug of water heated to 180 degrees. Let the mug sit on the tile for 10 minutes. It stuck and left a ring. Not sure what I did wrong. Would you please give me some advise? Thank you.
Sorry for the delay.. not sure what happened, Gerry! I did not test the temperatures of my mugs in the video, may have to do that to get good consistency for testing. I will be testing Resin next, hope it helps you find what works for you!
I have not. I liked the diamond finish so much that I have been using that. I am also playing around and testing a bunch of resin finishes and should have a video for that out soon too with comparisons when they are ready
I still like the diamond but it is quite expensive, I am trying out some resins and will hope to have a new video showing them filmed soon! Subscribe and get notified for new videos so you can see when it is out! Thanks for watching!
When doing these tests you can not compare varnishes if you don’t follow the directions on the label. The ones you heat treated that did not call for heat treatment probably broke down. Depending on the chemicals used in the product, it could have been dangerous for you as well! You should redo this “experiment” following the directions of the product to the letter.
I wish I could find a video of sealers that aren't sprays. I can't use a spray because of the sides of my projects.

What’s the point of a cup sticking to the coaster?
Just wondering was the “follow up” for this video ever done???
Wondering, are they waterproof, ie sweating beverage glass.

So after you spray and after they dry are you saying bake in the oven at 200 for 20 minutes?
No, used a heat gun, and monitored temperature. Would not want to put these in the oven in my home where I cook food, or risk vapors inside
@@abstractanneliese6950 I thought so. Using a heat fine great idea. How long??
Thanks
Hi! Have you tried Brite Tone by Crystalac? I'm thinking of using that one...
I have not see or heard of that one , paste a link and I will check it out
Hi how long let them dry before us spray? I used aft 2 days Spraymax2K and got circle print on coasters, no matter what type of mugs /glasses I used.
You mentioned seeing brush strokes on VHT. Do you spray then use a brush to spread it around?
No only spray. But if I run my fingernail over it, it scratches the surface
@@abstractanneliese6950 thanks for answering. I have used the Diamond finish too but I get bubbles on it.
I’ve noticed the bubbles more if the coasters are colder than room temperature and if I try to rush and spray on too thick
@@abstractanneliese6950 yea I’m thinking I need to wait till it gets warmer outside before sealing my coasters.
Thank you for these tests. Where did you get the tiles? Which brand are they?
Just a generic from Home Depot
Where did you do a heat treatment? You say outside??
Garage
@@abstractanneliese6950 You have an oven in your garage?
Kim T lol, no, I do have a heat gun and a laser thermometer! 😉
Do you apply top coat sealant first before you apply the heat resistant clear spray?
No, the clear spray acts as sealant.! Thanks for watching!

heat gun and thermometer to measure the surface temperature

What happened to the diamond finish spray? I was thinking of going with that one.
It’s held up fairly well, I also ended up using it on a few canvases as well!
and we are here waiting. for the results thaaaaa???
