Honestly, while everyone says that the Emporer was the most evil Skeksis, I think it's actually skekSil. Yes, the Emporer was willing to commit genocide and held no qualms with killing/imprisoning allies when they were no longer useful (i.e. Seladon was thrown in jail when she tried to reform the alliance). But at the same time, he seemed to genuinely care for the other Skekses and was willing to give up all of his essence (easily his most valuable possession) to save skekMal. But skekSil came up with the original plan to steal the Gelflings' life force, and he constantly manipulated, lied to, betrayed or killed anyone who tried to derail his plans (he blamed skekTek for Rian escaping and cost him his eye, he sent Rian's father after him while intending to kill them both, and he saved skekVar's life just so he could kill him later). So, yeah, skekSil is the evilest.
Important thing to remember about Skeksil: He seemed to be one of the few Skeksis who understood sustainability. While the rest of the Skeksis immediately wanted to drain every single Gelfling for Essence, the Chamberlin pushed for draining only as many as they needed, so the Gelfling population would be able to recuperate and recover their losses. Socialism/Communism are far worst slavery systems. At least in Capitalism you can leave said shitty job. You can't do anything without the Governments permission in a Socialist economy.
@@damiengorgoroth5918 You don't understand the difference between socialism and communism, from the way you have stated that. Socialist principles at the governmental level try to ensure that resources are being used in ways that mean that everyone in that society benefits, through things like housing, medical care, education etc. There may be considerable private ownership, or maybe it's limited, but you are meant to be someone who makes your own choices and free associates with others for common good, in organisations based around meaningful and helpful production. Examples of countries that are influenced by socialist principles include the Nordic countries, where they try and ensure a minimum standard of living for everyone that enables everyone to participate positively, recognising that some people will do more than others, within a capitalist economy with private ownership and mainly private ownership of companies, but with a lot of state companies that work for the public. Venezuela is notionally socialist but it's a terrible example because it's closer to a dictatorship with a veil of socialist principles but in reality is run like a fascist state with no concern for the people in it, hence the poor standard of living there. Their economy isn't managed, it's just capitalism where those in charge are the party or those connected to it with corruption and bribery deciding who gets to be in charge of things. North Korea is almost completely socialist in one sense in that people are given education, medical care and housing freely and money isn't as important there as it is in free market systems, but the people don't own anything, they're just subjects of the Great Leader.
Chamberlain is a sheer joy to watch, probably because he's the one villain given the most to do and a compelling personality to do it with. When I first watched the movie a few months back, his whimpering and gift of gab made SkekSil the most interesting character in my eyes. The novel and Age of Resistance have only helped to reaffirm this status, maybe even deepened it now that I've seen the depths he's been willing to go in his various power plays. It's too bad he was taken off the board in the original movie, because I think he could easily have carried a whole sequel or two with himself at the top. Basically, I think of this guy the same way I think of Loki in the first few MCU movies, a really fun villain who more than earns loyalty from viewers.
I love SkekSil. Like the list of all Skeksis says, “Although a bit strange, SkekSil was actually the only one with the most common sense.” This is true. Look what he did to SkekVar the General. He saved his live to gain his trust, and then after SkekVar was stabbed by Rian, SkekSil took advantage of the opportunity and killed the General.
