    Lived through Helene. Leicester NC. Ten miles west of Asheville. I worked in Swannanoa. First day of the pre-Helene deluge on Thurs.....the rain was so heavy it was coming over the gutters. Freshly cleaned, no blockages! Six fellows from the Leicester Vol Fire Department rescued my mother about 09:00. Little 100lb lady. They wrapped her in a tarp and carried her down to the ambulance....and she was soaked when they got there. We all had a good laugh. Great guys and I will thank them til I die! Incidentally, Mission Hospital (top 3% in the US) lost power that day....their main emergency genny died a couple of hours later from flooding. The backup genny powered the lobbies but not the rooms. No food nor water. They were eating humanitarian daily rations....NOT MRE's! MRE's are edible....HDR's are not! Power went out here at 13:22 on Thursday. The hurricane came through that night. Power was out sixteen days. An oak that was two and a half feet thick came out of the soaked ground and landed maybe sixty feet from my front porch....another that was a foot thick took out all the wiring here and blocked the road. LOTS of trees falling! We have all electric and my what do you call it, the internet thingy? I'm tired. Can't think right. I want to type this before I forget. My internet is ATT air something. 5g uses the phone systwm. No power, no router. No cell service anyway. Took a good long shower on Thirsday, shaved, and clipped my hair to a quarter inch. Stuffed a bunch of water bottles into the freezer. Frozen water bottles make ice that keeps the freezer cold. Boiled a bunch of parboiled rice. My largest Pyrex bowl full. The yellow one....my banana pudding bowl. It was cold in the fridge when the power went out. Filled two seven gal drinking water jugs (Sportsmans Guide years ago) and left them sitting in both bathtubs. On Friday, day the hurricane came through, I made coffee in a Stanley cook set pot on a Coughlans solid fuel stove on my coffee table. My largest cutting board, inch thick wood, and an upturned cast iron frying pan under it. Two tabs...worked perfectly! One scoop of Folgers grounds equals two 8oz cups and one bottle of water. Boil til the grounds sink or the tabs die. Great coffee!!! Brekky was two sausages (like brats but breakfast sausages) and scrambled eggs. Ate all the eggs I could but still threw out six dozen that I couldn't swear to. I had power for the fridge and freezer but it was taking more gas than I hoped. Was a tactical decision to empty the fridge. Was taking baths on the front deck. Wash up with disposable soaped and damp washcloths....re-wet them if you don't get done fast enough. Rinse with a few cups of jug water. Wipe face down with alcohol hand sanitizer and a clean rag. Used a lot of paper cups and paper plates on top of real plates. Saves washing! Fiberglass chopsticks are a wonder! A genny drinks gas! A 400 watt inverter ($40 at Lowes) can charge everything electrical that you have and doesn't waste fuel! You can "bathe" with a cup in the bathtub by dipping toilet tank water over your head. It's pure water. You can drink and bathe from hot water tank water in the basement by the faucet on the tank bottom. If you're all electric and on a well, the tank will be filling when the power comes back on and it re-heats. If you're on city water and the power comes on first, the tank can burn out. Turn off the breaker to the tank til it fills! Rain barrels are a lifesaver! Two on the ground and one raised on a platform can give you a functioning water system in emergencies! A Berkey type of filter can be made from two food grade buckets and four Brita type pitcher filters. ONE would work for a single person but the lifespan of the filter gets to be questionable. Hole saw set and little tap from Lowes. I have a half dozen Sawyers and Lifestraws but never had to use any. I got by perfectly fine with two Stanley cookset pots, two