Running AND jumping rope are both very good. Jogging is better than nothing but too easy after a while and not enough to push your cardio. Interval sprints are better than long distance slow jogging.
just thought you should know my older Brother Jay Taught me some of the Basics of Boxing. But i learned a lot more from you Videos. i've watch other videos on Boxing but i feel your the better videos to learn from. i think your awesome and very informative. you taught me how to Breath wile working my Body Bag And i never realized i was throwing my jabs wrong. but i was wondering how the best way to practice uppercuts with the body Bag.
Great tip about the crossovers. I'm guilty of only crossing to the wrists and not the elbows which helps explains why my cross overs are inconsistent. Never realized it until I viewed this video.
this is really helpful i always admired boxing but never had the time or $ to join an actual boxing gym so i try and do these at home or at my current fitness gym thank you
Thanks for the tips! Especially the cross-over has been on my list for a while now. Always crossed at my wrists and didn't know why it didn't work. Tried it our right now while crossing the ellbows and it suddenly works! Thanks really!
One other thing.I agree crosses to the elbows is so much faster, but I find it hard to do crosses that way when running in place. I see some Floyd videos and he's crossing while running. Any tips on that as well?
Keep calm and keep trying. Nose-breathing is very hard for people who never breathe that way. The muscle is weak and gets tired easily. But the important thing is to stay calm and let your nose breathing slow down your heartbeat. If you panic, you'll feel like you can't get enough air. Besides, mouth-breathing can be done without opening your mouth. Fighters typically exhale through their mouthpiece.
Great instruction I have no problems doing double unders, but my crossovers tend to be with one knee up always and I think its primarily because of doing figure 8s instead of the down motion which is clean.
1st time with the jump rope today ! I'm not to good yet I can only jump like 20-35 times with out messing up . but I can do double already ! But I'm gonna jump every day and maybe even make a shout out video when I can do the double crosses haha! Thanks for the tips ! Quick question when I jump and try to breathe through my nose I feel like I can't suck in enough air,so I breathe like I'm running in through nose out through mouth , any tips to clear the airways of the nose or something?
Looks like I've been doin figure 8s perhaaaps. And I can do right hand under, but right hand over is trickier... good tips. I got some practice to do for my crosses.
I want to be like a ninja turtle though....😂😂😂 You always make outstanding videos. I train under a 7° Black Belt, and just as he does, you draw my attention, to you as you speak, and you're never boring, but you're very detailed and precise. Good job!
i have a rope where the rope itself comes out the side of the handle like yours....but when i do the side swoosh thing ...it gets tangled ...so i cant incorporate side swooshing inot my routine......can you side to side swish during a fast routine with your ropes coming out the side
Wassup man, I just sparred and I was mostly taking hits but was very aggressive and destroying my opponent. I just wanted to know if doing that was wrong and how to breath better. Thanks.
I've been jumping with thick jumping rope now its hard for me to jump with thin one, i think that doing these tricks will be a bit dangerous. Do i have to jump with thin one to learn these tricks?
hello there, jus a few question.. What's the advantage of practicing these tricks? I mean, isn't general skipping enough to condition ourselves? Oh and, for how long should I skip everyday?
Johnny I have a question. When u demonstrate the crosses as you describe it " some pro when they do it" when ur jumping there it looks like your crossing twice. Its hard to tell. Are u crossing once there? I'm having trouble doing the double crosses consecutively. I can do them one at a time.
I don't understand your question. One jump means the rope goes under my feet once before I land again. Double jump means the rope goes under my feet twice before I land again.
hey when you do that double cross over, does the rope clear your feet before or after your feet touch down after you cross? I cant tell on your video. When i try this it ends up hitting my feet before i get to jump again.
I really don't agree with this on so many levels. There are so many sports and physical exercises that use similar movements. The body does this quite naturally and easily. I don't know where you learned this but many physical movements would be considered (in your standards) "bad for the heart" because they use a jump in place.
Link the video because this is really way off what I've seen. Every champion I've ever seen train (over 20) jumped rope in place. Everybody at Wildcard Boxing gym jumps rope in place. Manny Pacquiao's doing it everyday and he's got great cardio if you ask me.
Hey johnny, I wanted to say thanks. I'm guilty of the figure 8s but I've changed it. I'm having big troubles getting that double cross over. I see that the speed to spinning the rope twice is crossing super fast and back. I see some guys feet kind of lean forward a bit in the jump. Maybe that's because like you said u have to pick ur butt up a bit. Any more tip on this double cross over that u can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I just got a new metal coated rope.check my video.Thks
Could you please provide a credible source that backs up your claim? Maybe you're referring to the line used by Ali's trainer in the movie "Ali". If so, he clearly meant that jumping in one spot does no good for the heart of a boxer, you need to move around more to intensify the workout. There is no evidence showing that jumping rope in one spot is bad for the heart, logically it does not make sense.
Running AND jumping rope are both very good. Jogging is better than nothing but too easy after a while and not enough to push your cardio. Interval sprints are better than long distance slow jogging.
Wow. The double cross over is fantastic!
Wonderful.
Man you could be making videos about how to make apple pie and I would still watch them. Great tips, I'll keep them in mind!
How about cherry pies?
Oh, definitely!
One word. Legend. 👍
Great suggestion. Thank you.