I know like from the transformers for example, SkekSo the Emperor- The fallen SkekVar the General- Megatron SkekSil the chamberlian- Starscream SkekTek the scientist- Shockwave SkekAyuk the gourmand- Trypticon and, SkekMal the hunter- Lockdown
Thanks for the video! SkekSil is a great character... Machiavellian to the max! I think whimpering sycophant sells him short as he is crafty with a keen intelligence that's covered by broken speech and grovelling. Disgusting personality but a beloved character!
in the original version of the movie not shown in cinemas, the skeksis had their own language. in this version, it was skek-ung who demanded the trial by stone. the chamberlain was forced to agree as to not look like a weakling. when they re-dubbed the movie in english, they had to change the dialog slightly as to match it with the movements of their mouths, thus leading to the chamberlain suggesting a trial by stone.
@@littledragon175 I meant to say "original dub". the skeksis had their own language in the first dub, but it was deemed too strange and exhausting for the audience, so they redubbed the entire movie in english
I love these Skeksis biography videos, they’re so well put together and have such interesting information that I would have never learned myself. Keep up the great work, you’re one of my favourite Dark Crystal RUclipsrs!
Great videos! I loved the great writing and action on the series, especially in the carriage ride with the Chamberlain's opinion of the hierarchy of Thra's creatures. He almost makes sense, that Rian should just accept the way things are, making him lose all hope, followed by the most badass puppet car chase scene. Amazing!
Awesome!Fabulously told! So far, the Emperor, the Chamberlain, The Scientist and The Ritual-master are the Skeksis I love (or love to hate) most! I can't wait for the Ritual master's and scientist's videos!
One of my ultimate favorite Skeksis. His "Hmmmmm" is Classic with a capital C. But I can't help but wonder, how did he know about Rian's dad getting gobbled by gobbles? He wasn't there to witness it. Or was he? Was he lurking in the shadow-cloaked trees? Probably...
It's so easy to be lured in by this one, with his soft voice and smiling face. He has always been my favorite, tho I like all the Skeksis in different ways. His robe colors stood out from the others', as did his face. Most of the others had more of like frowning faces, while his looked happy. I also liked more of his approach to usually no violence unless needed. He was more of a Skeksis who didn't attack unless provoked. Since of course, he wasn't one of the most strongest in strength either, but he was stronger than most Gelfling. Tho I can't help but wonder if he had been banished a lot sooner, what would Sil have been able to become after that? Could he have had the ability to change at all, like SkekGra did? I mean if he had gotten sick of being bullied by so many of the others when they never seemed to take him seriously. But too many people take the ability of speech for granted. Sil sure didn't seem to, even tho he spoke in broken, but simple words. Just some thoughts on why I like him.
I have a theory the Urskeks who was known as DarkHeart was SILSOL because the Chanter Mystic UrSol is a musician, so SILSOL would have been that as well since the urskek occupations live on in the Mystics. DarkHeart was a Musician and SILSOL was the only known Musician out of the 18 Urskeks of Thra. Even SkekSIL had a musical tune in his whimper. He was trouble from the start before he even became a Skeksis.
Rian: Just help me save Deet's life. I can't live without her. SkekSil: Mmmmm to cheat death is the power only one has achieved, but if we work together, I know we can discover the secret.
I can actually see that happening in the second season (If there was one, I'm still mad at Netflix). Only Rian probably wouldn't be so gullible, and backstabbing is sure.
"This is what I do. I plant stories into ground, watch them grow into truth. Keep Gelfling looking over shoulder, and they will never see what's right in front of them."

