I've been working on a few courses on digital painting - especially getting started with it. Today, I thought I'd share one of the videos from that for free. It's an introduction to speed painting! Check it out!
I'm showing what speed painting is, how it typically is done, a few examples of it and a more in-depth walkthrough to one painting.

lol "Don't care about the details at this point" - while making cracks on the rocks
I'm currently joining the Concept art route and what really amazes me about concept artist is that they draw 4 squares, 2 lines, 3 shadows and one light and the draw something that makes you say "Oh! that's a ____" simply amazing :)
His quick paintings are absurdly better than anything I could ever do even if I spent days on it. *cries in corner*
Isabella Sauthier study form and light. This helps you represent what you memorize. Then study different things, faces, bodies, gesture, animals color. These are the things with shapes. You need to build 3D rotations of these in your head. But start with form and light. Draw floating grey blocks, render them as much us possible so it looks like you can reach out and grab them. Advance to more complicated grey shapes and draw them every day as an aid to the other studying you do that day. It's a lot of fun. These grey blocks were all I made to win the art show at my school. Put on some good music and get to painting.
He put his video on speed to fast forward it thru the work, otherwise this vid would have lasted over several hours ;)
Tom Jey
30-40 min one work, he was telling
keatonwice "I have no digital painting skill or experience" they said. That's why that person said the other person was a beginner
(I'm on android, that's why I say "the person" (can't see the names while writing my comment))
@Dalton Beauregard u seem like u know what u talking do u have an insta or something where i can direct message u if it's not too much of a bother i just need some guidance and what u said kinda help but am also kind of confused
Many of the tutorials I've attended, are just a lot of content, explained in an out complex, only for those who already know something, but your tutorial is perfect, especially for those who are beginner, you explain in a very clear and informative way.
I'm happy to hear that. :)
this must be the first time i learned so much from a video, especially as a beginner in digital painting ...
Hell, I know the feels. The guy knows what he's doing in the whole teaching thing, also demonstrated by the kind of info (amount and quality) he puts out for free. That's how good teachers/good art schools work in the broadband age, you can learn sooo fucking much on your own so you really know where to take courses eventually, and to not be such a huge pain in the ass when they start working with ya one on one. Nordsken has a really great approach to the thing on top of that, he really tells one what to do and not just a lot of stuff that was basically clear anyway w/ a painting demo like in a lot of first gen art tutorials.
You see, this is the tutorial that we have been wanting for years and never got. Until now. Thank you for this video, it is the most helpful video about digital painting that I think I have ever seen.
I'm very glad to receive such a comment! And I'm happy I can be of any help to people wanting to get into painting and becoming good artists. :) I am currently working on a free course + a larger in-depth course on digital painting, so stay tuned on www.evenant.com (subscribe on the Design!). :)
DAMNIT! I don't have time to watch this now but I just NEEDED to tell you Walid how excited I was just watching the first 30 seconds and the prospect of watching this all tomorrow. You are amazing to share your own time with us. thank you SO much. Ty for the email updating me for this tutorial
Happy to hear that! :)
Love the last painting! Great sense of scale! Amazing choice of colours! Awesome! (Y)
Happy you enjoyed it! Thanks. Best, W.
Hands down one of the best tutorial series i've come across :D Much love from Norway
Hands down the best video for this kind of stuff, thank you it was really helpful.
I'm trying man! 30 minutes to you is 10 hours for me. I'll get there.
You're a lifesaver. I always hate making backgrounds for the characters I've made, but you have opened my eyes to see that it can be fun!
Thank you so much! I've always wanted to learn or create landscape concept art. This helps me a lot as I tend to get very meticulous about my drawings/paintings - which in the end, frustrates me to continue anything. After watching your video, it makes me feel lighter.
love the simplicity, and all in 1 max 2 layers. respect
Damn these are so useful, I've been binging like all your tutorial videos recently and they are so helpful! Like everything you say is useful and interesting and I leave every video feeling so inspired and like I have learned so much! Definitely looking forward to putting this into practice :D Keep it up dude, you're awesome!
I can actually feel the air in those mountains. Also, as someone who has been drawing creatures and characters for a while, maybe I should try some landscapes. It looks so awesome and therapeutic to do.
I usually don't ever comment, but I just wanted to say that I am so glad I found your channel. I am learning so much from all of your lessons, and your uplifting personality really makes one feel like they can accomplish what they aim to do. I look forward to seeing more videos from you and hope that I will get to your level someday! Cheers!
I’m so glad this was on my recommendation vids! Thank you so much for creating this!😇
Ahah your final touch with the sharp filter is amazing thank you i finally know how make this effect that i like so much lol
Your tutorials are so effective! Thanks a lot, Walid!
you're one of the best artists I've. ever seen. Not only because your art is incredibly good. It's also because you seem to know what you're doing and talking about. Most videos I've seen are just complex ramblings. While you, are just straight forward and clear. (Also, you seem to really enjoy talking about stuff like this. makes me feel motivated. I've worked with some artists and they seemed to quite.. suck.. in the way they're bringing "the message" to another.
sorry for my bad English tough. :p
Freya de Vries Aw thank you very much
I learned a lot from you already :D and I will
I’m going to enter in first year of a concept art school next year, it’s the perfect channel and tips for me thank you !
Congrats and good luck! You can do this!
Nice ! I wish you a good adventure !
I love to look at concept art because it leaves room for our brain to interprete, which makes it feels so good.
yes yes yes !!! this one is changed my life brother thank you very much !! it's helpful and i never seen before , i loved your channel you are my teacher hahaha thank you!!!
great tutorial, I leard a lot from you. I'm a beginner and all I do all day is watching tutorials...yours is perfect! Keep on going! Thanks :)
Albert B. Is one of the grestest landscape painters. I love his compositions and use of light. Thank you for the tutorial.
This artwork is absolutely beautiful
Wow Albert Bierstadt was so ahead of his time and your painting style has his influence. I love an artist who know his history.
keep uploading man , people like you are all some people have . No one in my area knows what its like to see interesting images in my mind and struggling to make it a reality !
i love this channel already
The last one is my favorite. The atmosphere and golden sunset. Speed painting seems to be a good way to loosen up, which is something I need to improve on.
Superb works! Thanks a lot for the demo.
I am a graphic design student in my first year, but I had never used a graphics tablet. This video inspired me to buy the wacom intuos small. Now following your tutorials. Thanks! i've always dreamed of creating my own concept art etc. for my projects. You're explaining is very good.
Wow! Your channel is SO damn great! :D Easily one of the best to learn to properly paint digitally. Recently just bought a Wacom (Intuos S. Nothing fancy of course) so I can start to get into it. I always over think things and never manage to complete something, but this tutorial in particular helped a lot! Thanks :D
I wish this is what I could've been taught in my digital painting class, instead, we learnt how to photo bash the entire semester XD
Amazing work. Thank you!!!!
Really appreciate a video like this!
I'm glad you find it useful! If you want more similar tutorials and brushes and such, subscribe to the design newsletter I have over at www.evenant.com/design-sign-up/ :)