Walmart steel cups (identical to the GSI but 1/3 the cost), the Coughlans folding solid fuel stove, a Redcamp alcohol burner stove...Trangia clone....and a stainless mess kit cook set. Burned a box and a half of fuel tabs....thirty total....a half quart of 80% ethyl hand sanitizer from Lowes. My Stanley pots were too small for the spirit burner pot stand so I used my little round grill from my Tomshoo rocket twig burner on top. Worked perfectly! I got scratched up pretty badly on both legs clearing brush and limbs in Carhartt shorts...my brother in law and sis made sure I was ok on food and water (told them I was ok on both but they piled it on anyway lol!). Bro in law, me, cousins and neighbors cleared a LOT of wood! Massive amount of firewood this year! My old employer is no longer there. A friend, great lady, lost her house and her mom's house flooded six feet on the first floor. I live on a hill so no flooding and old growth forest all around so no slides. We lost three pieces of siding and my back deck is now wobbly unsafe due to a limb. We were going to replace it with a larger deck anyway. Bottom line....the Stanley cookset with matching steel cup is the minimum I will ever suggest now. A second steel cup is worth it as well! The Coghlans solid fuel stove is great for coffee and canned foods but NOT for real meals! The Trangia or any of the clones is the best for a single person. Hand sanitizer is cheap and plentiful! At least one full 24 flat of cans per person is the minimum! Chef Boyardee assorted, chilli, stews, etc. Canned meats....canned chicken breast tends.to be canned water....Spam is second to Bristol and Hereford, Bristol canned ham is good!, I have a LOT of coffee so np there. Tuna gets a bit old after the twentieth can but tuna.and rice is great as is tuna and mac! A 400 watt inverter and two power strips plus a cord to reach your fridge. If your fridge is more than 400 watts, get a larger inverter. Filled water containers BEFORE the troubles, not lamented after! At least $300 in small bills in a waterproof can or jar! Make sure all of your insurance policies, medical records, deeds etc are sealed in a can or jar! Make sure you ahve duplicate drivers licenses, id's, dogtags etc. 40 year prepper here so to be honest, this storm was nothing material-wise. I honestly have already forgotten it for the most part. What I can't forget is seeing how so many of us here are living like third world refugees still. We had our first laying snow last night. Not tonight, last night. And the news, WLOS, shows folks living in tents and broken down travel trailers. My youngest sis got her water reztored the day before yesterday. Still too muddy to wash with but supposedly safe to drink without boiling. My niece, working at the hospital, says they're still using Nat Guard supplied water tanks. Both my older sis's businesses (Biltmore) were wiped out. Places I have been a hundred times are no longer there. And before I forget....be SURE to have a LOT of extra clothes!!! I have a ton of scrubs in boxes here that I never use anymore that got pulled out. Shave with a pot pf boiled water, a rag bath, and clean scrubs to sleep in go far to keeping you sane! Dinner tonight was chilli mac. Still can't bring myself to buying perishable food. Scrub your feet well in hot soapy water each night!!! Finish them with sanitizer and clean socks!! The water runoff is bad! Got a Mossy 500 behind my front door and a Ruger on my belt. Got a .410 Snake Charmer that goes with me everywhere outside. Coyotes have come around three maybe four times now, raccoons all over. On the good side, we had a buck and four does a few days back and get this (((((32)))) turkeys in the lower pasture! They move around but I think I counted close to right. Apologies on the typoes, guys. Hands are aching and I'm wobbling on my feet. Sorry for the length. Feels good to vent. Good night, guys!