Will you possibly do a character analysis of Seladon? Been rewatching the series and frankly, it still baffles me what made her that way as to completely backstab her entire Race. And I also feel she doesn’t deserve a redemption Arc... or at least they wrote it too early.
Seladon struck me as being a narcissist the entire time. She was jealous of her smart sister and was constantly looking for compliments and accolades from her All Mordra mother. She was a bottomless pit that needed constant ego stroking, and that’s why she turned against her family. That was classic narcissistic discard when she believed she lined up a new source of narc fuel from the Skeksis and her soon-to-be new position as ruler.
@@toscadonna thank you!! That being said (which makes excellent sense) i still think she doesn’t deserve a redemption arc or that they did it too soon... frankly in season two, she strikes me as a true Judas who will try to side with the Skeksis again and this time, pay the price.
Everyone remembers the Chamberlain. I have only recently refound Dark Crystal. I need to see age of resistance and I have a lot to catch up on. These vids are a good start.

Where does "Chief Secretary of State" come from on Dark Crystal sources? And I think the way the fan wiki says urSol can "shake the earth and freeze waterfalls" could be taken wrongly. World of The Dark Crystal actually says he "made all the different stones of the valley tremble" and could "make waterfalls still". Some could take "freeze" as in making it turn 32°F :D Anyways, where does the "natural and unnatural" voice come from? Him killing his own kind does seem to be unique amongst the Skeksis! Oh, and have you read Power of the Dark Crystal? Cause his dark adventures didn't end with the film! :D
Oh yes they did! Haha, i'm really not a fan of everyone coming back, so i hope they don't use that story line in the future. Natural because one is good, unnatural because one is bad. And the SoS is in the opening line of his wiki page:)
@@DreamfastwithMe fan wikis, especially for Dark Crystal, have lots of head Canon or errors in them, unfortunately... Though I do admit over the year they have gotten better. Still though, they make things up too much for my taste :)
What is there to say about the Chamberlain that hasn’t already been said? He’s sneaky, cunning and incredibly smart. 3:40 to 3:59 I love how UrSol and SkekSil both use their voices to make things happen, in one way or another. Another thing is that while many may think UrSol being a chanter is not such a useful trait, music is actually quite powerful. As said in this video, UrSol could freeze waterfalls and make all of Thra tremble with one note. I can only imagine how many wine glasses he could break if he wanted to.
I've always loved SkekSil because he was very cunning, and the most logical, and the fact that he makes fun of SkekTek, I mean, you gotta love him. His whimper is also one of the reasons I love him so much. Just peace and quiet then all of a sudden, "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM". Hilarious. I also do the whimper to torture my friend. It's funny.
As a child, watching the original Dark Crystal, Chamberlain was the Skesis I hated & loved the most. I hated his duplicitousness, but always laughed at how he always moaned and whined with his characteristic "Hmmmmmmm?? Mmmmmmm . . . ." My mom still laughs at him to this day cuz of that!! When I was a child, I thought he was a "she." And in that seen in the beginning where they ripped off his clothes --- I thought they were ripping off of his his skin because of the way he was hollering as if it hurt him and because after his "clothes" were gone, he was all skinny as if they had ripped off all of his meat/flesh. I didn't realize at the time that that was the true form of his body underneath cuz birds aren't anything but compositions of small, frail bones underneath all of their feathers --- the same way cats look pitiful and skinny (like sphinx cats) without their fur. That scene traumatized the hell out of me as a child, thinking Chamberlain was being skinned alive. Even though I know better now, it still unsettles me to watch that scene.
I belive that the main antagonist of the dark crystal universe is not SkekSo the Emperor, not SkekUng the Garthim master, but SkekSil the Chamberlain. Think about it. He was the one who made the idea to drain gelfling essence. He was the one who followed Jen and Kira so he could get back into power. He was the main Skeksis in the comic series the power of the dark crystal, who followed the main characters to get his hands on the crystal shard as he explained quote "mmmmmmmmm. Shard. Skeksis want shard GONE...Gelfling want KEEP...Fire-brat want shard for SELF...Shard...IMPORTANT. mmmmmmmm. Shard is POWER!" Chamberlain was the master of deception. He was willing to have SkekTek lose his eye and take the blame of losing the essence just to save himself. He was the one who sent SkekMal to find Ryan. He was the one who poisoned SkekVar the general so he could gain his trust, only to betray it.
Im my opinion he is smart asf imagine being able to weasel ur way out of most issues and being blood thristy enough to kill skekvar also he seems to be the only one not truly terrified of death and rather wants to be emperor and remember how he would rather not kill all only a small few he was the only skeksis to thung about what might happen if they drain all the gelfing
Something I find funny is that UrSol is the chanter, so this means SkekSil’s original job was Musican, and I’m sad I’ve yet to see fan art of him playing a saxophone.
The first full-bodied puppets created by Jim Henson were Splurge and Delbert the La Choy Dragon. Henson did the voice for Delbert, but the actual puppeteering was done by Frank Oz. He hated every moment working blind inside those heavy suits. (And Henson relished that!) (In fact, there's a story that Oz declined the role of Big Bird because of that!) Then he did the full-bodied monster Muppet Thig for a 1970 hour-long Christmas special called _The Great Santa Claus Switch_ . That left poor Oz with fallen arches! So I'm flabbergasted that Henson was able to convince Oz to take of SkekSil! Those were the heaviest costumes/puppets yet! 30 to 45 pounds!
His adventures haven´t ended there though. There is the follow up comic Beneath the Dark Crystal where the Skeksis return. SkekSil is a big part of the mess as usual. It´s part of the cannon. I don´t want to post spoilers, in case you haven´t read it yet.
SkekSil is terrifying because his manipulation is convincing! In the movie I believed him when he pleaded with Jen and Kira. I thought he was good! Initially…