You are brilliantly talented! Thank you so much for sharing your process and ideas! :)
hello! I've stumbled upon this video and I just want to say that you kind of opened my eyes! Like I've never really done speed paintings and it really helped me develope my ideas!! Making speed paintings is something obvious to do but I didn't actually do it until you told me that this is an option hahaha Thanks for the nice video!
Holly crap this is really cool and informative, I absolutely love the feel of this paint, this is the stuff that I tried to paint the other day and failed terribly, this kind of sci-fy desert landscape with almost the same color scheme and really orange sunset in the horizon plus the lens flare, overall awesome video! thanks for the tips
This is so relaxing to watch
Awesome works, subscribed!
Aaaaaah!! I wish i had seen this much earlier! Superb explanation.! Thank you!
Wow I love the end result on the last example. Well done!

Great video man !!!
Nice job on the work and a big thank you for this tutorial. It was so easy for me to understand and that's something not many people can achieve being able to talk to every artist who wants to paint in concept.
Also subscribed because well why not after such a helpful video.
Really great works and instruction to learners. Thank you.

Thank you sir .
Arun kumar Glad to hear. Cheers Arun!
Last one speedpainting is reeeealy good!
Thanks a lot!!
One of the most usefull tutorials out there. Kudos.
Thank you for that, hope it helped! Cheers!
wow, thanks for the lesson!
Nice!!!
Loved the last image! Really inspiring! +1 sub!
Cheers! Check out the latest video I did on turning your grayscale paintings into color if you're interested. :)
Man this video is what I have been searching for! I've just started university and been given a module on landscape art, this will really help me! Thank you sir!! I couldn't believe you did it all on one layer :O Great video XD
I'm glad you enjoyed! One layer painting keeps it all very natural and easy to progress quickly. But I do split up into several layers for bigger and more complex projects.
@@WalidFeghali latecomer here, and I was thinking the same thing, and meant to ask the question that you kindly answered above:
" Does keeping the painting in one layer make the speed painting process simpler, and easier?"
Tks for the answer! Cheers!
Wish I'd seen this last year when I ran out of time to do any decent environments for this university project.
Ah, well the time to improve and learn is never too late! :) Best, W.
Thank you so much for making this video. Really
Thank you for being here! Best, W.
Your channel is a treasure for beginners. I'm lucky to find you.)
Happy you think so.
Thank you so much bro
This is really helpful! Thank you!
Very welcome! Thanks for your comment :)
Very good video. It covers some pretty basic painting techniques and concepts. I would appreciate a vid that focuses on the photoshop aspect of the paintings. Just moving from traditional over to photoshop is a challenge in itself. My challenge being knowing how to use the tools. Maybe discuss the handy tools and their shortcuts.
Thanks a lot man
Really good and super helpful tutorial!
Hope you found it useful. :) Thanks for your comment!
I'm so Intimidated!
Man, I sure hope I can become this good of a painter some day! By now I am probably nowhere near this level, but this just means I gotta keep up the hustle, right?
En sjukt talented music composer och likaså Ps proffs! Big ups min vän! :) Sann inspiratör och kreatör! Håller på med album art just nu och börjat nosa på matte painting och detta var grymt! All the best /Daveman
Tack för kommentaren och väldigt kul att höra! Lycka till med albumkonsten. :) Mvh, W.
This maybe a bit late to reply but what I learned as a Novice digital artist is, yes it is about speed to get art done but it is also expanding on your knowledge and wisdom so things start with experience to grow into a professional then to a master until you reach grandmaster status
Wow, I have never decided to subscribe to any channel this quick...
thanks you, thank you and thank you!
thank for sharing..
Thanks for making this