The BEST set of practical tips I've seen on the subject! Great job and thanks for the very relevant info brother!!!
I know the feeling! And I'm happy for you.
You're a great teacher Johnny! Thank you for all your videos my friend :)
Fantastic video!
I would like to see more types of moves that can be incorporated into a drill.
Will be looking forward to this video.
Genius Mr Johny. Good watch as usual!!
thank you matt
some good tips here, thanks. love the channel, keep up the good work 👍
Great advice thank you
I really like this one! thanks for the tips and advice!

really enjoyed the video...just one Q which jump rope is that?
One other thing.I agree crosses to the elbows is so much faster, but I find it hard to do crosses that way when running in place. I see some Floyd videos and he's crossing while running. Any tips on that as well?
Respect for the tips brother.

Nice videos... Thanks
thanks for all your video. Very inspiring
thank U! Awsome tips!!!
great video
Yeaup, keep working it. I can take a lot of back muscle.

Good advice, well done. GB
Doing more jump rope tricks raises your coordination and conditioning of different muscles. 10 minutes a day is a good start.
that was really useful thanks :-)
Looks like I've been doin figure 8s perhaaaps. And I can do right hand under, but right hand over is trickier... good tips. I got some practice to do for my crosses.
Can you give some tips how to do/learn squat jumps, like Roberto Duran?
I can do crossovers using your tips. Thanks!
Good video
Awesome video :)

Hey Johnny,
Is doing tricks really helpful for my performance?
coz I cant do them more than 3-4 times after trying so much :/
i have a rope where the rope itself comes out the side of the handle like yours....but when i do the side swoosh thing ...it gets tangled ...so i cant incorporate side swooshing inot my routine......can you side to side swish during a fast routine with your ropes coming out the side

tips good..
Boxing workouts.
Oh thankyou very much :)
I have a boxing jump rope training guide on my website that has the link to the website I purchase my jump ropes from.
hello there, jus a few question..
What's the advantage of practicing these tricks?
I mean, isn't general skipping enough to condition ourselves?
Oh and, for how long should I skip everyday?
Yeees! Thanks you.
Thnx man now I can crossover skip but I can not do double skip yet bu I'm definitely closer
Was this filmed at Nelson’s boxing gym?
Thanks

awesome
Boxer speed rope.
I don't understand your question. One jump means the rope goes under my feet once before I land again. Double jump means the rope goes under my feet twice before I land again.
I go straight.
hey when you do that double cross over, does the rope clear your feet before or after your feet touch down after you cross? I cant tell on your video. When i try this it ends up hitting my feet before i get to jump again.
Hey Johnny, How do I run in place while jumping rope. I try but still don't get it.
I really don't agree with this on so many levels. There are so many sports and physical exercises that use similar movements. The body does this quite naturally and easily. I don't know where you learned this but many physical movements would be considered (in your standards) "bad for the heart" because they use a jump in place.
Instead of trying to actually do a running motion, try concentrating on lifting your knees.
Link the video because this is really way off what I've seen. Every champion I've ever seen train (over 20) jumped rope in place. Everybody at Wildcard Boxing gym jumps rope in place. Manny Pacquiao's doing it everyday and he's got great cardio if you ask me.
It is so use full to foot doke
do you break it down or 10 minutes str8
Can you message me a link on what kind of rope i should be using?
For double cross overs the rope is rotating twice?
It looks like its only one rotation and your just jumping higher
in new Zealand we have a day that is awareness for heart dieses and we jump rope for 30 mins. It must be good for youre heart lol
whats your weight? just curious and height? :)
Do those shoes u use have good support ?
Mr.Steve Blazer I don't know what you mean by "support"...you mean ankle support? They're good enough for me.
expertboxing like when u jump or stomp can u feel it cleanly through or its has strong padding
No, boxing shoes are generally very lightly padded (to give you more "feel" around the ring). The ring itself is plenty padded already.
expertboxing do u run with those ?
+Mr.Steve Blazer boxing shoes aren't made for running
...you can hear the sound of the rope passing twice.
5'7", 142lbs.
What's the rope called ?
What kind of jump rope is that?
There's a jump rope article on my site where I have the link to the store. Check it out.

These are MMA grappling shorts.
I have another video where I run through various tricks on the jump rope. Check it out.
Let me know if you get it!
Ah so I see just like everything else on the human body just needs a bit of conditioning haha thanks ,going to rope now!
I find it easier to cross while running in place as the buttock is naturally sticking out and it's much faster than two legged jumps.
I have a video on breathing; check it out!
Can you do it slower so we can actually how the process is Done?
For what trick?
By the way when I say crossing twice I'm referring to 2 rotations .
Man I tried but rope keep smacking me on my neck and the shit hurt
Because I don't wanna breathe like that during a fight and get knocked out because my mouth was open

lol
why his abs are kinda fat?
Because I'm breathing normally instead of flexing it in like I'm trying to shoot a facebook selfie.
Great advice thank you
tips good..