I did not expect the Mmmmmmmm at the end..
Salty Wizard I did
Expect it:)
Mmmmmmm
We finally get to the creep of all skeksis!
Ah Yes...
Starscream~
He's like a much more cunning Starscream.
@@Relugus True but at least Starscream has succeeeded a few times
I know like from the transformers for example,
SkekSo the Emperor- The fallen
SkekVar the General- Megatron
SkekSil the chamberlian- Starscream
SkekTek the scientist- Shockwave
SkekAyuk the gourmand- Trypticon
and,
SkekMal the hunter- Lockdown
Thanks for the video! SkekSil is a great character... Machiavellian to the max! I think whimpering sycophant sells him short as he is crafty with a keen intelligence that's covered by broken speech and grovelling. Disgusting personality but a beloved character!
I always find it odd that he chose a Trial by Stone against skekUng. I would have thought he'd have chosen something more in his comfort zone.
sam rizzardi I guess everyone makes a mistake
in the original version of the movie not shown in cinemas, the skeksis had their own language. in this version, it was skek-ung who demanded the trial by stone. the chamberlain was forced to agree as to not look like a weakling. when they re-dubbed the movie in english, they had to change the dialog slightly as to match it with the movements of their mouths, thus leading to the chamberlain suggesting a trial by stone.
@@dracu9833 Original version??
@@littledragon175 I meant to say "original dub". the skeksis had their own language in the first dub, but it was deemed too strange and exhausting for the audience, so they redubbed the entire movie in english
@@dracu9833 Thanks, I didn't know that. I am researching it right now =D
I love these Skeksis biography videos, they’re so well put together and have such interesting information that I would have never learned myself. Keep up the great work, you’re one of my favourite Dark Crystal RUclipsrs!
Thank you so much, more to come soon!
SkekUng: CHAMBERLIN! PUT DOWN THAT SCEPTER!
SkekSil: Get back spithead!
Chamberlain: I am only reason gelfling still alive
Me: you came up with the idea to drain gelfling
Him: must stop talking, yes hmmmmmmmmm?
Great videos! I loved the great writing and action on the series, especially in the carriage ride with the Chamberlain's opinion of the hierarchy of Thra's creatures. He almost makes sense, that Rian should just accept the way things are, making him lose all hope, followed by the most badass puppet car chase scene. Amazing!
Totally agree!
I love the Chamberlain he’s my favorite
Awesome!Fabulously told! So far, the Emperor, the Chamberlain, The Scientist and The Ritual-master are the Skeksis I love (or love to hate) most! I can't wait for the Ritual master's and scientist's videos!
I love that whimper ❤
Really wonderful video, I’m glad things are looking up for you!
Thank you so much!
The *Irony* is that the Chamberlain is the 'only' SkekSis that ever achieved 'true' immortality in a way; or Form.
He *still* lives(!) on the Prism
The question is that even canon?! To the actual films and series?!
@@damiamtran9824 read the fireling series; they are sequels
SkekSil in three words:
Frriend pleeeease mmmmmmmmmm
Does anyone one else think that the Chamberlain and his Mystic counterpart were originally the Urskek Darkheart?
I was thinking the same thing since dark heart loved music plus he's so arrogant and responsible for all the evil things the skeksis had done
Probably the only Skeksis I would be willing sit with.
The Ornamentalist has the best table manners.
@@rosesweetcharlotte Yeah, but, he creeps me out. I mean they all do, but at least Chamberlain avoids fights when he can.
To be honest, I’d be honoured if I could sit with both the Chamberlain and the Scientist. That is a conversation I’d love to get into.
SkekSil was always the most untrusting and wormy of the Skeksis. Also great job!
He spread lies but urSol used his voice to help Thra
You uploaded this on my birthday! :D
Happy late birthday my friend! Thank you so much for being a part of this community!
I always thought of Skeksil as the Starscream to Skekso's Megatron.
The ritual master is my favorite skeksis

@@yamiblade we must be punished!!!!

Ooh ooh I've seen some of the politicians here in the U.S. do that! Notgonnasaywhichtho.