    Jason how can you get the message out to these people living in flooded homes that now have mold problems that they need to spray their homes with industrial Vinegar, peroxide and other essentials to remove mold? Also, they need to be taking high dose vitamin C & D to help counter some of the sickness they’re going to experience from the cold weather and mold.

    The greatest lesson after a disaster that takes lives is the fact that you survived. It’s not about resources because you set up another would “if” situation!!! You’ve never been caught up in one of those type deals before??? You cannot image the horror being drag to your death or completely watching your home being demolished in the sweeping current. It’s not about being prepared but surviving it. If you survived, that is the lesson learned period!!! You keep trying to speak of skills that does not apply when your in the epicenter of the crisis. Your survival skills does not apply. It’s the aftermath of the situation that’s the problem. Is there resources available to me. Can I make to a safe zone. Am I trapped under something and can’t get out. How long till safety comes. You can stock up on everything in the eff’en world and it’s not enough. You guys need to stop trying to come up with WOULD IF scenarios which you base all your assumptions on and around. You’ve never been in a true firefight with the enemy?? When bullets start flying you and you cannot run. Either you survive it or you don’t. I have been in those situations before in and out of the military. When a devastating disaster occurs your in the same situation only if your caught in the epicenter of the crisis. A tornado can fling your home, you, family, car and leave you without all that gear you been stockpiling and sustaining foods and water!!!! In 1989 I was called to and earthquake relief in California when I got slightly rocked back and forth, but when the people caught in the epicenter was dealing with collapsing debris. I’ve been in monsoons in the far east and had to get MRE’s for my barracks in howling winds and rains (took me hours to traverse my back to the barracks. Almost got blown away a couple of times). Double checking that our water bulls are ratcheted down so they don’t get blown away. A typhoon also and forgot about hurricane season as a teenager and got caught up. So when you say you’ve “learned” lessons. The only lesson is you survive it.., nothing more. You guys need to stop trying to act like your EXPERTS when you don’t have any training dealing with large scale magnitude crisis’s!!!! Your bug out bags don’t work period, your tiny EDC belt can’t provide enough aid. And that’s when you’re left to fend for yourself. YOUR TRYING TO PLACE A WOULD’VE COULD’VE scenario and say you’ve found a counter to this idea of a situation. When your system doesn’t work. Again the lesson learned is you’re alive nothing more. You don’t no that your making a mockery of the people that lost their lives, homes 🏠, livelihood, livestock etc..,

      Many have pneumonia now. Howling winds & below freezing temps in tents this morning, while many waiting on 200+ heaters that are to be delivered today or tomorrow, thanks to a citizen donor...per Deep River Farm.
      God bless everyone who helped & are still helping, & those who offered up & are still praying for everyone in the situation there.
      So many still trapped due to no roads, unable to get out of their area (Most have lost their vehicles, & don't have access to transportation or $ anyway). They're getting supplies to them by barge, using ropes to move them from one side to the other over water.
      Little lady in Burnsville is still cooking meals for the elderly...her "kitchen" was almost blown away, but she's getting help to shore up her work space so she can continue.

      @@NaomiSims-w5g I don’t think many are still trapped at their homes over a month and a half later. I’ve watched Jason’s updates and many other people and they all believe everyone has been rescued. The people are in desperate need of vehicles, paying bills on homes that are in bad condition or completely gone

    There are a lot of trees down. Wouldn’t a saw mill be helpful? They have small ones that people use to build a cabin. I watch a lot of Bushradical and he has one from harbor freight that he uses. The cider blocks lying around would be great for the foundation.. especially to build off the ground.

      I don't get it either. Not every area or person would benefit because every situation is different, but certainly some could benefit from such a set up.

    I do know that there are some roads that are 100% gone still and there are some that the only way through is with nothing bigger then the smaller jeep and it was hard for the jeep for the road that is gone the people have to walk for there home to a old logging trail where they can get a ride on a side by side to where they are going to. It's going to be a long time before they get power back first they need to put in a new roads then all new poles then they can put up new wires up on the new poles so them people are going to have a riley hard winter we all can't not forget about all of them people that are going to be in need all winter long . I pray 🙏 For all of the people that don't have homes or no power or roads or heat and health and for the senior citizens

    At first I thought you're using a very good camera now as the background is now blurred, but obviously it's some AI filter. You can easily see that, because the borders between sharp and blurry are, well, blurry. With a good camera the lines would be sharp. I personally prefer the original video without AI blurring.

    • @Allisillusion-z3f
      @Allisillusion-z3f 4 дня назад

      Real Estate Mindset has that, and I also prefer no filter. The blur is actually distracting, as is all the music many folks put in backgrounds. Especially really sad music. The scenes speak for themselves. It's tragic enough.

    • @ONThree
      @ONThree  3 дня назад

      It’s actually my cameras setting and not AI. The downside to that lens option is that it doesn’t always focus as well. It’s a bit annoying and I won’t use it as much.
