Oh my... a speedpainting tutorial that isn't a 100x speed timelapse? :O You are a hero! Thank you so much for this, it's extremely well explained and very useful!
I love your tutorials. They are so easy and simple to follow. You actually EXPLAIN what you're doing instead of just leaving it up to the student to watch & figure it out.
Thank you for this very helpful tutorial! Mountaints are my weakness and I wasn't able to find a proper tutorial about it, only WIPs and speed painting videos. Now, I'm not afraid to paint mountain landscapes! :)
Nice to hear someone else who composes their own music for their RUclips videos. I, too, compose all my own music on my own RUclips videos. As for painting mountains, I live in the South Island of New Zealand, so there is a good deal of reference material not far away. I must try your method! Thanks for posting.
i hope you do a tuto on like a fantasy architectural concept art with perspective and all , or like a 3d paint over :ppp .oh and great tuto man , the fact that you do comentary and not like 4x speed vid is really great , u r channel is way underrated , cheers
YOU DO ART?! I always thought you just did music! I would listen to all your songs whilst drawing on PS myself, and then out of the blue, RUclips suggests this video- I never knew you did art! You have a dA account too. Wow, you are so cool!
i was falling a sleep like 65 times cause my brain is not capable to catch information from Tutorials what are not speed up 75 time , now i trapped in some time laps *-* Grate tutorial nice work man ;) Thanks ^^
I tried doing mountains by hand, painting it from the ground up and I just can't wrap my mind around it, but this ... I love the idea that you can use photo textures and get the desired result that you want. :) I'll have to try it, still have a lot to learn about making brushes and things.
Thanks so much for this cool tutorial. I saw a similar thing in "Master the art of Speed Painting: Digital Painting Techniques". If I could suggest one thing, I would have liked to hear you say what you did each step for those of us not as familiar with things.
It's mostly to speed up the workflow, and build a great visual library. You can paint them from scratch too of course! I have many other videos where I do just that. :) Thanks for dropping by! Best, W.
really nce tip!! cut a photo and create a brush with....i use procreate on mi ipad mini and y have photoshop to edit the photo, i will try that, thanks
First video of yours that I've seen. I was thinking about doing this but with pictures of crinkled up paper. If you watch street speed paints using spray paint they often use wrinkled newspaper to get these rocky textures and I love how it looks! Liked, subscribed, commented, and hit that bell! Cheers man!
Hi Walid, I am new to this so your video was extremley helpful. Looking forward to seeing and learning new tricks and tips from you. Cheers and thanks for sharing.
Could you possibly tell. Me what brush you used to lay the foundation and if you play with the opacity. Also what brush when you first carve out the little Mountain please?
Are you a polymath? You said you were going to be a mechanical engineer but aside from that, you also seem to be very good at music and art. I was wondering because there's not many people like you that I come across.
Ser Stormcrow I do many things yeah, because I love to do all I am interested in really. I'm a finished mech. engineer now, a composer and a concept artist. In 15 years I will tell you something different, I'm sure. :) I use Photoshop CS6!! The new CC is out, but I like 6 more.
Walid Feghali Yes, I'm sure you're going to be an even better Engineer, Composer and Artist :D and I can't wait to see what you have in store in the next upcoming years to come! I myself am trying to become a Physicist as well as a composer. Anyway, I was just wondering about the program because I recognize the set up before, I'm obviously no artist but it was interesting to see this video of yours. Also, many thanks for replying so quickly! Have a good one.
awesome. i want to learn about matte painting .. from where i can start ? completely beginner here... and i don't know how can i think myself to make a photo and extract it to be a brush that works for something.. how to learn about it? gg
Hello Walid! Congrats for the good job! I'm a begginer at concept illustration and matte painting. How you choose and change colors so quickly without opening any color tab? I know it's a basic question (and maybe a silly one) but this is something that speeds up the process a lot! Tks for your help!
i have a question, do a lot of professional artist that draw concept landscapes for video game companies such has Destiny 2, Battlefield, Halo and other games that have beautiful landscapes use this technique of using real life textures as brushes? or they draw every single detail? Or does it depend on the artist himself, bc ive seen people use this technique and the results are honestly superb for the most part, and i was curious to know if professionals thta work gaming companies use this or not.
I'm not in the field myself but if you're making concept art I'd imagine that you want to make it efficiently and quickly, but probably you'd want to put in more time in more important stuff like promotional material and whatnot.
I don't suppose you would be willing to share the brush that you used to generally paint the snow/mountains with? I can't seem to find it, if it is a preset. Thanks
+Walid Feghali Hmmm... cause I can make the full color-picker appear in CS6 (alt+shift+right mouse in Windows), but what you pop up looks more like a brightness picker? Mind if I ask the shortcut? And thanks for answering :) I nailed some pretty good mountains thanks to 2 of your tutorials!
That's very interesting haha - it's not a brightness picker. It's just color picking, with the top half of the wheel showing what you are color picking, and the bottom half showing what you already have selected. :) Happy you're getting any use of my tuts!
+Walid Feghali Ahhh... I was having a hard time pausing on the exact video frame but I see now... I still vote there should be quick access to saturation and brightness wheels ;)
hey walid, where can I download those brushes, that have like MUCH GRAIN in them, kinda NOISY ones. My brushes are always kinda straight line no matter if there is spacing in them, or texture :/
Oh, I was just confused as to what you meant. I thought you were just talking about the brushes, don't know why that went over my head. Sorry about that.

+João Art 8 hours is hardly a speedpaint, so nope. Would not be interested in that.
+MoogieSRO Oh, yeah.. sorry.. forgot about the speedpainting part :p
Well it's not that hard to draw with refrence.
Creates layer 1
proceeds to paint the whole thing in the background layer