It would be wonderful if your Dark Crystal themed music were available for purchase. Your other tracks are awesome too. Great work! MmmmmMmmmmmMmmmmm.... 💜
Thank you so much, i greatly appreciate that! They might be someday, but i don't really sell my tunes. I just enjoy making them. If you do want to support me though, i have a Patreon set up:)
I find it a bit incomplete, knowing that it persecutes Thurma and Kenso during practically all their adventure during the events of The Power of Dark Crystal
I'm writing my own dark crystal au for the amino ^-^ I'm excited for the first episode to come out.
How are you by the way? I hope your doing alright. Just know, you don't have to upload for us 24/7. We can wait for uploads! ^-^ take a break any time. Loved the video

Thank you so much, i appreciate that! Thankfully things are back on track now, so much more to come soon!
@@DreamfastwithMe I'm hoping for an announcement at the great con-junction this year!!!! ^-^
I hope the Chamberlain gets the ability to Animal Soul Speak like in Legends of The Dark Crystal in season 2.
SkekSil is the Starscream of the Dark Crystal if Scream was more in control of his emotions.
Though he's whimpering, legend says that hes still pissed at SkekSo
Everyone remembers the Chamberlain. I have only recently refound Dark Crystal. I need to see age of resistance and I have a lot to catch up on. These vids are a good start.
He's such a terrific character, who can manipulate the minds with lies, and for his whimpers. This is why I really LUV about him, and designed a daughter 4 him 🖤❤💚😍
He's like Starscream if Starscream knew his weaknesses and humbled himself to benefit himself.
SkekSil is not dead. He is still reunited with UrSol. The Sequel doesn’t count for me.
@Dreamfast With Me Hey! Sorry to bother, but could you please link me to your SoundCloud? I love the music in your videos!
Sure, thank you so much! Here it is: soundcloud.com/gallowsound ...its also linked on my channel banner:) The tracks you would be interested in have the Dark Crystal titles, the rest is my other music.
"Where does "Chief Secretary of State" come from on Dark Crystal sources?
"
The novelisation.
The chamberlain’s most compelling argument has always been “mmmHMMMMMMMMM”
Most compelling would definitely have more M's haha
Hahahaha. Your Mhhhhhhhhh at the end is really cute.
When are you going to do a bio on the Gelfling twins Naia and Gurjin???
Have to give it some time. More Skeksis bios first, then hopefully the clan videos. So in the near future:)
Dreamfast with Me sounds good I just read the books and the skeksis could not drain Gurjin because they didn’t have his twin sister Niai
Finally! Im soooo excited!!!!
i like you put the whimpers in the final
“I hate your whimper!”-skekUng.
It's funny.
In the film, it was his "Please? Please. Please? PLEASE." that I found the most unnerving.
The Chamberlain is such an important Skeksis that he has his own theme music!
He is amazing smart and very unique that's why he is the favorite among fans
Silver snaked tongue. Sooo freaking true.
Possibly the most evil character in Dark Crystal. Survives.
He also gave the idea of skektek creating an army which lead to the garthim
Interesting that you did not include his adventures in power of the dark crystal and ultimate demise and fate afterwards
Skeksil is basically Littlefinger from GOT
Aw yes! They certainly play the game well...crafting and weaving chaos within their respective realm. 😌
Anytime Skeksil murmurs, he's working out a new plot
Ugh...the part when they're de~robing Chamberlain terrified me as a child. Actually, still kinda does now that I think of it 😝😒
Can you pls make one for skektek the scientist hes my fav skeksis
The inadvertently hero. Nice. Redeemed himself.
Skekayuk the gormond
good channel name, subscribed.
Something I find funny is that UrSol is the chanter, so this means SkekSil’s original job was Musican, and I’m sad I’ve yet to see fan art of him playing a saxophone.
“Coronation Chamberlain? This is bad comedy”
4:20 he looks happy. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have never seen the movie, I think not even my parents... but we loved the Netflix series, especially that "Mmmmmm ..."
31k people: Mmmmmm interesting...

One the way! I have lots of content to get through. You have to give me some time, being the only DC explained channel:)

Initially…
